    The fact that you weren’t employing your drag system properly made this a heartstopper video. Thank you. Awesome fish!

    I'm not surprised that you got a proper take when you slowed down your retrieve 😉... Also, pointing your rod directly at your fly whilst doing a fast strip retrieve with (only) a 4lb BS leader is a recipe for a "smash take" break off 😳!! = Turn sideways a bit, so that your rod acts as a shock absorber... All the best 👍

    Excellent and congratulations, thanks for sharing, lovely sea trout! There is a reason fly reels have a drag system usually. You are either going to lose a finger or a fish in your efforts to control the fish. Respectfully suggest you either palm the bottom rim of the reel or use the drag settings. Great stuff and thanks

    • @angussoutter7824
      @angussoutter7824 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The thing to remember is fluorocarbon is invisible in the water i don’t think i’d go as high as 15lb but if it works for you and your confident, in dirty water yea but on a clear water 6- 8 lb as i think they can see the thicker line, fishing the river for them when i stop getting takes if i drop down 2 lb the catches come back, the other point is you can only put around 1.5 lb of pressure on a rod

      15lb is way ahead wild sea trout ain't line shy in salt water and also the nicks on mussel beds and rocks ,reefs cause problems when you hook the bigger sea trout .....caught literally over thousands sea trout using 15lb and even 18 lb seaguard tippet .......also rather fish heavier catch and release than have big sea trout swimming about with large lure in its jaw nothing to do with fishmongering

      @@theanglingfront I learned to fly fish on un kept banks on the Ugie that runs into the Sea at Peterhead at night. We fished with stoats tails as a tube fly and a treble tied onto a biro pen ink tube. It was pretty deadly. In the Western Isles you catch them at all hours fishing a muddler on the dropper trailing a goats toe or my favourite a teal blue and silver. On the river cast at 45 degrees and vary the retrieve but listen to any advice from the locals or a Ghillie. To be fair I did most of my fishing 20 to 25 years ago when there were fish in our rivers but the runs of fish in Lewis and Harris were incredible even 20 years ago. • @theanglingfront
      @theanglingfront  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Brian, in my own opinion, when I look for a new area my go to motive is to find a fresh water entrance running into the salt water, or even finding rocky areas with lots of kelp and mussel beds that isn’t of great depth, usually I will just fish an area consistently and try put as much time and effort into it, luckily for me a live a stone throw away from a lot of decent fishable areas, so I’m very fortunate to be able to put a good amount of time into fishing, but let’s be honest you will get sea trout in most places especially if there’s sprats or shrimps as this is what the sea trout will feed on. Hopefully this is decent enough information as I am not an expert, still learning but just giving you what I think from my experience of sea trout fishing, 😁

      Well done, great catch but you give me heart failure when you lock everything up!! I was shouting 'let it run for God's sakes'!! Woohoo pleased you landed it,what a beauty. When you try to land it too soon is when the risk is you knock it off or break the line. Cheers and many more of them, cheers Peter.

    Nice fish but using 4LB leader for sea trout is plain daft. Step it up to 10/12lb.

      Ah that’s a shame, I feel like I’ve had it better of over here on the west coast now, don’t get me wrong some of the days (especially the ones I’m off work 😂) have been absolutely horrendous! But because of the hills I can usually find some sort of cover thankfully
