You just blew me away mate, I learned more in this video in about 18 or so minutes. I have been messing around with the Raspberry-pi for at least 2 years. I have a 3b running my trains in dcc++, and one I bought from sprog.
I use a sprog-pi one for most of my major programming of my train..
This video gave me more on how to setup the pi than you can imagine. Thank you for such an fabulous viseo. Blown away in N.Y.C

    Hi Lee, nice video!
When it comes to customizing the appearance of raspberry pi os, I usually like to make use of the awesome themes available to install. How I like to configure it:
    sudo apt install arc-theme papirus-icon-theme
Then in the menu under preferences there is the Main Menu Editor. In that you can enable Theme and Appearance Settings to show under the preferences category in the menu.
Lastly I select Arc-Dark under the Widget and Window Border tabs, and Papirus-Dark under the Icon Theme tab, then click apply.
This way, the whole os looks a lot more modern and elegant :)

For Rpi4, there's nothing more beautiful and customizable than TwisterOS 1.3 which uses a 32 bit Raspi OS and it's very stable and come with tons of extra apps and goodies.

update for others following those instructions in the future: raspberry pi os works better with the latest version of papirus icon theme, which requires the repo to get added and installed from there. Easy instructions are on the papirus icon theme GitHub page.

One thing you didn't mention which I think is worth looking as is: Open the "Main Menu Editor" in the Preferences menu and go down to Preferences and tick "Themes and Appearance Settings" which will give you much more control over the look of the interface.

Excellent video - subscribed - wish I'd have watched this a few weeks ago. One thing I'm a bit surprised you didn't do was replace the default Raspbian File Manager with something like Thunar. It was in searching for how to do that (again - I did it before on a previous pi install) that I found this video. I especially appreciate being able to select using Thunar as root - speeds a lot of things up when doing initial set up.

This was a great video and resource for me as a new 4gb Rpi owner.
I had to apply another HDMI code and now it boots up at least but now at 720 with no 1080 option. So I think that HDMI code you mention will make it start up .
Im using VNC and I have yet to put it back on a monitor to see what it will do but I presume it will go 720 as well.
So Im really looking forward to trying / installing a lot of these things. That temp setting is great, I had been checking my temp via terminal.

I just had an interesting learning experience. It's one in which I've probably over-tweaked a workaround for something quite simple. I encountered an error running PiKiss. An error dialog box opened referencing an *invalid argument associated with xterm*. After considerable head scratching, I'm now launching it via this command line in the Application menu: *sudo lxterminal -e /home/pi/piKiss/piKiss.sh*. Not at all elegant or proper, I'm sure, but it now runs. :)
UPDATE: As it turns out, installing xterm is a more elegant solution, though I'm still giving myself points for thinking outside the box. Don't know why I didnt have xterm, but I didn't.

Thanx alot, very helpful :) 1 thing i might add: for my TV (and i asume there are others alike) 60 hertz does make the screen a bit flickery (is that the good word?) it's very subtle but it's noticable when i watch tv for a long time... When in Rp OS, you can bring down the hertz to 50 hertz, then the picture is much more pleasant to watch for me. So this is not for all of you, but maybe a little addition for some who have (like me) still have a Plasma TV or when the picture doesnt seem to look very pleasant.

What will run off if ive taken the SD cut out to copy an image? it only has one SD mount right or did i miss a step? I dont want to try it unless i get an answer and ruin it and sorry if this is a really stupid question i am a noob to this whole thing. But cheers in advance from Down Under Australia

I don’t really understand the question. If you remove the sd card that the operating system is running from your Pi will crash. You can run an operating system from a usb device and use the sd card reader for copying and creating images.
