One of the factors in food recipe preparation is the French term “mise en place” or things in place. You want to have all of your ingredients prepped, and arranged so that you can just grab the next item on the list, or the needed knife or spoon from the array on the counter without interrupting the flow of the process. Toby, one of the things that make your videos “watchable” is the pre-planning of the shots, and staging of parts and tools for a smooth flow through the procedure. At 10:15, you can see ALL of the needed screwdrivers for the assembly lined up like “soldiers on parade” and “ready for their close-up.” Well done, sir!

I/we used to use a very light oil on every jet/air screw we installed, so the body's threads were lubed when reassembling the pieces. I do applaud you for the enamel painting on the carb. Most of us wouldn't do it 🙂
My view doesn’t currently show down votes. It used to, but I haven’t seen it in years. Maybe it’s because of my paid TH-cam subscription (not to be confused with a channel monetary subscription).
i've had issues with non-IH needle & seat assemblies sticking. It's been worth the additional cost to get the needle and seat at the dealer and save the aftermarket one for in-field emergencies. YMMV (and Fiat Case New Holland sources may have changed).
you do a good job but locktite is like blue silicone dont tell any one to use it that carb may never come apart again if some folk try it I know from experience trying to repair rebuilt units.
I don't know if it applies in this instance - but most float level and float drop measurements on the air horn are usually done with the gasket in place. Obviously you should check your manual to be certain. It probably doesn't matter in this instance, because tractor float levels are fairly insensitive to small differences. However, this can make a big difference in automotive applications, especially on carbs from the 1970s upwards. It affects fuel mixture (somewhat) and more importantly the float bowl refill under hard acceleration. For example, the Quadrajets on the largest GM motors would go lean at the top end of 1/4 mile tracks which could damage the engine - because their float bowls are so tiny. Any time float level and float drop is specified on a carb, it is an unwritten rule that it is to be done with the gasket in place on the air horn, unless specifically mentioned otherwise in the manual.
The single float carburetor found on the Farmall H needs the float level to be measured with the gasket in place, but this dual float M carburetor needs to be measured with no gasket.
What was the tool you used to grab onto that little bushings with ? You must have a small bushing driver kit to put them in too .Nice Quality work. It's going to be like a new one. back to the video. I want to watch the float adjustment. I know that's critical. When I was dumb about carburetors when I got my 1st H ( now I have several). I couldn't get the float adjusted no matter how hard I tried, or how many rimes I took it apart. Then one day, I bought that little steel ruler and made a measurement to little cut out piece I cut out of sheet metal.to use as a preset gauge, to make it easier .Been decade & a half ago but I think that's how I learned to adj. a float. Now I realize when I kept repeating it ( taking of the carb & setting it diff. & reinstalling it.) I must of just kept doing the same wrong thing. You can't guess. But another guy says you can by eyeballing it, for double checking the measurement He made like it was so simple.
Thanks, for who ever helped with the answer to my question I just bought a screw extractor set. Didn't know there was such a set . I only knew about those longer things called easy outs.
@@janbill79 I was the one who replied to your query. I see my reply has disappeared. Why i don't know? Maybe because i provided a link to the Mac site? Seems odd though. You are welcome anyways. Nice to see when people take the time to reply.
Great! two questions, First I take it you don't soak the carb in a Liquid Carb Cleaner, but would that have helped loosen things up so you did not need to press things out and aid in the disassembly ( yes I know this should have been in the other Video). Second, if you are bending tabs, shouldn't you remove the float to do that? I can only think of 4 people I have seen rebuild a Carb or may have, (You, Sr, Pete, Kenny) and it seems like that was a important comment from them.
The guy whose M this came off of soaked both halves in his bucket of carb cleaner for a few days before bringing it to me, so I skipped that part. The floats are permanently attached to the pivot frame, so you just have to be careful not to damage them if you end up having to tweak the frame to adjust float level.
When I rebuild the carb on my W6 I noticed the original discharge nozzle had much bigger holes in the sides than the new replacement nozzle did from the kit. This caused some problems for me when trying to get the tractor to run right under a load. Fixed the issue with some numbered drill bits but I wonder if your discharge nozzle on the bottom half of the carb will have the same thing going on?
You’re probably seeing the main jet vent, which is a brass orifice that is permanently installed. You can take them out, but most times it destroys them.
I have a 9U international with what looks like the same carb. what number did you use for your kit? The one on the brass tag or the numbers on the side of the carb cast in? Thanks Looking good so far. Mine is not rusty though.
I ordered the carb kit from Steiner Tractor, and they mainly went off of the casting number on the side of the upper throttle body casting, because there were two different possible throttle shaft lengths for this model of carburetor.
Observation. I like to compare Farmall letter series models. Looking at your H and comparing it to the 300 I noticed the H had a single float compared to a double float on the 300 knowing the engines are nearly identical. Maybe the 300 more like the Super H engine cubic inch wise. Question does the Super H have the double float like the 300? Is there a difference between between your two W-4 models as far as single vs. double float? Makes sense if the engineers were trying to get more power from the Super H/W-4 models and the 300 compared to the H /W-4 Models.
Yes, you’re right on track with the carb differences - the regular H and W-4 had the smaller single float carb, but the Super H and Super W-4 had the same dual float carb as the 300, which is also a very similar carb to what was found on the M 👍
@@squatch253 I love this channel! I am sure glad you take the time to show the differences in models. It is funny how this stuff sticks with you. I haven't worked on or drove a letter series tractor for years and it still comes back to me.
This is actual sandblast media called “Black Blast” and it’s so sharp that I only use it on things like carburetors after it’s been in the cabinet for a while and dulled down some, otherwise it likes to eat softer metals.
No, only on downdraft carburetors because they feed down into the manifold. These updraft carburetors don’t pose the same problem because everything has to go straight up to get into the engine.
It’s mainly there to prevent any rust or corrosion in tight spots like that where moisture has the ability to get trapped and sit there for a while. Plus Glyptal is resistant to just about every oil and chemical that is found in engines 👍
Castings of nearly metal can have little areas of porosity. Usually not enough to lose an appreciall amount of material but if someone is going for a absolutely perfect paint job that little bit of seepage can cause a little bit of trouble. But we don't know anyone who worries about that do we?

There are a few differences in the Super M carb, most notably the jetting sizes and how they run a fixed high speed jet setting 👍
