Your Life is Not About You - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

  • Friends, there’s only one real sadness in life-not to be a saint. But what does it mean to follow this path of righteousness? To follow the will of God, and God wills that we habitually direct our actions and thoughts to the good of others. Jesus says blessed are the merciful, the peacemakers, the pure in heart. Following Christ’s Sermon on the Mount leads to our beatitude; living in this way leads to sainthood.

Though there are some challenges who are against god's will and humanity to destroy this beautiful world created by the god. i urge all the missionaries arround the world to work more heartly like apostles of Jesus and reach out every single person of the globe who are in need of god's grace and mercy.

@@viscomfa I am also catholic and appreciate everything that Bishop Barron says. I’ve read and listened to much longer discussions about this topic, and even then I have never seen any practical guidance. I know that some priests and members of the Church do put forth some concrete examples of behaviors when preaching, but I’ve noticed a general reluctance and sometimes the inability to do that. Why? Because it’s very difficult. Because between clear, abstract theory and messy, daily, dirty reality there is an immense difference.

Bishop Barron speaks the truth. Life seems like a constant struggle between the wills of the flesh and spirit. I feel like the world constantly reminds us (and tricks us) to believe we should always focus and strive for more power, popularity, pleasure, sex, money, etc. If you are meek, not self centered or selfish you are a "sucker" and you are "missing out". However, deep down our soul and spirit know making these the center of our lives will NOT leave us with satisfaction or joy. I pray the Holy Spirit continues to guide us in the right direction.

In summary: To do the ordinary work of a saint all of us Christins need supernatural tender mercy help from the Lord. Tender mercy which leads to joy when shared with others too. While hungering and thirsting for righteousness every day of our lives. When we do that hungering and thirsting for righteousness with humility through the Lord starting with by realising how poor in spirit we are then step by step the desires of our growing hearts become fulfilled. Like for example the desire to live in peace with all while seeing others succeed too.

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I have a divided heart and that has made it difficult for me to fully give my life over to God. I know there were will persecution, agony, and suffering. I hate suffering. God wants us to be introspective and focus on our own sins. I struggle deeply with the sin of envy and laziness. I often desire wealth, an outgoing personality, and extreme physical beauty. I have false humility. I love being liked by others. I care far too much what others think of me.

Bishop, thank you for simplifying the path to sainthood. It’s so simple and easy to understand that I did not realize till I heard you that’s what I’ve been trying to do in my life.
A saint is holy. Why? Because a saint wants to do the will of God!
What’s God’s will? Love! God is love!
What’s love? BEing and DOing the BEATTITUDES! It’s how it’s simple and yet, difficult because of the temptations from the world, the flesh and the devil. But thanks be to the grace of God, His mercy and love is bearing fruit.

I am sorry that you had to experience this. But don't let it separate you from God. Free will is a wonderful gift, but when used wrongly (that is, contrary to God's way), it causes pain to all concerned. Please talk to a good spiritual director to help you find a way forward without anger or hate.
In the meantime, place yourself at the foot of the Cross on Calvary with Mary and the beloved disciple. Cling to Jesus' cross and beg His help for He truly understands your pain. Also, as hard as it will be, pray for the one who hurt you and make a decision to love her--for love is not an emotion, but an act of the will that desires the good of the other. (From what you indicate, she has demons of her own.)
I will be praying for you that God may bless you and keep you close.

See Once again to be Holy we must Suffer. The path of love doesn't bring us suffering. It makes us feel joyous every step of the way., Happiness arises from service to others.

Dear Bishop Barron, thank you for confirming something I have always believed in my Catholic upbringing. How you describe what is the pursuit of "sainthood" is how I would describe my mother and might I add you have to accept suffering, even if someone else thinks it's unjust. And I do indeed Thank God every day for the family I was born into, a template of humility. The greatest compliment I received from a boss, now about 17 years ago..."Jeff, I'm sorry to see you leave us, because you are the conscience of this place". How that resonated for me was that I told him when I came to work there, 7 years prior, is that "my goal is always to do the right thing". Silently I reflected that I never wanted accolades for a job well done, because I will wait to the end. Most people assumed that I meant, the completion or end of the job. I have always meant, the end of my life, because I want to hear Jesus tell me, "well done faithful servant". I have so much to do and so little time, but I get up every morning and Thank God he's given me another day to plant a seed. I'm so glad I found you because everything you share so eloquently and beautifully, is what resides in my heart. God Bless You and Keep You!!!!

Thank you so much Bishop Barron. I wish I could get such clear explanations for every sentence of the Gospels. We need a fire from the priests' hearts to give us light on God's word, not just because, as an ancient text, it needs context and explanations, but also because the devil and the world are always ready to confuse us about it. Same old same, man being confused about what God said. So thank you, Bishop, God bless you too.

Im 73 and still asking God , what is it you wish of me? A simple answer is: Accept God's love and share it with others...love as God has loved...doing small things with great love as Mother Teresa would say. Never give up, keep your eyes on Jesus. Peace!

One among the many scary and spine chilling teachings of Jesus is from Matthew chapters 5,6 and 7.
I literally fail every day to follow HIS teachings in this 3 chapters.
I fail, and I still fail to follow it.
Everytime the beatitudes comes in liturgy readings in mass, I feel that I am the most unworthy soul to say that Iam a christian...

NONE of us is worthy. God's love and grace GIVE us what we need when we need it. Listen for Jesus voice - even in the most "trivial" of matters; the Holy Spirit is the one who enables us to follow Jesus. ML
