Bishop Barron - I hit the wall last year during the pandemic when the Churches were closed and we had to partake of Spiritual Communion while watching Mass online....I had just finished Chemotherapy and a round of Radiation of Stage 1 Cervical Cancer. I was never a very strong believer in Spiritual Communion, but now I MOST DEFINITELY AM! Now, I can receive the Eucharist, but Spiritual Communion sustained me and gave me strength to go on, by the way, I AM CANCER FREE TODAY. Praise Jesus!!! - God is good all the time, all the time God is good!

@@gollygosh5101 that is nonsense. Churches were closed to protect life - haven't enough Americans died from Covid? 600,000 is a ridiculous number, it should never have reached so many. Churches were closed to save any more from dying

Again and again, Bishop Barron points out the essence of our Catholicism. Not for a moment does he retreat or intellectually embellish the raw truths of our faith. He sustains me in my life through his unswerving reverence for our faith and his function as teacher and guide. May God continue to bless the world with his presence.

I hit the wall in my late teens when I had clinical depression. Psychiatrists gave me all kinds of pills, I had to take them for a long time. And later in life I realized that was never the issue. I was raised as if God didn't exist. As secular as you can possibly get. And I have always been an exceptionally curious child. I needed answers. The thought of death made me literally ill with anguish. And there was no one there to answer. My questions were dismissed as too abstract or as impractical and useless. I began to get out of that when I was exposed to the words of Jesus for the first time. And thanks primarily to bishop Barron I am now finishing my catechism and hopefully being baptized Catholic in a few weeks. I now have the ability to look back and diagnose what exactly was wrong with me. I was dying from spiritual starvation and dehydration. People, teach your kids to pray.

Well lucky you. 2016 was the beginning of my health and family crises. I prayed day and night for help and the more I prayed the worse things got. I understand that when people pray God sometimes says no ,but I experienced extra punishment the more I prayed , so I stopped praying because I simply cannot endure any more punishment from a God that hates me.

We Catholics are so endowed with many celestial gifts and we throw them away. Thinking about this reality makes me shiver because God made it possible for me to KNOW THE TRUTH and I just prefer seeing Netflix or other streaming services, I prefer a movie than receiving the BREAD OF LIFE. It is just inconceivable when I reflect that I have all I need in God but then I drink from the sewer of the world. O Lord, make me mad for you.

Check out All Saints Parish in Guilford, Indiana. Fr. Jonathan Meyer (& Fr. Mahan newly there). Fr. Meyer is a powerful homilist! The parish has a fascinating history...All Saints is actually 4 campuses (churches) that they "saved" from being shut down maybe 6 or 7 years ago. They also have a "Fifth Campus" which is online parishioners from around the country & world. It's a very dynamic parish, You can go to their website to get mass times, but they have most on TH-cam also. I support the parish as it's so clear they are doing God's work. God bless you Randy!

Thank you Bishop Barron for this timely sermon!!! Yes I have felt like that I could not go on, physically, mentally nor spiritually!!! So I had an outright spill of what was on my heart to our God! Then came time for my meditation time with God. I chose on TH-cam Catholic music as background music. As I was reflecting upon my words I had prayed to God about, I realized how wrong they sounded! After repenting I began to recognize the tune and few of the lyrics came to mind. Then I began to search where I could find the total lyrics to this Hymn. Much to my surprise I found the Hymn! Then I looked up in the Bible from where they came! They came from Isaiah and how reassuring was the Scripture passage! Your interpretation of John 6, Bishop has given me the same effect! Yes! Our Lord Jesus is the Bread of Life and we need Him to be spiritually alive in us for eternity!!! We/I need Him right now physically and mentally also, He who gives us/me peace, not as the world gives, He who energizes, gives us/me strength and hope to get up and carry on walking with Him on our/ my life journey towards eternity... May the Lord bless you greatly Bishop Barron!!!

I've heard this story many times, but it never really gets old. I experienced that after the "Eucharistic drought" that hit in Lent 2020 and we were finally able to bring communion to the sick. They literally hungered for that real presence of Christ in their bodies. We must never allow such a drought to strike again.

In cycling it’s called “bonking”: hitting the wall - having zero stores of energy (carbohydrates) to go on .. AT ALL. It’s not serendipity that I bonked (spiritually) about a week ago. Usually when that happens we think we can just dig in and “try harder” .. but self-reliance is spiritual suicide. As in in cycling, ‘If you’re hungry, it’s too late’ .. and very humbling to have to admit “ *I* can’t do this.” Perfect sermon, perfect timing (for me anyway).

I can hear nones saying, “It’s not as simple as going to Mass.” I realize that in a short homily you can’t go into depth about how to experience God. But that’s what is so hard for people to do. Otherwise, 70% would be zero. Your talks about prayer, “take the time”, and other elemental things are very helpful to people who are so caught up in this worldly existence. “Lord, please help me” are words these people don’t say because they can’t believe that he can. Fundamentals of prayer, of trying to connect with the Divine, are most helpful. And repetition. You are bringing light to the world, Bishop. Please don’t be discouraged. God bless you.

I've been shy away from It since covid started and been longing for the Eucharist, no doubt. It's like feeling something is really missing from me. However, been feeling quite guilty and cannot pass this point yet, but I recalled Jesus, our Lord, is Merciful, and I could only hope His Grace will take me as I am (habitual sinner) and if not, I'll never be saved from eternal damnation with His Almighty Hand.
Please pray for me, Bishop Barron, my brothers and sisters, to the Lord, our God. 🙏

I experienced hitting the wall. I remember being in tears in a field on my hobby farm at a time where my spirit had shifted from the deepest sadness to the vacuum of joylessness. At that moment, I learnt that trust in Christ, however fragile and shaky, is a thousand times stronger than self-sufficiency. I really get that 70% you are talking about, bishop. One cannot not even feel hungry for God from constantly eating the junk food served by the illusion of self-sufficiency.
    Levis Shalom

I'm an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I want say what an excellent and powerful sermon. I fully agree with the points made. I also feel that everyone (It doesn't matter which religion or denomination they are from) should listen and learn what they can from sermons, talks, speeches and lessons like this one.

I have never stopped believing in the real presence, and today, it is needed more than ever for EVERYONE. We NEED the Liturgy, and we NEED Christ in the Eucharist. For ourselves and all those we are meant to serve.

So simple, but so profound! The juxtaposition of bread of this world that lasts briefly compared with the Bread of Life that lasts forever! Beautiful and well said. Thank you for this Eucharistic moment. ✨

What is hard is when you ‘hit the wall’ and are going to mass, visiting the blessed sacrament, going to confession, receiving communion and saying rosaries and novenas just to experience a crumb of God’s presence. If anyone is going through this I eventually found comfort in St John of the Cross’ description of the Dark Night of the Soul. A priest I was meeting with dismissed that I could be going through this, saying only holy souls experience this. I felt hopeless like God truly had forsaken me. But others have come to reassure me over time that this is not necessarily the case and we are all destined for holiness. One of St Francis of Assisi’s brothers experienced something similar and St. Francis told him it was a test from the evil one that will result in the brother’s greater glory in heaven. However, it was too much for the poor brother to bear and he was relieved of it. If anyone else has gone or is going through this please don’t give up. I’m praying for you. St John of the Cross says God is even closer to us in those dark nights, even if we don't feel His presence.

Gracias.
