I thought God was a boogyman. When I learned this simple fact I became a Catholic Christian again. And I started to understand that the meaning of life is to love as much as we can. As much as our nature allows.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. Psalm 24:3-4
I am learning english, and I am happy to able to understand it all. I watch every video 3 times.First time I play the video trying to understand much as i can without notes.Second time I play the video writing down what I dont understand and translate it. Third time, I play the video with the new words learned before, so that may be play it fluid without interrumptions. I would say rehearsing is the key to be successful in any aspect of the life.
Maybe I should practice my Spanish in the same way. I've been wanting to start, Noche Oscura and the other cantos by Juan de la Cruz. It's amazing how many precious things you can find for free these days.
Beautiful sermon. Now if only we can live out such love and faith, we’ll succeed at NOT turning away people who might otherwise come to know Christ. God help us.
The past few days I’ve been meditating on the Holy Trinity; thank you for helping me understand that this great mystery is based on love. God bless you, Bishop Barron.
What joy I experience when I listen to this talk by Bishop Barron. Thank you Jesus for these gifts. JOY JOY SISTER LENORA. RSM. STILL doing prison ministry by computer. I am blessed
I am blessed to belong to a parish with two incredible priests, and listening to Bishop Barron continually inspires me to be a better Christian and a better Catholic. Thank you sir!!
“God is love! Every other religion or religious philosophy will say that God loves or that love is one of God’s attributes. But in Christianity, love is not what does. God is love. Christianity is unique in this claim that love is what God is.” Amazing!!!
God is love which also means love is God which sometimes makes it easier to understand. When we have love in our lives we have God in our lives. Isn't that great
The link between Love and Joy is the spiritual life. We live the life of fruits of the Spirit. I reflect His love because He loved me first.... this sermon is one if your best bushop!
Thank you Bishop Barron for your wonderful and uplifting spiritual insight! I've recently fallen in love with being a catholic again.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 It's been amazing since.
Thank you for this wonderful talk. It provides an injection of fresh hope, fresh confidence....fresh joy! For anyone who thinks that they are not good enough to be loved by God or feels they need to do something to earn God's love, you overturn that thinking. You are a very gifted evangelist and speaker and I pray that God will continue to bless your ministry, both in USA, and via the web to people like me in the UK.
I was born Catholic but went away from the church after finding out about all of the sexual abuse issues. I still have not heard the church respond to that and couldn’t see myself coming back in until we hear something. Thank you.
So beautiful, yet so deep and consoling. Thank you Bishop. I work in Interreligious dialogue and once I tried to explain that Christianity is a response to God’s love expressed to us in Jesus Christ. Hearing you today helps me to deepen that reflection. I always look forward to your Sunday sermon. Thank you
You just put into words what was in your heart. Thank you. Just before I could listen to the sermon someone bombarded me that my approach to sharing the word of God should be like John the Baptist, . I was praying jesus to show me the way. Bishop's sermon answered it.
This harkens to the old testament understanding of to Yada - to know God intimately - its the action of loving God and to accept or be receptive to God's love - which is a gift, and not given because of anything we do
THANK YOU Bishop Barron! Your explanation that Love necessarily requires three parts - a Lover (the Father), a Beloved (the Son), and the shared love between them (the Holy Spirit) really clicked in my puny Catholic brain. Thank you for making one of the most profound mysteries of Christianity.......just a little more understandable !!! May God Bless You today !!
Hi Bishop Robert Barron (yes you have the same name as my brother Robert I know it's common, please pray for him too). Please pray for Father Patrick Curley who was diagnosed with brain cancer and we are venerating through Venerable Fulton J. Sheen. We need all the prayers we can get. Thank you so much :-)
Thank you so much for setting my mind at ease. What a comfort it is to know that God's love is to some extent conditioned,. Alike the Pharisres, we tend to set unattainable standards that fill people with guilt and despair, preventing them from.experiencing the glory and joy of God. I can't cpunt the number of times I have heard sages Say mother's love is the only uncondiotional love. Imaginé the burden! How can a límited, mortal human being's love be uncondiotional when you have shown us that God's love also includes an IF? Thank you so much for an enlightening and inspirational sermon!
Just one thing to add, the Biblical definition of Love. Otherwise many people will misunderstand this message. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NRSV-CI
Kierkegaard says that when you occupy the consciousness of love, you are in the same consciousness of God: "love believes all things--yet cannot be fooled."
I can’t help to think that if I would have brought my beloved Deborah Marie Johnson to Saint peters Catholic Church in Belleville Illinois instead of Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital across the street where there is no one qualified to do anything while she was going through a major psychological breakdown after losing her mother from accident suicide learning her family suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorders that she would be alive today. Her brain would have been happy and full of love.
Dear Bishop thank you for the profound reflection on God being love and full of joy. May the Holy Spirit deepen our grasp of the understanding of the words God is love. An octogenarian Irish missionary sister in Kenya trying to learn how to let God love me and teach me to be love. Caitriona
A most wonderful sermon! If I were to hear only this over and over for the rest of my life, joy would be forever mine❣ Thank you on this Mother's Day ❤
I love your homilies and your practical look at being a Christian Catholic. When I listened to your homily today, my mind wandered and wondered. When you say, “God is only love.”, how can the destruction and vengeance of the Old Testament be explained? My husband has lost his faith in Christianity and in God. He asks, “How can God so angrily destroy his own creations?” or, “How could a loving God allow so much suffering?” I try to explain but his extremely detailed and logical mind can’t accept it.
thank you for the inspiring homily... God is love, his love comes first (grace) and we have to respond / live in his commandment. Love is joy... Alleluia.
Thank you for this beautiful and profound explanation about who and what God is.. your wisdom is out guidance to understand Him in a better and higher way. Sometimes to me is ‘kind of funny’ when I hear some religious preachers to say ; ..God hates this, or God hates that.. I understand that they might say it so ppl know what kind of things or actions don’t go with the nature of God, when I try to explain it I use as an analogy the nature of fire 🔥.. which is heat, and burn.. that’s what the nature of its essence cause.. same way, the nature/essence/substance of God is Love.. and it is us who get separate from Him because of our way of thinking, the kind of life we live and of course our trespasses. Blessings Bishop Barron 🙏
Oh thank you so much Bishop Barron. This is another one I will listen to several times. I know I am hearing the Holy Spirit speak through you, because it goes straight to my heart. God bless you always.
Thank you Bishop Barron for your inspiring and deep reflections on the Sunday liturgies of the Word of God. It is a nourishment for my spiritual life. Please, continue.
Thank you Bishop Barron, enlightening and comforting sermon ... to know that God has chosen me leaves me in awe of him all the time. Your sermons make me appreciate the scriptures. May God continue to bless and use you for his work.
Amen, Bishop Barron! God's Love always comes first! And with His Love it is infinite just as He is. Therefore, with Love, it is immeasurable from the Love of God, especially, from our limited mortal sinners' view/perception. We cannot ever do anything enough to earn the eternal life that He offers, let alone through ourselves, but ultimately, through His Grace, Mercy, and Love that really saves us in the end.
GodLove is unconditional, but we do need to learn how to unpack/recognize it (it's not a reward, it's an understanding) and we do that, by following His instructions/commandments, and to help flourish/nurture Love-Christ found in this world.
So simple but yet so eloquently stated! What I enjoy so much of your sermons is your ability to peel away the onion to reveal the couple items which allow me to internalize it and grow my personal relationship with God. Thank you!
Thank you Bishop. When I was younger I was taught by my superiors that "God is Love, and that anything coming from God could only be Love" By elimination anything that we despise, be it whatever that might be, is not God given.
I thought God was a boogyman. When I learned this simple fact I became a Catholic Christian again. And I started to understand that the meaning of life is to love as much as we can. As much as our nature allows.

The Lord bless you Bishop!
Thank you, Bishop Barron - your LIGHT of CHRIST shines very brightly on God's people
Brilliantly stated Bishop Barron ! If we dont have joy despite the circumstances, we are not truly living our spiritual life!
Yep. Jesus got into my Boat...I owe Him, Everything! Praise You Lord, for seeking me out, and finding Me! Amen!

The past few days I’ve been meditating on the Holy Trinity; thank you for helping me understand that this great mystery is based on love. God bless you, Bishop Barron.
Who is down voting this? “God very much wants to share His limitless joy with you.” That’s not an objectionable message.
There are millions of virulently anti catholic out there ,yet they call themselves Evangelical Christians ,but despise everything Catholic !

Thanks Bishop: simple and deep; in a short sermon you describe the foundations of Christianity.
God lives with us and in us everywhere in our hauses and churches and in different curcules. Thanks peace with you.
So the proper response is not "I choose joy" but rather "Joy chooses me!" *mindblown*
"It's not you who chose me, but I who chose you." That's what I'm taking away and thinking about today.
God = Love = Joy, Amen!
What a beautiful reflection. Love is the language understood by all in the world.

I also have to say that surrendering to God's Will, knowing that God is Love compels me to respond in action to deliver that Love to others.
