    *Lemme tell you why I was here* :
    So, my parents own a big fish pond. Today we were cleaning it and I was excited.
    What got me most excited was this really big orange fish (probably the biggest of the lot)
    We drained the water and the fishes started to surface.
    I was just so excited I kept playing with the orange fish.
    After cleaning the pond we went back to have some tea.
    After an hour or so, we came back and the fish was 'belly up'. :(
    I tried putting it in the stream near by to let it get fresh water, but I was positive it was dead.
    Then I faced it against the current and it started to move a little.
    I grabbed a plastic bag, filled it with water, put the fish in and rushed home.
    I looked to TH-cam for answers and I found this video. Saw what I was doing was right, gave me more confidence to continue :).
    But since I didn't have an aquarium or a filter, I put it in a tub and used my hands to make the water flow .
    (I basically just waved my hand in front of the fish and pushed water towards it's mouth).
    It's alive now :)
    Thanks for sharing the video.
    I just felt so guilty all day thinking that I actually killed the fish.
    (its around 29cm in case anyone was wondering, and I don't know what species it is)
    Thanks again.
    EDIT: July 25 2022:
    It was killed by a wild otter :(
    We found its body half eaten floating in the water.
    We had even named it Lazarus. Rip

    You have achieved what we all wish could happen when we get carpet surfers. Congrats on your fishy lifesaving skills. Similarly I saved a piranha that was dried to the tile, even after a good part of his scales ripped off & stuck to the floor. He lived years but died in the house fire (lived 3 days after that too even with 2 inches of soot on top of water). Fish can live through so much. Your video shows everyone not to give up on your jumpers so easily. Thanks for the video showing it as it happened.

I started panicking and it took me a little while to find the fish. when I put it in the water it was breathing, but not moving. I did a quick search and pulled your video up. after a moment being held in the flow the fish reanimated and begun trying to flee my hand. I held it in the flow a minute longer for good measure. as of now it's swimming in the tank with most of it's coordination back. Thanks again!

  • @benmilner9672
    @benmilner9672 4 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    Yeah, I have revived numerous fish, with confirmed cases up to 40 minutes out of water for a small koi, but no doubt bigger fish can survive much longer. Unless the fish has dried to a crisp, there's a chance you can revive it, even if it looks completely lifeless.

      @@lily3664 This happened to me just yesterday. One of my big 5" goldfish jumped out from my stupid fancy HD rimless aquarium (no top) and landed on my hard kitchen floor tile, about 5 feet drop. I screamed when I discovered him as he lay there lifeless and barely damp, but I picked him up and put him back in the tank. He looked completely lifeless and I thought of scooping him back out of the tank after a few minutes, but after about 10 minutes, the fish started wiggling again although his gills barely moved. Then all of sudden he started breathing and swimming slowly in bursts and then today he looks completely fine! We renamed him Lazarus! I don't understand but he came back from the dead.

    Never give up! I had 2 different yellow lab african cichlids jump out of the tank for anywhere between 1-2 hours and both of them seemed to have made a full recovery. Apparently they can get a bit carried away when chasing each other and try to take flight. My tanks all have rims but I've been leaving the glass covers off lately due to heat buildup during 90*F + days while my AC is under repair. Amazingly with a fan blowing across the surface it causes enough evaporation cooling effect to keep them in the 80-82*F range which beats trying to do water changes with 5-15 gallons of cooler water to drop it down 3-4 degrees every 8 hours.

When I was about to give up looking for him ( 1 hr looking) I checked in the crevices between my desks and there he was inside a folded up cubby. I touched it. And it flopped and when I picked him up (quick and tossed him back in) he did the same thing he was not swimming for about 5 seconds but then he picked up as if nothing happened. I called him Kurt since he jumped out the tank

    Thank you sooo sooo sooooooooo much!! I just got two new frostbite clownfish a week ago and one jumped out of my Waterbox tank since those tanks are usually open. Once I saw him laying on the floor bot breathing or flopping around i was bawling. Not sure how long he was in the floor for! Could have been an hour!! I put him back in the tank and he was literally floating vertically!! And was immediately suck onto the input of my filter since he was so weak! Grabbed my phone to see what i can do and this was the FIRST and ONLY video about how to revive a fish that jumped. Pushed the water through his grills as instructed. Then he started swimming! At first he was gasping and breathing so hard but now he’s breathing normally!

    Hey, just a tip, if you really don’t think the fish will live try dampening the skin with stress coat. It will add back the slime layer therefore reviving the fish quickly. I’ve had a jewel cichlid jump from a 55 and a green sunfish from my pond both are doing great

    • @NaturalAquaria
      @NaturalAquaria  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cody Johnson provided they can get enough oxygen back in their blood to come around, the stress coat is a great idea to help prevent secondary infection.

      JJ Aquariums labyrinth fish can survive out of water much longer than most fish. many catfish as well actually. The barbs though, doubt it was out of water for the whole hour if it survived in the end.

      Slime Fails And Pet Peeves your tiger barbs?
      I went out to catch a breeze and came back to my filter being of because of too much bio in the bio mesh, thus reducing water movement, thus filter wasnt working properly and 4 tiger barbs drowned, 1 jumped out and they are all in my aquarium right now, i am trying to put them in the state to return to life... for while i held them, but, it feels like they are just dead :(

    I was once traveling from one city to another in my native country, Pakistan. I travelled more than 400KM (dunno in miles) carrying fish on me. I had put several kinds of crabs, lobsters, fish, turtles, frogs and snails in several small containers. They were more like vertically rectangular boxes.
    On my way, I had stopped on a cash anf carry to get some food, fuel and to answer nature's call. I got back in the car, took a look see on the animals and saw my Oscar floating belly up. There was no filtration or airflow in the boxes. I tried moving the boxes and the Oscar but it didnt move. I threw it in a bin because of it. There was no way to rescucitate that Oscar as I was in the middle of nowhere.
    When I reached home, I saw that one of the Koi was also belly up and jerking slightly. I immediately rushed all my boxes to the 500 gallon terrarium I had and dumped them all in along with the water as there was no time picking each animal up individually. The Koi recovered in minutes.
    I lost one Oscar and five Chinese Mystery Snails that day.

    Same sort of thing happened to me with a cardinal tetra. It died and floated lifelessly through the tank for around 5 minutes. Even turned white, so I take it out (it didn't move) so placed it into a empty bucket and continued to do maintenance. 10 minutes later I saw it flick its tail so quickly placed it into the net and hovered it in the water so it doesn't drift away and now it's been months and it's happy and healthy. It's astonishes me how resilient cardinals are, mine where wild caught and are hardier than my guppies 😂

    This happened to my goldfish today. It was already floating upside down in the water when i came back to buy my aerator coz it broke. When i saw a very little sign of life (a slow move of gills) i immediately put it back to the aquarium (with changed water and new aerator) and gently pressed its body like a massage. It started to respond slowly after few minutes. Until it normally got back to its normal state. It was a miracle! Never thought it would survive

    My fish almost died during a water change, it was swimming sideways and went upside down a couple times. I would lift the fish about the water and put it back in and nudged the fish to prevent it from going side ways and it survived

    Man I didn't know having your fish die hurts. I had my first fish, a betta one that lived for 2 years and then died, it hurt. But my friend said don't worry, it's just an ornament.

  • @rachelwalton3772
    @rachelwalton3772 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool. I have a true story. My friend woke around 8am and upon going downstairs, noticed a dead goldfish on the doormat, obviously a 'gift' stolen from somewhere and left there by a cat. Well, he left it there to show me when I finally emerged. I'd had a very late night so didn't get up till 10am. Went downstairs and he asked me if I'd seen the 'present'. I walked back out and there was this poor goldfish. I picked it up, it was dry and obviously dead. Then its mouth moved! I quickly placed it in some water and yep, it started (very slowly) coming back to life. The next day it was as fiesty as anything, so we took it to the petshop for them to look after. Found out a couple of weeks later that it survived and was perfectly OK. This little guy also had a toothmark in him from the cat. Absolutely amazing. Goodness knows how long he'd been there already before my friend found him when he first went downstairs at 8am.

    Have a similar story with a ropefish.
    I noticed it was missing and found it behind the tank.
    It was kinda stff in an s shape.
    I put it back into the tank and gently shaked it around till it started moving again and it made a whole recovery.
    reason it got out was that one of the cotton balls I stuck between the tube openongs in the lid fell out.

  • @rbw8371

    Super cool. I've seen this done with salmon in fisheries and have tried it a few times myself. It's hit or miss with me but perhaps I need to spend more time doing it. Perhaps a narrow recovery -tank with lots of flow.
