We've been playing these matchups a few times with my Spelltable group and I keep being impressed with Faldorn. The boards it can make out of know where is amazing.
I LOVED this. I just love precons in general, and would absolutely want to see more precon matches. They are usually well designed an incredibly fun to play with/against.
Thanks for the video. Back playing magic after a long hiatus. I like the format with a lot of explanations, very helpful to someone who used to play modern (not very well) and Commander is an alien format to me.
Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer has an ability that goads all creatures with lower Power than it. Once the +1/+1 counters were added, they were no longer weaker than BB, so they were no longer goaded.
I think Elliot had the win if he played Nalia at 38:35. Beginning of combat, he had a full party, all 4 of his attacking creatures would have gained +1/+1 and deathtouch, which would have either wiped Alex's Board and gave Elliot the win on his next turn, or let damage through, getting himself low to keep faldorn on the battlefield, letting any more damage through kills him so he can only block with one thing, and even then I think he always loses the match there as long as Elliot plays Nalia.
Great game and postgame discussion. It seemed you had a good time as well. These decks are not bad against each other. Too bad Jim drew so many lands, variance!!! Thx
25:22 Can someone please explain why Firkraag triggered here? As far as I can see, Firkraag and the other creature didn't have to attack so Firkraag shouldn't have triggered.
Jim's creatures had to attack because Jan had Angler Turtle - "Creatures your opponents control attack each combat if able.". This is why Frikraag would trigger.
While they had to attack, Baeloth checks specifically for "goaded" attacking or blocking creatures, which they are not due to Angler Turtle. They just have to attack, but are not goaded.
Alex shouldn’t have won the game on his last turn, he swung for lethal but the card eliot exiled should not have returned to the battlefield until Alex’s endstep, as that’s exactly what Galepowder mage does.
At 20:57 why didn't he activate the Dire fleet daredevil trigger? Exiling another card has synergy with the commander, in addition to use another spell? Great channel, always watching. Greetings from Chile!!
Alex here, it has been a long time since we played this game but I vaguely remember either not having the mana or not having an good options to pick, either that or I just forgot it amongst the other triggers. Cheers from Canada, hope things are well!
@@TheSpikeFeeders I've been working really hard on updating these precon as my first approach to EDH... I highly appreciate your response, as it gives me momentum to carry on :)
25:21 when you attacked with Firkraag, Cunning Instigator, why did you put 2 counters on your card and draw 2 cards? the card says to place only +1/+1 and draw 1 card?? th-cam.com/video/IGScuYKWmGQ/w-d-xo.html
Just watched the showdown and I am wondering which precon I should buy between Mind flayarr and the Party time. Because the local store near me only sell two of them and I can only get one. Any recommendation ?
I would love some upgrades in the decks and not just unboxed and played because that kind of content is in another channels and you always try to do different things
@@TheSpikeFeeders I kinda like seeing both things. Also I enjoy watching you play with the precons since you usually play a bit less loose than some other folks out there and I personally enjoy watching gameplay more if I don't see like 20 obvious suboptimal plays 😅 I feel it showcases the decks a bit better rather than the way specific players play (although I do like your playstyles).
Good content but I feel like so many channels do this exact game with the precons out of the box. Would love it so much more if everyone upgraded them and then played them
Overall, I'm not enjoying the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate cards. Captain N'ghathrod has an awful name (I know it's probably taken from a novel or module but it's worse than Fblthp the Lost.) Captain N'ghathrod is a super salt inducing choice as a poster child for the set. Just yoink your card. You don't get a cast or etb trigger. You don't get to enjoy your cards for a second. That card would give me an anxiety attack paying hard cards. And it starts with giving your team soft evasion. Those colors will definitely give you hard evasion. And you have all the protection options of counterspells, certainly hexproof/shroud equipment, and lords like Esior and Kira. Too much salt on the table! The Choose a Background commanders ~in theory~ can lead to all sorts of fun RPG flavored deck building exercises and subgames. In reality, they lead to turn 5-6 table kills with commander damage. They really raise the floor minimum amount and types of removal for a casual game. Say goodbye to your soooper casual unsupported tribe deck. And please don't bring up Rule 0. It was difficult enough to groom a play group in the before times. It's impossible in the age of COVID + Monkey Pox.
Green Slime has been so great when playing in my playgroup. I love the power level and balance of these decks against each other.
I'm picking up several copies of Green Slime. Pretty rarely a dead card.
The exile wolf deck is very good out the box, I would like to see u upgrade the decks and play them again?
We've been playing these matchups a few times with my Spelltable group and I keep being impressed with Faldorn. The boards it can make out of know where is amazing.
I just added a bunch of inpluse draw and a couple creatures that cascade and exile a card on attack just to make the deck do what it does more
I LOVED this.

Decks were great and well-balanced
Really enjoyed this PreCon matchup
11:17 Alex’s look of supreme confidence is what I aspire to be.
Sometime you just gettum

Those decks all seem to have potential for strong casual games. I didn't expect precons to do so much.
The term precon doesn't have the same connotation it used to in recent sets
Us either, honestly. Baldur's Gate didn't really appeal to me (Jim) at all but wow I would definitely recommend these decks.
@@TheSpikeFeeders I have played against the Mind Flayars precon twice and even against high power decks, it gets scary pretty fast.

I'm kinda new to commander. Can anyone explain why Eliot's creatures doesn't get goaded after They gain vigilance?

the attack at around 41:50 should have dealt 4 damage to Eliot i think. (the order had 2 damage marked on it already from the red damage spell)
Alright nerds, you’ve convinced me. I’ll join your weird patreon cult.

I really like the Faldorn precon too!

I know I'm late, but I was thinking the same exact thing. Definitely winnable for Eliot. Easy to overlook though.

Green Slime... i need that.
a green creature that can counter and destroy an artifact/enchant? My Nikya deck might enjoy that very much

What kind of sorcerer are you?
“A wild magic one of course!! 🤘” 😂😂😂
Can you recommend a competitive Captain N'Ghathrod list for the commander format? So with the addition of cards that support the deck.

It’s always Alex who is playing the precons I buy lolololol
Eliot the Whiteclay cleric is a B.Wheeler classic although he calls it pringles since his is a foul copy bent out of shape 🤣

You should buy the deck you think you'll have the most fun with. :) Which one has cards that you get excited about?
Did u know reading the card explains the card? Those wolf tokens look cool bro.
good game overall !
it was great! 😅
Right?
It was great.
@35.00 Elliot misses two Zulaport triggers.
We'll give him two extra life at the beginning of the next game.

Generally this is what we'd like to do with precons, we were just under a bit of a time crunch with this one!

Jan should have played Jan Jansen deck 😁
Bill?
He doesn't play Magic anymore. You can still catch him on our other channel playing Flesh and Blood, though!
@@TheSpikeFeeders flash ban neutering his Najeela deck have anything to do with it? I remember it was his favourite.
Not really, I think it's mostly that he didn't like the impact that partners and designed-for-commander stuff was having on the format.

love my girl nalia
