Excellent job Dan. I don't think people realise how difficult it is to remember all the specs whilst trying to not crash 😅 you smashed it! Enjoyed this 👌
We might have fallen in love with this bike! 😉 Nice first ride Dan and brava for remembering all those facts - no luxury of stopping to check when riding in a group 😎👍
Great video Dan as usual. People who criticise the looks now can look back in a year or 18 months time when these new bikes become popular and the old one looks dated. I had a fantastic GSA1250 with 35k miles done in 3 years and mostly 2up all round Europe and UK. Just traded for a triple black ASA and am heading to Romania next summer, 2up. The ASA is just brilliant and you can ride it manual if you want. Cheers 👍
Years back, I used my KLR650 as a work vehicle. I strapped all sorts of tools and equipment to it to get me through the day. This BMW in my mind, is built for just that, strapping all sorts of gear to it like a true adventurer. This is not a bike to go weekly to a coffee drive through.
I had the 1250GS and loved it to bits and took it all over Europe, but after four years I found it was getting a bit heavy for me to move around so I moved over to the 1250RS which is easier to live with. I can't get myself to like the 1300 GS/GSA (Marmite), but I'm looking forward to seeing what they do to the RS/RT 1300.
At the risk of sounding a bit rude, I think it's a grower! I'm very slowly starting to come round to it's looks, but I don't think I'll ever like it as much as the 1300 GS
The other motor bike road test channel MCN have already said that the BMW 1300GS is to heavy for most people and that’s one of their bike testers who has worked for them over 25 years
Yes it is what it is.. I'm a Malaysian and in Malaysia we say it in Malay the BMW is "Banyak Makan Wang" which translate to "Eat Lots of Money" to own one 😂😂
Honestly, if you're gonna ride a tank so you can take half your house with you, then just travel in a car, it's easier more comfortable and you will never drop it...
@@Englishbikerdan Ah ha. So they describe it as liquid cooled and that liquid is oil! gotcha 🙂. How's the spine after getting it off that side stand? Try doing that with luggage and a pillion 🤪. Too heavy for me and my short legs and dodgy back.
Actually no it says air/liquid on the website. The problem with these days is it's so rushed and I try to remember all the specs. Easy to get it wrong while faffing! It's bloomin' heavy, nearly dropped it doing u-turns off camber on wet grass. Phew! Still, bloody lovely to ride!
The other channel you will find the BMW 500GS is rider pro radar and you should find more information on the bike especially when BMW staff are in the video
Nice bike and I’ll probably upgrade from my 1250 GSA at some point. But, it’s not true to say that the 1300 has a lot more power than the 1250. Power is up 7% and torque up by 4%. I haven’t ridden the 1300 at all yet, but I’d wager it’s the placebo taking and not real world. 0-100, the outgoing 1250 GS is quicker than the 1300 GS - after which the 1300 pulls slightly ahead. That’s the reality. Having said that, I reckon the 1300 GSA is a ripper and I want one; but can’t afford one just yet.
Yeah, maybe placebo effect, it just feels a LOT more pokey to me. That being said, I've not ridden the 1250 in quite a while. A back-to-back test would be interesting!
I have known people who still have the BMW 1250GS and they say it’s to heavy in weight to push the bike back into their garage so the fact that you’re saying otherwise doesn’t make sense. When people actually own the bikes they will know better
Good first ride review but you really didn’t tell us much except that you were having a good time. Well who wouldn’t, under similar circumstances? I enjoyed the video though so thank you for posting it.
I agree what you’re saying about the BMW 1300GS but it’s to heavy in weight for most people to move also to many options to list on the bike but with the engine and the amount of power it’s a good thing that it has the 30L petrol tank or you wouldn’t go to far without stopping for petrol. But if you’re buying the BMW 1300GS it might be worth waiting until BMW has a few ex demo bikes for the sale the reason being is that they will have everything on them but you have to pay 💰 full price for get one that’s my thoughts if you want a good list of options for the bike but not pay more than 25 thousand pounds for the bike because if you add almost half of the options on the base price BMW 1300GS it’s almost 30 thousand pounds which is a lot of money 💰 any motor bike
It's almost identical weight to the R1250GSA, and that didn't put people off though. You see them everywhere on the road and at bike meets. I doubt this will put people off who are into this sort of bike.
as you know it’s a lot heavier in weight than the Ducati multistrada V4 and the same sort of price it would be good to see a test between the 1300Gs and the multistrada V4 at some
Nice bike, but because of the sheer heft of it and the cost, I'd sooner stick with my old bike, buy a little sexy 2 seater sports car and tour Europe several times with the change.
@Englishbikerdan She's my wife. And also I won't have to bother about bike security, oil on the roads, wind noise or getting wet. I can just cruise the stelvio with Jess at my side 😍
The actual design of the BMW 1300GS isn’t that different from the BMW 1250GS the biggest difference is the front headlight and that’s what I don’t like is the way the headlight looks it looks a bit odd the 1250GS looked a bit odd with two of set headlights
@@Englishbikerdan It actually matters to some that actually know BMWs. The "Wethead" engine was released in 2013 which uses limited water cooling for the exhaust valves. This design was also carried over to the 1250 engine. The new 1300 utilizes water cooling for the entire head. And of course it's also "air cooled" because air passing over the radiator. 😏
I rode the ASA version this morning, I didn’t like it….the bike barrels into corners and actually changes up a gear pre corner as you come off the throttle. It’s dangerous, particularly in the wet. In addition the bike changes gear mid corner- that’s the last thing you need in slippy conditions. You just can’t trust it. The bike is fine in manual mode but you might as well have a clutch if you are going to ride it manually.

I think this is a common misconception, as the bikes with all the tech get a lot of press. However, there are lots of very simple motorcycles for sale for reasonable prices. Look at the entire RE range for example, or the Honda 500's. There's a lot of choice for us consumers.
The BMW RE is worth the money because it’s a very good touring bike but it’s a good looking bike and it’s easy to use the new BMW 1300GS is definitely not a good looking bike and the Ducati multistrada V4 is still a cheaper bike and much better looking also not as heavy in weight therefore that’s what I would be buying instead of the BMW 1300GS

Having had three GSs including a 1250 GSA I think BMW has lost the plot, moved to my lovely Multi and I’m not going back…
I am about to do the same thing. Tried the GSA 1300 both manual and ASA models, boy am I disappointed.
The 1250 is gone, they’re just selling the remaining stock.
Why?
Can you explain how you think they've lost the plot? Would be interested in thoughts from GSA owners.
