As someone who grew up in Salzburg, Austria (not a 5 star hotel obviously) I've travelled to India twice and there are many beautiful parts of the country. Especially in the South, the Kerala backwaters and beaches, Kochin, Hampi, the highlands of Tamil Nadu with villages like Ooty... friendly people, fascinating culture and stunning landscapes. In contrast, Delhi and Mumbai are hellholes. Bangalore is cleaner and more organized but I think all the big cities are incredibly hectic.

As a Chinese, I think comparing India with China is an insult to the Chinese people’s hard work over the past few decades. Except for population, nothing in India can compare with China. If Indians want to gain respect from the world, they must first make themselves a "modern" country that respects women. A country's hygine situation is related to a country's image and dignity, but I didn't see Indian officials making changes to maintain their dignity.
As an overseas Chinese who has visited China in the early 90s when it wasn't going that great, I don't think India today is too far off from 90s China. Their political system is a hindrance - the West likes to pretend democracy is a one-size-fits-all solution, but ignores the fact that the great empires (Britain) and modern tiger-economies of today (Singapore, Taiwan, Hongkong, South Korea, Japan, China) ALL started off as authoritarian, dictator-style, or long-term 1 party rule, during their periods of greatest economic growth and stability. Whatever their current systems, they started off being authoritarian, because you cannot implement long term planning without it. Modern China is incredible of course. The Indian people have the individual qualities to make it (smart, hardworking), but the society itself has issues that need to be examined and rectified without shame, dogma that needs to be thrown out.

Even places like Gurugram and Noida City are decades away from being as advanced as Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam or Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia. Countries with significantly smaller economies have still manage to develop much better cities than India.

Many people here saying that he filmed the worst locations of India and he could have shown the beautiful locations. I am from Himachal and have travelled the length and breadth of the country. Just look down the slopes of any tourist place here in Himachal and others in the country you will see plastic wrappers, bottles, everywhere. Many people here are also commenting how south India is better but I have lived in south India for 4 years and once our college organised a drive to clean Sabrimala. There was a river on the way to the temple and people were bathing in it and discarded clothes of the devotees were floating on it , but people were still taking bath in the murky water. While I was posted in Madhya Pradesh I ordered poha and the guy casually scratched his ass with his hands and served me poha. Bald calls this "goodness" in one of his earlier videoes that he shot in India. Once in Madhya Pradesh I was walking between the two standing buses I felt some wet thing drop on my neck , I looked up and saw a woman was spitting gutka from the window of the bus. This Gutka eating habit is worst in MP. In my office from the manager to the peon ate gutka and all had bad teeth. Once I went to the famous parathe wali gali with my sister and these people were literally touching the dough with their feet. Now I am posted in Jammu and here also I see the same things. Just visit the Bus stand in Jammu and you will see , there is no maintenance . It is a newly constructed bus stand but you will see gutka marks everywhere. I haven't gone to the northeast but what I have heard is that they are better than us. I dont agree with other things he says but about the hygiene and cleanliness he is spot on.

It wasn't always like this, not back in Columbus's day. India's issue is basically failed modernization, they got it halfway done, stopped, and the scaled that bad system x1000 all the way saying that fixing things would be too difficult. As someone who grew up in Salzburg, Austria (not a 5 star hotel obviously) I've travelled to India twice and there are many beautiful parts of the country.
Especially in the South, the Kerala backwaters and beaches, Kochin, Hampi, the highlands of Tamil Nadu with villages like Ooty... friendly people, fascinating culture and stunning landscapes. In contrast, Delhi and Mumbai are hellholes. Bangalore is cleaner and more organized but I think all the big cities are incredibly hectic.

Modern China is incredible of course. The Indian people have the individual qualities to make it (smart, hardworking), but the society itself has issues that need to be examined and rectified without shame, dogma that needs to be thrown out.

Many people here saying that he filmed the worst locations of India and he could have shown the beautiful locations. I am from Himachal and have travelled the length and breadth of the country. Just look down the slopes of any tourist place here in Himachal and others in the country you will see plastic wrappers, bottles, everywhere. Many people here are also commenting how south India is better but I have lived in south India for 4 years and once our college organised a drive to clean Sabrimala. There was a river on the way to the temple and people were bathing in it and discarded clothes of the devotees were floating on it , but people were still taking bath in the murky water. While I was posted in Madhya Pradesh I ordered poha and the guy casually scratched his ass with his hands and served me poha. Bald calls this "goodness" in one of his earlier videoes that he shot in India. Once in Madhya Pradesh I was walking between the two standing buses I felt some wet thing drop on my neck , I looked up and saw a woman was spitting gutka from the window of the bus. This Gutka eating habit is worst in MP. In my office from the manager to the peon ate gutka and all had bad teeth. Once I went to the famous parathe wali gali with my sister and these people were literally touching the dough with their feet. Now I am posted in Jammu and here also I see the same things. Just visit the Bus stand in Jammu and you will see , there is no maintenance . It is a newly constructed bus stand but you will see gutka marks everywhere. I haven't gone to the northeast but what I have heard is that they are better than us. I dont agree with other things he says but about the hygiene and cleanliness he is spot on.

India's issue is basically failed modernization, they got it halfway done, stopped, and the scaled that bad system x1000 all the way saying that fixing things would be too difficult. Truth is it was never too difficult, and still isn't, they just don't have enough support in the population to make it happen.
