  • In this video you would get to see the Roosevelt Roads Navy Hospital as it is today 2023. This hospital had 200 bed capacity and the structure was built so well that even after 20 years it still is in a repairable condition.

Good morning and thank you. I lived in the hospital dorm, the building adjacent to the hospital for the first 18 months of my assignment before moving to housing. First daughter was born there and first wife was a corpsman there. Lots of memories.

I was there the same time as Don. The best chow hall I ever ate at. The chef would bring in fresh pineapples from his garden and with his made to order omelets always a good breakfast. It all looked the same from when I left in 1977. Except I think there were a few more trees looking down toward the ocean. Thanks for views Jeff H

I lived next to the hospital at the Seabee base and was courting a Navy girl who worked & lived in the hospital, I took her sailing on a Lazer sailboat in the harbor. I also took windsurfing lessons on Roosie Roads. I met a local girl there too at the enlisted club, we met again off base and she came to a cook out on the CB beach with me. I was 23 then 1984, so long ago.

Great video and really cool to jog some memories. I got my appendix out shortly after we transferred here. Were contractors allowed to go to the hospital? TBH- it is this experience of 'government healthcare' that ran pretty well and got the care you needed that always makes me wistful for what could be.

@spvideo68 l would greatly appreciate that. I operated it from 85 to 89. I developed respiratory issues during that time that have carried over to today. Of course, the Navy has lost my 14 year long medical records.

Wasn't there an earlier hospital, adjacent to the Bundy barracks area?

    • @spvideo68

If there was one must have been back in the 1950s or 60s. I know that there is a dental clinic in Bundy I have not covered that one yet. Thanks for watching.

So sad to see how 10s of millions in taxpayer money goes wasted once the powers to be close a base and the state or territory lets it rot away!!
