My father (@ VC 8) and I lived at #6 Ticonderoga in 88 until 91. That place defined my life! I have tried to explain to many friends of my experiences but this video was better than anything I can explain. My photos were unfortunately destroyed by a former spouse and these videos have brought so many memories back. Thank you!!!
Was there 76-79 as an Air Force Vet Tech. Was single when I arrived and lived in the Hosp Barracks. Got married to a Corpsman and lived on Yorktown. Out of my 22+ year Air Force career, this was my favorite assignment and I still have many friends from there and we are still connected and get together frequently via Zoom and in person.
I was there in '79 for about a week's training exercise with my VP squadron from NAS Brunswick, Maine. I was blown away by the lush tropical beauty of it all. It was a fantastic base. I have fond memories of the marina, and especially of the huge base swimming pool. Being an avid swimmer, I could've stayed in that pool for hours, lol. Anyway, had the time of my life there. Too bad our training only lasted a week... I was so sad when we had to leave and head back to cold, wintry Maine.
We lived in Rosey from '76-'79. It was the most amazing place to be a kid. True story - after PR, we were stationed in Norfolk, VA where my dad retired. Many, MANY years later, I made a friend through a mutual interest group who was the last person to live at 12 Hornet Road before we moved in! I missed meeting her by literal days. Yay for the PR connection. Being a Navy brat has its perks in that I can find a friend damn near anywhere :-)
Served in Roosey fr. 84-87. (BEQ Dept). Watching this video really took me back. It was just the way I remembered it. Thanks to all that served or lived in Roosey! Bless you all!
My family lived there from 1962-1964. Those were my earliest memories as a child. My dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Marines at the time and he was stationed there. We moved from there to Camp Pendleton MCB, California. We lived on base from 1964-65 and moved to Oceanside in 1965. Dad was promoted to GySgt and was deployed in 1965 to Vietnam with the 3rd Marines and participated in Operation Starlite.
From listening to the music - that is a David Sanborn song CIRCA 1980 approximately. Stationed there from 1983 - 1985. Best duty stationed I served at in my 30 years of enlisted Naval service.
Hey Ed - I was the CO's yeoman from 83 to 85, first it was Captain Keathley and then Captain Mazzadri - best duty station and best part of my life . . . ever.
I was there as a young teen in 63-66......sure enjoyed seeing your video...even though it was totally different in the mid 60's..went to school in an old barracks....hung out down the street at the Mariposa (ge dunk)...there was a teen club....played sports against other schools all over the island..would love to see a 60's video!
Wow i never thought i would see a video like this of Roosey Roads. I had a lot of fond memories there. I lived there from 79 to 82 my dad was career Navy. I went to the primary school and Roosey Roads High School til 6th grade. Lived on 33 Lexington drive or way i forget Enlisted housing. All the streets were named after old navy ships. Played little league baseball, soccer and football. Used to hang out at the Teen Club by the community center and Morales field. And buy comic books at the mini mart. Riding my bike or even walking to community beach I remember there being a little rivalry betwen the officers kids and the enlisted kids. Had a lot of good friends and memories. I wish I can go back to this time of my childhood. Good times.
Oh Thank you very much for the walk down memory lane. I was stationed there 81-83 AIMD-Avoinics. Loved the station and the people of the island, would of reenlisted for RR if those in charge didn't make it sort of like a hell like they did back during that time frame. Very sad to see that the Navy closed down such a beautiful base.
Aw yes Good old Rosy Road where I learned how to drive the Vomit Comet when I turned 21 . We used to drive the pick up bus for the late night bar / fright in the bus run , at the end of the night we would fire hose it out .
Radioman from 1989 -1991 on Roosy Roads. Thank you soooo much for the memories. However I did not see the Roosy Roads Club that we use to party at. LOL
