I left in December 1988. I worked at AFWTF and I thank you for the videos. I can watch your videos and see how much the island has changed since I left. My son was born at the Naval Hospital and even though it is on a base, his birth certificate was issued in Spanish. I say he is my little Puerto Rican. I grounded my boat on those string of rocks one night. The next morning we went back to get it and had to have another boat pull us off the rocks when high tide came in.
We were there 93-96 and my son was born at the hospital too in 94. Those are the most beautiful birth certificates! My ex husband was stationed at VC-8
Sammy, When i go out of the Navy in 1976 i went to work in the off shore oil field and got my 100 ton license and ran crew boats and offshore survey vessels for several years. Looks like our careers have been along the same line. I also started out as a mechanic when i was young.. great memories.
Found your page from a shipmate of mine who lived at 1 Essex. I visited the base in 2019 but felt lost and was sad that I wasn’t able to really reminisce. Your videos mean the world to me. Thank you for capturing these! AIMD 97-99.

My brothers and I were young kids, when my dad was stationed there working for Admiral Flukey in the 1960s at Carribean Sea Command USN operations center. I don't remember much of that as a child. Your videos bring back great family memories of our time there.
I was stationed there from 80-83 as a CB at Public Works & 84-85 with NMCB 40. Fun Fact, I turned 18,19, 20 & 22 there. I turned 21 in Guam. Thanks for the great vids.
I was there from 78-82. I was at Security and worked for MACS John Lippolis. Lived on Yorktown Circle. My husband ACCS Jon Fullagar was at Air Ops. I am sad to see how neglected the old base has become. Thanks for the videos and the memories!
Thank you Sammy. This is absolutely fascinating. I lived there as a young teenager with my family from 74 to 77. We had a sailboat and made frequent trips to Vieques and once to Culebra. I was also very privileged to have a horse and participate in the Island wide horse culture. I wonder if you have any way of finding out whatever happened to the stables there? They were so many horses! they lived together very well out in the pastures, running free most of the day except when we would come after school to ride and groom them. I have so many memories of that time.thank you Again. This is both fascinating and creepy.
Thanks for watching, I have a map that points out where the stables were at so I will try to see if there is something left. I know that a programmer named Phil had some horses and they were located in the bundy area in some old wharehouses which are still there.
Great job on these videos. I used to fly into Rosy on leave on military hops from everywhere once I went in the Marines in 1978. What a shame to see all that infrastructure gone. Again, great job. Thank you!
This is so great, Sammy! it brought tears to my eyes as I remember that view outside our front door as a kid. We lived on Cabot drive just a few doors down from the Admiral in the early 70s. That house in the beginning of ur vid may have been the Admirals. Was that Cabot Drive where you were standing?

That would ruin the whole spirit of this channel. Your videos are mini documentaries that can be enjoyed by all. Very interesting stuff, and probably a good dose of nostalgia for the military personnel and civilians that worked at the base.
@@bethfischerhomes yes its the first room I cover in the video. I did not walk towards the lockers or other room since it was dark and at the time of recording I did not have a light!
I left from there with my gourd section to go berbata West Indian we where only one near by because there was tracking sight being takin over and president Reagan secretary west was on stand by if we get gob done but marine always do

I love your videos! Brings back so many memories of being a Navy Brat when my dad was stationed there. From living on 4 Hancock in Navy Housing. From sliding down the back of the hill where our house stood. The Sea bees cleared that hill all the way to the ocean and my dad bought my brother and I a plastic swimming pool and we used that to slide down it. As kids we rode the bus on Sundays to the movie theater by ourselves to catch a matinee. This is in the early 70's. 69-73 to be exact. My dad was Stationed at AFAR and I so remember the Golf Course being flooded when we had Tropical Downpours. There was this little eatery at the top of the Hill by the Elementary School that had the BEST food! I could go on and on but again THANKS for the videos and THANKS for bringing back such WONDERFUL Memories to me!!!

My dad was a CB assigned to public works also. We were stationed there 65-66. Viet Nam cut our tour short 😢. He went to NMCB 74.
