What’s the name of your hotel please.
Hey there. I can’t remember off the top of my head but it’s linked in the videos description, below the title
@@SuitcaseMonkey thank you, one more question can I use the lisboa card to fatima? Thank you in advance
I shouldn't be revealing this secret, but if you're planning on getting a metro ticket at the airport and the line is really long, just walk past the machines and take your first right. There is another ticket machine, which will be against the wall on your right. It's the secret machine and almost never has a queue.
I'm heading there tomorrow so thanks!
@@adriankelly_edinburgh Im heading there next month - thanks!!!!!
Thank you!
Thank u so much. Mid June for me 2023. Good weather per your helpful info. 1 less research. Is USA currency accepted?
@@deonnemills-louis1813 no, USD is not accepted. Only Euros. You can use card essentially everywhere, but American Express is not accepted in some places.
You guys rock!!! I'm planning a trip to Lisbon and maybe Porto on september and this video is great and super helpful. THANKS A LOT!!!
These tips are right on time for me! Headed to Lisbon in May -- thank you!
This was a fantastic video!! I found it very useful! Really looking forward to doing all this on my next trip to Lisbon! Thanks!
Your videos are so helpful...can't wait to go this March!
Omg thank you. I will be visiting Lisbon in 3 weeks time. Excited.😍
Thank you again for excellent reporting and the information. We like your very truthful descriptions and advice. Certainly good to hear before we visit Lisbon. Best wishes
I went to Sintra back in Nov 2019. It was a weekday and I got there right at opening. Bit of a line but not too many people ahead of me. Managed to get to one of the upper spots to snag several shots of the palace without any people in it.
Good video! Hopefully I can return in the future and visit some of the restaurants you mentioned in your vlog.
This video was great for a general idea about Lisbon especially with what to know with weather ❤
Great tips! Love the style of your video, short and to the point, great footage.
Great stuff! Really appreciated and nice to meet you and your lass 😊
Great tips, always very detailed, thank you
One of the best videos advising an individual about touring Lisbon
Thank you so much for the options w the tours at Sintra, lots of choices. Planning to go in May
Glad to come across your channel and this episode. Very helpful advice. We're headed there in Sept.
Short detailed and sweet awesome video thx
At the Pastéis de Belém shop you eat Pastéis de Belém, not Patéis de Nata. The ones that you find everywhere else in the country are Pastéis de Nata, which have kind of an "open source" recipe, whilst the Pastéis de Belém are trademarked, exclusive and have a secret recipe.
Very useful and informative video! Thank you👍
Thank you. Excellent travel advise. We are going in March for 2 weeks.
Thank you for the GREAT info!
GREAT VIDEO- THANKS FOR SHARING- VERY INFORMATIVE
These videos are insanely insightful. Thank you!
Thank you my friend! Glad they help. 😍
thank u so much for the video. we'll visit in September soon exiting!!!
Nice work fella. Heading there next Sunday and your video was very helpful. Thanks man.
Enjoy!
Thank you for the details, I’m planning family vacation this summer.
wow! great video. this is what the people want
One of the most, possibly the most comprihensive vidios of what to do and in/outs of Lisbon. THANK YOU!!! Visiting early June (3 days). PS: Wish I could afford the recommended hotel...Wayy over my budget. lol :)
Really great video. Thank you!
Good video made sense for a short visit ( time constraint)
Kudos to maker 💐💐💐
Great vlog my daughter and I are visiting in April. Can't wait
Thank you so much for such an informative video took your advice and just booked an airbnb close to rossio station going there on April 13th.
Great tips on getting around on the Lisbon pass/ticket. Just in time, too…We are visiting late January
The tip on skipping the Santa’s justa lift is fantastic. It really helps you shave an hour of waiting. Very cool. To be honest the best views of the city are not from this platform anyway. You can easily skip this and go to the Arch at the square and go up and the views are magnificent and there is no queue here. Santa justa is just a tourist trap. the name of the arch is Arco da Rua Augusta
I think we were there too if I remember
well done....this will help me when i go to Lisbon in February. Thanks again
Faye (CANADA)
Thanks a lot for your info very useful
I'm booking a ticket to Lisbon as we speak, this video really helped me prepare. Thank you so much!
Have fun!
Very useful. Thank you!
I followed all your suggestions and it turned out to be so much better than if I’d have done it without watching the video.
What an endorsement! Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for the tips! Very excited for Madeira, especially about transport, how to reach the starting point for hikes.
Hey thanks. I’m editing that at the moment. It’s looking beautiful!
Cool tips. Thanks. Planning to finally visit my home country from Canada July 2024!
Beautiful video and funny as always. Thank you, Suitcase Monkey! Greetings from Germany!
Nice video!
Another great video. Thanks for sharing your tips and the One Direction pop-up made me laugh 😆.
Hehe
We will be visiting Portugal in 2023, so I'm all eyes and ears on your videos! Thank you.
Me too, in April 🙂
Me too; late September into October for 8 days .
Great guide, went in April and saw a clearer pena Palace, quite a bit of walking but great, sweeping views. Agree on the interior being eh, didn't get to castle of the moors but did see it from a distance
Awesome my friend 👍👍👍
THANK YOU VERY INFORMATIVE💯
YOU ARE MOST WELCOME
We’re going for our second visit in January. Your video was nice to watch! Porto and Lisbon are both in our top 5 list of favorite cities in Europe.
Haven’t been to Porto but heard great things. Definitely on the list for a future trip. Enjoy!
@@SuitcaseMonkey Can certainly recommend Porto, especially if you are into photography, it may even be more pretty than Lisbon. Always love your videos, good job! :)
Excellent video
Hi! Thanks for all the tips. I'm planning a trip to Portugal for this summer: 4 days in Porto, 5 in Lisbon and then 10 days in the Algarve. For Lisbon I thought of doing two excursions: Sintra and Cascais. I'm a solo backpacker and I don't like pre-packaged trips. Thanks again and greetings from (a gloomy) Italian-speaking Switzerland!👍🤘🇵🇹
Definitely don’t miss Sintra and Cascais.
Hey Simone, have you done your trip yet? If you want advice from a native, hit me up. I could give you some non-touristy pointers, the best parts of our country are not as well-known (even though Sintra is actually a one-of-a-kind amazing place).
@@GParreira91 Hi! Goncalo. I've booked the B&B and I've written a travel plan. I still have to book the train and busses. I think I'll take the train from Porto to Llisbon, the Rede bus from Lisbon to Vila Nova de Milfontes and the Rede bus from Vila Nova De Milfontes to Lagos. If you have suggestions, they are welcomed. Thanx!
@@GParreira91 Anyway, where do you live in Portugal?
My wife and I visited Sintra & Pena Palace in Jan 2019. We had a very short wait and beautiful weather.
Thanks so much, these are very useful tips!! I will let you know how we fare! We
may move our trip back from October to September per your weather recap.
You’re welcome. Please do some other research on the weather. I wouldn’t want you to change your plans just because of me!
Great video and tips, I was also in Portugal in October! I was in the country for almost 2 weeks and it was a great experience! In addition to the Lisbon and Sintra, I also went to Cascais, Porto, and Braga. I would definitely recommend people check out Portugal.
That Santa Justa Lift tip would have come in handy for me.
Pena Palace looked foggy for me just like it was for you, but it made for a magical experience in my opinion and the weather cleared for the rest of the day for me. I somehow managed to see nearly everything in Sintra in one day. I saw Pena Palace, then the Moorish Castle, then Quinta da Regaleira, then the Monserrate Palace, then the National Palace of Sintra, and I even wandered the main town a bit. It is possible, but it was an all day nearly non-stop experience and I was dead tired by the end, no regrets though.
Thanks for your input interesting to hear.
Hi, I'll be going there in October too! How to do suggest I pack my clothing? More thin clothing or thick clothing? Thank you! 😊
@@lilysusanti1347 I did mostly thin clothing with a few thicker warmer pieces. The weather was generally very good, but having a light extra layer or a jacket or an umbrella came in handy a few times. Wearing bulky items like a jacket instead of packing it for the flight definitely saves space. I've also had some packing success with tightly rolling up clothes instead of folding them.
@@totalbrootal Thank you so much! 😃
Although I probably won't be getting to Portugal it looks and sounds very nice, especially Sinatra.
As usual your videos have been very informative, and interesting! My favorite is definitely Japan. If you ever make it out to the Central Coast of California, I'd be glad to show you both around to some cool places to eat and the local redwood forest hiking experience if you want to explore the trails.
Merry Christmas and thanks again! 👌
"Sintara" it says...
@@joaocalhao4595Sintra. I think it is our auto corrects working overtime😂
Yeees de Bakalhau or fish and potato is such a treat. I discovered it by chance in Porto. The buildinvvhhere is amaizing with library and live Orgel music.
Omg I never knew they were a thing until I stumbled upon it. So tasty!
Really helpful video! I am planning summer vacation in Portugal with my teenagers. Was not sure where to go. Now I guess I am pretty much to Lisbon. Thank you very much for the tips!
Good interesting Video.
With reference to the Pastel De Bacalhau, (12:50) we visited the same outlet at the top of the Santa Justa lift by the Carmo Convent, purchased the cod cake & port & we were charged €12.50 each! Tasty but too expensive. But they gave us the glasses & a small bag.
According to one of our guides in the Azores it is not a traditional dish & we were ripped off.
Sep 23.
Hi! This was a great video! I’m planning a trip to Portugal in December. I noticed you mentioned the weather is pretty rainy during that month. My baggers question is what to pack? I should I bring jackets? Boot? Do you think the weather will affect heavily on my site seeing? Thank you 🙂
Your travel tips always come in handy! By the way, have you come across the new V4 of the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane? I recently discovered it and thought it could be a game-changer for staying organized during trips, just like your tips!
One direction 🤣 your hilarious love your
Videos
Hehe
Wow! Very nice. Wish your video was available a month ago, I would’ve changed everything to match what you have 😂 Not saying my trip to Lisbon wasn’t great but it could’ve been better. We did have a great day trip to Fatima, Batalha, Nazare and Obidos. Great travel tips!
Haha thank you and sorry 😂
@@SuitcaseMonkey No problem. Did you guys go to Porto? That’s the next stop 😂😂
No we didn’t but a reason to return! Madeira we went to which will be coming soon
@@SuitcaseMonkey I look forward to see all the fun you’ll have. Hoping we duplicate your upcoming trip with equal amounts of fun! 😂 I look forward to the Madeira video. We didn’t go there but I was considering it. Thanks again for all that you do. Your travel tips help tremendously 😁
Very much enjoyed your informative video on Lisbon. I have a question about the Lisbon card. Once activated, do the days have to be consecutive or can you pause and restart the cards? Keep up the great videos.
Hey thanks. Yes they have to be consecutive. They best way to do it is to visit the attractions whilst the card is active and if it runs out just get the Viva card for transport only at the end
My dream to travel around the world
Good info! I was looking at Lisbon in Feb but we're flying from CPH and it's so expensive! What happened to all the great European deals😅? Better from London, I assume. Good video!
Campo DE Ourique and Quinta DA Regaleira. You're welcome.
We enjoyed your TH-cam about Lisbon. We will be visiting Lisbon in November, 1 - 3, 2023. I will appreciate if you could recommend the following:
a) hotel (2 nights) preferably within the center of Lisbon and
b) tour packages for 2 days in Lisbon.
Thank you very much.
Prasit
Boston
Thanks. I have them linked in the description
1:00 got me, this is not a ferry 😂
Behind the Santa Justa lift is another modern public lift, which takes you directly up for free. There are many of these lifts throughout central Lisbon, including one which virtually takes you to the Castle.
Hope you tried the famous Piri-Piri Chicken!.
Hey there. Really enjoying your content as we will be doing a road trip from Lisbon to Porto. Do you also have the downloadable PDF like the one you have for Porto? Thanks!
Thanks. Not a full PDF if I remember right but most of the links mentioned are in the description written there
For the Viva card, can I purchase 5 days 24 hours pass at the same time? Thanks!
❤❤❤❤
The 1.5 Euro charge at the top of the Santa Justa lift is to go to the very top (not the enclosed portion where you filmed). But i do agree with the Carmo Convent hack (though, there's a more convenient hack without having to hike up to the convent)
Hey. Thanks. I’m confused. The bit we went to was the very top?
@@SuitcaseMonkey Your footage showed you filming through the fence. There are stairs to the actual top of the lift, you have to enter a turnstile and pay the 1.5 EUR to get to the stairs which take you to the observation platform which is unenclosed
Thanks for the reply. All I know is when we came from the Convent side, we walked onto the main viewing platform that had no higher area and we were free to walk around, with no turn styles and then we took the lift back to the floor. There was no other level higher than where we were. Unless things have changed we were fee to walk around all the outside top area.
Thanks for the very useful tips! How did you purchase Sintra's attraction tickets with the Lisboa Card? It seems like there isn't an online option to do so (in order to skip the queue). Appreciate if you (or anyone here) have any advice, thanks!
Hey. The Sintra tickets aren’t included in the Lisbon card (just the train there). I’ve linked the tickets for Sintra in the description. It skips the queue to buy tickets but everyone joins the queue to get into the palace.
@@SuitcaseMonkey Appreciate you getting back! Love the videos too :)
Hello, do you still need a ticket if you are just going to visit the garden and the exterior of the palace like the terrace? I do not plan to go inside the palace.
Please go to Israel, Turkey, Albania and Montenegro. Bon voyage!
We’re planning on visiting Lisbon in October. Your video was a huge help!!! Which hotel did y’all stay at in Lisbon…The one with the mirror/television?
Hey thanks. It’s linked in the description
SUMMER PORTUGAL 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇪🇺🇪🇺❤️❤️🥰👑🔝🔝♠️♠️💎💎🌹🌹💯💯🇲🇫🇲🇫
Great video and matched my experience in May almost exactly. My Sintra trip was enshrouded in fog as well, but that made the castle walls portion feel quite surreal. Monty Python and the Holy Grail vibe...
Haha yeah. It's interesting to hear that's been a similar experience with people and Sintra as I haven't found many people talking about it online previously...
I visited Pena and Moorish castle in the fog. didnt mind missing the view too much as Pamela Castle was better. But, it did give it a great mystic vibe.
Thank you for the video. Do I still need a ticket just to see the gardens of the pena palace in sintra?
Hi. Yes.
There may be a gardens only ticket tho
do you happen to know if there are any monthly passes for metro/train/bus purchasable in lisbon? :(+
👏🏻✈️
Do you have to activate the Lisbon card at the airport or how else can you activate it? I’m flying in to Porto and then coming down to Lisbon later on
Hello, we are planning a one day trip to Sintra in February. How much time would you recommend spending at both Peña Palace and the Castle of the Moors? In doing so, what time slots would you recommend us booking our tickets for? Thank you.
2 hours each one ,but visit quinta da regaleira too in sintra ,check on you tube ,in february you ok to visit not that much people, spend the day there
Thanks for your video, it's extremely helpful. One thing I missed is the name of the hotel you stayed in Lisbon. Could you let me know?
Hey. Thanks. I can’t remember but it’s linked in the videos description just below the title
This video is very helpful in our planning for our upcoming visit to Lisbon thanks. But I don't seem to be able to find the link to the hotel that you refer to (I am vision impaired). What was the name of the hotel please. Thanks again.

Excellent travel advise. What is the name of this Hotel
It’s linked in the description
We are debating if we should get the Lisbon card, we are spending one week in Lisbon and also home to get to Sintra. The Lisbon card is just good for 72 hours.
It’s worth it if you want to see the attractions that come free with it. So you could just bunch seeing those attractions over a few days and then just use the travel card the rest of the time. Otherwise if not, then it probably isn’t.
What month was thıs vısıt to Sintra?
May I ask, which website you use to buy bus pass around sintra?
Hey. We just bought on the bus
I wish I had looked at your video before waiting 3 hours for the Santa Justa lift - so not worth it!
Three hours?!?!
Couldn’t have been more timely. We are planning to visit soon. How many total days did you spend in Portugal?
Hey. 4 full days. Not sure if you saw the main travel vlog which shows what we got up to over that time
@@SuitcaseMonkey thank you yes I did see your other vlog I thought it was 4 full days for Lisbon only. Thanks for clarifying
Oh sorry. I read it wrong. 4 days in Lisbon 4 days in Madeira
So to understand this properly, there is no way of exploring Sintra with your own car? If yes, are there parkinglots?
Portugal mein heimatland🇵🇹🇵🇹🇺🇸
Hello, found your video so great. I was wondering if you could share your google map link? I'm planning to go next week
