@@TheDeepThinker-sq3iy why is there any confusion? look at the world map. look where Hawaii is and look where japan is. it's just an ocean. i think what the mother in sun and moon says describes perfectly how it is.
I think the references to actual places in the real world (mostly during Gen 1) exist due the fact that Pokémon was very likely going to take place on a fantasy version of the real world (notice how Kanto is the only region to have the exact same name as the region is based on). If you see the map for the Pokémon Gold & Silver Spaceworld 97 demo, you see that the entire region it's shaped like Japan, and Kanto has been downscaled into a single town that would represent the area of Kanto in a map of Japan. (This also helps to disprove the "Kanto War" theory; Lt. Surge being the 'american lightning' and having fought on war more likely refers to the Gulf War) Naturally as the series moved forward they would distance themselves from the real world as it would raise questions about real-life events.
Yeah, I think Lt. Surge likely is a veteran from another interregional war (maybe the Korean War, that would explain why Kanto welcomed him with open arms lol) who decided to seek political asylum in Japan due to being a war criminal (he DID shock his enemies, that has to be against the Geneva convention or something.) Now, he satiates his sadistic urges by hazing young children looking to take on the GYM challenge, having them perform humiliating rituals such as digging through garbage to reset a fucking switch like they’re in some kind of Japanese - er, Kantonian - game show.... I don’t think it’s the Gulf War only because wouldn’t Middle Eastern/desert people generally have access to ground-type Pokemon? Which are strong against electric? 🤔 Another option could be Yugoslavia, except Surge would have had to serve under NATO and not the United States directly. This could explain why Unova/other US regions don’t specifically reference any war even having gone on topically, but how Surge was indeed in a war. If he was an American soldier essentially offered up to NATO to help in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the early 90s, that could work. Or it was indeed the Gulf War and Surge found a way to get around type immunity/just sent out Electrodes at his enemies.
Admiral Smoker Not really. Phoebe never says she is from another region. In fact, she says that her family has had ownership of Mt. Pyre for a long time, and even speaks to her grandma’s spirit there. It’s possible part of her family emigrated from Alola, but she could also just like to wear Alola-style clothes because it’s considered trendy. Sort of like nearly no one who wears “Hawaiian shirts” is from Hawaii. As far as Surge, he could be from Unova, or he could be from another region that’s yet unnamed which is not in the East Coast of the US. (Unova is pretty much only NY/NJ.) So, him being “The Lightning American” still makes sense. And I like to think of regions more as states, so for example Kalos is only part of France, and Galar only part of the physical landmass where the UK is (Ireland is totally missing.) So Unova could be the same, just the tri-state area, and not the entire United States. Like Sinnoh/Battle Frontier, Johto, Kanto/Sevii, and Hoenn make up at least a large part of Japan.
This was my thought train Gen 1 mentioned stuff like American(lt surge) and South America (in reference to mew) This implied at the very least that Kanto (and thus JOhto ) were PART of poke earth Japan. Perhaps countries still existed and contained various regions (like how the US has the west, south, midwest, etc...) So by that logic UNOVANS would be americans. However there probably wasn't a ton of plans for as many regions as we have now so it bein an alternate verison of Japan is fine- japan can be split into parts like the Kanto and JOhto regions as well as hoenn and sinnoh. But then along came Gen 4 If I recall correctly (or was it gen 3) either way one of those 2 remake gens be it FR/LG or HG/SS removed references to south america. This i feel was the first sorta 'retcon' of sorts and if itwas Gen 4 then it was cause they already had plans for Unova under way and needed to remove reference to America since no longer was pokemon just set in a slightly different version of our world. Suddenly tihngs were going to be much more complicated.
LT. Surge IS NOT from japan or regions based in it. People call him like American and his design has little eyes, that's used to represent foreigners. Sorry for bad english i wrote that fast
An NPC in Akala island (when u first get off the boat) I think tells the player that people form Johto and Kanto came to Alola a long time ago which is probably explains why there are mostly Alolan forms of kantonian Pokémon
I personally just believe they are located in the exact same place of their real-world counterparts as in the pokemon world. I'm hoping if there's another DLC for sword/shield that can bring us to the North of Wyndonn and access the Kalos region, also this can conveniently bring back Mega-evolution. Unova is actually based on part of New York and New Jersey, it's quite far away from Arizona.
That's literally impossible because each region already specifies where North, South, East and West is. And Hoenn is flipped 90 degrees to its real world counterpart where as Galar is flipped 180 degrees. So no they can't be placed like in the real world.
You forgot about the Cave of Being in Unova. Its official description says it’s connected to the Sinnoh region, so I think they must be close to each other
@@KennyJamesRX8 The caves don't have to be connected *physically*, they could be connected with portals. Another possibility is the Cave of Being description is referring to symbolic connection -- Like the Cave of Being being "connected" to the Sinnoh Legends somehow. That seems most likely actually.
Unova is based off of New York and takes inspiration from different parts of America as well, but map shape wise it’s just New York so the orre region could be on the same land mass as unova just quite away from it.
Any map that puts Sinnoh below any of the other Japan-based regions is not a very well thought out map...in my opinion. Thanks for pointing that out! I used to grumble to myself about that for years.
Pokemon MMORPG with full time combat instead of turn based Starting on Kanto with all the original Pokemon and with every expansion they would add a new region and more pokemon
It'd be interesting to see, for sure. Gamefreak probably would never do this unless the series has progressed to a point where they want to go out with a bang, because otherwise it'd get in the way of the changes to continuity Gamefreak can make every time they introduce a new generation/region, and that would by proxy get in the way of the cash cow that is Pokemon. Part of the appeal for players is returning to explore new aspects of the Pokemon world, like gaining a new puzzle piece for a larger puzzle each time. However, it may be possible to see this in the form of a fan game/rom hack. PokeMMO is the closest to that idea as of now (it currently features Kanto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova). However, even PokeMMO has had a hard time adjusting the experience system of Pokemon to fit the size of multiple regions without the introduction of levels past 100 and game-breaking stats. As a result, in PokeMMO you basically can only play the games like normal (there are new obedience caps set in place, but you still can't bring Pokemon from, say, Hoenn to Unova, unless you've become Champion of both regions, I believe). There are ways to implement a system where you truly can explore the entire Pokemon world, but changes would have to be made. Either, the leveling system would have to be completely retconned to scale down level progression throughout the events of each region, or the level cap and stat system would have to be retconned and scaled up beyond the current limits, which to be fair, Pokemon has (sort of) done before with Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Dynamax/Gigantamax. The best method I can currently think of to keep the rules of the Pokemon mythos intact while also being able to experience every region, would be to region-lock Pokemon, at least until the level cap for obedience has been maxed out in multiple regions, similarly to the system of PokeMMO. That is, if the story taking place would be one where you don't go to another region until you have conquered the league of your home region. I wanna know what other people have to say about this.
I'm sure someone probably mentioned it somewhere in the comments but there is an NPC in SwSh who says that some people can swim from Galar to Kalos (I think Route 9 but don't quote me on that), much like the English Channel in real life, which is roughly a 21 mile swim from England to France.
If you look at the picture in a house in dewford of oras with a man, woman, and zigzagoon, that picture is the world map you mention in serebii's website.
You gotta make an updated version of this everytime a new Pokemon game comes out! Would like to see one with Scarlet and Violet, plus the DLC for Sword and Shield in the southern part of Galar!
I imagine the damage caused by that war would've been recovered already because it was 3,000 years ago. The population of pokemon would've recovered over that time. I think it more has to do with Orre just being really inhospitable
I think you should’ve flipped the map of Galar. The “clouded area” is Crown Tundra, and at the end of that area is an open ocean, which would be north of the UK in real life. Northern Kalos would be very close to Wyndon
One thing that could help see how regions are connected is being able to travel to a second region in a main game. You know, the thing we've been begging for since 2003?
If you look at the artwork for Johto's map, you can see what looks like a desert North of Ecruteak city and the Miltank farm. This could very well be part of Orre and would push Sinnoh further North and/or East.
Pretty sure that's a topographical map, which is indicating mountains, if I'm thinking of what you're describing. You can see something similar at Mt. Coronet, which, well There isn't a desert anywhere near there. This indicates Mt Coronet is part of a mountain range, and that there's likely a mountain or range of mountains near Ecruteak City
@@V.G.Boy.. It's beige and flat, so it's pretty much the opposite of a mountain range. There is a mountain range to the East of Ecruteak, but not to its Northwest.
With Kanto being based on the Kanto region of Japan and Alola being based on Hawaii in the US it makes sense. If you look at a map of the real world, Japan is always on the far right while Hawaii is always on the far left. Despite them being pretty close in reality, looking at a map makes them seem like they are as far away from each other as you can get on a map. This would make that statement entirely factual if one were to look at a map of the Pokemon world as well and lead people to assume that they are indeed on opposite sides of the world.
Yes but the world is a globe, so they could just mean that its the furthest away on a flat map but close on a global scale. This explains why theres the eastern towns in alola and ALSO hawwaii is a in the middle of america and japan irl so if unova is new york (the opposite coast) then alola is probably closer to kanto than unova
Spain and France have had wars, and they’re directly connected in real life as well. Italy has had conflict as well, perhaps they took over the missing southern coast of Kalos where it would be in relation to real life France
Now that the Paldea region has been introduced in Gen 9, we should expect a connection between Paldea and Kalos as part of the DLC. The out-of-bounds area where this DLC will be added is in exactly the area where Spain and France connect. And there's a fair amount of evidence that the new (past) Paradox Forms are the historic DNA potential that Mega Evolution draws from to create Mega forms.
Best way to think about it is it's based on the real world where stuff gets retconned. Any mentions of a previous country will be replaced once that country becomes a region
it's not that simple when actual real world places are mentioned though, and when the regions dont all look like the real world countries they're based off of
I just realized something: if they were to remake gen 5 the regional dex could be changed to include Unova's 156 plus a selection of pokemon from gen 6 and gen 8 as Europeans did introduce some animals to the Americas when they started colonizing it. They could be in the form of the same species or Unovan variants. Also no pokemon from the first 4 generations or gen 7 because they are too far away. I just want game freak to do a kinda clever bit of world building for a change instead of shoehorning pikachu, charizard and eevee down our throats again.
@@jarredallen3228 or they remake both games, they both have exclusive stuff that separates them from one to another and they can do a case in which if BW2 remake recognizes a BW save file of the same system, there's a special episode that connects the two games
I love these type of videos!!!! I wish there were more channels dedicated to talking about the pokemon world and its inner workings. I have so many more questions. Like , do people living in one region have knowledge of other people living in other regions? What about school for children and jobs? Why is ok for a 10 year old to go off on his own and how does he earn money to eat and sleep? So im guessing there is no highschool or middleschool in the pokemon world? Soo many questions haha
In Diamond and Pearl, Sinnoh is said to be an island. My guess is that what is south of it is Almia from Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Other than that I agree with everything in this video
In black/white 2, the cave of being map tooltip states “it is said that the deepest parts reach sinnoh” or something along those lines, so it is likely east of sinnoh because the cave of being is in the far west of unova
Older pokemon are in Unova, just not the main locations. One of the npcs in gen 8 also say they can swim to Kalos. Meaning Galar is swimming distance of Kalos. So honestly, I think the regions are in the same place as they are in real life.
And yet Game Freak has still not focused on landmasses south of the Equator. I get that fewer people live in that area and there's less land to work with, but there are a few notable areas that can be made into regions: parts of Brazil, Patagonia, South Africa, Australia and all of NZ.
The game regions are mostly europe and japan regions expanded into individual countries sizes and distinction. With that in mind no real world application is even possible. An interesting alternate universe though.
They could always edit it every generation. Not that hard, lol. Think similar to how Smash Ultimate's characters banner get updated with each new character.
Theory: I think the region that is attacked Kalos was a German pokemon region because 1. Galar wasn't confirmed that it attacked Kalos. 2. Germany and France had wars before 3. The more modern pokemon regions like for example Kalos and Galar are based on European counties and you can realized that they have an even number of the generation meanwhile the odd numbers are basically based on USA states. I know many people thinks the even numbers of the pokemon generation is non-American states which I might agree because I know there are many fans (including myself) wants an Indian pokemon region so if an Indian pokemon region happens, then i think the German pokemon region will be gen 12 or any even number that is more than 12. Also if anyone is curious and thinking "What should gen 9 be" i will say a region based on California
Yeah, I could defo agree with Kalos being somewhat under Galar. If you used the other version of the Kalos map, you could see that the bottom part of the Galar map has oceans, rivers, forests, and mountains that line up almost perfectly with the top right of the Kalos region.
Galar is canonically an island. The Crown Tundra show us that the southernmost area is a subtropical coast, just below the frozen tundra and a subarctic plain.
There’s also the Battle Frontier in Sinnoh, which is an island. I think that shares a border with Russia irl, and is based on those contested islands in the war between Russia and Japan that took place during IIRC the very early 20th century, so I would think Sinnoh is at the tip of Poke-Japan, and I would place the Shinjoh Ruins between some dead land between Johto and Sinnoh since Sunyshore on the east part of Sinnoh is directly connected to an ocean. That way, Johto and Sinnoh are still connected, but there’s enough space for Sunyshore’s ocean and what seems like Kanto’s mountain range, which could be where this dead land is. (A mountain range that traverses the northern part of both Kanto and Johto, but fades into a beach of some sort as Sinnoh gains topographical prominence. I also wouldn’t bother with Or/regions from the spinoff games. They’re in different worlds as far as I’m concerned.
I feel like any mention of real world places can be explained as a sort of localization. In universe, they are saying the equivalent to that place in their world, because if it was the in-universe name it wouldn't make sense.
I feel like it would make more sense that Alola is in between Kanto and Unova, similar to how Hawaii is in between Japan and America. It would give a good explanation for why Alola is such a big immigration hotspot for people from Kanto.
in black and white 2 on the town map it says that the cave of being leads to the sinnoh region in its deepest parts which should make them much closer together
First minute of the video: just cause it’s based on a real world location, doesn’t mean it’s in the same location *proceeds to locate every place based on real world place in the same location as real world
My head canon is that every region just replaces the real world place it is based on. Your reasoning for why that can’t work doesn’t make sense, since unova is based off of New York specifically, not the entire US
As for new possible regions, it would be nice if they had a Canada region, or Mexico region. They could also do the following region ideas: Russia, Australia, Africa, Arctic poles, China, Italy, etc.
Actually, I feel that Regions with Regional variants should be more likely to be further apart. The first 4 games are all have no regional variants as they all are roughly close together. Which itself might make up for one large region together. Since they all share the same pokemon variants. But certain species that are far from the region evolve differently due to a seperate gene pull. Because they have no way in breeding with the other variants and the two types of species branch off because they can’t breed with eachother. So I feel like the newer games are a lot more spaced part compared to the older games.
The Unove Orre argument holds no water as Unove is based on the City of New York and surrounding areas such more of the NY state and parts of New Jersey. But as you said Orre is Arizona.
I personally would like to see a region based on a South american or African country, since we've already seen regions based on countrys from other continents. But I think it would be cool a region based on Germany too
m.imgur.com/0igaeTu (modified from niknaks on deviantart) i think the pokemon world is jsut a fantastical version of our real world. This (sans galar so far) is the closesr depiction to what they wpuld would look like. Given how the games as locations just mirror irl ones in terms of geography and culture (albeit with alittle more fantasy and as bite sized locations) i think it's just the real world placements. People can use the argument of orientation all day but i dont think that adds up because maps arnt always orientatated where the top is facing north. And we never had a compass rose in game or anything so it's fair to say the maps we see are rotated in whatever way they chose for artistic liscense.
Sinnoh is north of kanto and johto. Cynthia meets you in the sinjoh ruins in heargold and soulsilver when arceus gives you an egg with either palkia, dialga, or giratina
Since the main character's mom in the alola games says in sun something like this "wow its already day here its the opposite in kanto" and vice versa for moon I think alola is on the opposite of the world
All that I got from this video is that there isn't much reason for the regions not to be located relative to their real world counterparts. Additionally; subjects like 'real world locations' being mentioned within pokemon media can be retconned, like Mewtwo appearing in New York City breifly in the anime would now probably be him appearing in Castelia, due to Unova replacing NYC geographically. (Which, like probably a good chunk of the comments state; Unova isn't just 'The United States of America' but New York and New Jersey. Meaning that Orre could very well be relative to Arizona, part of the same land mass just a distance away.) And another thread had someone complaining about Hoenn's orientation. Which... just doesn't matter? It's not like they have to look exactly like the place they're representing. Unova's also quite smushed compared to NY&NJ
There's also trainers, I believe on route 9(?) - the snowy one after Circhester :s - that say they swam from Kalos to Galar and how the regions are close enough to do that, or something like that lol. Also in Sun/Moon Sina says "It's so mysterious... to be talking about Mega Evolution here, in a region so far away from Kalos...", so I think you're spot on w how far away Kalos is from Alola. There are definitely a few other unnamed NPCs that mention travelling to and from regions, I know I've come across them but the information just goes in one ear and out the other. 😅
Fantastic video but I think the biggest problem with it is that alot of the maps are flipped versions of the inspiring area it might all be in the southern hemisphere.
I agree with your placement of the first 4 regions. But I always liked to think of Alola as being northeast of Kanto & east of Sinnoh as basically an extension of those tropical routes you visit in Sinnoh's postgame to the northeast of the region. And I picture Kalos, Unova, and Galar being somewhere on the same landmass as Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh, probably west of Johto. That way you don't go crazy with the islands. 6 mainland regions and 2 island regions just feels right to me somehow. Plus that way you could place most of the regions based on so called western countries literally to west, thus recognizing their real world locations without going for any hyperrealism.
Shouldn't Alola be in opposite side of the world? They reference constantly specially in the beginning how the time is opposite in Alola with dialog with me mom character. The reference is that they moved from Kanto but that doesn't mean it should near. Also the Alolan version and their dex entries talk about how they were accidentally or brought in intentionally. Never that they migrated from Kanto.
Since the Crown Tundra is south of Galar (which makes sense, since it's based on Scotland, north of England, with Galar being an upside-down UK), I'd argue that the whole Galar region should lie in the southern hemisphere. That would explain why its south is colder than the north.
I believe the Orre games happen alongside the Unova games. In Colosseum, all Pokémon are imported and the locals have said many times that there are no wild Pokémon in Orre. Then in XD and B2W2 wild Pokémon start popping up in this continent that were previously native to other regions.
in the real world, Hoenn island is literally south west. i like how Hoenn and Kalos are close each other if you see in a round globe. by the way, you need to update the map, please make another video. I think 1st & 2nd Pokemon ranger map were just like Kanto & Johto. then the 3rd was close to johto & sinnoh.
I think it's best to assume the regions would be located in relation to one another based on their real world counterparts. I've seen a great map of Japan in the Pokemon art style and the first 4 regions fit perfectly into it. Give it a look!
Does anyone really think that there is one person at Game Freak who actually thinks about this? I mean, they are just making these regions on their own. Why would they think about the whole world to begin with?
You've made this way more complicated than it had to be. This is an alternate version of Earth - things are broadly the same but some things are slightly different (such as the specific shape of the land). The first four regions are in whatever they call Japan, Unova is the new version of New York State - part of Northern America, along with Orre on the complete other side. Whether or not the United States has an equivalent or if they're all independent, we don't know (but because of Surge we can broadly assume an "America" exists in some form). The real weird ones are Kalos and Galar because broad shape-wise, they appear to be entire countries whereas all the others were regions within a country. This ends up with them both seeming surprisingly small and sparsely populated compared to Britain and France. With regards to Kalos however, there is a possibility that its only geographically NORTHERN France, and most of Southern France (as well as the border with Belgium and Germany) is now this new massive mountain range which may or may not be part of a massively extended Alps. Incidentally, if these are the mountains Volcanion lives, then they're near enough completely impassable. A similar thing might be happening with Galar with the mystery south of the map (if it even is the south when globally oriented).
Something you left out for Hoenn but brought up during Alola is how your character moved from a different region. In RSE your character actually came from Johto, with your father moving there first and you shortly afterwards. Now it isn't impossible Johto and Hoenn could be worlds apart, people take jobs overseas all the time, I feel like for a civilian job like that would further imply they're relatively close
I always thought hoen is based off of mexico because of the trumpet theme and the pokemon introduced in that game that have sombreros and maracas among other things 😅
Cool video but Unova is only New Jersey and New York and Orre is only Arizona and maybe the immediate surroundings of its border, so there's plenty of space between the two.
Unova isn't based on America as a country, iirc. i'm pretty sure it's based on New York State, which fits in with every other region being based on a state-like area. Orre and Unova could be on the same continent if you look at it this way.
Actually, funny story, I used to think that Kalos was based on the USA, I thought the Eiffel tower replacement gym was the empire state building lol. superlazerninja12 has a good point that Unova isn't the US, just new York area, I'm planning to make an American east coast fan region. but due to Unova I can't use it, so what I'm gonna do is either push Unova north to make space and have my own new York or just lower the region ad have it focus on Virginia and Flordia areas.
the 3 first regions and Alola are right I think, sinnoh is up north of kanto separated by a small landmass. Further east of Kanto, separated by the sea are located Galar. (and it’s extensions).and further south east is kalos, Unova is also located further east of Kalos. Furthermore, I know it is still not official but the extension of southern kalos is almost connected to the west of Unova by a wood covered landmass!
Kalos isn't connecting Galar by land, since the Crown Tundra DLC is south of Galar. I think Galar and Kalos are connected by Water. One NPC in Galar talked about swimming all the way from Kalos to route 9 in Galar (The route with the bodies of water). So that suggests Kalos is East of Galar, which makes sense, since Hulbury and Coumarine/Cyllage city could have been trade ports. It makes even more sense if you consider that Hulbury is in the East of Galar and the Lighthouse is the farthest point East.
But we do not know the full crown tundra map outside of what little we know from leaks. It is still possible that there could be more water on the south side, or that it connects to the north side of kalos
Serebii's map was included in ORAS so it's official, at least for the mega timeline. Unova is based on New York City and the surrounding area, (with the new starting area from BW2 being based on New Jersey) not the whole US, and gets nowhere close to overlapping with Orre.
It isn't official. It was an upside down version of it with no other context or explanation. As for Unova, while it is mostly NY there's still areas that resemble the south west and aren't anything like NY
@@PaPaSea yeah climate wise, but geography wise it's 100% nyc and surrounding areas the only part resembling the southwest is route 5 and the whole desert resort area which is just added bc it makes the game way cooler and they needed to put something besides endless city between castelia and nimbasa
Wanna know what else makes it's geography weird? It differs between games. Hoenn is shown to be both to the east and west of Sinnoh. What makes me so sure of this? One simple pokemon, Shellos. In ORAS, you can catch Shellos on routes, meaning they are at least now native to those areas. Omega Ruby makes Hoenn west of Sinnoh, whilst Alpha Saphire makes it east. Just to add more confusion to the flame.
I personally chose to believe that the Pokémon regions are just located on top of where they’re based on…Kano is Kanto, Johto is Kansani, Hoenn is Kyushu, Sinnoh is Hokkaido, Unova is New York City, Kalos is France, Alola is Hawaii, Galar is the UK, and Paldea is the Iberian Paninsula, and so on. Obviously there are some differences, but it’s worth noting that some of the real world references have been retconed to fit into the Pokémon universe, specifically changing “Indian elephant” to “copperaja” for Raichu in Legends Arceus
I feel that unova should be the most central region like how you've displayed it as it makes sense how the gym leaders were able to get to the region for the Pokemon World Tournament in driftveil, the most likely port being from Castelia City assuming that the leaders travelled there via ferry similar to the S.S Anne or Aqua
I feel like the theory about alola being close to kalos bc of the alolan forms also suggests that galar won't be super far away from every other region (not necessarily counting sinnoh, kalos, and alola bc there are no galarian forms of pokemon originally from those regions)
Unova isn't based on the whole US, its based on New York, so it doesn't really conflict with Orre being Arizona

I literally came to say this. It’s New York State specifically.
Bout to say the same
I was thinking the same thing
Yeah. Alola is also based on a US state but they’re obviously not conflicting.
Since Crown tundra came out, we now know that Galar is an island.
Well Galar is based on the UK

Naturally as the series moved forward they would distance themselves from the real world as it would raise questions about real-life events.
@Admiral Smoker Very much, how alternate history would have to be molded by the existence of Pokémon.
Yeah, I think Lt. Surge likely is a veteran from another interregional war (maybe the Korean War, that would explain why Kanto welcomed him with open arms lol) who decided to seek political asylum in Japan due to being a war criminal (he DID shock his enemies, that has to be against the Geneva convention or something.)
Now, he satiates his sadistic urges by hazing young children looking to take on the GYM challenge, having them perform humiliating rituals such as digging through garbage to reset a fucking switch like they’re in some kind of Japanese - er, Kantonian - game show....
I don’t think it’s the Gulf War only because wouldn’t Middle Eastern/desert people generally have access to ground-type Pokemon? Which are strong against electric? 🤔
Another option could be Yugoslavia, except Surge would have had to serve under NATO and not the United States directly.
And I like to think of regions more as states, so for example Kalos is only part of France, and Galar only part of the physical landmass where the UK is (Ireland is totally missing.)
So Unova could be the same, just the tri-state area, and not the entire United States. Like Sinnoh/Battle Frontier, Johto, Kanto/Sevii, and Hoenn make up at least a large part of Japan.
This was my thought train Gen 1 mentioned stuff like American(lt surge) and South America (in reference to mew)
This implied at the very least that Kanto (and thus JOhto ) were PART of poke earth Japan.
There are a lot of Japanese immigrants in Hawaii. It could explain the relation between Kanto and Alola.
@maltese 0217 aren't they on vacation from kanto?
Yeah, I don’t think Unova is the entire US, just the East Coast of it.
@@fatuusdottore It's actually only a small part of the East coast, basically based on New York City and a part of Northern New Jersey.
That's literally impossible because each region already specifies where North, South, East and West is. And Hoenn is flipped 90 degrees to its real world counterpart where as Galar is flipped 180 degrees.
So no they can't be placed like in the real world.
@Truthbearslight That still doesn't the fix the issue with the regions being flipped.

Portals tho
@@ryans.3852 wdym portals
@@KennyJamesRX8 The caves don't have to be connected *physically*, they could be connected with portals.
Another possibility is the Cave of Being description is referring to symbolic connection -- Like the Cave of Being being "connected" to the Sinnoh Legends somehow. That seems most likely actually.
I'm glad you brought the cave of being up that's really important
That's more implied to be a spiritual/historic connection. Not a literal connection to Sinnoh. Like, it's not physically connected to that region.
I used to grumble to myself about that for years.
there is an npc in sword/shield who mentions something about swimming between galar and kalos. cant remember who or where
i also encountered that npc.

one day technology will allow us to play a full on open world, all regions, all pokémon available, literally everything in a pokémon
gamefreak: haha, no
That's a game that I would love to play. Where you can start in any region and then you can choose what region you wanna go to next
Dlc per every region, new pokemon and old pokemon with the exception of Charizard
Pokemon MMORPG with full time combat instead of turn based
Starting on Kanto with all the original Pokemon and with every expansion they would add a new region and more pokemon
That map is used for pretty much every low-detail map in the game.
I wonder how the american revolution would've played out between Galar and Unova..
Pretty much the same. But with pokemon
You gotta make an updated version of this everytime a new Pokemon game comes out! Would like to see one with Scarlet and Violet, plus the DLC for Sword and Shield in the southern part of Galar!
Their was a swimmer in xy who said he sawm from hoenn
I've Always thought orre was the region that went to war with Kalos... Pokemon are scarce because they're all dead
Sh*t just went from 0 to 100 real fricking quick
I imagine the damage caused by that war would've been recovered already because it was 3,000 years ago. The population of pokemon would've recovered over that time. I think it more has to do with Orre just being really inhospitable
Maybe Orre was the one that supposedly had a war with Kanto? The one Surge, the AMERICAN, came from?
I think you should’ve flipped the map of Galar. The “clouded area” is Crown Tundra, and at the end of that area is an open ocean, which would be north of the UK in real life. Northern Kalos would be very close to Wyndon
"There is an event island that you can access through an event"
Ah yes, the floor here is made out of floor
One thing that could help see how regions are connected is being able to travel to a second region in a main game.
You know, the thing we've been begging for since 2003?
PelemusMcSoy that would make it much easier
If you look at the artwork for Johto's map, you can see what looks like a desert North of Ecruteak city and the Miltank farm. This could very well be part of Orre and would push Sinnoh further North and/or East.
Pretty sure that's a topographical map, which is indicating mountains, if I'm thinking of what you're describing.
You can see something similar at Mt. Coronet, which, well
There isn't a desert anywhere near there.
If I recall correctly, Alola is described to be "as far away from Kanto as you can get". They shouldn't be near each other.
I'd always thought Kanto was cold and Alola was Tropical, so they would be far away from each other.
This explains why theres the eastern towns in alola and ALSO hawwaii is a in the middle of america and japan irl so if unova is new york (the opposite coast) then alola is probably closer to kanto than unova
in your bedroom in Alola there is a globe and when you interact with it, it says that Alola and Kanto are on opposite sides of the world
@@jefferybezos4530 real world hawwaii and japan are technically on opposite sides of the world but are close because the world is a globe
This would be cool, but I'd rather see them remake BW2 than BW, as the sequels were better games, and BW2 already has some pokemon from gens 1-4.
@@jarredallen3228 or they remake both games, they both have exclusive stuff that separates them from one to another and they can do a case in which if BW2 remake recognizes a BW save file of the same system, there's a special episode that connects the two games
I think they definitly WILL include Pikachu, Eevee and their favorite non-dragon type dragon but not much of the rest of gen 1-4 pokemon
It could also be spherically opposite, as a reference to "digging to China" from the US.
That would be really cool but GF would probably screw it by having more ground, fire, rock and steel types on those regions lmao
We need a Yakkos world Pokémon version
The game regions are mostly europe and japan regions expanded into individual countries sizes and distinction. With that in mind no real world application is even possible. An interesting alternate universe though.
Misty also talks about Paris in the series
I didn't talk about the anime in this since the anime geography is very different from the main series games geography
Maybe Game Freak never revealed the world map because the region would be limited
Make sense
They could always edit it every generation. Not that hard, lol. Think similar to how Smash Ultimate's characters banner get updated with each new character.
@@LuckyOwI777 it's different. It's like adding new country to the world map.
It didn't make sense.
Theory: I think the region that is attacked Kalos was a German pokemon region because
1. Galar wasn't confirmed that it attacked Kalos.
2. Germany and France had wars before
Man gonna be in shambles when Gen 9 is Mexico
Man you really need to update this cause kalos is connected to paldea and the crown tundra in behind the clouds of the Galar
The Crown Tundra show us that the southernmost area is a subtropical coast, just below the frozen tundra and a subarctic plain.
snowpoint city having a proper dock indicates that it's at sea level
Anchor Point is the working title of Hawkeye's Disney+ Show! Would you move your car for Jeremy Renner?
I feel like any mention of real world places can be explained as a sort of localization. In universe, they are saying the equivalent to that place in their world, because if it was the in-universe name it wouldn't make sense.
The new Scarlet and Violet region, Paldea, is inspired of spain, so it would be south of Kalos. Also Orre isnt cannon
First minute of the video: just cause it’s based on a real world location, doesn’t mean it’s in the same location
*proceeds to locate every place based on real world place in the same location as real world
My head canon is that every region just replaces the real world place it is based on. Your reasoning for why that can’t work doesn’t make sense, since unova is based off of New York specifically, not the entire US
The crown tundra just throws your Kalos theory out the window
As for new possible regions, it would be nice if they had a Canada region, or Mexico region. They could also do the following region ideas: Russia, Australia, Africa, Arctic poles, China, Italy, etc.

I know the anime isn’t the best source of reference, but professor Oak did say Sinnoh is north of Kanto.
Why is no one talking about the globes in Gen5 Poké Centers that look exactly like earth?
I think my Kalos is east of Galar because of Hulbury an Cyllage city both being ports of supplies maybe during the war🤷🏿

The Unove Orre argument holds no water as Unove is based on the City of New York and surrounding areas such more of the NY state and parts of New Jersey. But as you said Orre is Arizona.

m.imgur.com/0igaeTu (modified from niknaks on deviantart) i think the pokemon world is jsut a fantastical version of our real world.
In xy there is this swimmer in azure bay that swam from Hoenn to Kalos that might have something to do with them being near each other
Since the main character's mom in the alola games says in sun something like this "wow its already day here its the opposite in kanto" and vice versa for moon I think alola is on the opposite of the world
All that I got from this video is that there isn't much reason for the regions not to be located relative to their real world counterparts.
Meaning that Orre could very well be relative to Arizona, part of the same land mass just a distance away.)
And another thread had someone complaining about Hoenn's orientation. Which... just doesn't matter? It's not like they have to look exactly like the place they're representing. Unova's also quite smushed compared to NY&NJ
Idk if this was leaked at the time of making the video but south of the clouds in galar is the crowned tundra
That sucks, but makes sense
I just hope theirs more clouds underneath the crown tundra lol. So we can connect Galar to Kalos
ShockingRed Blaines just made a video talking about how that could be a possibility. I’d check it out it’s pretty interesting but very unlikely.
Unova is based off of new york
There's a cave/tunnel in Unova that has flavor text that states that it "is said to connect to Sinnoh"
Technically Galar, Kalos and Paldea are neighbors.
That's literally only for Grimer, and maybe one other species, lol. Not every single Alolan variation.
I would have thought kalos was connected south of galar but the DLC changed that now☹
Since the Crown Tundra is south of Galar (which makes sense, since it's based on Scotland, north of England, with Galar being an upside-down UK), I'd argue that the whole Galar region should lie in the southern hemisphere. That would explain why its south is colder than the north.
I think that the regions are where they are in the real world because there isn’t really that much contradiction

There's a NPC in BW2 that mentions a cave connecting Unova to Sinnoh
Get ready to add Paldeo next to kalos and beneath Galar.
This channel is actually so underrated. One of the best poketubers on this platform.
I suddenly became very nostalgic of XD. It's one of those times I wish I had infinite time to replay old games

Someone needs to make a Pokémon Map of the real world
I feel like the theory about alola being close to kalos bc of the alolan forms also suggests that galar won't be super far away from every other region (not necessarily counting sinnoh, kalos, and alola bc there are no galarian forms of pokemon originally from those regions)
