Nice video idea. I know that a lot of people hate having any sort of politics or economics in video games, but it can sometimes be fun to analyze these concepts. Peaceful and moral individuals like Ash, May and Dawn can go to whatever region they want without any issues. You can buy and sell many things freely, including DRUGS for your Pokemon! Pokeballs are not made in every region. The Pokeball factory was in Kalos and is part of the X and Y story. Pokedollars are literally just Yen in the Japanese version. It even uses the proper kanji as well. The only games in Japanese to use the play symbol are Colloseum and XD weirdly enough
I always like to assume there is some kind of pokemon trainer economy with their own internationally agreed upon currency which is not connected at all or in a very limited way to their regular currency.
An interesting and related topic of discussion would be the real life economy that exists because of Pokémon games. The value of any given Pokémon. For example what’s the perceived worth of a Mew? What about a shiny Mew? What was the impact on their value of Deoxys becoming obtainable in ORAS and Keldeo being obtainable in the Crown Tundra? Is a shiny common Pokémon worth more than a legendary? Is it worth more than a mythical?
I always assumed the pokedollar was a form of currency that's used in all pokemon league affiliated organisations, and because everyone uses pokemon they're money is basically the defacto for normal stores to use since your probably getting your power from a pokemon ran powerplant, they arnt in charge of the regions they definetly have they're own rulers but like do they tho
Honestly I like this analysis much more than when game theory spent 15 mins continuously explaining that the 100 poke dollars is equivalent to 100 yen, or 1 usd
Japan had a vision of the future of non-stop population growth and an economy rebounding, engery efficiency, nature and land bridges connecting skyscrapers. The idea of engery becoming free and almost limitless, the computer back then and today leads one to a poke'future.
I don't think shipping costs would be very much between regions no matter the distance. Pokemon with Teleport make it pointless. Using the mechanic as shown possible in Pokemon Coliseum at Mt. Battle (or what the show implies of there not being limits), just use a few Abra to teleport from the region where its made to the region where it will be distributed, at least to the major city for distribution in that region, then go back. In fact, with free transportation methods using Pokemon (flying in most games, Poke Ride in Alola, Corviknight taxis in Galar), even having to go back without teleporting would be fine. Then even with normal game mechanics, just have the delivery person avoid Pokemon centers everywhere but their delivery location and have different workers for each region. Like instead of them delivering everywhere, each specific worker only goes back and forth to one region, just have maybe a few different workers doing it to make it faster. Granted, game mechanics have been shown even in game to not be the only way things work in world, with flying Pokemon being shown capable of flying places not possible for players, so its hard to say what restrictions there even are for using Teleport. Which in itself does bring up the question of why more criminals don't use Abra. Just catch one, rob a place, teleport away. Build an organization by breeding them. Imagine if Giovanni had tried that, just grabbing the Silph Scope and teleporting back to the Rocket Hideout instead of struggling to grab it until you stopped him.
For the government in the pokemon world, I actually think it was explained to be the champion. I honestly believe that though. For the first 6 generations it’d make sense considering you don’t actually take the position from them. If you beat lance, lance is still at the pokemon league. You become one of the champions in the hall of fame but never actually take the title of reigning champion. For Alola, it’s possible that since they only just got an elite four and champion, that they have a different system of government. I personally think that the island kahunas collectively govern the region. For Galar, the league is seen as more of a sport and so I’d assume that while you’re champion in title, Leon is still in power since you wouldn’t be old enough. For Kanto I’m not sure. It’s already odd that Blue took the previous champions title and yet you can’t take his place. I’d assume it’d be the same as in gold and silver though. Lance would probably be in power as the final member of the elite four but Red would hold the title.
Honestly when looking at the Pokémon government I feel more like we only see the military structure in the games. Gym leaders are suppose to be the strongest line of defense for the settlement they live in acting as both the trump card and regional commanders of the troops. Elite 4 and champion are the strongest military assets and act as the deterrent for other nations and segments of the country from rebelling. For what I have seen you have a draft like program where younger children are tasked to travel and train with a group of pokemon. The goal is to learn from the gym leaders how to handle threats or both different levels and types. If a person completes said training then they have the chance to prove their worth against the elite earning their own lace amongst them. Looking at context clues given in the games most people to not complete the training during the time frame of the "draft years" and act more as a reserve force occasionally practicing trying to maintain the skills of their pokemon. Most find work in either special corps, or outside of the military structure in the private sector. We just play as the lucky kid to be an arguably above average starter pokemon with enough chances for our team to develop quickly enough to not be aged out.
9:35 there is an error, well assuming a lava cookie is 200 In it's native region, 175 is not higher that 200 which another error is said here the cost is 100. Figure I'd point that out since little things bug me, but it's ok to make errors
@@PaPaSea yeah it's just really cool how Game Freak decided to release a new government official a few days after you released this video. Great job btw!
I don’t have any solid proof but I personally think the Pokémon world has one central government that goes over the whole world and that’s why every region has a Pokémon league aside from Alola which is a very small region and even they started to develop a Pokémon league. So the government hires Pokémon gym leaders and elite four members and takes a cut of whatever they get from Pokémon battles (since the loser always pays the winner) it would work well since gym leaders can be assumed to win far more battles than they lose and even when they lose it’s mostly to someone they beat before and this fact is even stronger with the elite four. It also explains why the high level gym leaders who presumably win more battles have larger and more complex gyms since they get more money to make their gym and hire people to fight the trained as well. This explains how most trainers are children who don’t lose much money when being beat or adults who have a separate job since the only people who make any real money from battles are the gym leaders and elite four. The champion is probably just mainly a game thing to motivate people to attempt the league therefore losing gym battles but also being the champion of any region pretty much opens you up to almost any battle since pretty much anyone would want to battle the champion of a region. This also helps with military efforts since the government would have already hired the strongest trainers in all the regions as well as having a ton of other trainers in the regions being trained by the gym leaders and elite four that really want to become champion of their region essentially making them pretty loyal to the government that runs the whole thing.
7:19 the Zimbabwe dollar would be super strong if one Zimbabwe dollar was worth $2360.90, 100 Zimbabwe dollars could buy you a decent American house in most states
But there is a hint to some higher power. In sword and shield... you meet 2 characters that are of royal blood and make you aware of it, it wouldn't surprise me if there is a major government for all the regions, but as the games are about catching pokemon and becoming a champion. There is no real reason to bring in any governing bodies into the pokemon games. I mean its implied that gyms and their leaders are selected which means some governing group must approve them too. Maybe not a countries governing body in that case. But if you are aware of how sports teams are formed for what ever sport you like, you can sort of imagine how gym leaders are selected and even what towns/cities get one.
00:01:38 They use the same currency beacuse they're the SAME COUNTRY. A "Region" is not a "country", A "Region" is a SUBSECTION "country". That would also easily explain why the full Pokedex is called the "NATIONAL Pokedex".
A region Is many things. It can be a subsection of a country (say, Lazium in Italy), or it can be an agglomeration of multiple countries (say, Turkestan). It can also be equivalent to a country, if the country closely follows a historical region. A region can, again, be many things. Continents are regions, which have their own regions, countries, which have their own regions, provinces, which have their own regions, so on, so forth.
@@ummelofilo9642 everything you said is true, but in the specific context of the Pokemon games it seems clear to me (or at-least, most likely) that a "Region" is a subsection of a country, because of these facts: Each Region contains only a small number of cities and towns; All Regions have the same currency and (seemingly) the same language; The full Pokedex is called the "National Pokedex".

In a video about pokemon economy, I didn't expect to hear the word "cookie" so much
Pokedollars are literally just Yen in the Japanese version. It even uses the proper kanji as well. The only games in Japanese to use the play symbol are Colloseum and XD weirdly enough
I always like to assume there is some kind of pokemon trainer economy with their own internationally agreed upon currency which is not connected at all or in a very limited way to their regular currency.
Nice video 🎥💯
An interesting and related topic of discussion would be the real life economy that exists because of Pokémon games. The value of any given Pokémon. For example what’s the perceived worth of a Mew? What about a shiny Mew? What was the impact on their value of Deoxys becoming obtainable in ORAS and Keldeo being obtainable in the Crown Tundra? Is a shiny common Pokémon worth more than a legendary? Is it worth more than a mythical?
Would be interesting applying this reasoning to the Orre region
I always assumed the pokedollar was a form of currency that's used in all pokemon league affiliated organisations, and because everyone uses pokemon they're money is basically the defacto for normal stores to use since your probably getting your power from a pokemon ran powerplant, they arnt in charge of the regions they definetly have they're own rulers but like do they tho
I like to think that each gym for regular humans take years to complete and that the protagonist is just a super human
Thank you i have a economy exam tomorrow
Me after watching the whole video: .... Dafaq I'm watching :|
I saw your video and i completely understand nothing but the video was fun
4:23 YO IM A FRKN SNEASEL!!! HELL YEAHHHH! 😂😂🤘🤘
I would take a guess that Judges exist due to the fact that in Black/White they do have Lawyers in Castelia City
great video, too bad almost nobody watched it
you watched it and you aren't nobody
Man this was so cool great video! Also everyone...LIKE UP THIS VIDEO!!
So what's the weird part? You just sat there and explained why things made sense, and not being weird at all? I am confused, lol.
Pokebucks are completely deflated in comparison to the USD if you have 345,000 Pokedollars, it would be around 1100 USD.
In real world economy potions and herbs won't compete because fresh water does the same.
Opelucid City and now Freezington have mayors
Yeah I forgot about Drayden, and this video was made before much was known about the crown tundra
@@PaPaSea yeah it's just really cool how Game Freak decided to release a new government official a few days after you released this video. Great job btw!
@@kyriakou8098 I thought the same thing the second I played it and saw him introduce himself as the mayor

UGLY is evolving!
Actually court cases are decided by pokemon contests
Team inflation should really be a thing
The disrespect on Wingull/Pelipper is not appreciated
my current fire red character has 6 pickup meouths, and l spent so long grinding for nuggets, pp ups, and rare candy, l found a shiny, and the 2 level 14 meouths are now level 30+ (able to evolve) and l have over 100 rare candys. it took a long time, but l royaly messed up the Economy in that timeline, with all the nuggets l found and sold.
And yes, l wouldn't heal until all 6 were out of moves, and yes, they all got payday, with max pp thanks to the pp ups they found.
The Pokedollar sign looks almost exactly like a Philippine peso or ₱
