"I want to live in this winter! Which....I know I kinda do...." *shows cars stuck in snow and then shows Frozen* "But this one looks nicer!" I dunno but that part always makes me giggle.
Frozen's main weakness is that it's over-exposed; too much of anything dulls the sensation of it, no matter how well-done. While it has other weaknesses, it still is a very meaningful movie on account of it keeping up with more modern sensibilities while also referencing what has become stereotypical when it comes to fairy tale and princess movies. All things considered, it's a very progressive movie about princesses. The animation is gorgeous, the writing has conflicts, deep emotional connections, consistent character developments and proper twists. And finally, most of the songs are incredibly catchy. What exactly did the disgruntled want from it? Tangled on ice?
+rigren0121 Its true Frozen is everywhere right now and it is over-hyped, but its still a fun and creative movie that is smart. We just need to let the hype die down and Judging form how well the Star Wars movie is doing, I think the hype will die down soon.
That's the power of the trend cycle. This is what I've been seeing through 3 years of Internet hell. Frozen becomes a hit People begin to hate it. Fnaf becomes a hit (btw I love these so please keep hate comments to yourself) People thank Fnaf for gathering people away from frozen Fnaf gets hated. Undertale becomes a hit. People thank Undertale for getting people away from Fnaf Undertale is already starting to develop hate... And something else will replace it... And it'll repeat over and over and over like a hamster in a wheel.
Frozen haters: It's annoying how much they're milking Frozen. Yeah, because Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King never got that treatment. Seriously can you imagine how those films would be received if TH-cam was around back then? People would be sick of Hakuna Matata in weeks.
+TheGoldenAge2 You're not wrong, but many of my childhood friends were into Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin as much as The Lion King. It just makes me laugh when people act like Disney capitalising on the success of a film, even if it gets overhyped to death, is a new thing.
+Juan Ibarra I myself would agree that Dragon movies were better. But that's subjective, ok? I just like that type of movie better. To be more on point, comic characters from the dragons aren't all over the place, and I also can't remember a character that were there just for comic reasons. Olaf, however, pretty much has only one purpose.
I know right? I admit I am a huge fangirl with things that tend to be popular... But not because they're popular... Because in my opinion they're so amazing and unique!
I am not a big fan of this movie, but I still respect Doug's opinion, just wish that the rabid Frozen haters in the comments would actually respect that too.
Jacob Smith Also, I hate to put salt on an open wound, but people completely forgot that back in late 2013, when Frozen was fresh and new in theatres, along with Saving Mr. Banks, both movies were considered to be Disney's major improvements in 2013 after they almost embarrassed themselves during the summer with Planes (a cheap Cars Spinoff) and The Lone Ranger (a box office bomb). The only exception is Pixar's Monsters University This is kinda in the same vains to what Inside Out brought Pixar back to their roots after their downfall with Cars 2.
Personally I feel like it has unrealized potential. The first part of the movie was good, but the pacing started to get weird after Anna and Elsa's confrontation. I also don't particularly care for the snowman, and feel that time could have been better taken up, but he was still alright.
Bethany Ashley I agree, especially after the confrontation. I wish Anna had more of a character arc, given that she gets her heart frozen at that point. The "act of love thawing a frozen heart" metaphor isn't as strong as it could have been since both Anna and Elsa still clearly care for each other. Some lingering resentment between the two would have been interesting to explore before the climax. I guess Disney didn't want to risk either of them being too unlikable though.
+SirThinks2Much Elsa was originally going to be the villain, I think it was actually while writing Let it Go that they decided she should be more of a well intentional antagonist turned protagonist, with some personal struggles to deal with.
I just saw Frozen, mainly to see what all the hype was. I gotta say, I can kinda see why pretty much everyone loved it. I'm not the biggest fan of it, but at the same time, I'm not saying it's bad either. It's a great movie. Amazing visuals, good story, beautiful singing voices (minus the douchebag Hans)
I find Frozen to be an okay film, nothing more or less. It definitely isn't one of Disney's worst, but at the same time, it is nowhere near Disney's best either.
+MoonlitLycan I can't say I agree. This is definitely one of my favorite Disney animated films, easily in the top 5, though I'm not sure I'd put it in the top 3.
+MoonlitLycan I agree. Why on earth is a movie with such an uninspired, blah story so popular? And yet, you see it freakin' everywhere. It's like the Boba Fett of the Disney universe.
Spots #1 and #2 would be a toss up between The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. #3 I think would go to Frozen, with #4 being Atlantis and #5 being Aladdin.
+AT Productions Not all haters are like that. I dislike the movie to a far extent, but I do not address my hate when it is unneeded, only when people are talking about how the movie is either good or bad. Also, if people wouldn't address the haters, maybe they'll eventually just shut up and get used to the hype it has gained because they see their complaints do nothing to it.
This movie has everything I like about Disney: The beautiful animation, the catchy music, the likeable characters, the story, the emotions, the moral messages, the humor, and the happy ending.
Frozen was honestly one of the best experiences I have ever had in a movie theatre. I remember seeing it the 2nd day after it opened, way before all the crazy hype began, and it was truly a great experience. Not only was the movie great, but *everyone* in the audience, including the kids, were respectful and not obnoxiously loud like during most animated films. Everyone was laughing, enjoying the music, gasping at the "twists" and just having a great time together, and when it was over, both parents and their kids were so enthusiastic about what the saw. There was such a good, contagious energy in that theatre that left me with such a wonderful impression. It reminded me of the kind of experience that Walt Disney himself strived for, where everyone in the family can find something to enjoy, and it really brought back memories of the great Disney movies from the past. I find it truly disheartening that Frozen has a reputation for being terrible and overrated nowadays, because it really is a great movie with a heart, and the reaction that it got that night shows how people viewed it before the internet tainted it with the overhype and negativity. The way the critic enthusiastically talked about Frozen near the end of the video really reminded me of that happy experience.
***** I agree with everything except you accusing people of hating Frozen just because it's popular because that's not why they hate it. They hate it because it's a shit film and the fact that its obsessed fans think it's on the same level as other Disney films like The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin, Snow White, The Black Cauldron, Sleeping Beauty, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast and all those others makes me laugh. And just because Frozen's a popular film that doesn't mean it's a good film. And that "They only hate it because it's popular and they think hating it makes them cool or smart" is bullshit and that's the kind of logic obsessed Frozen fans use to defend it. You're making yourself look like a fangirl.
While I loved Frozen too and enjoy many of these movies of Disney's new "Revival Age" I do have one big problem with them and its not CGI! the villains All of them are last minute reveals and while those do work I am getting tired of it, because we only see them as villains for at least 10 to 30 min they don't feel as dangerous or funny in comparison to say Scar or Maleficent. Almost all the time is spent with the good-guys or showing the bad guys as good guys and one of the magic's of disney was that it always gave time to explore every character for who they were. One of my favourite parts of any disney film was always the villain and I was always told playing a disney villain was the best part for any actor. With the new wave of villains I feel like they are having as much fun as any other actor in the recording booth, I just want to see disney have fun with their villains like they used to.
The thing is that Disney wants to move towards telling more complex stories. They want to create compelling protagonists. Think about a movie like Sleeping Beauty. You remember Maleficent, because she's a badass villain, but Aurora and the prince have all the personality of tofu. Same with Snow White. The Evil Queen is deliciously evil, but Snow White herself is pretty bland. With this new crop, you remember the heroes, and that's why they work so well. It makes the story more compelling when the hero is more relatable. Real villains don't cast spooky green magic spells and swirl their capes around. They're liars and manipulators and look like everyone else.
Kevin Murphy Also, I hate to put salt on an open wound, but people completely forgot that back in late 2013, when Frozen was fresh and new in theatres, along with Saving Mr.
No, real villains with POWER are often incredibly flamboyant and arrogant. You've never seen dictators or drug dealers or any REAL bad people? You're thinking of serial killers and con artists. The former must hide what they do or NO ONE would accept them and they'd be put in prison or to death; the latter are merely trying to bilk their victims out of money or other valuables. When you get to the level of the power-mongering 'villains' of real life, there you find the Chairman Maos, the Kim Jung Uns, the General Pinochets, the Saddam Husseins and so forth. They are just outright, unambiguously horrible people.
Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog, and Mother Gothel from Tangled are the only Villains in the revival era that do serve their purpose as villains. However, they both do have major drawbacks that prevent them from being on par with the baddies from the past whether it's taking over New Orleans, or being a same version as the Evil Stepmother from Cinderella/Frollo from Hunchback, and like you said before, showcasing their villainous aspects in the last minute.
I didn’t like the movie the second time around. But I do love the music. But I hate Hans as a villain. It didn’t make sense. When Hans was underneath the boat after he first meet Anna he smile. It was the sort of smile you get when you watch cute animal videos, but then at the end he’s evil for some reason
Alexandra McGinnis, In my opinion Hans wasn't a villain at the beginning. He is not going to kill anybody, he just wanted to marry a princess to become more than the thirteen prince who is destined to forever remain in the shadow of his brothers.
@@catherineswan7674 Damn, that deep. I wish the film decided to push that more than the whole evil smirk. The whole fireplace scene kind of came out of no-where
@@alexandramcginnis8872 I have a thought about fireplace scene. Hans realized that he couldn't save Anna because he didn't love her. So he decided to force her death to save her from suffering.
Ena Venturo The internet hates this movie because it was everywhere. Honestly, that's extremely unfair. I don't care what they say anyway, I'm still gonna love this movie. It's among my favorite Disney movies of all time.
The thing that bugs me is the fact that the haters of this movie think the fact that it’s really popular is a legitimate criticism and reason to not like the movie, which is complete bullshit! You can’t hold popularity against a movie like it’s a problem with the movie itself. You can’t hate a movie for reasons that don’t have anything to do with the actual movie. You shouldn’t hate a movie for reasons outside of it’s control
I never saw the movie when it came out, nor did I see the sequel. But, in 2020, in quarantine, I gave it a shot. I think since everything around this movie died down, I had a much easier time enjoying the movie rather than thinking about all the hype that was shoved in my face. I still have not seen the sequel or the little short "Frozen Fever" or the Olaf spin offs, but I will say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to and I think that's because I let it breathe rather than seeing it just for the sake of hype.
Frozen was a pretty good movie. It wasnt the best movie of all time, but I'll be damned if I aint rewatching it over and over every Christmas. Anna legit is my favorite part about this movie. I love her character arc and how relatable it is to people like me who are almost too trusting and open to others.
Honestly when I watch other disney movies, I enjoy them and notice more flaws with each new viewing, but with Frozen, I am in tears from just the opening visuals. Everyone has their own tastes, but there is nothing about Frozen that I do not love and find perfect.
This was the *greatest* Disney film to come out in _years_. _Frozen_ is a legitimately Great film and I've lost count how many times I've watched it because it never gets old.
+Xehanort10 Sorry, but it kinda is. People can cry about the hype and the songs and the merchandise till they're blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is that it's actually a good film. I know it's hard for people in this day and age to hear but it's true. The fact that it's had numerous theatrical releases speaks for that kinda
+TheGoldenAge It's my opinion and also technically a fact. Bad movies don't get the amount of praise, continuous theatrical releases, musicals, merchandising years after its release, etc. I understand a whole bunch of good movies also don't get the same treatment, but the fact that it IS getting the treatment should be an obvious testament of it's quality. It doesn't mean it's a perfect movie, but it definitely does mean that it's not a bad one. That is a fact.
I've heard a lot of people say that they saw the last minute villain coming a mile away, but I don't know. I saw this movie in the theatre twice, and both times, when the "expected twist" was revealed, the entire audience gasped in disbelief. I even heard someone say, "What?! No!"
I still love Frozen with all my heart, but I think strangely I found the only thing I really loved about it was the characters and the visuals. The music was okay and overdone. But the characters really touched my heart. I'll be completely honest. I didn't care much for it when I saw it the first time in cinemas... But when I saw it a second time I realised just how much I looked over. I didn't realise how relatable and amazing the characters were. Songs from tangled were a lot better. Zootopia had a way better story. Wreck-it Ralph had much more creative worlds. But frozen for me was the characters.
A lot of people forget that this movie is set in summer. Seriously, when I was talking to some friends one mentioned how “Frozen is an iconic Christmas movie” when I mentioned that it was in summer, everyone went silent for a minute or two. I momentarily broke my friends, yay!
I don't think this movie is overrated at all, I think it's legitimately one of Disney's best! I also think this is one of the few cases where I approve of the name-change, this barely has anything to do with The Snow Queen, but it's still inspired by it.
The perfect way of expressing my thoughts on the Frozen movies is this laughably bad line from Attack of The Clones. "I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating and it gets everywhere."
Now, just to let this off my chest, I need to make a rant here: Okay, I understand why you don't like the film and you don't really like how it's being everywhere, but please, if you want pepole to shut up about this movie, here's a good idea; why don't YOU also shut up as well? I mean, I've seen comments constantly comparing other Disney movies to this all just because your favorite disney movie is not as praised as this movie, which is honestly kinda immature. It's not Frozen's fault that it overshadowed your favorite Disney movie, it just HAPPEND that the movie overtook Toy Story 3 as the highest grossing animated feature of all time, just because your favorite disney movie is your favorite doesn't mean everyone should agree with you. Another thing I hate about the Frozen hate is that how hypocrisy comes out, like, you want pepole to shut up about Frozen, but YOU unessasarly bring it up in other animated features that look amazing by saying "I HOPE THIS WILL MAKE PEPOLE FORGET ABOUT FROZEN" Jezuz Almighty Krust *Facepalm* Do I even need to explain how utterly byeond stupid that logic is? THAT'S THE SAME AS TALKING ABOUT A FAMOUS MOVIE LIKE THIS. Is it really that hard for you to talk about other animated features without bringing up Frozen in a negative way? I mean, I agree that Frozen isn't the best animated feature, I prefer HTTYD2, Kung Fu Panda 2, Peanuts, Big Hero 6 and Inside Out over Frozen, but that leads to another stupid thing, you think liking a movie over Frozen makes you look 'cool' and 'diffrent' when really, it doesn't. Everyone is gonna prefer this film over that film and vice versa, it's a normal thing to prefer things over another, but why is it that you take pride on prefering Frozen over every fu*king movie out there? I mean there are WORSE movies than Frozen for that matter no matter how much you hate it. I mean, if I see ONE person say that this movie is worse than Foodfight or Where The Dead Go To Die, I lose all faith in humanity and nothing will change that. All Im saying is; If you don't like Frozen, that's fine, but stop taking so much pride in it or just acting like its the worst thing humanity ever made, because it's not even close. And like I said, if you want Frozen to stop being discussed so much, you should too.
+Alex Ramirez I hate Frozen not because of the reasons you addressed in this comment, but because of more analytical reasons, such as the flaw of having Anna just be "locked" (quotations because she could've left any time on her own) inside the castle with Elsa even though she would've been fine, or how there's no explanation of how the kingdom was taken care of before the correlation. Anyways, that's not the point I'm trying to come across -- the point is, I am not like most of the Frozen haters nowadays. Yes, I hated how the music was played all the time and complained about it when it was HUGE, but now I only address my feelings when people are actually talking about how the film is either good or bad. However, this comes to show that not all Frozen haters hate the film because it overshadows their favorite film by Disney, as I saw this comment was mainly portraying them as.
I'll just quote my review of this movie that I posted on TV Tropes (with some thoughts added; damn word count limit): "I'll be really honest: I didn't see Frozen until May 2014 when it was out of theaters, and I watched it On Demand. And honestly, after hearing all the hype about it, seeing the movie... I was very underwhelmed, to say the least. The world-building in this movie is nonexistent. Elsa's powers are never explained beyond the fact that she was born with them. Yeah, that's it. There is no background, nothing about how common being born with ice powers is in this world, nothing about how people with ice powers are viewed, nothing at all. For that matter, we are given little information about the rock trolls, either, beyond the fact that they can erase memories (which makes their “adoption” of Kristoff even creepier). Even how the kingdom was run could have been explained better (such as who was in charge of the kingdom before Elsa came of age, and how Anna was could leave a stranger in charge of it in her absence). I didn’t care for the characters at all, either. Anna was not very interesting; she seems like just a stock “awkward” girl, and not much else to her than that. Even making her angrier with her sister for shutting her out all those years might have given her more depth (and fixed some of this movie’s morality problems; more on that later). Elsa, despite her Ear Worm of a power anthem, is an ultimately weak and barely realized character, not to mention that she seems far too easily forgiven for her actions at the end. That 'Let It Go' sounded like a triumphant power anthem is a poor excuse for rewriting a potentially great redeemed villain character, especially considering the rewritten Elsa is, to put it nicely, a pathetic, whiny, moping sad sack who gets everything solved for her. Hans was a character with the potential to be interesting and even somewhat complex, but who was ultimately screwed over by being shoehorned into a Designated Villain role (which, given everything Elsa had done up to that point, seemed just like an Anvilicious attempt to put sympathy back on her). Olaf was completely pointless (so pointless he's not even worth mentioning further), and Kristoff was just a second love interest, and not a very good one, considering his condescension toward Anna. And actually, his presence raises another question; if this movie was trying to avoid the "marrying a man you just met"’ cliché, why give Anna a second love interest at all? Hans could have just not been shoehorned into the villain role, and Anna could have had a female traveling companion (perhaps the robber girl, an actual character from The Snow Queen), and the plot could have stayed relatively the same, minus the infamous ‘Fixer Upper’ song, which brings me to… There were far too many pointless songs in this movie. In a musical, songs are meant to move the story along, and most Disney musicals seem to do that fairly well. While I didn’t personally care for the songs in this movie, most of them do move the story, but Olaf’s summer song and ‘Fixer Upper’ do little but stop the movie for 2-3 minutes (not to mention that the latter song happens as the main character is dying; not the best time). The animation was nice and colorful, but that’s far from saving this movie. I know this movie has tons of fans, but I’m just not one of them." TL; DR- This movie is a colorful mess of lazy writing, unrealized characters, and pointless songs. Please remember to spell-check your hate comments.
***** Yeah, and I guess that's kind of my point. It's not even a guaranteed money-maker, since interest has died down (I'd love to see a Big Hero 6 sequel, to learn more about the characters).
Here are my main points for not liking this movie. - The book it's based on centers around a magic mirror. People who looked in the mirror saw their soul, their heart, and their character exposed to the world. The movie has NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT INDESCRIBABLY INTERESTING CONCEPT!! GOTS TO SELL THEM TOYS! - Elsa is nothing but a missed opportunity. They could've given us a backstory for her powers. They could've had her come to grips with her abilities in another way: The way her song is phrased made me think she was becoming a villain, talking about herself being free and not caring anymore. Her self-imposed freedom would've made her a sort of bizarro-Spider-Man, all of the power with none of the responsibility. But no, they made her an insecure irresponsible cardboard cut-out for little girls to picture themselves as. Oh, and because she doesn't get a love interest, SHE MUST BE A LESBIAN, RIGHT?!! - Everyone praises this movie for explicitly saying you can't marry a man you just met. 2 problems with that. 1: Enchanted already did that plot point, much better might I add. 2: I don't recall Tiana, Rapunzel, Pocahontas, Mulan, Jasmine, Leia, or Belle marrying a man they just met. - Trolls are pointless and do nothing but stop the movie for their toilet humor. In short, go watch Inside Out or Big Hero 6 instead of this overrated trash.
Your complaints about the plot sound very nitpicky. It's not woven like your finest quilt, but *"nothing about how common being born with ice powers is in this world, nothing about how people with ice powers are viewed"?* It may not be explained, but it should seem obvious to just about anyone that these questions don't really need answers. The only thing that raises any sort of question is who was ruling arandel before elsa, which can be explained, but isn't. As for the rock trolls, did anyone really give a shit about their life story? They're Kristoff's family and they do magic shit. That's all we need. It just seems like you're nitpicking about the lack of details that wouldn't really be that interesting regardless. Looks even more that way with your complaint about the songs. A majority of the songs do what musical segments are "meant" to do, but two short silly songs means an official complaint? Simply put, I think you're being a tad too hard on the film. Did the hype really set your expectations that high?
JEEVES Give me a break. I didn't expect anything from this movie that I wouldn't expect from any other successful Disney product (even less successful Disney animated musicals, like Hercules, have songs that actually set up/move the story; they're not just there for the sake of having a song. And how would you like it if characters burst into song as Simba was dying in the desert, or right after Mulan's battle wound was discovered? Songs in a musical have a time and place, and the protagonist being hurt or literally dying is not one of them). And yes, if you're setting up a world wherein one character, and no others, has ice powers, and rock trolls are somehow a thing, some background on that would be helpful. Not an entire backstory, but *something* (yes, how did Elsa get her ice powers? Why does she have them, yet her parents and sister don't? What are these rock trolls? How do the king and queen know about them, and that they can help their daughters?). I'm sorry if you consider my annoyance with asspulled writing "nitpicking."
+Duke Spubber You should certainly give it a shot, it blew up, but there was a good reason it did. Even 2 Years later Theaters are playing it. So watch and enjoy. Its a Disney movie and one of the best in the past 20 Years.
Hahaa Frozen. I could talk about this movie for a while, it makes me wish I could do a Disneycember myself. I thought this movie was SUCH a waste of concept. I mean, when I heard that Disney was doing "The Ice Queen" I thought holy wow, I can't wait to see another great Disney villain queen whose also one of the first to be turned into a good guy by the end, I can't wait to see the relationships and the heart felt morals this movie will teach and... It just completely went soft. Elsa is no Ice Queen, she's just a little girl that ran away from home that they had to bring back. Everything Elsa did wrong was on accident, undermining the entire point of melting the Ice Queen's heart, and the virtue that came with doing so. I don't think she was ever even angry for longer than a minute, and that's when being provoked, in the entire film. Some amount of spite and resentment was supposed to be there I'm fairly certain. And since Elsa wasn't enough of a big bad they had to force in some evil prince as a "take that" to the old fairy tale set up that had no foreshadowing and arguably was a much more unique character take before he was evil anyways. It would be such a strange character the prince, if he was all silly when talking to the princess he loved but he could honestly be really smart and organized when helping citizens in a crisis- of a kingdom that wasn't even his own. Like someone of the royal family should be able to do ideally, have some level of political intelligence. And then maybe they could butt heads over the right course of action, whether or not Elsa should be talked down and saved or if the people are more important and Elsa must be stopped etc- and then that's what makes Anna dislike him, because they end up on opposite sides for good reason. It would also help their "don't just marry the first guy you meet" moral by giving a realistic reason to not be compatible with someone. But the ice guy and his moose were boring anyways. I guess they couldn't quite commit to Anna just not being in a relationship by the end so they had to throw in this guy and his box trolls. It's pretty clear they didn't really put much thought into him sense he's sorta just lumped in with the troll guys and he's seen just... playing on the ice for no conceivable reason at the beginning. But honestly I think all the scenes given to him would of been better spent developing any other character in the film. Like Elsa. I mean, what was Elsa doing when off screen? She must of sat down and just started... to think at some point right? Cutting back to her alone with her thoughts after her big song might of helped her character a bit. ... What were the trolls about anyways? Where did that idea come from? Was anything even close to them in the original story? ehh And you know, I really wanted to like this because so many other people do but the more I watch it, the less I like it. I just can't understand what people see in it. Just my luck I guess, it'd be this movie in particular I don't like.
fabulous movie. great songs, great characters, the comedy is there, the drama is there, immersive setting and culture. you'd have to try really hard or be really cynical to dislike it.
The only real problem I have with this movie is how little attention they gave to Elsa. Seriously, she's suppose to be the secondary-main character but she only has what...16 minutes of screen-time compared to Anna's. I mean for God's sake she has even LESS screen-time than Kristoff! The creators are treating her in this movie like she's filler or a waist of animation and it pisses me off because she's actually my favorite.Well if that's the case then why even make her a sympathetic character at all? It's a shame too because she's the most interesting character in my opinion yet she's barely in it or is barely given any scenes with her to even care about her. I felt bad for her because it feels like the creators purposefully gave her so little screen-time just to spite her.
+kristof gergely Eh, I'm more of the "quality-over-quantity" person. Honestly, screentime is only part of what makes a movie/TV character good, the other part (and arguably, the most important part) is how that time is used. I can know characters that got way less screentime than the other characters but, because the scenes they were in awesome and well-written, audiences went nuts over them. That's why a lot of writers recommend cutting useless filler scenes and giving strong character introductions, it's not the time you have, it's how you USE the time you have. Of course, I would've loved more Elsa scenes too, but I loved what they did with her and how much work they put into in the scenes she was in. They weren't the mark of someone who didn't care about the character.
Well, seeing as how Elsa is obviously the most popular character in frozen, her "limited screen time" was put to good use. I honestly didn't even notice that she wasn't in the movie that much. For me, she had just enough screen time tbh. When you watch the movie you definitely still see that she's a prominent figure in the film
Yeah it was explained in "A New Hope". The reactor had a heat vent, which you could shoot a proton torpedo down and cause it to go critical. Considering the Empire is specifically said to discount the idea of small craft being a threat and only small craft could have been in a position to fire that shot, it's not that surprising. The Empire tends to overconfidence, and in one of the most massive projects in galactic history they made an incredibly minor oversight that would only cause a problem if a) the plans were given to the enemy, b) the enemy was able to fight it's way through enormous amounts of AA and fighter cover down a narrow trench and c) they made an almost impossible shot. The idea that this is a plot hole is bizarre.
I have no shame ion saying this: I agree it is overly merchandised and overplayed But fuck it! I love this movie! It's a modern Disney film that I love I love the music in it, I love the characters, and I love the animation For those who hate it, hey to each their own, I get it. But I just can't find it in myself to hate this movie Say what you will, I am like Doug here, I am a person who will love this movie but agree it's overplayed Thanks for reading (Also if this gets any hate comments I will say it again: To each their own, no one likes everything)
I found myself agreeing more with Honest Trailers's take on this film. In fact I managed to meet Jon Bailey at last year's WasabiCon in Jacksonville, Florida and he actually admitted his dislike for Frozen! And it's not really hard to see why. I've said this many times before: Frozen is the kind of Disney Princess film Corporate Commander would make. Back in 2013 I knew right from watching the TV commercials for this film that Disney was playing it safe that year, and when I finally saw it in the theater, I was totally right; And no, I don't hate this film because of its popularity and hype (well, okay, part of it), or what it "promotes", I hate it because of how friggin' manipulative it really is, and nowhere is that more evident than in the soundtrack. It not only feels like a total cash-in to Wicked--you know, since EVERYBODY"S copying it anyway--but it has some of the most horribly uninspired lyrics and irritating "pop" music I've ever heard, just painfully overrated! I could not have wanted to exit the theater so bad. Granted, Disney always had some level of modernization in their fairy tale movies and in their songs, but they were never THIS blatant in modernization like in this movie, not to mention the bad modernized dialogue. That, and the story is pretty much an unfocused mess when you really look at it. The first 15 minutes started the movie off promisingly, like it was about to truly set itself apart from other Princess films, but when the musical number "Build a Snowman" came on, the rest of the film went downhill. The plot can't decide if it wants to satirize all the Princess cliches that made past movies successful (Enchanted), embrace said cliches (Tangled), or just do its own thing, it just goes back and forth. Because of this, a lot of its comedy, when it tries for satire, feels out of place. Most of the characters are also annoying, especially Anna, and because of that rushed backstory with the two Princesses, there wasn't anything to make me care about them (Why the hell do they have such dumbass parents?), or any of the other characters (with the exception of Olaf, whom I'll admit was an enjoyable comedy relief). Oh sure, the big reveal when the Prince turns out to be the villain was unpredictable, but was it really necessary? Did it enhance the story more than alienate it? Quite the opposite, in my opinion--turned the Prince into a typical James Bond-esque villain! I don't care how new the ideas may seem, it's the EXECUTION that matters! And the new ideas, or the rest of the film for that matter, are not executed well! Okay, maybe I'm the wrong person for this film, maybe I just grew up, but please hear me out on this: I'm part of the generation that grew up with Disney's 90s Renaissance period of animated films, some of which I have seen in theaters. These are some of my animated films of all time--Hunchback of Notre Dame, Rescuers Down Under, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King--and I have such fond memories of watching them as a kid. This--this just PALES in comparison to the near-excellent quality of those films. When I think of Frozen, I just keep seeing the blatant messages, "Buy our stuff! Buy our soundtracks! This is you! You act like this! You love those cliches in the past right?! Well too bad! We're not taking that route! Well, okay, maybe we will, since these same cliches sold in the past!" It's so depressing to see today's generation praise this film like it's the best Disney animated film ever made, when it's clearly not. If this ends up being the route Disney will take for future films, even outside the Princess ones, I will not stand for it. Is it the worst Disney film? I don't think so, but it's certainly one of the weaker ones, and THE most overrated. And it clearly doesn't deserve a sequel, either! Seriously, how can they make that work?
To me it was meh at best. So much that I had to watch Tangled right after just to shake off the meh-ness. Plus, that forced plot twist they actually had to squeeze in because they suddenly realized they don't want to make Elsa a villain. Ugh.
Well apparently they were going to make her the villain until the creators heard Let It Go for the first time and they knew they had to make her a good guy.
As an animator, I have to say this movie is absolutely, stunningly gorgeous. It blows my mind just how much detail and love went into it. It's a great movie. Extremely overhyped, but still a solid movie. As an average person, though, I have to say, "For the love of God, ENOUGH with the Frozen crap!"
+HyperTrent Hate to say it, but I think Disney is going to try to shoehorn in Frozen into KH3. I heard they forced Square Enix to put in Pirates of the Caribbean and Chicken Little into Kingdom Hearts 2 for marketing purposes. Apparently both of those movies didn't appeal to the far eastern countries and Disney was hoping that their inclusion in Kingdom Hearts 2 would get them interested in watching the movies. For KH3, a Frozen world may possibly be used to boost sales in the game given it's popularity worldwide, but I don't know for sure; anything could happen.
thank you so much for doing this, i love your reviews and its nice to see someone actually comment about how good this movie was, because lets be real, it truly was great having it around. Its a shame the marketing and merchandise made it annoying to the majority of people, but im so happy this movie exists, definetly one of my top 5 disney movies as well
I don't care how over hyped and over played this movie is... it is a really awesome movie, period. Sure it has it's share of problems(like any movie). But this was wonderful to watch. It being overused doesn't in any way make it any less of a great film.
i haven't watched Frozen since my brother's kids moved away and he has two girls. i need to give it another watch. Anna is still my favorite character, she's so warm and sweet. plus i love her bed head.
I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and I thought that it was pretty solid for what it was. It's hard for me to say that it's one of the best movies of all time or anything, but for what it is...I think it's good, solid, and harmless.
I've got to disagree with on this one. I felt like they went out of their way to hammer in how progressive they were being. I also felt that the characters were super flat. There wasn't much going on internally that I find interesting. I dunno, I guess that the whole experience left me going, "Was that it? Did I watch the same movie everyone else did?" But it doesn't quite matter, does it? People who liked it get to be saturated in the merchandise, while people like me can just ignore it.
Progressive? Dude it's the most misogynist movie I've ever seen, and I've seen one based on John Norman's Gor books. Think about the female characters, would you want to be friends with ANY of them. Or would you avoid them and advise your friends to avoid them and particularly not to 'stick it in crazy'. The Queen is a nonentity that goes along with her man's bad decisions. Great role model. Elsa is a psychotic who closes herself off and explodes in rage when there's any problem she can't run away from. Her getting power, magical or political, is obviously a really BAD thing. Anna is so neurotically deprived of affection that she literally does the same thing over and over, present herself and beg for affection. When it doesn't work she does it harder.
Thank you for seeing the beauty in my second favourite film. It's something that means a hell of a lot to me. I'm glad that you can see it for what it is. This video might even help me face up to watching it again. I know it's my second favourite but I haven't seen it in about three or four years because I became scared, much like Elsa. I've this year been starting to listen to the songs again, as well as just anything that Idina Menzel does. Anyway, thank you. This video made my night.
It goes to show what overexposure does to media. I thought Frozen was a pretty good movie when it came out, something that I could go back to a say, "Yeah, that was great.". But then everyone just went on and on and on about it as if god had dessended from the heavens in the form of a movie. Remixes, parodies, fan theories, it just never stopped. Now people hate it simply because others wont shut up about it and I have to say I'm in a similar boat nowadays. I cant go back to it without being reminded of all the shitposting people did for it. If there were an alternative future where Frozen was not overhyped to shit a year or two ago then how would it be received today? Would it still be beloved without people hating it, or would have it been forgotten?
It would still be bloved. Just maybe not be everywhere as much. And honestly? People who hate a movie just because it's everywhere, rather than disliking a movie on its own merits, is incredibly shallow and petty.
Frozen's one of my favourite Disney movies. The only one that rivals it in my eyes is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. While it's nowhere near as dark as THOND, Frozen did take a risk by showing the effects of child abuse. It's done very subtly, so subtly that the movie shows was no indication that even Elsa or Anna realised it was happening and Doug sees it as a plot hole, but it actually makes sense for the story. Anna and Elsa's parents separated them, locked them away, taught Elsa to fear and hate herself and probably neglected Anna because they were so busy with Elsa and looking after the kingdom. The king and queen weren't bad people but they were bad parents and a lot of people don't seem to notice that. They also touched on homosexuality when they showed Oaken's family and as far as I know, Disney has never done that before. Elsa's one of the greatest Disney characters ever created in my opinion. She's not perfect but that's exactly why she's such a great character. She runs and hides - one could even argue that she's a coward (I feel kind of bad for saying that but I'm not sure what other word to use) - but it makes perfect sense that she would be like that because she's so afraid of hurting people. Despite her habit of running and hiding, she can still kick ass when she needs to. Those two thugs from Weselton didn't stand a chance, especially once Elsa decided she'd had enough and stopped holding back. They were lucky Hans arrived when he did and Hans himself wouldn't have fared any better if Elsa had tried to defend herself from him. I haven't seen any of Idina Menzel's work outside the Frozen franchise but I can tell from her performance as Elsa that she is extremely talented. She's in her forties but if anything her age just made her more suitable for the role because Elsa was forced to grow up faster than most people and missed out on a lot of her childhood, so they needed an actress who can show her maturity. At the same time though, Idina still sounds young enough to show her playful, childish side. She was perfect for the role. I've only seen a handful of clips from Once Upon A Time and judging by what I saw, Georgina Haig is a capable actress but I think the main reason they chose her was because she's younger than Idina. While Idina sounds young enough to play a twenty one year old, she doesn't look that young anymore. She's still an attractive woman though and this is coming from a guy half her age. I like Anna too but she's not as interesting or complex as Elsa and Kristen Bell's voice work, although great, didn't stand out to me as much as Idina Menzel's did. To be fair though, that might be because I simply more interested in Elsa rather than any flaws in Kristen's voice acting. Olaf was good comedy relief and he wasn't obnoxious. He was just innocently childlike and not particularly intelligent but in a likeable way and at the same time he showed signs of wisdom. Also I think people often overlook the fact that he broke Anna out of the room Hans locked her in so without him, the movie would not have had a happy ending. Kristoff and Sven were good and their "conversations" were entertaining but I wasn't hugely interested in them. Hans was a decent villain but nowhere near as good as Frollo. The Duke of Weselton was quite funny and what I like about him, is that he's not a bad person. He was genuinely upset when he thought Anna was dead but he serves as a villain in the story because of his prejudice and fear. Overall I think Frozen is a masterpiece and deserves all the praise it gets. As for the haters... there are politer ways of saying this, but they can piss off. If they don't like the movie, they don't have to watch it but they shouldn't try to ruin other peoples enjoyment of it.
"Let it go", "do you want to build a snowman" and "for the first time in forever" are certainly great, but am I the only one who wants to mention "Frozen Heart" as the for me best Song of that movie?
I also think the last-minute villain also makes sense the more you think about him, his motivation, what little's revealed about his backstory, and his actions line up given what he's trying to accomplish! It all fits, and I think this movie is all the more brilliant for it!
MusicalKittens Also, I hate to put salt on an open wound, but people completely forgot that back in late 2013, when Frozen was fresh and new in theatres, along with Saving Mr.
People say that this movie is the greatest masterpiece of disney . I can give cards that that's true, but I don't think that it deserves the hype that lets say the lion king got,but I will say that even at the age of me or other people, you get a kick out of it,and you like it after the first song, maybe even before that.
I love this movie, but more importantly, I love Elsa. She was what made the movie for me. The heart-rending moments and terrible feelings she must feel, the joy and the love she has for her sister and friends. She was the glue for the movie and Let It Go was the reason I went to see it. I watched the video here on TH-cam thirty or forty times and knew I had to see the movie when it came out because I loved the song and Elsa. Also just love the fact that she became a *Queen* in this story. And she's on the Disney Princess list as a queen! That's very well-done. Shame they treated the movie for special features like a joke. The Blu Ray was lacking for a movie that made them billions...
I just can't get over the fact that not only does elsa have power over the cold, she can create and destroy sentient life on a whim. When olaf was created his first words should have been "OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK! WHERE AM I, WHO ARE YOU!"
How does it break cliches? The bum who acts like a clueless ass to the woman gets the woman. That's been done like a million times in movies it's almost the norm. I was actually excited at the beginning when I thought for once we were shown a guy who was royalty and elite but not a snob you were required to hate. He was handing out blankets at one points when the sisters were prancing around the kingdom trying to fix their emotional issues. Now THAT was a unique idea for a prince. Then they turned around and pissed all over it by bringing us right back to the cliche.
Also, I feel the need to point out that this movie used a cliche straight out of Saved by the Bell. In stories with a love triangle, "make the hypotenuse evil" (a snob, a cheater, a jerk, etc.) is the oldest cliche in the book. And what's incredibly insulting about it is that it essentially makes up the protagonist's mind for them; that the not-jerk love interest is the right one (regardless of any other factor). And seriously, just making Hans evil doesn't make Kristoff the best option by default (didn't he spend a lot of the time after they first met being rude and talking down to her?).
The queen not only being a major role but NOT a bad guy, the whole 'marrying someone you just met' shtick being criticized, plus the climax was Anna saving Elsa instead of Kristoff saving Anna or something. And basically the first sister sister Disney princess movie (and I say princess movie, not Disney movie period). Basically major elements involved in most classic Disney movies getting a twist. Granted the parents still died but nonetheless, it broke away from stereotypes.
Wouldn't it have been a MASSIVE break in cliches to have BOTH guys be decent and make the lead character CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM? But, nope... sudden villain because... uhm, I don't really know. The movie didn't need it.
I loved this movie. It brought me back to a time when i was little and my mind was filled with the wonder and happiness. I don't care that people hate it, my opinion is that it's a good movie that makes me smile.
Here's a drinking game everyone; Every time you see a comment on this video whining how Frozen is too popular and says it's 'overrated and don't get why it's so popular', take a shot. Look, I know not everyone will enjoy the movie, but if you don't like the film, at least be quiet about it's popularity, even if it's hard not to ignore it.
I'll do you one better; take a drink every time you see someone whining about those whining how it's overrated. I see more people complaining about "haters" than actual hate comments. It doesn't help that YOU yourself have made multiple comments on the matter. How about following your own advice?
+jase276 Its been a long time since I've seen people defend this film. I'm convinced that the entire internet hates this film now. I'm actually relieved to see that these people still exist!
The thing I like about this story is that it's not based on anything else. Disney is great at adapting stories and making them all lovey-dovey whilst staying true to some original elements of the authors/writers. This one was pulled straight out of nowhere with no original story to fall back on, because it's original on its own. In this day and age, that's extremely impressive. It's not my favorite, and I agree that it's overplayed, but it's a good story. I also love the way they incorporated it into Once Upon a Time, aside from Kristoff. His character in the movie is pretty likable, whereas on the show, he's pretty bland.
Well, the Snow Queen is an original fairy tale but there are no real parallels between Frozen and the Snow Queen. Apart from there just being a snow queen in them they're completely different. If you ever get a chance, I do recommend reading the real Hans Christian Andersen version. Lets just say there's a demon mirror, a long journey across many countries, ice skates, and the whole thing gets wrapped up by praying to baby jesus.
I absolutely love Frozen. I only have one problem with it; the unfreezing at the end felt rushed, but I'm just so happy they showed that true love can come from your family and doesn't have to come from a man that I can overlook that. I do hope Frozen 2 will help fill in the gaps in the backstory, because the more I think about it the more I question it. How did the king know about the trolls? It just comes out of nowhere and I'd like an answer.
Now, let us all imagine Doug in his car, driving to the supermarket, playing "Let it Go" at top volume, and singing along the whole time without missing a single lyric. Also, try not to smile or laugh at the image.
Frozen is one of those phenomenons that really make me so confused about the internet. I never thought something as innocent and fun, a bloody Disney film, could gather so much hate and unnecessary anger towards people on both sides of the fence. Literally every person who goes out of their way to say they hate Frozen seem like they are some socially awkward teen who wants to look cool and different in front of their internet friends. Never in my life did I ever expect to hear a group of people so damn angry and generally filled with rage about a child friendly film about a princess and a talking flamboyant snowman. It gets better though! The people who feel like they need to defend their "perfect movie" are just as bad. Some of the comments on the songs, trailers and reviews for just commenting about the smallest thing... You would think you accidental landed in a political debate about gun laws or something. I liked the film. In fact I watched it twice with my siblings because we liked it that much when it was first being showed. I don't feel the need to defend the movie to my last breath. It's okay that people have a different or negative opinion of the film, even if it is a bit extreme. As for the people who hate this film I also saw its many plot holes in the film but for crying out loud it's a film that's trying to target a huge demographic of young children. Of course they will simplify plot points or make it a bit unbelievable. Tl;Dr: Internet is a scary place to have opinions.
+Guy Clark I agree with your statement... except when you brought up the "target demographic is young children" statement. Disney movies are supposed to be made for FAMILIES and moviegoing audiences, so of course it's going to get SOME criticism. It's entertainment. It's open to criticism regardless of target audience. In fact, you're probably the ONLY person I've seen that tried to say, "It's a children's movie" on FROZEN. But with that said, THANK. YOU. To me, with media commentary and discussion nowadays, it's INESCAPABLE. It's borderline impossible for anyone to feel IMPARTIAL about Frozen. I think it's just the advent of the internet; Let's be honest, how many people brought up 20 million plot holes in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? NONE. It was 1937, and audiences just wanted to have casual fun, and that's what Disney movies bring. Heck, most detractors of Frozen who bring up "plot holes," are just nitpicking! Or at least 90% of the plot holes. I can't deny that Frozen is perfect, and I do agree that the backstory is very rushed, but the plot holes don't bother me as much as other people. It's not supposed to be revolutionary, it's not supposed to be a game-changer, it's just supposed to be an innocent, and good movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
Frozen is my favorite modern animated Disney film. I appreciate that they use sister love to solve the problem instead of love between a princess and a random guy.
I must say,the only things i hate about this movie are the obnoxious people who disregard other classics by ingoring the fact that this movie is a form of disney going back to their roots and saying "oh, frozen did this first... " yada yada. Oh, ad the twist was pretty shit. They should have maybe built up the reveal or make an ending where ana chooses kristoff over hanswithout outside interference.
BoopaDoop Johnson You know what I also don't like? The fact that people seem to criticize a Disney movie because "It's not a Disney Classic!" People seem to have WAY too high expectations for Disney movies nowadays.
Dave Kendall i never said I hated it because its not a classic. I just said that with all the hype and exitement around it people dropped what they were doing and just made claims that werent very true. It doesnt have to be a classic to be great or original, but when people say that its the first to do something when it wasnt really is just unfair for the movies who actually deserve the recognistion and praise for their innovation. Frozen isnt a bad movie, its just by no means the first disney flick to focus on a relationship between siblings (or more specifically sisters) above a romantic plotline.
Dave Kendall I know, right? Although its feels (might not be the case) as though it happens more with frozen than most flicks due to the immense number of people who love it.
The twist was shit, and for as much praise as this film gets for being so original and unique, solving a love triangle by making one of the love interests a douche (a jerk, a cheater, whatever) is the oldest trope in the book (teenage sitcoms have been doing it since the '80s, for the love of Pete!).
I'm going to be honest, the thing that made this film mediocre for me was the snowman. He was so infuriating, so imbecilic, he just ruined every scene. He's like the American character in Beauty and the Beast, 'oh no, Americans won't watch it unless we put some stupid character with an American accent in'...
I LOVE Olaf. And I don't think he's pointless. I think he's one of the big examples of selfless sacrifice When he says 'Some people are worth melting for', he's right Some people are worth sacrifice And I think it helps inspire Anna
I don't remember any of the other characters having a Norwegian accent, so your argument falls flat there when all the main cast is American as far as I know. Also, clearly you didn't get the point of Olaf's character in the slightest. He symbolize the bond between Anna and Elsa, the happiness of their childhoods, the sheer joy and magic that they both felt together. It's why the first thing Elsa created in Let It Go was Olaf. It was like that carefree part of her childhood was returning and she could actually be free to use her powers, rather than hiding them. Really, he had a lot more reason to be in the movie in contrast to a lot of other comic relief characters being how they are aside from just "for comedy".
Why is it that every time I go on a certain video that is either a clip of an old Disney film, or a Disney song, people always say stuff like "This movie is better than Frozen" or "This song is better than Let It Go". Out of all the Disney films why is it always Frozen that gets mentioned. I thought people hated films like Home On The Range and Chicken Little, why aren't they mentioned.
talos2233ify1 No, no. I'm fine with opinions. How they express them is the problem I have. Because Frozen haters(a lot of the time, at least) get really really angry.
+MoonlitLycan Now that's true as well. After all, I have defended several people who just said they disliked the film, and the Frozen lovers attacked. But I have been in that position before, and they are just trying to defend something they love, even if their actions aren't good, I can kinda defend those people, who I can tell probably didn't mean any harm, but just got overwhelmed. Trolls, on the other hand, fuck all of those assholes.
I liked it. My biggest issue was how the soldiers and court swapped allegiances like instantly with no signs of confliction. One scene they're backing Hans and ready to kill Elsa, the next they're cheering on Anna punching Hans in the face without knowing why except she isn't dead now
Elsa seems like she's more of a symbol for social anxiety and depression.
Aka a wineing git
Huh
Bojack Horseman is more a symbol for that than Elsa is.
I swear to fucking god, today i went to the cinema, AND THEY WERE SHOWING THIS FUCKING MOVIE!!!
IT'S BEEN TWO FUCKING YEARS NOW!!!!
+rigren0121 How odd. Oh well, who gives a shit? I mean, you weren't there to see it after all.
+rigren0121 Well, it is the season for snowy films. They're showing it here too and it's expected.
+rigren0121 Its true Frozen is everywhere right now and it is over-hyped, but its still a fun and creative movie that is smart. We just need to let the hype die down and Judging form how well the Star Wars movie is doing, I think the hype will die down soon.
That saddens me that ppl still watch this piece of shit
+Thijs van asselt
To be fair, it's nowhere near Disney's worst, not to defend the movie, since I didn't really enjoy it either.
The sad truth is: anything that's popular is bound to get haters nowadays.
This movie has an army of haters
That's the power of the trend cycle.
This is what I've been seeing through 3 years of Internet hell.
Frozen becomes a hit
People begin to hate it.
Fnaf becomes a hit (btw I love these so please keep hate comments to yourself)
People thank Fnaf for gathering people away from frozen
Fnaf gets hated.
Undertale becomes a hit.
People thank Undertale for getting people away from Fnaf
Undertale is already starting to develop hate...
And something else will replace it... And it'll repeat over and over and over like a hamster in a wheel.
Rule 201 of internet: If a things exists, It will gain haters on internet.
Lulu B I’ll be honest I was actually kind of happy that Frozen got hate because that meant people weren’t hating on the Cars movies.
One thing that's worse than somebody who loves everything popular - somebody who hates everything popular.
+AT Productions Being hand drawn doesn't mean anything frozen is better than the lion king even if I am sick of seeing it everywhere.
All those movies you mentioned are actually good though. And yet they still weren't milked as hard as Frozen.
I got sick of the songs from frozen in weeks because of my sister and the internet, I'll say they're good but still annoying
+Damion Dixon (Deezyfesheezy) it's because you were a kid but aladin, pocahantas and especially the lion king was really milked to death.
You have no idea how much of a relief it is to hear someone say _Frozen_ is overrated, but nonetheless a great movie. It's not like it can't be both.
+Stormy Kopa How To Train Your Dragon and HTTYD 2 destroy Frozen.
+Juan Ibarra
I myself would agree that Dragon movies were better. But that's subjective, ok? I just like that type of movie better. To be more on point, comic characters from the dragons aren't all over the place, and I also can't remember a character that were there just for comic reasons. Olaf, however, pretty much has only one purpose.
+Juan Ibarra yeah right nice one pal 😂😂
I know right? I admit I am a huge fangirl with things that tend to be popular... But not because they're popular... Because in my opinion they're so amazing and unique!
SupermarketSweep777 I think that they are both very good movies
I am not a big fan of this movie, but I still respect Doug's opinion, just wish that the rabid Frozen haters in the comments would actually respect that too.
Behold- the posterchild of the Hype Backlash trope.
The only exception is Pixar's Monsters University
This is kinda in the same vains to what Inside Out brought Pixar back to their roots after their downfall with Cars 2.
Bethany Ashley
+SirThinks2Much
Elsa was originally going to be the villain, I think it was actually while writing Let it Go that they decided she should be more of a well intentional antagonist turned protagonist, with some personal struggles to deal with.
+MoonlitLycan Feel the same way, although it could just be because of my age, and taste in movies.
Animefan764 I love Beauty and the Beast, Wreck it Ralph, and Lilo and Stitch, but I wouldn't call myself a huge Disney fan in general.
I really agree. This movie is great. One of my favorites of 2013
"I'm one of those obnoxious people who plays it over and over" - welcome to the club
yeah
let it go let it go
we cant be helped anymore
The Frozen hate is officially more annoying than the Frozen hype
In all fairness, the hype came first and was everywhere.
But because it's still around, the hate is louder now.
oh yea
+AT Productions Not all haters are like that. I dislike the movie to a far extent, but I do not address my hate when it is unneeded, only when people are talking about how the movie is either good or bad. Also, if people wouldn't address the haters, maybe they'll eventually just shut up and get used to the hype it has gained because they see their complaints do nothing to it.
+Logan Talley Or maybe they'll just hate on prank videos or reaction videos or something
+John Reviews (johnthguy) Nah, I'd say the hype is still a lot worse.
This movie has everything I like about Disney: The beautiful animation, the catchy music, the likeable characters, the story, the emotions, the moral messages, the humor, and the happy ending.
Saw it for the first time two days ago and loved it.
I don't give half a shit what other people say, I still absolutely love this movie.
+100percentgamer That's fine. You're one of the few normal Frozen fans who don't complain or go insane whenever anyone doesn't like it.
***** Yes they do. Everyone has a reason to hate it.
at first I really liked this movie but now it annoys me because of "let it go"
+100percentgamer And now I'm picturing Kylo Ren singing Let It Go....
While I loved Frozen too and enjoy many of these movies of Disney's new "Revival Age" I do have one big problem with them and its not CGI!
the villains
All of them are last minute reveals and while those do work I am getting tired of it, because we only see them as villains for at least 10 to 30 min they don't feel as dangerous or funny in comparison to say Scar or Maleficent.
Banks, both movies were considered to be Disney's major improvements in 2013 after they almost embarrassed themselves during the summer with Planes (a cheap Cars Spinoff) and The Lone Ranger (a box office bomb). The only exception is Pixar's Monsters University
This is kinda in the same vains to what Inside Out brought Pixar back to their roots after their downfall with Cars 2.
Tamatoa from Moana was at least entertaining despite his short screen time.
Because the movie wants to genuinely surprise you with the fact that he's a villain???
Finally! I'm not the only one who loves this film!
what do you basically everyone loves
عبد البديع فلاتة When it came out, everyone loved it. Nowadays, everyone hates it. Except for me and Doug.
What are you talking about? it is my favorite movie of all time!
Ena Venturo The internet hates this movie because it was everywhere. Honestly, that's extremely unfair. I don't care what they say anyway, I'm still gonna love this movie. It's among my favorite Disney movies of all time.
What are you talking about? I fucking adore this film! 😍
I agree
Took every word right out of my mouth.
Something tells me Frozen 2 will go above and beyond it's predecessor
Frozen was a pretty good movie. It wasnt the best movie of all time, but I'll be damned if I aint rewatching it over and over every Christmas.
Anna legit is my favorite part about this movie. I love her character arc and how relatable it is to people like me who are almost too trusting and open to others.
Honestly when I watch other disney movies, I enjoy them and notice more flaws with each new viewing, but with Frozen, I am in tears from just the opening visuals. Everyone has their own tastes, but there is nothing about Frozen that I do not love and find perfect.
I think it's being overmilked, but I will play Let It Go as much as I want!
And here come the hate comments.
I strongly dislike this film but I can understand why some like this movie.
+Frank Castle Same here I HATE this film
+Shredder loves raven forever Not same, here, it's a brilliantly done work of animation.
Ross Pit: shark hunter ok then explain something to me. How did elsa get her powers?
Frank Castle Fuck if I know, but that's not the point of the film.
This was the *greatest* Disney film to come out in _years_.
_Frozen_ is a legitimately Great film and I've lost count how many times I've watched it because it never gets old.
+Paradox Acres No it wasn't. Legitimately great film my ass.
***** Thanks for your input,now bye :3
What about the Brave Little Toaster?
+TheGoldenAge It's my opinion and also technically a fact. Bad movies don't get the amount of praise, continuous theatrical releases, musicals, merchandising years after its release, etc. I understand a whole bunch of good movies also don't get the same treatment, but the fact that it IS getting the treatment should be an obvious testament of it's quality. It doesn't mean it's a perfect movie, but it definitely does mean that it's not a bad one. That is a fact.
This movie was ok, but people won't shut up about it! It's not like it's a masterpiece or anything!
+Calebite Well A. that's subjective, and B. people won't stop hating it on my end, and it's really pissing me off.
+Ross Pit: shark hunter There's nothing special about the movie! It's just another stupid disney princess movie!
Dion Bullock Well, A. That's(again) Subjective, and B... Nah, it really is just that it's subjective.
***** Isn't that kinda awesome, though?
***** Well, that sucks, I suppose, but at least it's giving them interest in other cultures, even if it's for a completely biased reason.
I've heard a lot of people say that they saw the last minute villain coming a mile away, but I don't know. I saw this movie in the theatre twice, and both times, when the "expected twist" was revealed, the entire audience gasped in disbelief. I even heard someone say, "What?! No!"
Look. Can't we all agree that it's nice to see Doug enthusiastic about a movie even if it's one we don't care for.
Can't deny that the characters were charming :)
Honestly, it's the characters that I love in all the Disney film's of today.
Now, just to let this off my chest, I need to make a rant here:
Okay, I understand why you don't like the film and you don't really like how it's being everywhere, but please, if you want pepole to shut up about this movie, here's a good idea; why don't YOU also shut up as well?
+Alex Ramirez Yeah your comment pretty much summed up my thoughts on the whole thing exactly lol
My thoughts exactly.
+Logan Talley Great. You are one of the few people that actually have a legit reason for not liking the movie. We need more peeps like you.
I stopped at 'haters'.
I'll just quote my review of this movie that I posted on TV Tropes (with some thoughts added; damn word count limit):
"I'll be really honest: I didn't see Frozen until May 2014 when it was out of theaters, and I watched it On Demand.
Hans could have just not been shoehorned into the villain role, and Anna could have had a female traveling companion (perhaps the robber girl, an actual character from The Snow Queen), and the plot could have stayed relatively the same, minus the infamous ‘Fixer Upper’ song, which brings me to…
There were far too many pointless songs in this movie. I know this movie has tons of fans, but I’m just not one of them."
TL; DR- This movie is a colorful mess of lazy writing, unrealized characters, and pointless songs. Please remember to spell-check your hate comments.
***** I don't even know why they're making a sequel. No one even is interested in Frozen anymore; they should have quit while they were ahead.
It's not woven like your finest quilt, but *"nothing about how common being born with ice powers is in this world, nothing about how people with ice powers are viewed"?*
It may not be explained, but it should seem obvious to just about anyone that these questions don't really need answers.
I still haven't actually seen this movie.
EDIT: Now I have. My thoughts in a post below.
Good.
Thanks for sharing
See it. Judge the film on your own.
+Duke Spubber You should certainly give it a shot, it blew up, but there was a good reason it did. Even 2 Years later Theaters are playing it. So watch and enjoy. Its a Disney movie and one of the best in the past 20 Years.
I actually have a digital copy of the movie for about a year now. Never got around to watching it.
Was anything even close to them in the original story? ehh
And you know, I really wanted to like this because so many other people do but the more I watch it, the less I like it. I just can't understand what people see in it. Just my luck I guess, it'd be this movie in particular I don't like.
Kristoff wasn't playing on the ice, he was desperately trying to earn a living so h didn't starve.
Tangled > Frozen
+Rob Bob Personally, I prefer Frozen, buuuut, to each their own.
no just no
+The Great Wise Observer FMA 2003>Brotherhood ;)
AT Productions i like tangled but i love frozen. After Fantasia it's my favorite Disney Movie
AT Productions Don't worry ;)
fabulous movie. great songs, great characters, the comedy is there, the drama is there, immersive setting and culture. you'd have to try really hard or be really cynical to dislike it.
AT Productions
Well I think it's a cruel miss-treating of a character who's suppose to be important.
+kristof gergely I agree. :)
+kristof gergely Well, she _was_ an introvert. It would make sense plot-wise.
+kristof gergely
Eh, I'm more of the "quality-over-quantity" person.
"How does Luke Skywalker blow up the Death Star with one shot"
Oh... well... that's... been explained now...
Go see Rogue One you'll understand.
peanutjelly1337 I was just thinking that lol
Same way a single torpedo blew up the Lusitania. Duh. You hit a vulnerable spot, a reactor, an artillery magazine... it goes KABOOM. Nuff said.
Not by George Lucas.
I have no shame ion saying this:
I agree it is overly merchandised and overplayed
But fuck it! I love this movie!
It's a modern Disney film that I love
I love the music in it, I love the characters, and I love the animation
For those who hate it, hey to each their own, I get it. But I just can't find it in myself to hate this movie
Say what you will, I am like Doug here, I am a person who will love this movie but agree it's overplayed
Thanks for reading
(Also if this gets any hate comments I will say it again: To each their own, no one likes everything)
Yeah, me too.
Ugh.
i think it would have worked well for elsa being the villian
Elsa is the villain.
I completely agree, I LOVE FROZEN!!!!!!!! And I can't wait to see it in Kingdom Hearts 3! :3 Also, Merry Christmas everyone!!! :3
Wait a minute WHAT??????
Also Merry Christmas to you too!
Wait, has frozen been confirmed to be a world in kh3?
Trolololo lololo No, but I mean, would it surprise you if it was? I would be surprised if it's not on the final game! :p
Gustavo Barría Chavarría I would be surprised...in a negative way.
+HyperTrent
Hate to say it, but I think Disney is going to try to shoehorn in Frozen into KH3.
Its a shame the marketing and merchandise made it annoying to the majority of people, but im so happy this movie exists, definetly one of my top 5 disney movies as well
Her name is Aw-na, not Anne-uh
I need to watch this again.
Lucas Mckenzie me too. On my iPhone, iPad, and my Chromebook.
Oh, hey. The movie about Rapunzel's sister!
+Duke Spubber No, she's definitely Luke's daughter...wait what?
tarzans sisters!
+Duke Spubber exactly
+AT Productions
No shit.. that was a fan theory reference.
+Duke Spubber I liked that theory, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure I agree with it. Oh well, better then the Tarzan theory.
Frozen holiday classic it warms the heart!!!
OMG!! So excited to know you love this movie! Yay!
Heh. My dad was an animator for this movie. Look in the credits, his name is Brian F. Menz. You can actually find him if you look him up.
Time to ruin a movie:
I found Frozen Condoms
Fucking seriously???
Awesomebacon that's disturbing
Michelle Williams and believe me......it gets worse from there
and i shall ruin countless childhoods....there are pikachu condoms
Better thaw them out then.
THANK YOU.
Whats your favourite??
Lego Qui-Gon Jinn Lilo And Stitch.
Forgotten.
It would still be bloved. Just maybe not be everywhere as much. And honestly? People who hate a movie just because it's everywhere, rather than disliking a movie on its own merits, is incredibly shallow and petty.
Critic- "I really like Frozen"
Me- "You called Kristoff a CLIMBER!!!!"
+Tom Norton Frozen changes our way to watch Disney movies, and not for the good.
just watched frozen for the first time :)... its amazing...
Okay, we ALL know that the trolls turned Hanz evil!
That would actually make me totally forgive the weaksauce twist.
The twist was predictable too in my opinion. It worked though
"Let it go", "do you want to build a snowman" and "for the first time in forever" are certainly great,
but am I the only one who wants to mention "Frozen Heart" as the for me best Song of that movie?
It definitely has a lot of foreshadowing and it's a bit of a bummer it wasn't in the broadway show.
I also think the last-minute villain also makes sense the more you think about him, his motivation, what little's revealed about his backstory, and his actions line up given what he's trying to accomplish! It all fits, and I think this movie is all the more brilliant for it!
another plus point for this movie is they managed to honor the author of the original text in their character names
Its 2015 going on 2016. All I hear about the movie now is hatred. So sad....
MusicalKittens Also, I hate to put salt on an open wound, but people completely forgot that back in late 2013, when Frozen was fresh and new in theatres, along with Saving Mr.
The way I see it, while not a perfect update of the Disney fairytale and it is definitely all over the place, it's still a classic.
Amazing movie 😀😀😀
Are you nuts?! Don't let everyone die from that drinking game!
my liver won't forgive me if I do
if I get alcohol poioning you're going to court
His character in the movie is pretty likable, whereas on the show, he's pretty bland.
uhhh not really. The Snow Queen.
JEEVES True. I didn't think of that lol
One of your top 10 or top 5 favorite Disney movies?! Well said Doug.
10 years later still great
The story felt unfinished to me.
I liked the first half, but the second half wasn't very good IMO.
That's how I feel about Big Hero 6.
that's what sequels are for
It felt finished to me
me too
How does Doug love this film but think Lion King is just "ok?"
And cue the "Frozen is overrated" comments
Music: "That Special Day" or "Wedding Invitation" by Jason Farnham.
Dude, just came into the comment section looking for you, I didn't think you could exist. Thanks
It's not a fairy tale, lt's a book called, 'The Snow Queen'.
Not really, if you're familiar with the actual story of the Snow Queen.
VIIStar
You're right. I thought fairy tales are older, like from medieval times.
VIIStar Yeah, seems interesting.
Well it's both.
+Pikagirl541 Belle loves more her father Maurice than the Beast, remember?
Am I a monster for almost hating this movie and its songs (except for the first one)?
It's totally fine. There's nothing wrong with hating the movie as long as you respect those who do like it.
Axel Smith no you aren't. Having an opinion doesn't equal a monster
Axel Smith no
Axel Smith Yes.
I love frozen too. Frozen is so good it's one of my favorites I love the way Elsa sacrificed her life for Anna and Anna sacrifice turns life for hers.
Saying "'Frozen is overrated' is overrated" is overrated.
Well it is.
Overratedception
Stephen Aderanti DUUUUUUUUUNNN!
No you didn't!
BoopaDoop Johnson That's very true. This is a common problem with a LOT of movies and shows, not just Frozen.
If you want to like Frozen, watch Once Upon A Time. The characters (minus Olaf) are really fleshed out and go on great adventures.
Olaf is my favorite character
I LOVE Olaf. And I don't think he's pointless. I think he's one of the big examples of selfless sacrifice
When he says 'Some people are worth melting for', he's right
Some people are worth sacrifice
And I think it helps inspire Anna
I'm just here to see all the pissed off people in the comments. And maybe view the review.
+Ross Pit: shark hunter A.K.A:laughing at people for having opinions.
talos2233ify1 No, no. I'm fine with opinions. How they express them is the problem I have. Because Frozen haters(a lot of the time, at least) get really really angry.
+Ross Pit: shark hunter Conversely, the people who defend the movie usually get really, really angry as well.
+Ross Pit: shark hunter me to i made my mean comment now im just sitting back and laghfing
I liked it. My biggest issue was how the soldiers and court swapped allegiances like instantly with no signs of confliction. One scene they're backing Hans and ready to kill Elsa, the next they're cheering on Anna punching Hans in the face without knowing why except she isn't dead now
Three words: Protagonist-Centered Morality (well, two words, because one is hyphenated, but still).
