    "The bad guy turning in to a monster" is reminiscent of how most (final)boss battles have multiple phases though. That's why I liked it.

      +NoirRaven While Brave did have great visuals,music, and pretty good characters. The plot for Brave was NOTHING what they promised nor was it that memorable or meaningful. When the trailers and previews for the movie were originally shown we were shown stunning Scottish imagery with possible ties to some heavy Celtic mysticism but what we got was 2 hours of my mother is a bear. No mysticism after the first transformation, 90% of the movie takes place in the castle rather than the highlands, and when you ask most people about the movie they can't even remember what the moral was supposed to be.
      I like Brave I really do but it promised more than it gave. At least that's the reason I ended up not being happy with the movie.

    the thing I find interesting is that this came out the same year as Brave, and the reason I find it interesting is because Wreck it Ralph felt much more like a pixar film than Brave did, and Brave on the other hand felt much more like a tradition disney film than a Pixar film.

    To be honest, I thought the final monster fight fit in with the film. I mean, it's based on video games, it needs a final boss fight who's scary and intimidating. Sure, it didn't work perfectly, but I liked it at least.
    Same with the conflict scene. Dear god, don't tell me you didn't cry or at least come close to tears.

    • @Khanemis
      @Khanemis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +DiscoClam Well I was more annoyed during that conflict scene. Because I knew exactly how it will end and this was just another cliché detour to make story longer/more emotional without really trying something interesting.
      I Agree with the final boss thing though:)

    • @wonderrofl
      @wonderrofl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      +DiscoClam The problem with the conflict scene wasn't that it was executed badly. It was the fact that it wasn't as original/creative as the rest of the movie.

    • @numetalmarkchavez24
      @numetalmarkchavez24 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +DiscoClam Although I would agree that it is a cliche and yeah it has been done to death, I was still so invested with the characters and the story that it was hard not to cry lol

    • @Khanemis
      @Khanemis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ***** That's a valid point you have here:) Still the story could have avoided the conflict scene even after hearing all the exposition from King Candy. Let's say that Ralph would change his mind at the last second because he would realize something at King's story doesn't exactly make sense. Or something like that. Then we would have the promise of conflict scene that would in the end be twisted around. I think something like that would be better:)

    • @AlluMan96
      @AlluMan96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +DiscoClam
      I think the issue with that final climax was that it lacked genre-savvy to throw us for a loop. Like, instead of making us laugh or even remark at the clever observation the movie makes of gaming culture, it's more just a thing that exists like "Oh, sudden monster-transformation and a fight inside a volcano. That's... a thing that games do." The eternal conflict of "Parody vs Basic operating procedures." Are you a clever send-off or just another sheep in the hurd. For that whole final boss idea to have worked, it needed to go more above and beyond or do a clever lampshading or subversion of excpectations.

    I hate when doug says "this has been done a million times". Honestly dude.... everything under the sun has been done a million times. Anything and EVERYTHING that could possible happen in normal human discourse has been depicted multiple times in some flick somewhere. As Malcolm Muggeridge put it “All new news is old news happening to new people”

      The issue lies in excecution. You can make an old trick look fresh and new if you balance the elements accordingly. There's a differance between recycling and regurgitation. The only reason it feels like this has been done a million times is because this thing is always done in the same way. This is what truly seperate the cream from the crop. When we say "This has been done like a million times," it's not just us complaining about repitition, but about the lack of passion put into it.

    • @AlluMan96
      @AlluMan96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's less the plot-context and rather the emotional pacing. It's done exactly like those mis-understandings in that regard. The 2 argue, one shatters the other's heart, they start moping and then they eventually get back together and do the thing. What's actually happening on the screen is unique, but the feelings it invokes are the thing that makes it mundane.
      Why not sorta shake up the response? Why not have the Glitch (Fuck me if I'd remember her name) be sat down to talk about the dangers and have her in a bit of an existential crisis about weather she does deserve to exist in this world or not instead of the same "I feel betrayed, I hate you!" shtick? I mean, that'd actually be quite interesting, and something I'd imagine a self-consious glitch would propably contemplate in a theoretical world, where they're real.

      Funny I said that once me and my freind and her 3 younger siblings were in the mall and her younger brother started throwing a fit so when I pulled him by the ear he pushed me away and said "fight me!" so when I raised my fist he said "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses!" and everyone in my friends family wore glasses so I told her to give me hers.
      "Why?"
      "So I can hit him with your glasses!" it took her a minute to realize what i'd meant before I pulled off her glasses and hit her brother over the head with them. (this was like 10 years ago before Wreck-it-Ralph came out so I found it pretty funny that someone else thought of that.)

    This is my favorite Disney movie because Ralph and Vanellope remind me of my school years. In elementary school and middle school, not only kids made fun of me for my epilepsy, but the adults were too lazy to learn how to take care of my seizures. So, the tried to get rid of me instead. In high school my crazy councilor thought all her disabled students were useless, stupid, and put me in a class for dumb kids. Good news: she was fired. Bad news: not until I graduated.

I think movies plots about video games turn out a lot better when they're not the major focus, more of just a backbone to support the storyline. Otherwise you'd rather be playing an actual fuckin video game instead.

    I LOVED this movie! My friend even noted that my face lit up like a kid on Christmas when we saw it in theatres.
    With Calhoun's backstory, I thought its execution resulted in being unintentionally funny. Like, they tried to be serious but its presentation was too ridiculous in handling it came off as such. As for the Cy-Bug King Candy fight, it's a reference to a Final Boss fight! C'mon, Critic, you've HAD to have gone up against at least one at some point playing video games!
    And of course, I said it once, I'll say it again: If you're going to do a twist on who the villain of a story is, THIS is how you do it. That's why I fucking HATED the third act of Frozen, they threw in a twist so haphazardly that none of the previous points even connected to justify the twist. And before you say "But it teaches that people aren't what they seem!", I don't care. In fact, Film Theory did an EXCELLENT analysis of why the twist failed.

      The problem is that Disney and Pixar have dabbled in the 'secret bad guy' plot so often that it's not a surprise when one of the likeable characters turns out to be evil. This one was more sneaky since it flip flopped around with King Candy being a jerk or meaning well at first, it looked like a red herring at first, even if, yeah, in the end, he's a cliche manipulative bad guy.

    • @sarasamaletdin4574

    "Wreck-It-Ralph" is my another favorite Disney animated film that I loved. It's a heart-felted video game antagonist who wants to be the best, but he enters the world of arcade worlds like getting the medal from the extreme sci-fi action game, connecting with a friend from the "Mario-Kart" candy world, and learning to be yourself of who you are. Need for the movie and I love how they design this video game world that you can relate anything and it's good for the gamers to find it interesting, but only the good part for Disney. I love these characters including Ralph, Penelope, Felix and that Jane Lynch voice character which we've seen from her pop culture shows and they pitch their vocal perfectly. For me, this is a nicely video game crossover movie and this should've had won for the Oscar for "Best Animated Feature" because "Brave" had already won and it's the not best original animated film. But screw it, this is the best colorful animated film I had ever seen.

    Ralph's role never changes, but his view on it does. I really thought they were going to be like, "Guess what? Ralph's a hero!" but no he's still a bad guy which I love.

      As said though, the problem was, like with many films, having deceptive trailers that hype bait it into looking the appeal is something that takes up only a very small amount of the real thing. If the advertising hadn't focused so much on the cameos I think a whole lot less people would have been pissed.

    I love that a movie like this can exist! It also explores a new idea that's a perfect opening to great stories to be inspired by: Game worlds being brought together through cables in an arcade. I think the idea is something we could really work with, even though it's TECHNICALLY originally a Tron idea, but this takes it to whole new levels.

    This movie was probably the closest to a Pixar movie Disney made in my opinion, out of all their CGI movies (including Zootopia, which I quite liked but not loved). The plot was great, the jokes were funny and well developed, the characters were lovable, and the animation was colorful and grand. All those elements made this movie feel like Disney's version of Toy Story (aside from the original Toy Story). It's not perfect, as some parts like the middle and climax are kinda weak in how engaging they are (Pixar films do kind of have that weakness as well), but I still enjoyed the good stuff a ton and it gives a great message. And man, did Jane Lynch hit it out of the park with her performance. John C. Reilly was super lovable as well. I will definitely keep watching this one for a long time.

    I would love to see a sequel to Wreck it Ralph. Perhaps a collector purchases an old Fix it Felix cabinet and sets it up in his home, and the characters of Wreck it Ralph find the world where all the characters from Home console games are.
    Depending what save files he has or which games are in the consoles, multiple characters from multiple series can be seen entering and leaving through console portals. Then when the Fix it Felix is turned off, they have no access to the game world, and are trapped behind a barrier.

    • @Kiku91
      @Kiku91 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +EAPvideoz I've actually discussed this with friends and family about what their game world would be like, or how it would function with consoles and save files. Especially since unlike the arcade, the game isn't full restarted every time the game is accessed or played.
      The discussion ended with the thought that the save file would be like a play script, and when the player is selecting a game file, or choosing a level to replay the game pieces would quickly refresh so they know the location, their role, their stats, and what abilities or weapons they have access to, the lines during the cutscenes, and the purpose of the level.
      However, if the game is "turned off" I don't think it's like being unplugged. In the movie all the games were connected by the power belt/hub. Their respected cords and plugs acted as subway tunnels. So if they are off, but still plugged into a power belt with the other consoles, perhaps they can still access the hub. There might not be any power to the transportation, but they could still walk. Just a thought.

    At first Jane Lynches character's (I forget her name and I'm too lazy to look it up) backstory seems really funny but when you actually think about it, it's really dark. Cybugs are like a virus, and it's shown at throughout the movie that whatever they eat, they become. Lynch's husband was eaten by a cybug. Which means she had to fight and KILL a deformed rendition of her husband. That's right, a grotesque human bug hybrid. ON HER WEDDING DAY. And as a side note, the game she exists in is often pointed out for it's high definition and violence. Just let that sink in.
