    i know this video was uploaded 1.5 years ago, but i just wanted to say THANK YOU. I just replaced the thermal paste and thermal pads in my Aorus 3060ti and couldn't figure out why it was overheating 15 seconds into playing a game. Thought I wrecked my gpu and was going to have to buy a new one. Turns out I used 1mm thermal pads and the chip was no longer making contact with the heatsink because of it. found your video, replaced the pads with .5mm pads, and now my gpu is cooler than a snowman in the artic. you the man!

    For Aorus elite thermal pad size from gigabyte support;
    72mm x 6mm x 1mm for vrm
    67mm x 10mm x 1mm for vrm
    38mm x 13mm x 0,75mm x2 for vrams
    24,5 mm x 13 mm x 0,75 mm x1 for vrams

    Just replaced my Gigabye 3060 Ti Gaming OC which has a very similar PCB using this guide as a reference.
    Using Thermalright Extreme Odyssey Pads: 0.5mm for the front & back of VRAM, 1.0mm for the VRMs my improvements are as follows:
    (Core +100mhz, Memory +1000mhz, 104% TDP & 90° Temp)
    GPU Core temps are now < 70 degrees on load and the fans stays around 70-80% and doesn't rev up to 100% which is loud and annoying.
    Thank you for the video tutorial!

    I don't know if you fixed the issue or not, but on your Aorus elite the pads on the backplate could also be contributing to the mounting pressure on the gpu, I would retest with .5mm on the vram and nothing on the backplate.

    Thanks for the video. Would you say the Aorus is quieter than the Gaming (assuming same fan speed) or are they quite similar?

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quieter yes, but spins faster (85% at load). You actually have less headroom with Aorus.
      When these cards were getting this overheating issue, the gaming OC performed better although louder due to having more fan speed to spare.

    nice video, did you used all 0.5mm thermal pads or a mixture of both 0.5mm & 1mm pads?

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0.5mm pads for the VRAM and VRMs front side touching the heat sink.
      I reused the 1mm pads for the back of the PCB to contact with the backplate for more heat dissipation (and actually to reduce waste)

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I double checked.
      0.5mm pads for VRAM to heat sink
      1mm pads for VRM to heat sink
      added 1mm pads at the PCB back side to back plate
      My plan for the Aorus is to put 0.5mm pads for both VRAM and VRM (still haven't had the time to get back to it but I will soon)

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends.
      85-90C in GPU temps or GPU hot spot temps?
      If hot spot temps, it's near normal specially if inside a case.
      If GPU temps, it's not normal.
      Try to test in an open test bench (say on your motherboard box) as well. If it is a lot cooler on an open test bench, then it's your case. And if it is the same GPU temps (and not hot spot temps), it's not normal, try to return it to the seller.

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is within warranty, return to the retailer for repair.
      Otherwise, check the following:
      1. Are the fans spinning? Baka hindi so need ireplace.
      2. Heatsink contact: baka lumuwag na, try vertical mount or squeeze yung HS, or tighten the screws.
      3. Check GPU utilization. Sure ba na hindi under load? If may load sya kahit na wala kang games, check for virus baka may cryptominer. In this angle, pwede mo isalpak yung GPU sa ibang PC just to isolate. If sa ibang PC, normal behavior sya then I suggest to find the virus (nasa startup ito usually) or if willing to risk it all, reformat.
      4. At this point, nacheck na lahat: GPU has fans spinning, ok naman yung contact, squeezing the GPU does not affect the temps, wala ring virus, natry na isalpak sa PC at ganon pa rin. Ibig sabihin, di na maayos yung cooling. Needs cleaning / repasting na.

      2) email manufacturer for support (search sa website directly). Dipende sa manufacturer, pero merong pwede sila magbenta ng fan directly.

      Yes, you can. You can unplug the fan headers and it will look like an open-faced sandwich and then you can remove the heat sink from the shroud for deeper clean.
