    Love how he didn't have the strength to resist the programming until his family was threatened...then the human condition took over, told the programming to fuck off, and shot the sonofabitch that was threatening his family.
    Nice touch, the power of love overcomes boundaries.

    • @CarlosCruz-mw4hp
      @CarlosCruz-mw4hp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      That’s a good analogy.
      I took it more like he found a loophole in the programming. As Mattox was among at Murphy, he’s threatening deadly physical force against a product. But once he pointed at his family he had to convince the programming Mattox was threatening deadly physical force against non hostile innocent civilians. Of course after shooting Mattox since he’s a red asset system shuts down.
      But your analogy is better as he was shown getting his dopamine levels back to normal.

      @DoremiFasolatido1979 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sergeantassassin3425 That's not at all accurate. What would really fuck with the programming is the fact that the machine would never properly understand what Murphy was targeting. It would never be able to know if he's targeting a red asset.
      The only way around it would be an extra failsafe that prohibited him from attacking anything at all in the vicinity, or behind, a red asset. Then, there would have to be yet another failsafe that paid attention to only two parts of the brain, to determine whether something is a deceitful thought, or not...so that Murphy wouldn't be able to imagine a Red asset as "not one". The human brain is absolutely a biological computer, but it's an analog computer, not a digital one. We can build a normal computer to talk to it and understand it...but it's never going to be without error. They're simply not compatible.
      Love is irrelevant except that the computer wouldn't be able to deal with all the weird signals coming out of those kinds of emotions. There are tons of ways around Murphy's programming blocks.

      I don't know. The original movie sold it more for me of a human being put into a machine, and finding his humanity again. Joel Kinnamin did his best with this script, but the fact they kept his hand, and it just always looked like a man "inside a suit of armor" similar to Ironman took me out of it.
      Seeing Murphy take off his Helmet in the OG movie was crazy and sold it that he was truly a cyborg as the flesh had it's limits, and you could see where it ended, where as in this film, it just looks like a guy wearing a helmet, and if you took it off you could see that he had a full head in there.
      Just my opinion. This movie is enjoyable, but doesn't strike the emotional stuff the original did, I feel like it could have, but it was a missed opportunity

      @@lodoughertyRoboCop 1987 is a story of a man put into a machine and stripped of his humanity, and then dealing with the fact that he _was_ human before becoming a cyborg.
      RoboCop 2014 is about a man put into a machine while keeping his humanity and free will, but slowly having both taken away without realizing it.
      RoboCop 1987 is also a story about Reaganomics, consumerism, and "does violence breed violence."
      RoboCop 2014 is basically the 'War on Terror' taken to 11 and dropped into the USA. It's also about things like "is a machine responsible for killing a human, or is the person controlling that machine the one responsible?" That's most likely the reason Murphy still has an organic hand, so the public feels okay that he's pulling the trigger.

      In a world like that, and this one, where a corporation worth billions can just grease the right wheels with enough money and "problems" just go away? Yeah. He could murder an entire family in cold blood, and everything would be brushed under a rug and forgotten. If you have the right political beliefs, all the better. You can burn down federal courthouses without facing any charges, while a few broken windows will get your political enemies held without charge for 18+ months, only to face either no charges or misdemeanor charges that would amount to no more than 1 week in jail or a $1,000 fine. And a day named after it.

    It looks like he's in armor and he doesn't act like a cyborg at all, just a dude in a suit. The first movie put way more thought into the design seeing as he was basically a brain and front half of a face he would need something to replace his vocal folds when speaking. The suit looks good though, really like the layering and design. I know "gore doesn't matter" but the old school practical effects are sorely missed, the squibs and Emil "Toxic Waste" Antonowsky are so visually striking that I can't help but think of them when watching this. It's not the gore necessarily, but I love practical effects from an artistic standpoint and really respect the craft of creating something that makes normies uncomfortable, think Brundlefly. Overall it's a cool scifi movie, but Robocop blows its dick off.

    • @chamoo232
      @chamoo232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Peter Weller did an amazing job in the suit. He worked for weeks developing a way to move that took inspirations from birds but then on the first day of shooting when he first tried the suit he realized he couldn't move at all like he planned. he convinced production to take a break, got his movement coach on set and they modified the suit and created a new way to move it in. Simple things like walking straight then turning his head in a sharp move in the direction he's planning to turn and then turn his entire body really breaks the idea that it's a guy in a suit. The remake doesn't have much of that.

    • @generalilbis
      @generalilbis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose the people behind this version of RoboCop decided to merge Ronny Cox's Dick Jones - who was actually behind engineering Murphy's "death" to allow for the RoboCop project to go forward in the OG film but in a direction he was dictating - and Daniel O'Herlihy's OCP Chairman. Keaton's character of Sellars seems to want to keep the reality of what was done to Murphy quiet and use him as proof of being able to create a cop that always follows orders but is adaptable.

      Its a tie in to the original, where basically all thats left is the brain. Little more here left over though, but nothing too much. The idea is that here, more than the original, is a discussion around whether or not Murphy is a cyborg, or just along for the ride. Even in the training sequence we are told that the computer makes the deicisons, he just THINKS hes making the decisions, which is why he can make split second decisions faster than humans.
      The villain is wrong in that Robocop is a robot because Murphy isnt just along for the ride, but that was the intention. Robocop was supposed to only have the FACE of a real person, but both the new one and the original proved them all wrong and rose about their basic purposes.
      There is something to be said about the idea that humans are just organic machines, with organic computers taking over and I think the general philosophy behind robocop is that we arent too disimilar from robots, but that its our ability to "rise above our programming" that ultimately makes the difference between robots and humans.

      I liked this movie... for what it was. I never expected it to be like the original, at all. Even so, I agree that something akin to "you're fired...... thank you" would have been a nice touch, along with a few other call backs to the original. Not word for word, but some general ideas that were clearly direct story beat call backs.

    One of the worst things they did was re-cast robocop. This should have been a sequel, instead of a reboot. Peter Weller is Robocop.
    Plus, they don’t need a young actor to be believable. Could have Peter Seller’s face on any robocop chi body for the more intense scenes. Also, it’s not like Murphy wouldn’t age.

      The explanation is that it is Murphy's dominant hand and since it was not damaged, it was more than obvious that it was integrated into the rest of his robotic body. The only inconsistency I see is that it is exposed, the best thing would have been to add a glove with armor to protect his best hand as much as possible.
