RoboCain it's one of the most badass and amazing stop-motion character of contemporary cinema. Tippett did a legendary works with him, worthy heir of Harryhausen. Kershner direction was on point, but the real problem was the screenplay.

I thought direction was off tbh. Strayed too far into the cartoon vibe and away from the gritty realism of the first, and Verhoeven realised early on that you need to have very specific camera angles to avoid Robo looking 'shonky', too many times in the sequel Robo looks like a clown in a clunky suit.

Stop motion era is the best
It actually adds to the scariness, and creepiness of the robots; I love it.

I think Faxx's anger stemmed from a deleted scene where we see RoboCop actually discover that Cain was the new subject for the RoboCop 2 project in Faxx's lab and she advised him he was obsolete when he made the discovery with Lewis.

0:52 so, I just realized, much like ED 209, Robocain has an activation background "hum', much more discrete than ED's. What's interesting, is that he is already powered on, yet his noise only starts after noticing the Nuke, like it actually awoke him.
The quality here is just amazing

I Saw this film opening weekend.. What gets me is that RoboCop II (Cain) take 7-8 targeted shots from the Cobra Assault Rife and keeps on going un-phase.. ED209 take 1 shot, it is basically busted.. 2nd shot, ED is crumbs to be swept up.. I wonder what was the armor upgrade that was given to take that kind of punishment like a tank.. but light enough to move swiftly like a ninja ?
ED209 was built down to a price, for mass production.
RoboCop & RoboCain were both one-off prototypes

Its like, for every 1 good idea in this movie had there were at least 3 glaring bad ones to override it. This movie was such a mis-fire, especially when they didn't give it to Paul Verhoeven to direct either.
And the less said about Robocop 3 the better 😕

Maybe because they wanted him to move quickly to seem much more dangerous. An animatronic would probably move too slowly
He is real in some scenes, mostly during the close up shots when Murphy is on his back
Too expensive, too immobile to perform the things the script asked for. A few parts were built at full size to interact with other characters and for closeups.
