Great ride on this video, makes me want to plan a trip on the Kokopelli trail. what beautiful scenery. Love the positive attitude. Thanks again, and I'm positive we all appreciate the hard work.
I had a similar reaction to riding Onion Creek, it's a magical place. Good thing the route isn't difficult through there, so much beautiful scenery to keep a person distracted.
Exactly, although I wonder with a little rain if the difficulty level might change. I wouldn't mind going through there when the water crossings we're a foot deep it so.
Great job on the video and wow what scenery. Definitely on the bucket list. 😮 BMW that's a big boy right there hundred pounds more than the 890. Looking forward to the next video
Thanks and yeah the beemer is definitely a different animal. It's going to be for two up with my better half. We plan on retiring in a few years and spending a few years hitting all of north and south America.
Well, another GREAT video, the towers along Onion Creek (Fisher Towers) have been climbed, the first time, recorded in a National Geographic Magazine back in the day. When crossing the Colorado River, the old steel towers in the background are what's left of the old Dewey Bridge, the only bridge back in the late 70s when I first went through there, super narrow, pickup trucks had fold their mirrors in flat to get across. Kids playing with fire started a grass fire that caught the bridge and it just burned completely, sad day. It's wonderful setting at my computer riding on TH-cam and Google Earth some of these fantastic roads I missed back in my day. Utah is like Peru, the more you learn about it, the more amazing it becomes...cheers
Well mark, I feel like I'm going to need to call you before my next trip to get the low down. I actually inhereted an almost complete set of every national geographic magazine, so the search begins for that article. Hearing about the old Dewey bridge history reminds me I'm going to fast sometimes to try and stay on schedule.
@@localrouteadv Nat Geo Mag November 1962. The Dewey bridge was a work of wood and steel art... The first time for me, we were cruising north from Moab taking in that scenic byway along the river on a collection of Japanese bikes when two dudes on a hog came roaring past us. When we reached the bridge, there they were all over the ground at the far end, they had gone down on some loose pea gravel. We picked up the hog and I rode it up where it was level and they, with their ripped out crotches, hobbled up there and got on their way. Once they were gone, the gals cracked up... If you do a Google search of "The Grand Circle" which is basically the region surrounding Lake Powell out to about a hundred miles, you'll find the largest concentration of National Parks, monuments and what not in the USA. One can do the complete circle twice on pavement and always be on different roads, but when you include dirt and trails, it's almost endless. The Moab area, of course, is the "Crown Jewel", but the entire loop is cram packed with more to see and do, than a lifetime would allow. The study of western history is super important, it's terrible to be somewhere "uninteresting" only to find out later what took place there. I only had paper maps back in my time, and now with Google Earth/Maps, I get to see things I was close to but missed, and of course with TH-cam I've ridden the whole world...cheers.
Love the video series; just the right blend of riding, scenery and narration. I also have a 790R and 1250GSA and love them both. I don't yet have the gumption to take the 1250 on a BDR but I've ridden SOCAL, Utah, Wyoming and Washington and the 790R has been amazing. I'm going to hit the new Oregon route this summer the 790 and I'm tempted to give Idaho a shot on the 1250 since folks seem to agree it's one of the easier routes. I'll be curious to see how/when you select the KTM vs. BMW. Enjoy the ride my friend.
Thanks so much. I appreciate that. I hear you on the 1250 gs! I am still amazed how light it feels once moving. I am game to try anything once. Maybe not solo. lol The bike choice will be pretty easy though. The GS is for mainly 2 up and touring. The 890 is for everything else. Well except the dirt bike stuff. But the wife and I will be attempting some light off-road as well. Should be interesting.
@@localrouteadv I rode the IDBDR in Sept 2022 from Canada South to Lowman on my 2013 1200GS. We camped five nights and 2 motels. It’s a great route and is manageable on the GS for a half descent rider and have a good tire choice. Motoz Tractionator Adventure or RallZ or similar worked well. We had 7 riders.
@Local Route ADV nice. I'd love to know! Since I always ride with Koty, I put a purple panda by my right speaker from the sena, and and another by the sena mic with a splitter and hooked it to the media mod. It's pretty decent (see mabdr playlist) but scratchy and noisy at hwy speed

It’s criminal how few subs you have. I found your channel while looking for inspiration for my own adventures. Thanks so much for putting these together. I’m sure it’s a ton of work. Can I ask what navigation app you are using?
Well that is very nice to hear. Thank you. I only had 70 subscribers in December, so I feel ok with the growth. And yes it is like 12-15 hours of editing to make a 20 minute video. Hah. A labor of love at this point. As for navigation, I bought a $40 burner phone on eBay moto g7 power and I have the paid version of Gaia. There are other apps that are easier to learn, but I just haven't found one so in depth. And once you learn it, it's gold. Build all my routes on my laptop and they sink to the phone. Then put it in airplane mode and been using that for over two years now.
That's the million dollar question isn't it? In all honesty, 5% of the time in the deep sand I wanted a 690/701. But the comfort, power and smoothness of the 890 the other 95% of the time is worh the struggle for the 5%. In those hard moments you always are ready to sell the farm. Lol
