I agree with you on the heat cycles to unstick rings. And with no cooling it will happen much faster. It looks like you are getting results already. Damn that V12 is going to be so cool by the time you are finished. 😊
@Dave Iauco you obviously have never owned a 100 year old engine and had to get the rings unstuck You sound like a typical know it all keyboard warrior troll at best and also that waterpimp is serviceable and has grease fittings and press in bearings and does not need coolant for the pump itself
@Dave Iauco just as I am speaking from experience I dont need to be schooled or educated on the subject since I have been doing this myself for 30plus years and that is a flat or t head style engine so it isnt 40 or 50 years old its 75 plus years old. Lycoming has not been in business since prior to ww2

I LOVE JONATHAN W - he is far more likable - interesting - informative - creative - with his builds than any other old car or motor powered channel. I hate old storytellers and their need to constantly bemuse with their halcyon recollections and having a collection of old duffers hanging around just to be on TH-cam or have their channels promoted. They also feel a need to have a rock ` n roll - hillbilly - Plinky twangy banjo music over-riding the videos. Jonathan has an opening soundtrack - and then it ends. All you see and hear is him and voice, as he explains what it is he's doing, and why. There is no puffed-up ego or a setting within a garage, barn museum-like setting chocked full of antiques, signage, petroleum-related collectibles, and six other old cars in the background. Some of you may have issues with how Jonathan does things - too bad. He is his own man and if you don't like what you see, then quit watching. I watch it to LEARN. I LOVE to meet Jonathan one day. NO one else - just him.

The Roadster-Pickup will look sweet with running boards and fenders. The stance and proportions of the T Bucket with the V6 looks good. That will make a nice car once you finish it.

I will be the first to admit I have never started an engine outside a car and run it for more than a couple of minutes. I have watched you do it so many times since subscribed to your channel and none of them burned up, threw a rod, seized or seemed to be damaged by doing it. I usually know what I don't know, lots of people don't, I am always amazed at how many you start that I would have thought would never have had a chance. Further proof that I don't know nearly as much as you about that, too bad that more people like me should just stand back and let someone who knows do his stuff. Great work as usual.
Lived only 20 miles from Lycoming Engine plant where my x father in law was an engineer on there builds. Brilliant gentalman. He helped develope the variable valve train many years ago among other things. Johnathan makes things live again, YEA!
Those fenders were meant for the pickup roadster. They looking very fitting under that Swan. Again thank you so much for the ending you use. That little 5 window really does something for me . Knowing what it started as just adds to the admiration. Stay healthy!
THANK YOU, All good stuff. Yes fenders help make the shape. Understand the V12 was cooled down but it is still weird not to have water cooling. It sounds pretty darn nice. The V6 looks great. I really want to try to do a V6 Hydro into in MiniBlazer body. Lowered. You took that break to do the diesel engine swap and it seemed to reenergize us all. Back in '67 I bought a '40 Ford 5 window for $50. If I got caught at a light I had to shut it off, smoked so bad you couldn't see when the light changed. LOL Could not get the heads off that flathead so I sold it. Sure wish I had it now. Good job on the heat cycle ring repair. Thanks for sharing.
Back in the early 70s I drove an American LaFrance fire truck with the V-12 gas engine. It was a beast to say the least. OTOH, it was a gas engine in a truck that was pushing 28,000 pounds, but we really had nothing else to compare it with in those days. All of our other trucks were gas V-8s so quite a difference.
Just wanted to pass this on. It's on the American LaFrance engine you are working on. Hope it will help you. Love your channel and videos. I am amazed at your builds and the rare equipment you are able to find. You are terrific craftsman.
Good reasoning on the "no cooling system". You have your reasons. Would be easy to make a radiator stand for the times you want to run an engine for a long time for testing, whatnot. A frame with wheels on the bottom so it won't tip over and an electric fan to blow through it as necessary. And some long hoses so you could move it where you want it. Keep on 'er, Jonathan! Always lots of cool stuff at Jonathan's house!.
Great way to loosen up stuck internal parts by heat cycling what you do. Don't worry about the negative comments. I have been watching your video's for years and you know your engine stuff. Video's are a pleasure to watch and to learn from as well. Cheers !

Awesome project! We had giant 5000 lb 200hp gas Liberty Engines in old boats worth a fortune from 1920s . Salt water ate most up. Now a collectable worth a fortune. Look up "Napier Deltec engine"... Most amazing engine ever made. Used in 1978 NYC Super pumper fire truck and UK Rail road locomotive s. Ps I use Synthetic two stroke oil in crankcase in old Motors...no blue smoke no fouled plugs. Lasted for two years still running. Aircraft engine oil also no blue smoke. Expensive but ok for occasional use.

That big V-12 would look great in a COE (Ford or GMC). On the other new car, that looks to be a Packard Cormorant radiator cap possibly for the '30s. Great show and thanks for posting Jonathan.

I was thinking about the way you was heating it up and cooling it down even before you said you was doing it to try to get the rings unstuck. I've bought plenty of engines from the wrecking yard and had to do that with some of them. Don't know what you paid for all them parts but sometimes you've got to get them when you come across them. Really good video. Might have about a week of good weather so maybe you'll be able to get some more done on your little pickup. Thanks again for your time.

Hi Jonathan, sure glad to see an update on the roadster pickup, I love your choice on the front fenders, if you have some rear fenders that come near them, it will really finish off the styling. I think that stretched chassis on the trailer will make a great bed for the American LaFrance V-12. Good Grief, I just saw a thumbnail for a Rat Rod show in Las Vegas that was showing a VW Bug with a front mounted V-8 and thought "how would that look with the LaFrance V-12? Jonathan, I've watched so many of your videos by now, I feel like I know you. I know you wouldn't run an engine for long periods of time without coolant. (Unless to state it). I trust you... I'm beginning to believe you can cure a rainy day!! As a matter of fact, YOU HAVE!!!!! On those rainy days, I watch your pre-released videos and I cheer right up! Keep on doing what your doing, STAY HEALTHY!!! (oh, I'm telling you how to live?) You're temperature cycling the engine. Gotcha.
Gary ... that stretch chassis is where the V-12 belongs. Just add some other stretched body parts and presto! (I'm sure he can pull that off in a few weeks with what he has on hand)

Well the truth is anyone who disagrees doesn't know much about how thermal expansion works. If done this numerous times on motors to loosen rings up

Wow, does it sound as good in person as it does on my computer? That is going to be a neat build...and the straight eight too! Please, what could be better? Even that T-Frame with the stuff just tossed in it looks good. Jonathan, you are a metal artist - folks art one could say...that one can drive. Stay well! Hi Jonathan, sure glad to see an update on the roadster pickup, I love your choice on the front fenders, if you have some rear fenders that come near them, it will really finish off the styling. I think that stretched chassis on the trailer will make a great bed for the American LaFrance V-12. Good Grief, I just saw a thumbnail for a Rat Rod show in Las Vegas that was showing a VW Bug with a front mounted V-8 and thought "how would that look with the LaFrance V-12? That V12 is cool but it looks like she is burning some oil she sure is smoky lol!! but it runs like a clock these NOS zenith carbs are awesome too.
Love the full fender look on the straight eight and the T set up with the V 6 is cute too! Great progress and fun to watch.

Yes, full fenders is just what the roadster pickup needs! That will look awesome! The ALF engine isn't running too bad, and great score on the carburetors!
Excellent picture and message plus videos Johnathon :) love seen that V12 run and carbs useing to are on fire trucks The Bickle Seagrave my used had 1000CFM Holley carb 2 chokes each on each 4bbl with 2 carbs on V12 and funny how get started when explain on previous video !
Jonathan, I've watched so many of your videos by now, I feel like I know you. I know you wouldn't run an engine for long periods of time without coolant. (Unless to state it). I trust you... I'm beginning to believe you can cure a rainy day!!

Gary ... that stretch chassis is where the V-12 belongs. Just add some other stretched body parts and presto! (I'm sure he can pull that off in a few weeks with what he has on hand)
@@rupe53 I was thinking that stretch chassis would be a good bed for "Francie" too, Oh,Wow I think I may have just given the American LaFrance V-12 engine a name (I hope Jonathan likes it....Lol).

That v12 runs nicer and nicer I was a little skeptical at first about it smoking but I understood what you was doing. The fenders are going to look really good on the roadster pick up I really like that idea! As always great videos! I look forward to each one and I always learn something, you sir are an inspiration to me and I love making stuff out of junk and scrap.
