  • First video clips we captured of the new Bornean baby Orangutan at Blackpool Zoo
This video shows the First-Time Orangutan Mother Rocking and Patting her new baby affectionately
He is the first orangutan baby to be born at the zoo in 20 years
The newborn baby is a critically endangered bornean orangutan born to first time Orangutan mother Jingga
TH-cam sensation Jingga has had social media fame before when a video featuring her went viral back in 2015 - viral video - monkey sees a magic trick
The video was filmed of her in her previous home Barcelona Zoo in Spain
Jingga move to her new home Blackpool Zoo in 2017 to join her new Blackpool Orangutan family as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP)
14 year old Jingga was born in Barcelona in 2009 to mother Jawi and Father Karl
Now Jingga is settled at Blackpool zoo and has given birth for the first time to the tiny baby boy orangutan which has yet to be named
The father of the newborn baby orangutan is 13 year old Kawan who has recently moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands and was an instant hit with the resident female orangutans Cherie Summer and Jingga
He came to the zoo as part of the European Endangered Species program after his much loved predecessor Ramon was moved to a new group in Germany where he has just become a new father himself
Kawan was specially selected by experts to join the female group at Blackpool Zoo and has settled into his new role as alpha male orangutan very well
    Enjoy this #animal video
New Mother Orangutan Rocking And Patting Her New Baby
We have recently added Blackpool Zoo to our list of zoos that we will be frequently visiting to film the apes, so watch out for more footage of this fantastic zoo. Blackpool has Gorillas and Bornean Orangutans and we were really impressed with both areas.
There are currently 5 Bornean Orangutans in one family group at Blackpool Zoo consisting of adult females Cherie Summer and Jingga
Alpha Male Kawan and the new male baby orangutan

There is definitely something wrong. Could be starving, could broken arm(s) from being dragged around, could be head trauma. I don't think the mother intends harm, but she and the baby need help.

Yes def wrong there. And orangutans forage all day for fruits not sitting in the ground eating hay. Not normal and sad that more care isn’t being taken when this may be a way to help populate an increasingly endangered species I the wild.

usually when you see an inexperianced mother patting and rocking the baby like that is because it's crying, which is a shrill cry, and she doesn't know what else to do. She doesn't have mothering instincts to hold it close and let it feed till it's full and satisfied. The times that I've seen that happen the zoo will usually step in right away and find a way to help the mother. She can easily cause injury by patting him too hard on his head.

2:40 Here, baby's hair is standing up because she's freezing 🥶 cold❄️. You can see 👀 the goosebumps on her scalp. Because Mom's not 🚫 allowing her to cling, she can't get warm 🥵 and is burning more calories than it appears she's taking in. Baby is not 🚫 very active at all and her body seems weak and on the extremely thin side! God bless her heart 💜

This is very sad to see. Maybe they gave Jingga a doll to practise with before she had the baby, and was rewarded for 'patting' it. I'm hoping that a more recent video will show an improvemen, because right now she hasn'ta clue, and the baby is deprived. I also wish there was some communication from the zoo. Alot if people are understandably concerned, and it would help to get some input from the team looking after them. Also, what is the connection between apetracker and the zoo, if there is one. Anyway, one hopes for the best of course.

I love the videos that you put up. However I could not even watch this whole video. That baby is definitely malnourished. I am familiar with the bonding time needed but that baby is going to die without intervention. They need to step in and take over for the baby until it is bigger and stronger then re introduce to the mom. Jinga is doing her best it's just not enough and I am not sure what the purpose of your video is. Is it to make people aware of the dire situation? or to show a starving baby orangutan? Any person seeing this can tell that the baby is bones, I am in the US but someone over there needs to take control or that poor baby is going to die. I am sorry to be blunt but this is too sad to even watch. JInga is great but she needs HELP with her little one. Anyone with anyone influence or power with the zoo needs to step in if the zoo is ignoring the situation.

In reference to other infant orangutans that are 2 months and 16 days, this baby looks dehydrated and with not good color. They can be reunited only if the baby lives. This is not a play thing for the first time mom and zoos, while they may want to keep things "natural" and with mom, has the duty to protect the life of this baby.
