In 1998, the Swedish city of Gothenburg experienced a horrible event. 63 high school students died in a discothèque fire, an arson. Swedish radio cleared all music from its youth channel, and this was the first song they played that morning after the fire.
Probably one of the most empathetically emotive, aeolian cadences of sound I've ever heard. It marks the end of the 90s for me. The parlance of the times. Happier times. A monument to the ghosts of reflections of mundanity, life; echoes of the past. Whining eerily; melancholic whispers and moans of a decade and memories past which come back occasionally in our quieter fleeting moments which largely lay now abandoned in the memory libraries of volumes now defunct.
Same here, Choco! I really liked the movie, but my main concern afterwards was, "What was that beautiful song that was playing while the characters were on the bus seeking the bigtime?"
I´m 20 years old and I don´t know what a fuck is doing the music of our days ... this 90s music have more quality expresive than even other exist in present , thanks for exist fantastic old music !
This was one of those obscure songs that came to me exactly when it needed to. I understood the message instantly, like a diamond shot into my forehead. This gorgeous haunting gem has stuck with me ever since. The video using shots from "the red baloon" couldnt have been more on the nose.
Just remember the day I saw them in Aberdeen, just after one of the most exciting band i.e. The Flaming Lips. It is still today one of my most beautifull musical live experience . Just beautifull
jonathon gets groovier with age.... the 6Music interview with Lauren before this gig was so warm and open. Him and Grasshopper are an incredible duo and The Light in You an excellent return to music making. Just started listening to the previous album Snowflake Midnight (the one no one listened to.....) that too is amazing.
Aaahh this is a better version than the other on a different site where they did a live (concert ) version of this song ,Ovilously" they did years before.Call me. tech or studio junkie .I always like the studio version songs to live .I know all you muso's will.say prefabrication it's not the real thing " you CAN'T beat live concerts .as I said many a times very few artist or bands can pull off live .

1998: the year Mercury Rev was the best band in the world.
together with Radiohead.
Darn right. Then 1999 was the Flaming Lips.
@@patriciomartinotti5694 Wish I could have seen RH in the 90s
@@jasonmuhsmann5670 Then 2000 was Sigur Ros
@@jasonmuhsmann5670Deserters Songs and The Soft Bulletin are very closly related.
Sing 2 brought me here. This is the best song in that animated film by far.

Definitely one of the the most hauntingly beautiful songs to come out of the late 90s. It still hits me in the feels.
Permanently in my top 10 songs of all time.
Since end of 90's years I felt my heart blowing when I heard this song. One of the most powerful cadences I ever heard.
The world is a better place because of Mercury Rev.
simply the most beautiful song in human history
this song makes me cry every time I hear it, am I the only one?
No
How can you not cry hearing him sing ‘that big blue open sea’ ?
Yes. you are weird maybe. Ahah

Rogério NDJr That movie brought me here also. A terrific movie; a fabulous song.
FOREVER MERCURY REV..........

I've put Mercury Rev - Holes up there with Pink Floyd's - The Great Gig In The Sky.
My word for this song is SUBLIME. What's yours?
I add "Damage Is Done" by Konklins. Watch the Kubrick video. Amazing too!
Whoa that is exactly where i would put it

Exceptional times...still!
Sublime
Always amazing.
ADOREI O CONCERTO NO PRIMAVERA SOUND 2014
Huge fan since the 1990s, they are the American Floyd more that Flaming Lips, and I love all 3 bands
I had the treat of seeing Rev in DC during '15 tour. I stood 5 feet from Grasshopper with only about 300 fans.
There’s a connection between the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, of course.
Chanced upon this hauntingly beautiful song on Spotify. This is so fucking good!
always great
Great Album! The Benicassim show in 99 was ethereal
I wish they'd make another album like deserter's songs
outstanding
Visto concerto sabato scorso all'Anfiteatro del Venda, Galzignano (Italy). Fantastico!
C'ero... indimenticabile!
Sing 2
Pretty good
Telephones for eyes. When I heard that line the first time, I saw rotary phone eyes. Now people have telephones for eyes.

Only thumbs up ? That still exists on YT ? Blasting !
Come on, one more thumb up then... and death to the one daring to put a thumb down !
Aimee Mann's Wise Up for those who like this.
The scene in the wonderful film "Magnolia", when most of the cast sing this is so powerful.
Oh yeah...
Fucking beautiful song.
that is a crazy moshpit
Música
Come on to meet you tell me your history...;)
Kawaii.
I prefer the Jools Holland epic live version BUT... "this is gold Jerry, gold!!"
Konson Heb gold, Jerry Gold. love that you’re a Seinfelder :)
"What's the deal with holes?"
Paraorchestra brought me here.
Fuck me its a tune
Strange that far less talented acts get way more radio air play.
Grasshopper comes across as smug, self satisfied, and to rather pleased with himself here. Ugg.
Not as good as on the record. I could listen to this song all day long for weeks. 😊😊
Three human beings has no sensitivity to good music...
Outstanding
