  • Why I switched to Dutch Cinch Buckles from Kammok Python Straps as my primary hammock suspension system. www.sintax77.com
    Cinch Buckle Hammock Suspension System:
    2 Dutch Clips
    2 Dutch cinch Buckles
    2 15 foot 1 inch webbing straps
    2 7/64" Amsteel loops for connection to Hennessy Hammock (Dutch sells slightly longer loops for use with Hennessy Hammocks or shorter ones for all others, so make sure to choose accordingly)
    Total Weight: 10.5 ounces
    Kammock Python Straps Hammock Suspension System:
    2 10 foot Kammock Python Straps
    2 Black Diamond Neutrino Climbing Carabiners
    Total Weight: 14.5 ounces

    So after spending my kids college education on hammock suspension experiments, I finally settled on the "cinch buckle" system as well. They are 12 & 14 and we are hanging Clark 250 hammocks. Using the "cinch buckles", "Dutch clips", and Dutchware "Wasps" for all guide lines....the boys are now able to setup their own hammocks and I do final adjustments. It is the fastest setup and kids being able to do it....says it all. Finally I am done with the experimenting!!

    You've inspired me...I think I'm going to spring for the hammock and cinch buckle system you use. I've been on the fence with getting a hammock for some time now. Seems like you cant go wrong with this system--its neat and organized, fast to set up, isnt bulky or heavy.
    I love all your videos. Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures and keep up the good work!

      I'll be posting a video of my new hammock later this week - you may want to check that out before deciding on one, it's pretty nice from what I can tell so far, and comes atandard with choice of cinch buckles or whoopies.

    I have been using them for awhile and even created my own pair. There are some good videos on TH-cam that make it easy to DIY. It takes a leap of faith to get in the hammock the first time as it is hard to believe they will hold but they are quite strong.

    Hi Sintax, really enjoy your site and have learned a lot.... though my wife said it is costing her lots of cash. Speaking of that, I just up graded my original Hennessy suspension to the Dutchwear Cinch Buckle system and went outside to try it. I must say you were right, it made setting up my hammock so much faster and easier to adjust for comfort. I love it! Hurry up with more video's, I'm having withdrawals.

    I have that same setup! Super easy to adjust. I was on a hike and at the end of the day was really tired and not paying attention. When I wrapped the hook around and some how I didn't get it all the way in the hook end. When I layed in my hammock about 10 minutes in I heard a pop but didn't know what it was. I went to sleep and the next day when taking down my hammock I saw what it was. The end of the hook popes through my strap and damaged it pretty bad. I wound up cutting the strap the next night and just tieing a knot for the hook end and it worked. But lesson learned. Pay attention!!!

    Thanks for the video, I'm new to dutch products, but I'm loving them. Dutch is definitely on the top of my list and I'll be more then happy to order from him again, there was a huge mix up with the post office and I never received my products, dutch was quick to take care of me and sent me a new order.

    I recently switched from an Eno hammock with the kammock straps to a blackbird XLC with the cinch buckle system. While I still need to order the dutch clip, the flexibility of use is amazing. It seems so much faster and easier to get the right sag with the cinch buckle than with the kammock straps.

    Great video. Good explanations. I settled on a similar system and can't wait to use it this year, the only difference is that I'm using Black Diamond Neutrinos instead of Dutch Clips. The great thing about using carabiners or Dutch clips is that it keeps the Nylon from chewing through itself!

    New hammock? Guessing by your earlier comment of choosing between a strap or whoopie sling system when purchasing your hammock, is it a Warbonnet? I would really like to see what your thoughts are either way, great videos

  • @nickrct
    @nickrct 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    What are the advantages of this system over using pair of rappell rings? I use two omega pacific rings on each strap tied to a climbing carabiner with stock Hennessy cordage (total weight 12.25 oz). Setup is super fast (about a minute) and easy with the rings, though I admit this system is a few oz lighter. Mine was setup exactly like this
    hennessy hammock ultra fast set up technique, easy, adjustable and great tension!
    Love your videos by the way

  • @dmw1983

    So taking into account the 5 oz. saved from removing the original Hennessy rope, your new suspension system actually saves more like 9 oz. That sound right?

    Are the python straps better than the ENO Slap Straps? Also since you like doing charts on all your gear for trips and finding out the weights and everything check out the Gram Weenie App. I just downloaded it and its awesome. You can create an inventory of all of your gear with weights(grams or ounces). Then you can create trips and select the gear from your inventory to create your loadout. It separates from base weight/consumables as well as what your wearing/carrying.

    Thanks for the information. I ordered a system for my Hennessy Hammock and I've just received my package from Dutch. Where do you normally attach the fly - the cordage that Hennessy provides has a prusik knot to attach the standard rain fly - where do you suggest attaching that? Also how do they cinch clips operate with the snake skins - I'm big on a quick set up and quick take down so I don't want to lose the snake skins.

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug Gordon I switched over to keeping my tarp in it's own snake skins and tying it directly to the tree, separate from the hammock, a while back and really enjoy using it that way now. It reduces sag and allows for higher configurations for standing under it. It took me a while to convince myself to make the switch, but I'm glad I did.
      As for the hammock itself, I just stuff it in a regular stuff sack with the end of the suspension lines right at the top - setup is still very quick. Double ended stuff sacks are awesome as well. I find the more important item for snake skins to be the tarp now days.

    I have been using the strap/buckle setup for awhile and I love the weight and ease of use. Do you use a continuous ridgeline with your hex tarp? If so, do you put the tarp over the ridgeline or under? Just curious. Great vid helpful

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may experiment with a CRL in the future, but for now I enjoy simply running individual lines with Dutch Wasps off each end of the tarp. Setup and takedown is pretty smooth.

      I use the over on good weather and under when it's raining. They both work well.

  • @MrJowee

    I prefer straps over whoopee slings. (BLASPHEMY!) I find straps easier to adjust and just a simpler setup. They are a little more bulky though, and I guess they are maybe a few ounces heavier. But it's extra weight that I'm willing to carry for the convenience. I recently went the cheap route and made a set of buckles for a friend. The cinch buckles are like $5 for a pair, and I had the Amsteel already to make continuous loops. My setup is similar, but I use strap buckles instead of cinch buckles. These also work as a de facto water break.

  • @brians4496
    @brians4496 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I want to replace the suspension ropes on my Hennessy and I'm considering this system. Have you had any issues with these buckles slipping or twisting? Is this still the system that you would recommend? Thanks for your help, and for all the information in your videos.

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've use a lot different systems since making this video, but the cinch buckles seen here are probably my most commonly used go-to system. They still work great, are relatively inexpensive and are very simple to use. If you want to get fancier and spend a couple more bucks, they also have an even lighter titanium system that works well too.

      +Charles “Clinch” Lynch Actually if your using a hennessy hammock your rainfly is separate but be sure that when you switch out the stock line for the "continuous loop" from dutch that you run the new loop THROUGH the hoop for the RIDGELINE. Itll be self explanatory and very obvious to you once you open it up and take a look but do not forget this little step.

    What about just doing knots? I am interested to upgrade from my HH hyperlight that is getting old. Looking into a Darien but am confused about the hang system to go for.

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can totally do knots. In fact that's exactly the system that my Hennessy hammock came stock with. Personally, I found it to a bit to time consuming, especially if re-adjustments were needed. If you're looking to get a Darien and are interested in a lighter, yet simple alternative to the straps, I would recommend the whoopie sling add on directly from Dream Hammoock, or a pair of whoopie hooks from Dutchware (that's what I currently use). They're not quite as fast to fine tune as the straps, but they offer far lighter weight and volume and are dead simple. Either way, I'd say you'd be just fine with either the straps or whoopies, which are both available as add-ons to the Darien.

    • @bionautic
      @bionautic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the suggestions, how does the Darien compare to the Hennessey HL in interior space & weight? Geez my choice is getting more difficult to make, I found some good reviews for the warbonnet blackbird. Any experience on that model you could share?

      It really depends on you, are you trying to lighten your load out or the weight isn't an issue. I done most straps. I settled with whoopies 1" nylon strap and a marlon spike. For me it's about cutting my base weight down, currently at 15lbs base.
