    In this video, I try to explain, why how Blender and Plasticity are similar but different and each have a use case, and how its all about the right tool for the job.

    In my opinion autodesk and adobe combo is the top tier to use, Texturing with subtance painter, maya for animation, 3ds-max for modeling and more. But it hard to learn them, they are really complex! Great video, keep going

    • @takerefuge3d

      Fair play, I disagree about Max, but Maya has great animation tools for sure, this video was more of a response to people saying -why should I pay for software?, I don't know if I was clear enough, but the right tool at the end of the day is the one that you're comfortable with that gets the job done

    You didn't really touch on the boolean capabilities of Plasticity. That's where the software truly excels. It's more dynamic and easy to use even than MOI, Fusion, and MOP Booleans with Modo, all of which already blew ZBrush and Blender out of the water. There's a lot more to it than people are giving it credit for. But I guess you don't really run into that unless you're doing high level modeling.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  ปีที่แล้ว

      Deffo the way to go for boolean hard surface stuff, is the main reason I use plasticity, I will admit I didn't really script this video I just wanted to make an example of different ways you might use each technique might do an updated version more generally down the line that highlights better the pros and cons of each technique

    My workflow at the moment is Plasticity for the grunt work and then Blender for fine tuning. My work is predominantly non-organic objects for 3D printing, and Plasticity is great for knocking out objects quickly and accurately.
    Blender will always be a part of the equation. Its just too powerful. The base app plus all the plugins available is just ridiculous. The only problem I have with it personally is that the UI is the posterchild for TMI. Its like wanting to ride your bike, but you're presented with the cockpit of the space shuttle.
    Plasticity provides the essentials in your face, with everything else being a shortcut away. This combined with the search function make the UI very easy to learn. Even as a complete novice its very intuitive.

      Would you say that plasticity is useful for 3d printing jewelry alongsize zbrush (if the product in question is organic like a skull ring)
      But if the product in question is going to be a cnc machined piece.. then fusion 360 because plasticity although nurbs.. isn't exactly suited to that?

    I appreciate the video, but I am mostly interested in what the end product is in terms of. is it viable for a game ready model? Is it only for 2D renders? etc.
    It seems like almost ever video I watch skips over this

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's totally viable for a game ready model, slightly different workflow to polymodelling, you need to convert to OBJ and do some fixing of mesh and uvs but no more than traditional boolean workflow.

    At present in my opinion the difference is only one: curved surfaces.
    Blender is strong in subd, but eve it is powerfull it is slow because the subd are slow.
    Curved surfaces in Plasticity are slow and rather technical, still.
    Solid modeling in Plasticity win also Boxcutter Hardops and whetever polygonal program.
    Once Plasticity will have subd (and maybe it will, as with Rhino) with a new workflow, all in it the 3D part dealing with modeling will be unrivaled. But a thousand things can happen in the meantime: new addons in Blender, new tools, improvements of existing ones.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With Nurbs models there is nothing to subdivide as it's completely different from polygons, in a way it already is sub d and you just choose your resolution when you export.

    • @takerefuge3d

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dev borrowed from those in regards to shortcuts so plasticity tips it's hat to those add-ons, working with nurbs is a little bit easier than working with polys for hard surface stuff, so I'm just considering it another tool in my belt.

    I picked up Plasticity in a day (to the point where it clicked) I've been playing about with Blender on and off for years and honestly? I can't stand it. It's got better by miles but still the modelling is just retarded.

    • @Littleboxofevil
      @Littleboxofevil ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Retarded? It's a pure spline to surface modeller, it doesn't get much better than this for freeform modelling. A lowbudget software that allows you to quickly model a car by example is awesome! What modelling program/manner are you used to? I also do modelling in max, zbrush, but a package like this is indispensable

      @@porthmeor1 and that is my point in the video (may be didn't do the best job making it) an all round chopping knife will do every thing well enough but it won't slice a tomatoe paper thin like a serrated fruit knife and it won't fillet a fish like a filleting knife, in the same way blender can't do nurbs modeling and plasticity has no render engine and zbrush modelling tools are pretty awkward.
      Blender is very good at a lot, and it's free and it's my go too for most things, but to continue the knife analogy going there is no knife that does all knife tasks with equal perfection (speaking as some one who worked as a chef for a decade) 😏☺️
