- In this video, we do a walk around and short ride out of a Honda CD200 Benly, from 1980. She's a 6V model and has been off the road since 1994. The paintwork is very good and everything is solid and original, including the exhaust silencers.
I had one of these in the mid 80s. It was one of my favourites. Honda should remake bikes like this.
I really love these. The Cameraman is not so keen.
I purchased a 1983 12v version in 2015. Was a 3 year project doing it up in between a full-time job. Ive still got it and ride it to and from work in the fine weather. Which unfortunately is not that often. Not a speed machine by any means but so comfy and feels good on the road. Drum brakes are ok but more distance behind traffic is required for any urgent stopping 😂
Well done on getting it back on the road. Not a speed machine, as you say, but a nice thing.
I bought one of these brand new in 1981, unfortunately only had it for about six months when it decided to have an argument with a car and lost. It was a really nice bike to ride.
It's a sham that one was lost. I love these; the camerman is not so sure but what does he know.
Used to have one of these back in the day, as it was only 4 speed I upped the gearing she used to do 55mph pinned in second gear, I gave that thing a lot of stick, I also took a carb from a Honda cg125 with the acceleration pump and duel cable and fitted that and it made a great difference. Top speed was 80mph in good conditions. Great bikes
Thanks for your story. Great times.
great bike im doing one up right now im putting twin carbs on it as they pull wheelies really well with twin carbs the single carb was put on for mpg which is awesome on one of these but i like wheelies lol.
It will be great to hear how you get on with the twin carb conversion. Please let us know.
Looks in good nick. I had the cb200, the twin carb job. Nice serviceable bikes. My rear mudguard went like that. I had it rechromed and painted the underneath of both mudguards to save them. Underneath the pipes go rusty if the drainholes aint kept clear. But those pipes look different to the ones on my old cb.
Thanks for the comment. The silencers did look OK, underneath, on this one.
Considering it is a bike from the 80s, it looks really good. My brother gad one for a while. I never got the chance to ride it. I thing they sound lovely. A soft engine note.
It's not the camerman's cup of tea but I love them.
My dad used to have one the same as you got in his teenage until now he said the best bike he ever had in trying to get him one in his birthday but simply cannot find one near yemen
We filmed this at Oxford Classic Honda, here in the UK. He has a few of them. Good luck with your search.
@@MotorcycleFettlers thank you
good
The CD200 is also called Honda TMX 155 (which later replaced Honda TMX 125 from TMX 155 and TMX 155 Supremo).
I've not heard of the TMX. I had a look on Google images. The TMX looks like a single. It looks a little more like the CG or CB?
Hindi po kuya, the TMX is a single. The CD200 is a twin.
I was tempted to buy the TMX when I was living in the Philippines (Pampanga), but went for the Skygo Earl 150 instead, because of it's classic styling. Its rotary gearbox took a bit of getting used-to, though!
We've just published a video on the Honda C50 'Little Cub' 14. It's an import and was made for the Japanese market. It, too, has a rotary gearbox and you're right, it takes a little getting used to...We've also filmed the CB400 Hondamatic. Now, there's an arrangement that takes a little getting used to...look out for that one in a couple of weeks.
@@MotorcycleFettlers Yes, the idea is to roll up to the lights in top, press down for neutral whilst waiting, then down again for first when the green comes on. I prefer a conventional 'box, so after hitting first a few times at speed after what I thought was a false neutral - the low gearing didn't help either - I rode mine as if it were a conventional one.
I'll look forward to watching the CB400 matic video.
