Sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford. This is NOT political pr0paganda video. I do NOT support what is shown on screen, it's a movie... For entertainment and educational purposes only.
Actually, the North lost a lot more in terms of lives. There wasn't a "winner" in the American Civil War. Well, maybe the folks who profited most "won".
@@rajivmurkejee7498 Alright so, it's not really the succession itself that was bad. It was the people who were succeeding and the reasoning behind it. See, the American colonies fought for independence from Britain, because of tyrannical acts from king George. Such as the intolerable acts, unfair taxes, ect. The Confederacy succeeded to both keep and expand slavery. Here's a quote from the vice president of the Confederacy. Alexander Hamilton Stephens"Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery-subordination to the superior race-is his natural and normal condition."
Well for one we didn't succeed from the British crown. We declared ourselves independent and became our own Nation. When the South broke away from the Union they were doing so so they could continue to own people. Every single declaration of secession from the union cites slavery or the preservation of white supremacy. As the main motivator for leaving the country. It wasn't about tyranny. It wasn't about no taxation without representation. It was simply because the southern states were angry that no new slave states were going to be made and that their political power in the union as it existed would eventually crumble and they didn't like that. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you. Read the articles of secession. Read what the southern leaders at the time actually thought it had nothing to do with States, rights or whatever hogwashed the modern Confederate sympathizers come up with
Because people today try to turn White Southerners into racists in order to win elections. So they demean their families (past and present) with all sortts of racist garbage. The crazy part is they're just fearmongering Black Americans themselves and can't see it. And seeing as those same people have started to lose the Black vote more and more, all their goofy tactics have just become more exposed.
"Northern flags in South winds flutter", it's funny. There "might could be" possibly, in this day and age, more Rebel battle flags flown in the "north", namely in places such as Pennsylvania, than there are in the "south", at least, if one has done as much traveling around as this user has! Rather cool to see, too! Sidenote: This user simply cannot take DavidArquette seriously as a Confederate officer. Have seen him on-screen as a goofball foil one too many times over the decades, and seeing him with (even fake) gray-hair just makes this user feel old and sad! Cool for him, though, he also likes prowrestling (shouldn't have "won" the WCW World Title, and the movie "Ready-To-Rumble" was terrible, but he's since made up for that)!
Are these songs still popular there? What do those living in the South think about the war itself after so many years? Does anyone really want to secede nowadays?
Nope. It's not so popular but in every war in the world there will be a "loser" that cherishes their pride. I'm not a Christian but perhaps it should be a reminder to "love your enemies"?
@@user-ui7iy4vk1e There's been no case in the world where a soverign nation has been completely and utterly destroyed to the point where noone will believe in the ideals of said nation. What you can pray for is that those who follow in their stead will be better than them.

Can someone explain to me why many defend this side of the war? I honestly don't understand how they support slavery being legal and people of color not having rights.
It’s weird and kind of hard to explain. The south’s economy was dependent on cotton and other farming. Slaves were the only way the southerners could make a profit. So Lincoln trying to take away the slaves meant that he was also trying to take away the south’s livelihood
Lincoln originally was resolved to allow states to maintain slavery if they wished. He opportunistically changed tack after Gettysburg (that is, half way through the war) in order to give the war some moral purpose when many in the North were questioning whether the war was worth the sacrifice. Since then, revisionists have made the war about slavery, whereas it never was. It was about states’ rights. Slavery might win the modern day “morality vote” but the blatant hypocrisy of Lincoln and his apologists makes the South the more virtuous, as well as the underdog.
@@Simo01939The reason people support the succession today, is because the United states has become so radically left it is hard to recognize, while the south and many other rural areas remain christian and white.
The song was so good even lincon liked it so we can all agree sputern music is a little better than union music but yankee doodle hit harder okay to me at least
The Constitution would have been upheld in that states have rights and the federal government would not have been able to consolidate their power both legally and militarily. The act of 1871 would have never happened which led to the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 which was immediately followed by the Revenue Act and the creation of both the Federal Reserve and the IRS thus making slaves out of all of us! The war was never about ending slavery for a select group of people, it was about expanding it to all Americans.
GREAT SATRICIAL SONG. You do know, don’t you, that the rebellion was crushed. So, in the end, the Lord’s work was truly done and the United States UNION was preserved. Two arms were all that was left of the CSA after all those other "brave" dixie boys deserted. GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.
@DeVolksrepubliek Dixieland was a minstrel song from the Northern United States prior to the American Civil War. Surprisingly, minstrels were not that popular in the South. It was later adopted by the Confederacy as a sort of anthem. Both the northern and the southern version were not satire. Though the genre of minstreldom(?) did contain much satire. The "two arms" sentence. I assume is a parody of a line in the song, but doesn't make much sense to me. My assumption was the OP wasn't a native English speaker, and was using allegory or analogy, and I wasn't quite sure of his meaning.
@DeVolksrepubliek i appreciate your explanation. I just don't see it. You have to bend it, and twist it, and dose it with LSD. To get that interpretation.
