The reason some Bleach fans are so suspicious and gatekeepy is because, for over a decade, there was this weirdly large group who were obsessed with hating on Bleach. The gatekeepy Bleach fans don't like new people coming in because of the huge misinformation campaign that some youtubers and social media personalities that caused a large portion of the general anime zeitgeist to view Bleach as some kind of terrible story for factually incorrect claims. They don't want new people coming in looking at Bleach through that lens, so they gatekeep.
One piece has a Dual fandom for this reason and its VERY CLEAR which side doesnt deserve to exist they HATE ONEPIECE 90% of the time Calling ODA Misogynistic. Calling the OG fans Pedo's. Gatekeepign needs to happen.
Bleach fans are too busy enjoying Bleach's return and surge in popularity to care about people calling them weird. We love a great manga and anime and have had to deal with people saying it shouldn't even be considered to be one of the big 3.
I think the "Gatekeeper" ness that comes from the fandom stems from years of people shiting on Bleach. People often call it the weakest of the big 3 (some don't even acknowledge it as a member of the big 3). It was widely hated by other communities which caused some fans to become bitter that people shifted opinions/ hopped on the bandwagon once TYBW came out. DBZimran has a whole feud because of this. He felt that people were bandwagoning the series and wanted to call them out for it. Globku stated that the game "was making words up" when the words had been used in the series before. He equated it to saying a Naruto game was making up the word Chakra. Afrosenju had said some disparaging stuff about Bleach but was hyped when the game trailer came out. Imran was obviously gatekeeping, but it comes from a sense of loyalty to a series he loves. All around, some fans need to learn that it's not that deep, casual fans get hyped onto things even if they did once hate on it.
I'm a long-time bleach fan, but i think the crux of their argument is that they're suspicious. For 10 years, there have been comments and some videos shitting on the series, not criticisms, just complete misinformation. Through this misinformation people were using that to justify their hate for the series. A youtuber called platinum equnoix has a whole series of people hating on the series then switching up when the anime was coming back that's who they are calling out. But a lot of the comments are right it's better to let go of the hate
I think Bleach was subject of war on internet. Many people say it's fan base is toxic, but in reality there is that weird anti-base keeps attacking it since Bleach debut and fans simply meet them with clash. This anti-base is for some reason very prominent on internet (somehow more than fan base} , and keeps throwing fake info and weird argument. That is why we are seeing that gatekeeping . It is not really fan base that is attacking.
Personally, as a long-standing BLEACH fan, I'm just happy my favorite series is getting the love and attention it deserves. I welcome anyone to read/watch BLEACH! However, I feel as though this video is a bit biased against the more vocal members of the BLEACH community. As a long time bleach fan, I don’t gatekeep anime that I like and for bleach it had always been the black sheep of the big three and before we started to get more content it was shamed and was barely keeping its big three qualifications and I received a lot of hate and comparisons that I felt ashamed saying it’s name, I started questioning whether I liked it or not, is there something wrong with the show that I didn’t see . people hated it for the reason I liked it and now these are the same people that are being hypocrites and saying it’s good because it has better animation it is just plain awful and thats all it took to change their minds

I agree, I’ve been a bleach fan for a few years now and the discourse in the community in contrast with one piece or Naruto is very ‘gate keepy’, and I haven’t met any bleach fans who actively recommend the show or ppl who recommend it as a ‘must watch’ anime let alone as a 1st anime. I’m guessing it’s due to a lot of the slander it’s gotten bleach fans have become a bit more bitter, so now when more ppl start to enjoy it it doesn’t seem ‘genuine’ to them and more as a trend to like it rather than liking it from the start.

The of anime has some issues. Reading the manga is better than reading the og anime IMO. Old anime is still good for sure, but if you're expecting demon slayer quality from it you'll be disappointed.
