Not Deep Purple..this is a powerhouse album that really proved that Ritchie, Jon and Ian could change and still be outstanding! 2. In Rock - THE most important and breathtaking hard rock album. A pure 10/10 masterpiece!! 1. Made in Japan - My favorite rock album of all-time! Live OR Studio. The fact there isn't one overdub is insane!!! The power, the energy, the creativity, and the sound!!! Martin Birch ...THE master engineer!!!! It's the live experience of extended solos that made Deep Purple THE most dangerous and powerful live band of their era. My top 3 Albums: 1. Machine head 2. In Rock 3. Burn My top 3 songs: 1. Highway Star 2. Smoke on the water 3. Child in time And Martin ,I am hunting for your books! And Phil, thank you again for this heavenly video. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
First of all: Two of my favorite people on Music TH-cam. Great. Purple is one of the first Bands I've ever listened to. I had a compilation called "The Deepest Purple". However, I never really got deep into them. I have another compilation, called "The Gold Collection" or something like this. Other than that I only have Mark-2-Studio Albums ("In Rock", "Fireball", "Machine Head" and "Perfect Strangers") and some Live Albums. Mostly from the Mark-2-Line-up as well. "Come Hell or High Water" was my first and I really like it. Recently I got a box that contains the full concerts from Stuttgart and Birmingham. "Made in Japan" of course and a couple of Legacy Releases ("Live in Copenhagen 1972", "Live in Stockholm 1970" & "Live in Long Beach 1971"). Among those I have two from other Line-Ups ("Paris 1975" and "Long Beach 1976"). Paris is with Blackmore, Long Beach with Tommy Bolin. I'm not really a fan of Bolin doing Blackmore's stuff. Same for Coverdale doing Gillan-Songs. Glenn Hughes' voice I generally don't like. I have considered to at least give "Stormbringer" and "Burn" a try, but as of now I haven't done so. I like Whitesnake, so I should at least get something out of Coverdale's songs, I guess. Great Show. Love both your insights.
Very pleased to have discovered your channel Phil, I look forward to delving deeper. I'm not especially au fait with the Morse era as I am somewhat recent to Purple (three to four years now perhaps) and a younger guy. That said, a top five might look like this if pressed. 1) Come Taste the Band (Bolin brings the energy and Coverdale truly spreads his wings while Hughes is infrequent yet spellbinding) 2) Live in London (Blackmore is incendiary, Paice is an octopus, and the vocal duo perform like they have something to prove) 3) In Rock (The hardest one to talk about since it's so monumentally important) 4) Fireball (Variety in abundance as if to show that their were more tools in the box than one might think) 5) Purpendicular (Morse fits like a glove, Gillan is wonderfully expressive, and the rest of the band play like they are truly enjoying themselves)
Hi Charles, welcome to Now Spinning Magazine and thank you for sharing your top 5 Deep Purple albums. What a great list that is, which includes four of mine as well. Fireball almost seems a bit PROG to me in places. I am going to do a separate video on that soon. Phil
Hi Phil that was a brilliant Deep Purple top 10 ranking with Martin Popoff . It's great to have a great guest like Martin whom I totally respect on his other channel with Pete Pardo . Another great video thanks so much Phil.
A great show gentlemen! Thanks! Enjoyed every minute of it! I think I will start listening to all Purple albums starting from the very first one on my daily walks.
1. Machine Head 2. Made in Japan 3. In Rock 4. Who Do We Think We Are 5. Burn 6. Perfect Strangers 7. Fireball 8. Stormbringer 9. House Of The Blue Light 10. The Battle Rages On
@@NowSpinningMagazine very cool Martin's a great guy. Might bring you some more viewers and others coming over from the Sea of tranquility. A lot of people follow Martin
There Must be someone doing a Ranking Video of the best Ranking Videos Makers …I think you both and Pete would be on top of this List…well Done! Love to Listen to you, so nice, Polite, friendly, warm and Entertainig! Mit freundlichen Grüßen, best Wisches to you!
Brilliant video Phil, great to see Martin on. The dream gig to see you & Pete Pardo together talking for hours on Deep Purple 😊 here's my top 10 1. Machine Head 2 Burn 3. Come taste the band 4. In Rock 5. Stormbringer 6. Fireball 7. Perfect strangers 8. Purpendicular 9. Who do we think we are 10. Slaves & masters. Any given day a few outside the top 10 will replace those above. 😊
Great show guys! Here are my top 10 (in no particular order, because it may change depending on the mood I'm in): In Rock, Machine Head, Burn, Stormbringer, CTTB, Perfect Strangers, Fireball, Now What?!, Purpendicular and Whoosh!
Discovered your channel this evening. Great discussion with Martin - I have a trunk full of his books!. My Top 10 Purple albums: 1) Made in Japan 2) In Rock 3) Machine Head 4) Burn 5) Fireball 6) Who Do We Think We Are 7) Come Taste the Band 8) Perfect Strangers 9) Purpendicular 10) Now What?!
@@NowSpinningMagazine Thank you Phil. Your album discoveries in the Deep Purple and Rainbow catalogues seem so parallel and similar to mine. Really enjoying your videos...they are bringing back detailed memories I hadn't thought of for a very long time until you mentioned your own experiences to my own. Looking forward to more as I go continue through your site. Best wishes from Canada!
I had so much fun following you two on your quest, and going back to some albums that weren't too familiar and appreciating them in a new way (Deep Purple, Come Taste The Band...). Thanks for the inspiration! I'm really curious if they are going to record another album without Steve Morse. But I just don't want them to stop now, considering how good the last outputs were. Thinking about a favourite album, I myself have a soft spot for "Bananas".
Turning to Crime should have been covers of Mark I, III and IV songs with a couple outside tracks like Oh Well and Lucifer. Mandrake Root, Hey Joe, Kentucky Woman, Wring That Neck, Why Didn’t Rosemary, Bird Has Flown, Sail Away, What’s Going On Here, Mistreated, The Gypsy, Love Child are songs an older Gillan could handle well with Ezrin’s production. This would allow for Purple to expand their set list some what.
You would never ever get Ian Gillan to sing DP Mk3 songs even if he could handle them. I believe he has done some Mk1 songs, such as Bird Has Flown, Mandrake Root, Hush, and maybe a couple more.
after watching your video on come taste the band I decided to pick up a CD of it, before that I didn't care about it, for me it was no Blackmore = bad album, I'd heard you keep on moving and it didn't do anything for me. but when i gave it a full listen I loved it. it has become one of my favorite DP albums it's in the top two. so thank you for that!
Great show! My picks are machine head , burn, fireball, in rock, come taste the band, strombringer, perfect strangers, who do we think we are, perpendicular and now what?
My 10 studio albums would be 1 In Rock 2 Machine Head 3 Fireball 4 Burn 5 Come Taste The Band 6 Perfect Strangers 7 Who Do We Think We Are 8 Stormbringer 9 Purpendicular 10 Deep Purple (1969)
Yup, you deserve the thanks. New to the channel, but have watched some of your Purple videos, and enjoyed them a lot, especially the Made in Japan one, showing all the versions.
Hi Phil. Great work at a very hard job! I envy my sister, who has 5 immovable fave Deep Purple albums - Come Taste the Band, Burn, Purpendicular, Stormbringer and Whoosh! Any Top 10 for me would change weekly, and would always include at least one Mk.1 album. Battle Rages On would usually feature too. The closest thing to In Rock for me is Mott the Hoople's Brain Capers, as you said once also a big indicator of Punk. Some of the albums you two cited have fave tracks for me: Strangeways, Jack Ruby, Place in Line, Maybe I'm a Leo, No No No, etc. I laughed when Martin said he doesn't like jams or long numbers on Made in Japan or Song Remains the Same. Those are a major part of why I love Purple and Zeppelin! The longest recorded Wring That Neck is on the bootleg from Croydon Fairfield Halls in late 1970 - 40mins. It never gets boring or too tangential, unless you just don't enjoy that kind of freeforming. By the way, Thin Lizzy, who recorded the Funky Junction Play a Tribute to Deep Purple LP, included "Woffle", the noisefest which opens Speed King! That album got me into Purple back in '74/'75 - 50p from local Woolworth's.🙂 Do you collect bootlegs too?
Hi Alex, thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. I have a few bootlegs but I am not a fan of poorly recorded ones. Like you it is the jamming elements that drew me into Purple. Interesting to hear you think Brain Capers is close to In Rock. I had not thought of that before. Phil
My top 10 would be 1. In Rock 2. Fireball 3. Machine Head 4. Burn 5. Purpendicular 6. Deep Purple (self titled) 7. Now What? 8. Perfect Strangers 9. Stormbringer 10. Abandon I didn't include any live albums or bootlegs because that's its own list. On extended songs I couldn't disagree more, I love extended songs and improvisational jams. For me songs performed live the same as the studio version are sterile, boring, and lack passion and creativity. My favorite Deep Purple live performances are almost all from '69-'71 when they were at their most extended and improvisational...
1. Burn. 2. in Rock. 3. Perfect Strangers. 4. Machine head. 5. Come taste the band. 6. Now what. 7. Slaves and masters. 8. House of blue light. 9. Fireball. 10. Stormbringer
I really enjoyed the comparisons of the various Deep Purple albums . A fan since 1968 a few comments . Happy to see Purpendicular receive accolades as it is almost a masterpiece . Could not agree with Martin's high ranking of Abandon , and Perfect Strangers has 3 or4 good songs , but doesn't hold up as as a " great " album . Kudos to Martin for mentioning " Look At Yourself " by Uriah Heep . That song would have been a perfect fit on In Rock ! Criticism - not enough love for Now What ! Could be top 5 ! Playing non stop in the car for months now ! Great show Phil !
Hi Phil, always great to watch your D.P related programs. Ditto seeing author Martin Popoff. I’m 60 years old,and my journey into the D.P family was 24Carat, and Deepest Purple. I was aware of other D.P compilations in the late 70’s and mid 80’s. Would you consider doing a program on influential D.P compilations?
Thank you for watching. That is the great thing about a band like Deep Purple. With so many albums, line ups and years of been together everyone has a different perspective. I never get bored talking about the band and could do these top 10 lists over and and they would still be different. Rapture of The Deep is a great album as well. Phil
Really fun and interesting chat, thanks to you both, I can't begin to rank any band more than maybe three or four albums, I enjoyed it though and hope you'll do more, cheers!
Hi Phil, just watched this for the first time, one minor point I don't know about the other side of the pond but on this side, both In Rock & Very Eavy Very Umble were released in June1970, within about a week of each other. So that rather eliminates the argument about which came first in the creation of Heavy Metal. Other than that a brilliant video even if I disagree with a lot of Martin's opinions, well done to you both.
My top 7 for what it's worth, all studio. 1 Fireball 2 Machine Head 3 In Rock 4 Who Do We Think We Are 5 Come Taste The Band 6 Burn 7 Stormbringer For me personally having grown up with Deep Purple, anything they did after Come Taste The Band I'm not interested in, I have them all but it just doesn't do it for me and they really should now call it a day, should have done it years ago, I admire Led Zeppelin for never reuiniting as their legacy will never be tainted.
Great to see completely different lists, showing what a versatile band DP is and how it touches people in different ways. As of turning to crime, the Album of Reprise I would of enjoyed is 1 song from every Album played by the current line up.
Deep Purple (1969). Perfect Strangers (1984). In Rock (1970). Come Taste the Band (1975). Stormbringer (1974). Shades of Deep Purple (1968). Machine Head (1972). Rapture of the Deep (2005). Now What?! (2013). The House of Blue Light (1987).
Deep Purple`s self titled from 1969 is one of the albums I find myself going back to over and over - In my Top 5 and maybe it is because I was a Purple fan before the MkII days ... (Chasing Shadows, Faultline /The Painter, Why Didn`t Rosemary?, the Bird has Flown, April pure magic for that time ....
Martin is a phenomenon in his own right, he writes a books about a group that he actually doesn't like. He likes the albums from the late period the most, and not the albums from the beginning of the group's career, which are real masterpieces and among the most important albums of rock history of all time. Who doesn't consider those albums the best in the whole in the group's catalog, he actually doesn't like Deep Purple. For me, Martin is a joke because it is known that he likes punk and new wave the most.
This was based on our current personal top 10 deep purple albums. So martins and my choices are just as valid as yours. Thank you for watching - Phil :)
@@ninoorjon I like every line up and off shoot of the Deep purple family. I don’t believe there are any bad albums just some I like more that others, but even then I can change my mind! Phil :)
1) Come Taste The Band (1975) 2) In Rock (1970) 3) Made In Japan (1972) 4) Burn (1974) 5) Machine Head (1972) 6) Fireball (1971) 7) Stormbringer (1974) 8) Who Do We Think We Are (1973) 9) Deep Purple (1969) 10) Perfect Strangers (1984)
Yes, this is an amazing band, and if we meet more or less similar opinions about other bands, then in this case everything always looks so radical that complete coincidences of albums or their placement in close places are rare. Although these lists can be understood, a person really loves and appreciates Deep Purple or is looking for something to like in him, as, for example, in the case of Phil, who chose only In Rock from classic albums and diluted his list quite abundantly with live albums. Live albums are really a separate issue, and yes, I love bootlegs and live albums, but I prefer live performances that accompany the video sequence - this gives me the feeling that I am present at a concert that I missed due to various objective reasons, but the songs which for me are more ideal than on a studio album, can be listed on the fingers of one hand. Yes, energy is added at concerts, details that were not in the original and it's cool when you're among the audience, it's also good when you've listened to the original a million times and you want variety, but live can't be the first choice when the band is really loved and they have 22 studio albums even if they are the best live band in the world. I also think that just one instrument, no matter how brilliant it is in the mix, can't hold my attention for long unless the others are top notch, so it always confuses me when mediocre live tracks are elevated just because it has an ingenious guitar passage or an unforgettable drum beat, unless of course I'm just a fan of guitar or drums, and other instruments and vocals are secondary. I can not dispute someone else's opinion, I just express my thoughts.
Hi Nino, thank you for watching and sharing your fantastic comment! If I took the live albums out of my list it would have been 1. Burn, 2. Come Taste The Band, 3. In Rock, 4. Machine Head, 5. Purpendicular, 6. Who Do We Think We are, 7. Stormbringer, 8. Now What! 9. Fireball, 10. Slaves and Masters
@@NowSpinningMagazine I understand, sometimes I look at these evaluation channels and learn a lot of new things. Personally, I don't rank albums of bands, it's just that there are favorites and not so much, that's all. Same with this group. If I love and appreciate the album, why should I give it a number? The only exception might be number 1 or the era I prefer in general.
Machine Head, Burn,In Rock, Fireball, Stormbringer, Perfect Strangers and probably couple others which i not listened are in top ten.But Machine Head is the most influental album in history of Hard Rock.
01. in rock [1970] 02. burn [1974] 03. come taste the band [1975] 04. machine head [1972] 05. purpendicular [1996] 06. fireball [1971] 07. the battle rages on [1993] 08. deep purple [1969] 09. rapture of the deep [2005] 10. perfect strangers [1984] all time fav: *made in japan* [1972]
You got Come Taste The Band above Machine Head...wow! 01 In Rock 02 Machine Head 03 Who Do We Think We Are 04 Perfect Strangers 05 Burn 06 Fireball 07 The House Of Blue Light 08 The Battle Rages On 09 Stormbringer 10 Now What ?! Honourable mention - Come Taste The Band. Slaves & Masters will never feature on a list of mine as I don't consider it to be a true Deep Purple album.
@@CB-xr1eg well I like tommy bolins approach and the funkyness in those amazing songs. it shows that dp has even evolved further on in '75/76 shortly before tommys death. but on the other hand my list could change in a year...who knows?
Slave and Masters Album really shows off Ritchie Blackmores talent on the guitar, the songs are really good, Lynn Turner was good and best of all personally I found the production/studio recording was up there, certainly superior to some other Deep Purple albums...
Deep Purple in Rock released June 5, 1970 and Uriah Heep Very `Eavy...Very `Umble released June 13, 1970 not sure why it was stated Heep`s album was released before In Rock plus In Rock was mostly conceived / done in 1969 and was held back somewhat for Concerto .....Child in Time was performed at Concerto in 1969 etc etc
I would rank Machine Head as #1 and Lazy as possibly my all time favorite song, especially the studio version. What I like about it is it's kinda bluesy and almost froggy, at least the keyboards. I always wondered what songs like Never Before or Maybe I'm a Leo were covered by somebody like SRV.
Have to agree. Slaves and Masters was not DO. You cannot have JLT from Tainbow and expect to pull it off as a DP album. That said King of Dreams and The Cut Runs Deep are excellent songs Battle Rages On - poorly produced - lacking except for a couple of songs
Never understood why The Battle Rages On is so ignored. I never hear anyone even aknowledge it. Not their best, but the title track might be my favorite Deep Purple song, and it has Anya.
10. Now What?! 9. Fireball 8. Burn 7. Stormbringer 6. Deep Purple 5. Purpendicular 4. Shades of Deep Purple 3. Whoosh! 2. Deep Purple in Rock 1. Machine Head I chose not to include any live albums
I could give you my list and tell how I was raised and bottled up with Deep Purple, but I'm not worthy to speak about the Gods. I'll therefore keep silent and stay on my knees in awe.
If Tommy Bolin had lived., he would have fit in with the jam bands that appeared in the late eighties /early nineties ( Widespread Panic could be a good example)😀❤️🎼

Hi Oliver, thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts and the albums by Deep Purple you love. Brilliant choices - Phil
Very pleased to have discovered your channel Phil, I look forward to delving deeper.
I'm not especially au fait with the Morse era as I am somewhat recent to Purple (three to four years now perhaps) and a younger guy. That said, a top five might look like this if pressed.
1) Come Taste the Band (Bolin brings the energy and Coverdale truly spreads his wings while Hughes is infrequent yet spellbinding)
2) Live in London (Blackmore is incendiary, Paice is an octopus, and the vocal duo perform like they have something to prove)
3) In Rock (The hardest one to talk about since it's so monumentally important)
4) Fireball (Variety in abundance as if to show that their were more tools in the box than one might think)
5) Purpendicular (Morse fits like a glove, Gillan is wonderfully expressive, and the rest of the band play like they are truly enjoying themselves)
Hi Charles, welcome to Now Spinning Magazine and thank you for sharing your top 5 Deep Purple albums. What a great list that is, which includes four of mine as well. Fireball almost seems a bit PROG to me in places. I am going to do a separate video on that soon. Phil
Thank you, Phil. I agree that's Fireball is Prog in spirit and execution while also having some of the sound. I shall enjoy that video, I'm sure.
Hi Phil that was a brilliant Deep Purple top 10 ranking with Martin Popoff . It's great to have a great guest like Martin whom I totally respect on his other channel with Pete Pardo . Another great video thanks so much Phil.
Hi Jim, thank you for watching and your kind words of support - Phil :)

In Rock, Machine Head, Burn, Stormbringer, CTTB, Perfect Strangers, Fireball, Now What?!, Purpendicular and Whoosh!
Hi Domi, thank you for watching and sharing your top 10 Deep Purple list - love your choices - Phil
Awesome discussion about one of the greatest bands ever by two of the best rock journalists around. 🤘
Hi Ken, thank you so much for your inspiring comment. Thank means a great deal to me ! Phil
Enjoyed Martin on the show he gives a balanced view on certain albums. Excellent show , liked the Uriah Heep discussion on beating Purple to songs.
We might do Uriah Heep next

Hi Gary, thank you for finding my channel and commenting on so many of the videos - your feedback means a lot to me - Phil
Excellent show Phil and another podcasting milestone. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hi Chris, thank you, it really was enjoyable to do this and I am looking forward to doing more. Phil :)
I also like Bananas, each time I listen to it there is something else I discover. Phil
That would have been an inspired idea ! Phil
I never thought of it before, but Why Didn’t Rosemary’s lyric is close to something Gillan might write. I’d love to hear him sing that.
Amazing, so pleased you now like the CTTB album - it took me a while as well. Phil
Great show! My picks are machine head , burn, fireball, in rock, come taste the band, strombringer, perfect strangers, who do we think we are, perpendicular and now what?
Thank you for watching and sharing your top 10 Deep Purple albums! Phil

1 In Rock
2 Machine Head
3 Fireball
4 Burn
5 Come Taste The Band
6 Perfect Strangers
7 Who Do We Think We Are
8 Stormbringer
9 Purpendicular
10 Deep Purple (1969)
So interesting phil. Martin's a nice guy, you two really hit the button
Thank you 🙏 it was a really easy conversation, could have gone on for longer. Phil :)
@@NowSpinningMagazine you must have the bootleg Danish yodel not great quality but the playing is superb. 1971 i think
Thank you for doing this. Very fun to watch.
Thank you 🙏
Yup, you deserve the thanks.
That album got me into Purple back in '74/'75 - 50p from local Woolworth's.🙂
Do you collect bootlegs too?
Hi Alex, thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. I have a few bootlegs but I am not a fan of poorly recorded ones. Like you it is the jamming elements that drew me into Purple. Interesting to hear you think Brain Capers is close to In Rock. I had not thought of that before. Phil
Your sisters got 3 of the five right because I only have 3 purples albums I like, have a guess 😂😂😂
My top 10 would be
1. In Rock
2. Fireball
3. Machine Head
4. Burn
5. Purpendicular
6. Deep Purple (self titled)
7. Now What?
8. Perfect Strangers
9. Stormbringer
10. Abandon
I didn't include any live albums or bootlegs because that's its own list.
Superb list, if I took out the live albums my list would have been very similar. Phil
Great podcast. Thanks Phil.
Thank you 🙏
My first Deep Purple album like many fans was Deepest Purple . My favourite is Also Burn . Excellent show guys 😎😍
Thank you 🙏
I really enjoyed the comparisons of the various Deep Purple albums .
Hi Kevin, thank you for watching. I am with you on Perfect Strangers and agree Now What ! Is a classic. Phil
Hi Lee, yes I would ! Thank you for the idea - Phil :)
100 people, 100 opinions! I know ROTD has a very special place for me along with old days albums and most recent ones.
Hi Chris, thank you 🙏 we are going to do more - Phil :)
@@NowSpinningMagazine looking forward to it!
Thank you 🙏
Great show guys! Was Glenn Hughes greatest solo performance in Purple 'This Time Around'? I get Goosebumps every time i hear it!
Thank you for watching! Play Me Out is a superb album - Phil :)
Yes, it is, if I am a fan of Stevie Wonder, and if I love Deep Purple and British rock, then this is not entirely true. 😊
Oh, and according to Wiki only "Anyone's Daughter" was from Birmingham on "Come Hell or High Water" (on the CD, the Video was the NEC-Show).
My top 7 for what it's worth, all studio.
1 Fireball
2 Machine Head
3 In Rock
4 Who Do We Think We Are
5 Come Taste The Band
6 Burn
7 Stormbringer
For me personally having grown up with Deep Purple, anything they did after Come Taste The Band I'm not interested in, I have them all but it just doesn't do it for me and they really should now call it a day, should have done it years ago, I admire Led Zeppelin for never reuiniting as their legacy will never be tainted.
Nice to see Purpendicular in both of your top 5's
Thank you for watching, yes that was a good moment! Love that album - Phil
Made In Japan is the absolute best! Studio albums:

Great to see completely different lists, showing what a versatile band DP is and how it touches people in different ways.
As of turning to crime, the Album of Reprise I would of enjoyed is 1 song from every Album played by the current line up.
Deep Purple (1969).
Perfect Strangers (1984).
In Rock (1970).
Come Taste the Band (1975).
Stormbringer (1974).
Shades of Deep Purple (1968).
Machine Head (1972).
Rapture of the Deep (2005).
Now What?! (2013).
The House of Blue Light (1987).
Brilliant list, I will never get tired is seeing other fans top Deep Purple albums. Great to see Mk1 get a look in as well. Phil
Really enjoyed this tasteful rant!
Have you done Family review at all.
Part of the Load from Anyway is superb!
Keep doing!
I sent you a message on Instagram
Deep Purple`s self titled from 1969 is one of the albums I find myself going back to over and over - In my Top 5 and maybe it is because I was a Purple fan before the MkII days ... (Chasing Shadows, Faultline /The Painter, Why Didn`t Rosemary?, the Bird has Flown, April pure magic for that time ....
Wow! My two favourite music pundits together. I disagree with Martin about Never Before though lol....
Thank you 🙏
Martin is a phenomenon in his own right, he writes a books about a group that he actually doesn't like.
@@NowSpinningMagazine You are a great guy who loves a real rock music and big respect for you.
Thank you 🙏 that is very kind of you - Phil :)
In your opinion, everyone is obliged to love only classic albums, and those who like new ones along with them are not real fans?
@@ninoorjon I like every line up and off shoot of the Deep
purple family. I don’t believe there are any bad albums just some I like more that others, but even then I can change my mind! Phil :)

9) Deep Purple (1969)
10) Perfect Strangers (1984)
The last album with Jon Lord was Abondon, 1998
Thank you for watching and sharing your top Deep Purple albums. I have more copies of Machine Head than any other album. Phil
I don't like the long jamming on made in Japan but the sound on it is great especially the guitar is higher in the mix than the studio albums.

Honourable mention - Come Taste The Band.
Slaves & Masters will never feature on a list of mine as I don't consider it to be a true Deep Purple album.
@@CB-xr1eg well it is because I think the better versions of *machine head* are the live versions on *made in japan*
@@adnilrummut105I'd agree with that but I still think Machine Head is a far more listenable album than Come Taste The Band.
@@CB-xr1eg well I like tommy bolins approach and the funkyness in those amazing songs. it shows that dp has even evolved further on in '75/76 shortly before tommys death. but on the other hand my list could change in a year...who knows?
Slave and Masters Album really shows off Ritchie Blackmores talent on the guitar, the songs are really good, Lynn Turner was good and best of all personally I found the production/studio recording was up there, certainly superior to some other Deep Purple albums...
what is your opinion of " child in time " version on ians 1st solo? i quite like it.
Hi Bruce, I have always liked that. I felt that Ray Fenwick's solo really added something to the song. Phil
@@NowSpinningMagazine love the IGB version of CiT
Deep Purple in Rock released June 5, 1970 and Uriah Heep Very `Eavy...Very `Umble released June 13, 1970 not sure why it was stated Heep`s album was released before In Rock plus In Rock was mostly conceived / done in 1969 and was held back somewhat for Concerto .....Child in Time was performed at Concerto in 1969 etc etc
Deep Purple's best is Fireball...
Then it's Made in Japan....
And then maybe Machine Head or In Rock
I would rank Machine Head as #1 and Lazy as possibly my all time favorite song, especially the studio version. What I like about it is it's kinda bluesy and almost froggy, at least the keyboards. I always wondered what songs like Never Before or Maybe I'm a Leo were covered by somebody like SRV.
Wasted Sunsets has one of Blackmore's best solos IMHO, so much longing in his playing
Have to agree. Slaves and Masters was not DO. You cannot have JLT from Tainbow and expect to pull it off as a DP album. That said King of Dreams and The Cut Runs Deep are excellent songs
Battle Rages On - poorly produced - lacking except for a couple of songs
Never understood why The Battle Rages On is so ignored. I never hear anyone even aknowledge it. Not their best, but the title track might be my favorite Deep Purple song, and it has Anya.
Totally agree. I've always enjoyed sticking the album on and listening to the end 🤷
The title track is one of their best, love the way the riff changes towards the end
