I think you mentioned Beyond The Realms Of Death as the song on question in the Priest trial . It was actually a Spooky Tooth cover Better By You Better Than Me that supposedly had subliminal messages . I thought this was common knowledge to Priest fans .
Maiden music was always quite solid, though it became rather formulaic after a while. But Eddie the character & the colorful, over-abundance of Maiden art work is what attracted newer generations of fans & kept people connected & tuned into the band. Like going through eye catching comic books. & then everyone waiting to see this character live on stage along with the high energy of Bruce running around. So, agreed, it is definitely the mystique of Eddie & merchandising that gave Maiden a leg up. Priest didn't have as much of that. But they have had a more varied and, overall, better catalog of music.
I think the reason Maiden became more popular through the 2000s is because they became a "world-band." The "ra-ra-ra" of their lyrics, getting the crowd involved like it was a soccer match. This is especially true in South America and mainland Europe. But, in my opinion, Maiden stopped putting out great metal music. The albums were repetitive; too much "let's try Rime of the Ancient Mariner...again." (Sorry, Steve -- I love Maiden '80-'86. After that...not so much.) I think fans saw Priest as the band that was putting out better music. Maiden was selling more merch (who doesn't love Eddie) and tickets around the world, but I think Priest was putting out better music.
Priest were much more versatile and interesting. I like Iron maiden but they rarely surprised me. They have their sound and its great. But Priest could do anything from ballads to pop to blues to intense metal. Halford was the better singer too.
Maiden have become a rock band …. Whereas Priest are still the definitive Heavy Metal band! Defenders of the Faith! Priest also never needed the merch and mascot hype. Lately Priest has also brought way better albums than Maiden. My answer? Rod Smallwood 😂
They have nearly a full turnover in band members ,it's Rob Halfords Judas Priest now Maiden is a true band with all their band members from 1983, it's not a comparison really ,all the members in maiden are still highly capable musicians even though it seem maybe father time is catching up to Nicko, but priest are one member away of becoming foreigner, do they get good musicians for replacement ? Yes but I dont.want to spend money watching those guys , I want.to see kk and Glen ,maiden..I get the legendary Steve Harris , Adrian and.Dave and Bruce and Nicko and at.their age they still sound great, painkiller is great because they snagged a young drummer who was into thrash but I find it good yes but it's not stained class which I still throw on today ,the music is.t better, maybe faster but big deal, Maiden has better chops always ha ve always will and I have 11 albums that I still throw on at any given day, 13 if I count live after death and Maiden Japan (I'm aware they have 17 studio but 11 studio are the ones still relevant to me and 5 songs on no prayer that's it,) priest albums , sad wings, sin a sin, hell bent , stained class screaming and defenders , British steel sucks mist overrated pop rock ever
@@CycoSven69 If you think , Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Sin After Sin, Killing Machine, Unleashed in the East, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith and Painkiller are overrated, then you don't know much about metal.
I thought it was a cool single. I do laugh a bit at how much that opening synth melody sounds like the song from Fletch. Bringing back that Turbo Lover swoosh sound was a cool 80s call back.
Defender, Screaming for vengeance great albums, liked British Steel... most songs lol. Pain killer awesome... Priest is heavy... Maiden is harder... awesome musicianship. Love both two of the best bands ever. Also will say Priest's albums seen to have one or two songs for radio play, I think it was planed.
Very good comments. I'm not neutral on this matter. Maybe I like 10-12 maiden songs, of so. IM would not be half their size without the Eddie thing. Their marketing is a big case of sucess while Priest was a complete washout. Priest, for instance, got into web very late and lack their identity/brand. I could write an article about this, but two factors I don't like im Maiden: bruce's voice and their music is not heavy. There are two BIG branches in metal's tree: one is Sabbath, which is a bluesy originated; the other one is grown by Deep Purple, folkish and very, very "straight", not groovy. All the power metal bands like Blind Guardian, helloween etc come from that "whitey" branch, which Maiden is the big fruit. My 2wo long cents ;-)
En las guitarras y voces estan muy parejos ,pero creo que Maiden tiene mas calidad en la bateria y ni hablar del bajo en donde la diferencia es brutal a favor de la doncella ,Maiden gana sin duda

I'm sorry, but I have to VEHEMENTLY disagree with Martin on one point: The X Factor and (to a lesser extent) Virtual XI blow Juggulator and Demolition out of the water! I feel like no one gives those two albums a chance, but The X Factor especially is actually a pretty damn solid record, and I had hoped someone like Martin would have been able to see that... :'( Oh well. Other than that: I really enjoyed this conversation! :)
"Unlistenable"? That's a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? Even if you don't like them, they're not especially "bad". The Angel and the Gambler is probably Maiden's worst song I agree, but other than that: nothing on either of those records is really any worse than the worst of No Prayer For The Dying or Fear of the Dark. I find those albums (particularly The X Factor) work best for me when I try listening to them not as Maiden albums, but just for what they are.
It's a shame that KK was kicked out of Priest. I mean seriously? He is one of the founding members of Judas Priest! I would prefer Tipton to be kicked out not KK! Other than that, Judas Priest are more innovative and harder musically on the other hand Iron Maiden are more solid and epic but repetitive.. But both bands are great in general!
He wasn't kicked out, he quit the band and "retired" to start a golf course business. Since that didn't work out, he decided to start playing again and form his own band. Glenn Tipton and Jayne Andrews are the reason KK hasn't come back to Priest.
Here is the thing about both bands. The band "Halford" was by far more enjoyable than anything that Priest has done since Rob returned. "Resurrection" was a masterpiece! I rank it right there with "Hell Bent for Leather" and "Stained Class". "Crucible" was a brilliant follow up. I haven't been impressed by anything since "Angel of Retribution." Same deal with Iron Maiden. "Accident of Birth", "The Chemical Wedding" and "Tyranny of Souls" are spectacular albums and to me, outclass anything Maiden has done since "Brave New World". So, each singer, in my opinion, was reaching much higher levels of creativity and performance wise then the work they did upon returning to their original bands. Iron Maiden however, really took off after Bruce returned and outside the United States, they became the biggest metal band on the planet. Priest...they have never been able to the heights they did from "British Steel" to "Defenders of the Faith".
Good video, BUT sorry when they said maiden never really "reinvented" the sound of music like Priest ??? C' mon ! The first album have a punk sound that true and Killer album was different , Beast was different, Piece of mind was when they fing her "sound". Somewhere in time the first really dig in "progressive sound". And since Dickinson was back in 2000 , each album was more and more metal, prog , long, and epic. Maiden was THE band who probably have more influence on musicien since Led Zepplin. Just no comparaison in both band, and Maiden have a way more distinctive and unique sound. Priest seems just lost between Rock and metal ( special to have to listening at her show ; Painkiller and after that was living after midnight... OR Freewheel burning , and after that "Johny b good"... VERY special... So priest way least "prodigious and full sound". And live they have a good period ( not impressive, but good ). No maiden , no Metallica, no power metal, and the list goes on ... For the brave new world tour : Rob Halford hopening for them with Mothorhead, Dio and Alice Cooper ( depend on where you are ...). I think the point was just made here...
I respect your opinion....but I don't agree at all. To begin with, Priest starts much earlier and its evolution is much more extreme than that of Maiden. Their albums are simply much more varied. I think that the first stage of Maiden is very very good but after Brave New World their albums bore me, they are very repetitive and seem long and uninteresting. Regarding the musical quality...well, what do you want me to say...I think Priest's guitarists are so. noticeably more technical (or they were...sadly Tipton has Parkinson's now but he's been a much better guitarist than anyone in Maiden...I play guitar and it's just a fact). I love both bands but if I had to choose one I'm very clear. This doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the quality of Iron Maiden...they have given me a lot of good times and they are one of my favorite bands along with Sabbath and Priest, they are the holy grail of Heavy Metal.
