Social Media didn’t really take off till I was already a young man in college. Thankfully by then I already had a fully formed personality.
I didn’t really feel like a knew myself till my senior year of high school. I shudder to think of how I would have turned out as if I had gotten into social media as awkward teen with no deep friends.
Ended up trying Facebook and tumblr for a bit. I barely used Facebook except for checking some announcements from my college and I only really was into tumblr for the cool anime art. Now a days I don’t even remember my old login names

Best comedien for this era, he can do humour whilst tying it to logic, bring important subjects to the surface with the bare truth, even when hes pointing out negativity or being sympathetic and heartfelt he can still make it lighthearted and funny creating laughs.... Now thats a fine art to do that, intelligent all round great bloke from what ive seen of him, no bad news in the media about him and he doesn't have to use dark humour to get noticed 👌

I had to crack up about his teacher joke. Years ago in woodwork our teacher Mr Baston would get so worked up about people cutting what they needed for a project from the middle of the sheet rather than the edge, (waste) . He got so angry one day with one kid for doing just that, that he went ballistic anbout the money that the school was wasting. He yelled at the kid "That wood doesn't grow on trees you know !!!" A small voice from the back of the shop class said, "Erm Sir, yes it does ?" The teacher was totally deflated and went to his office for the rest of the class period. 🤣🤣

Social media is a double-edged sword. It has both kicked me down with pressure and also provided platforms for me to get better, figure myself out, and have fun.
Russell really did have lots of points though. Kids shouldn´t take frequent pictures of themselves (or videos) and put it online for others to judge. It has and can destroy them thanks to the people that exist online. Same with reality-tv. It has set standards that not many can reach, and even then... will they ever be satisfied with themselves? Some people will always find something "wrong" they have to "fix" about their apperance.

Another thing which children and young teens don't tend to understand (and some, but not all adults) is that most reality TV shows are scripted by the producers and have no real basis in reality itself. People will act as they are told to by the staff, regardless of whether they are really like that themselves. So you can find someone who is really a very heartwarming individual, acting like a complete jerk, or someone who likes to torment others, playing the hero who stands up for the same folks whom they would normally bully, etc.
Since it is viewed as someone's chance at being in the spotlight, they'll do as they're told to ensure they aren't edited out of the finished product.

    • @chuckdeuces911

Definitely agree on the need for positive female role models.
I grew up in the 90s in Mexico and on TV all there was was damn telenovelas with characters and plot lines that made no sense. I turned to English media and I can't mention a single strong, smart female role model.
I had to turn to male role models, Mr. Rogers (RIP), Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye and the female I remember being most prominent is Martha Stewart: a house wife (nothing wrong with that but she didn't fit my vibe).
My role models pushed me to be smart, question everything, expand my knowledge, experiment with science, language, archeology, astronomy, math. During high school my final paper was on Black holes. I went on to study Industrial Engineering and found it quite easy.
I remember being told I was too masculine, "That stuff is for boys", not going to get into Engineering School "it's too hard", I was warned that there was going to be no women and I would feel "alone" as I had been born attached to someone, I never heard anyone say that to any boy.... I was already alone. My peers didn't believe in me, some of my teachers didn't believe in me, only my parents.
A woman teacher (Industrial Psychology) im Engineering school told me in 7th of 9 semesters that I should have gone to art school because my diagrams and work were so pretty. The AUDACITY! I was only praised for doing "girly" things and people were surprised when I did better at electrical unions than ALL my 19 male classmates. I learned to brush it off to prove that women are capable of more than housework and pretty things like Martha Stewart (no shade).
My parents were always the ones that kind of believed in me, they saw me making my own way and how far I got so they just did all they could to help support me even though I could see they had their doubts.
I had learned from MEN on TV that I was strong and capable, that I could reach and touch the stars, that no goal was too big or idea too small or unimportant. I learned I was an important human being that could make an impact on history and be successful at whatever I wanted.
At around 30 years old I found more women that have felt like me and we just click. We didn't conform to society's assignment of what we should be, do or look like.
It's never been easy and with shizzy programs it won't get any better for the following generations.

on the other hand now YOU can become an inspiration for other girls and young women interested in fields still dominated by men.
as I grew older what annoyed me most was that there are even some women who think men are just 'better' at certain things. so I always reply to such nonsense "oh, do you need to operate the computer with a penis? no? then it makes no difference and the best person should be chosen for the job, regardless of gender". no really, you don't need a penis to operate a computer, you don't hold a scalpel with a penis, you don't pilot a plane with a penis, outside the adult entertainment industry a penis isn't needed for any form of job so why wouldn't women be able to do it?!

Thank you for your story. There are so many women who feel like you, but weren’t supported by their parents. My parents didn’t send me to the technical school I wanted to go to „because there are no other girls in my class“ and they sent me to economics school. After high school I finally could decide on my own what to study and went to the technic university to become an engineer. It was more difficult because I had an economic background but I still managed to be best of my class most of the time and got only A‘s. I married pretty young because I also wanted kids and a family of my own. But little that I know, that even though I had a very supportive husband the society judges you constantly for not being a 100% full time mum and for wanting to achieve more. Having to deal with postpartum depression and constantly being judged by parents for being a „bad mum“ because I wanted also a career etc. slowed me down, but I managed to get up.
I gave birth to my second baby boy and did my phd during the pandemic and will now begin to work again. But it was very very difficult to get to this state. I love my work but too often I felt like the whole world is against me doing my thing and too often people tried to convince me to give up on my dreams even though I was really good at it.

      @@ayseyurukcu9306 Bestie...
You do you. As you said, it can be "very difficult to follow your wishes" in a society that doesn't see women as equal or capable.
My dad always encouraged me to be self sufficient and capable. He always had me with him when he was doing dad things, we even carved out the part of the hill we live in which I "did all by myself" at 4 years old 🤣
My mom wanted me to be a girly girl always putting me in braids and dresses.
I can't thank them enough for that support.
I also experienced negativity from the world saying I was too masculine (like grade school and such) because I knew how to do "boy" things like kick a ball propoerly and other places (like uni) I was too feminine because I knew "girl" things like sewing buttons.
In high school I took up a Technical Degree in Business Administration and found too easy. I went on to Industrial Engineering with even my classmates thinking I wouldn't make it in.
In Uni I had ups and downn but found my people. We were a group of about 13-14 friends in which we were only 2 girls and later another girl joined us.
At work I was the only woman Engineer in my area. About 4 years later I moved departments and 1 year later a Jr. Engineer joined us.
At the last department I was in, I was under intense pressure and didn't realize I had developed depression and anxiety. The breaking point was an a.hole that joined and I kept complaining about his abuse. They kept telling us to "make it work". I ended up writting a letter to HR about his gaslighting, raising his voice and attitude in general. He got fired.
About six months later I was given a letter saying I was "difficult to work with" and to sign I would improve or could be fired without benefits (mandatory in my country). I didn't sign and the next day I was fired with 80% benefits.
It also turns out I had been paid half of what other Engineers with less responsibility were being paid. I did get experience in many areas of manufacturing so at least I got that benefit.
I've been staying home working on my mental health for about a year now living off the severance money. I had high functioning depression, was disconnected from my family because of the long work days, I had given up my hobbies yet kept buying materials "to use when I get a chance".
I'm better now. I've mostly healed. I've become closer to my family. I've retaken my hobbies and taken them to higher levels.
I'll start working again soon. My background in Quality Systems for Medical Devices, Molding, Extrusion, Incoming Inspection, Failure Analysis, Medical Device Assembly and Design, Testing, etc are a major asset I gained.
Children are not something I want for many reasons. But I was also pressured about it.
Thank you for your story as well. I hope you can continue to live your life the way you want it and not the way people EXPECT you to live it to their standards 💕

So many people are body conscious all because others are airbrushed to look better because they aren't what people want to see and it can be a vicious cycle. I can't stress how much I agree with Russell on this. TV shows say that it's only people's body that they need to develop, nothing else. Screw your personality, it's all about appearance. Now I know that for most people you need both, a good body and a lovely personality but I personally think people need to be looking at personality more than their body. I love what Russell said at 5:00 "Not all blokes should have to have a perfect six pack". He's so right about that because that's all that people make you think about, just their bodies, forget anything else, only body. I hate it so much, that people only care about their body that puts pressure on anyone who is overweight but still looking for love because TV shows and other things are pretty much saying, "if you don't have the perfect body, forget it". It hurts people so much that look for love but never get it, or they know they'll never have it anytime soon. Which could also lead to depression and other problems in your future life, I feel so sorry for those people, I know loads of people like you and I wish you the best of luck with your future love life.

I fucking hate social media culture and the Hollywood beauty standard that this world thinks women are supposed to look like. It has given me some really unhealthy ideas for what I need to achieve as a trans woman and what people will accept when I'm out in public. I'm so terrified people will clock me if I'm not super model hot that I'm completely ignoring the progress I've made in the last few years.

    • @Elwaves2925
      @Elwaves2925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

We don't know each other, so this won't mean much but I for one, would accept you as exactly the person you are in any situation. I'd say if other people have a problem with that, then it's very much their problem but unfortunately too many can make their problem yours. Be strong and remember what a YT'er on here always says - You are beautiful, you are valid and you are loved. :-)
I've almost never found 'supermodel hot' to be hot at all. Far too many are generic and boring looking. I'll always take the 'girl next door type' over any supermodel. Thankfully, that's what I got and she's wonderful.

I entered CAMHS age 15. I was fastforwarded into the system, medicated hospitalised- CAMHS traumatised me immensely. 6 years later I’m finally off the most damaging medication of my life: olanzapine, and… alive.
My message to CAMHS patients is, not all ‘qualified’ are ‘qualified’ to care. Consent should not be forced. Not all staff are honest. If a staff member does something and you don’t feel it is right, even if they tell you otherwise, you don’t have to accept it. And while antipsychotic medication can be enticing and is too readily prescribed, it will cause more MH problems. It should not be given to children or vulnerable people at all.
My message to parents and carers of patients is, do not force your child into MH care. You are more likely to lose your child if you do.
My love to all the people struggling. You deserve to feel cared for. 💚💚💚

If you think about it, they are encouraged to pretend to have a relationship for money. That's practically pimping someone out. I know it's an extreme opinion but i find both programmes revolting and exploitative.
