After our amazing experiences in the caves of Phong Nha we head back onto the Ho Chi Minh Road and head south towards the ancient city of Hue and the DMZ.
The DMZ or the demilitarized zone was the separating line drawn during the Vietnam war that separated the North and the South of the country and was home to some of the most violent clashes.
Today we take a tour through this beautiful yet somber part of the country and try to make it to the ancient imperial city of Hue.
This series was filmed in July 2022 ✌️🇻🇳✌️

The reason why central Vietnam has so many quiet hill side scenic roads is because these roads are very dangerous, they caused so many accidents in the past, that's why 2-3 tunnels have been dug through the ,mountains in the past decade for cars and trucks, they cut back the time and accidents ......if you pay attention there are a lot of small shrines along these hillside roads, as local people set up for the victims of these car accidents .

The transport aircraft is a C-130. In the DMZ it was "infamous" for gunship role, especially at night, when NVA convoys were most active. My uncle, my dad's older brother, was killed by one of these. He was a truck driver for the NVA. Actually his remain still burried in one of the cemetery along HCM highway in Ha Tinh province that i'm quite sure you have passed by on your way. A bit of sad history here for sure. But life go on. Have fun in VN!

Comparing motorbike between China vs Vietnam, let me tell you that it is safer when you do it in Vietnam. Putting the social and political issues aside, the one sure thing that will happen to you in your tour in China is your bike will either stop running or exploding because most gasoline stations in China mix water with gasoline and sell it to their customers.

Paddy, if you need petrol in remote village, just say “xang” then the local will show you the way.

I love the freedom of the country roads - even if stress levels go up when running out of fuel! It's an adventure!

The best thing for me in this video is the lack of back packers for the majority of your journey.

Glad you did not run out of gas Paddy! Seeing the military museum and all those old war relics, is sobering. I am obsessed with airplanes myself. That must be while you are such a good drone pilot. You always provide use with beautiful scenic shots of Vietnam countryside. Great video like always!

Paddy unfortunately we are going to have to strip you of your plane spotting credentials with immediate effect! This is one of the world's most iconic aircraft, the C130 Hercules used by nearly every Western military force in the world. 1000's have been built since mid 60's, and modern day variants are still in production to this day.

Hiya Paddy, I love this. With every new video, it just gets better and better. Amazing drone footage. Perfect tunes. Why watch TV when you have Paddy Doyle? You always make me smile. Brilliant as always. Love you dancing. It makes me nervous for you when you get low on fuel. Can you carry a little bottle, in your basket, for emergencies? Very informative regarding the war. So sad how many lives were lost. The planes and helicopters were huge. It always amazes me how they get into the sky. Very informative about visas. And always great to hear you have taken time with Miss P. Beautiful video. You are a tonic. Always feel-good vibes. Very uplifting. Thank you. Have a wonderful week.

My Dad volunteered to serve in the Air Force in Vietnam. He and my Mom talked about it at length and they knew by the time I was born in 1964 that the war was going to get hot. He wanted to put in his time over there BEFORE things got bad. Fortunately, he was sent to Germany instead, and this is where we lived during the late 60's, safe from harm's way. Vietnam was always a big thing in my family as my uncle served over there and we also lived at Travis Air Force Base where all the returning service members landed at the end of the war. I want to go to Vietnam as a form of closure for my family.

I never knew how beautiful Viet Nam is. Guess they have come a long way since the war. All I ever knew was what my oldest son’s Dad would say about being a Marine there and how awful the war was. Unfortunately I have lost them both. Thank you for showing the beauty there and the warmth of the wonderful people there. Take care and happy travels. Maybe carry some fuel bags with you to save walking if you run out. 🙏☮🤗
