    - Digitakt - [US bit.ly/3Z91eeE] [EU bit.ly/3y3sfV0]
    In this Octatrack Tutorial I show how to create a template project for the Elektron Octatrack for a little Dawless Techno Setup. This setup itself consists of the Digitakt as a drum machine, Minimalist Modular as a dual voice mono synth and the Octatrack as a live mixer, looper and performance sampler.
    I was exploring different ways to play a Techno Live Set and this particular setup became one of my favourite! The Octatrack fulfils all the gaps and helps Digitakt and Modular play together in harmony.
    In my Mini Eurorack Modular I have 2 voices: Dixie2+ and Basimilus Iteritas Alter! What an amazing combination! I actually like putting 2 voices in one case. It gives a lot variety in sound creation and sound design.

    🌍 Hello World! My name is Ihor.
    This is my channel where I share my experiences, ideas, reviews and tutorials related to Electronic Music Production. I focus mostly on Techno and House music. In my Studio on my Music Production Desk you will find a variety of different gear like: digital and analog synth, eurorack modular, drum machine, sampler, effect, mixer, guitar pedal, MIDI controller. Also software: DAW, Ableton, VST, plugins.
    I am myself an engineer and I am quite obsessed with the Music Technology and Sound Design. I like making music without a computer. I like playing Electronic Music Live with my Minimal Dawless Setup. I love Eurorack Modular Techno and always keen to talk about the modular workflow.
    I strongly believe that nothing can be better than a good Dawless Techno Jam!
    I watched all the Techno Tutorials on TH-cam! (I think)
    📺 Thanks for watching! And have fun!
    ✌️ Peace.

    4:58 > I use the same method to determine the length of the current pattern and where I am currently. I often use different scales on my tracks, so I set the master length the same as the longest track in a current pattern, at any time I can go to the master track and find out when my pattern comes to an end. Great video as always Ihor :)

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly this! Also if I play with Analog Rytm, for example, I would set the master/fx track on it to 1/2 or 1/4 to have even a wider overview on where I am. OT would show where I am within 4 bars and Rytm within 8 or even 16 bars. Quite handy for a live set!

    Great video! At 20:10 i can see how looping on the octatrack is handy for transitions and lets you change patterns on the digitakt and introduce new sounds. Can you also change full projects on the digitakt using this method (not just patterns), with the new digitakt project syncing to the tempo and phrase of the octa loop?

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Sam! I guess you can change the project if you setup the OT as your main clock and transport. But you may indeed run into a syncing problem.

    Very well explained, good video as always. I liked a lot the ducking trick, it seems the best I've seen.
    Two tricks you may like:
    I do the same with master to know where I am but sometimes with different scale, 1/4 for example, or 1/8 if I'm using a lot of conditionals 8:8. This way you can know if you want to make something at 32 bars.
    And it can be nice to have the master track INF if you use polymeters and the chain (or change, never remember well) length to 8 to be able to change patterns. This option is a bit hidden and I don't remember now well, I think it's in Personalize and then in the pattern settings.
    Thanks!

      Hey Manuel! Thanks for your kind words! I appreciate it!
      Thanks for the tricks you shared!
      Regarding the INF thing - it is so confusing on the OT, to be honest. On the DT you can set Master: INF and Change Pattern: 64 and have fun with polymeters. I guess that hidden option on OT fixes that too. I will figure it out!

      @@IhorMedia Hi, I found it:
      In Control Menu, then Sequencer:
      CHAIN AFTER controls when chained patterns will start to play. The default mode is PAT.LEN. When a pattern is playing and a new pattern is selected, the pattern currently playing will play to its end before the new pattern starts playing. If PER TRACK scale mode is active and a very long, or infinite, master length setting is used it might be more convenient to initiate a new pattern after the active pattern has played a certain amount of steps. Set the amount of steps using the LEVEL knob. This setting affects all patterns in a project, but can be overridden on a per pattern basis in the PATTERN SETTINGS menu. There the USE PRJ SET setting can be unchecked, allowing for a unique chaining behavior for the chosen pattern. Read more about the PER TRACK mode and the master length setting in section “12.15 SCALE SETUP” on page 78. Read more about the PATTERN SETTINGS menu in section “12.11 PATTERN SETTINGS MENU” on page 75.
      In Pattern Settings menu:
      USE PAT SET. CHAIN BEHAVIOR specifies for how long the active pattern will play before a cued pattern will start playing. To be able to change this setting, the USE PRJ SET. setting below must be unchecked. If PLEN is selected, the pattern will, depending on if NORMAL or PER TRACK mode is active for the pattern, play either according to the total step length of the pattern or the set master length before a chained pattern will begin playing. The other values possible to set are indicated in pattern step lengths. If the chosen value starts to blink that indicates the value exceeds the length of the pattern. The pattern will then play as if PLEN would have been selected.
      USE PRJ SET. CHAIN BEHAVIOR will when checked use the chain behavior specified in the CHAIN AFTER menu. For more information, please see “8.6.3 SEQUENCER” on page 36.

    Hi Ehor, I was wondering what you can recommend for external hardware effects. Mainly delay and reverb. I was thinking eventide. Also, do you have a doscord server? I think it would be a great idea to grow your channel even more. 👍🏻

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Eventide must be a good investment. Tho I don't own any of their stuff (yet). I've got ZOIA that has me kinda covered for effects if I need them. However ZOIA lacks on the immediate control imho. Because it doesn't have knobs per param and everything is like "configuration" rather than playing with knobs around. That's why I am thinking to get some more pedals/fx in the future.
      I don't have my own Discord channel 😊 Maybe one day, but not now. Thanks for the idea!

    Hi Ihor. Dope stuff. Two Quick questions about the Digitakt "No kick routing" .1. In what menu do you set this up? I can't seem to find it anywhere. 2. Does this routing also exclude the kick track from beeing affected by CNTRL ALL functions for example CNTRL ALL - PitchDown?
    Love

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tymen! Thanks!
      What I do is I exclude kick from going into FX sends (reverb and delay). You can find it in Settings -> Audio Routing -> Send to FX. This will not send any signal into FX even if you turn sends on this track up. However it won't exclude the kick from being affected by any other CTRL+ALL manipulation. I wish Elektron ads this feature to the machines!!!

    Wouldnt it be best to use digitakt as the master? If you dont sample on digitakt, can you not just use the output of octatrack into input of digitakt? And then utilise the digitakts effects? I havent tried it yet but I think that config could be good no?

    Question: When I slowly fade between the resampled track 7 and the live machines I hear some phasing in my bassline. How can this be addressed? Thx for a great video.

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lan5! Thanks for watching.
      I've noticed this little phasing issue and I think it is kinda a natural thing. You can never have exactly the same sound, right? e. g. a little clock instability can cause it easily. Especially for a bassline sound, because waves are long and vulnerable to phase offsets. Basically if you are fading into the same, but recorded loop, do it faster 😁
      Someone told me that Delay Compensate (User Manual: 8.6.2 INPUT) fixes it, but I don't think it fixes it for this particular situation. But maybe?

    • @mindstuff417
      @mindstuff417 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IhorMedia Yes, you are right. In practice faster scene changes avoids the issue. I can do slow fades on the digitone or rytm, then resample, move to new pattern or tweak sounds.

    • @IhorMedia

    I would like to start produce own techno tracks and would like to know what I need. Budget is about 3000 Euros. I really like the Elektron hardware but don't know what do I need. Would a Rytm MK2 without anything else enough? Thank you in advance.

    • @IhorMedia
      @IhorMedia  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, Sir! It of course depends on many things and you may not even need any gear to produce music. Just a computer with daw is going to get you covered.
      Though if I had 3k to start with I’d consider getting Syntakt and Ableton Live Suite (or DAW of your choice). Assuming you have a computer already.
      Rytm is also a great option, but I think Syntakt holds a bit better value for buck.
