This is just a nice thing. He deserves a break and if anyone can say they love what they do it's him, the dedication and effort for such a long time is just amazing, and it's so nice to see a graceful departure from a creator without controversy
One thing is certain, mondays are going to be very different from now on. It truly is fascinating how few minutes every week make an impact, but they do. Tom has managed to make it to the end and he did it on his own terms, something that most other TH-camrs won't. An end of a era. Tom, thank you for the wonderful decade you gave us!
Actually just finished this video a few minutes ago. It's sad but understandable, every week for 10 years is a LOT of work. I doubt he'll stay gone (and he does still do other projects), but he definitely deserves a break.
Tom Scott is one of those youtubers who never really had any big controversies, and if he did make a mistake, like a missing citation, he'd immediatelly apologize and fixes the mistake. He is literally the gold standard of youtube educational journalism in my opinion.
I don't understand how someone can lose 8k subs from being offline for 4 days, like who keeps tabs on who they are subbed to so meticulously? I'd understand if it was 2 weeks or a month but just slightly over half a week? Insane
That's really nicefully and respectfully done Charlie. I'll miss Tom, he makes subjects I've never even given a passing thought to absolutely fascinating. Hes the kind of person you hope is teaching your kids every day, just instilling enthusiasm into any subject. Excellent points you make too Charlie about the constant grind i imagine you all feel, and the difficulties of self care. You take it easy man. And Tom, even if you never again lift a finger (highly doubtful) the legacy you have left will enrich so many lives. I hope you're proud. ❤❤
Tom Scott is one of those channels that is genuinely new and interesting every video. His monologues are always well thought out and the topics are interesting. I’m not an avid Tom Scott fan who watches every video, but he’s one of those channels that I’ll come back to or see on trending once in a while and will watch a video and just about always end up watching the whole thing and enjoying it. One of those TH-camrs that is just great at what he does.
He did it weekly for a decade. This is not just some mass-produced, blatant lies. His video are well researched and this is why I absolutely gonna miss him. I watch him ever since my account has been up (2018). This guy deserve his break. *_"Go forth and rest soldier, You done a great job"_*
It feels very bittersweet. It's sad to see him go, but I'm so glad he's taking a, frankly well earned, break. Thank you Tom for the content over all these years.
Pewds did the “Do less and be happier” thing wonderfully . He doesn’t post very often, he still does occasional “old style” videos . But most of his channel is just beautifully edited footage from his life as it is now . He lived the dream out , and is still just beginning . It’s awesome to see
true but coryxkenshin is a very unique example of a youtuber who can take long breaks and still have their adiuance there or even more (hes been gone for like 7 months now)
The fact that he was planing this from the beginning is kinda special, seeing as no big TH-camrs have done anything like this. Also the fact that he posted the video down to the minute really shows how much he loves this job
Tom Scott is an institution. Always fascinating down to earth content. Honestly, both happy and proud for him. He has definitely earned some time off. Just happy we were there for the ride!
He's such a consistent guy to be able to post weekly videos for so long. From one legend to another, I'm glad that Charlie is probably gonna be posting daily videos until he's 60. And for Tom, glad he's taking a much needed break to focus on family and friends
Making a career anywhere for 10 years is a huge accomplishment. Well deserved. Especially given that it was WEEKLY, meaning it could've easily been closer to daily work towards each video.
no shit it is closer to 'daily' work; he travelled the world every week for 10 years; oh wait, you think script writing, and finding those locations, and talking to those people and getting permission to go on their property, not to mention the editing, etc.... you think mentioning that it was daily work? NO FCKING SHT
I watched the actual video, it was a nice send off for Tom. His face when his feet left the ground, watching him float off into the sunset, it was a great video to watch.
He has an extremely viral video where the title of the video correctly shows the amount of views he currently have in that video. Thats how most people found him.
@@sharpieman2035 he must be under a rock I guess. But I’ve been watching TH-cam since 2004, and never heard of him. But since there are a lot of youtubers, it makes sense.
Honestly he could become one of those creators who post high quality content once a year and i'd be fine with it. Like he could spend a week a year making a video, or whenever it feels like it, and i'd be okay with it. Feels like he deserves to be able to do that.
As someone who's been doing this for 16+ years.. It's hard to take a break cause I always feel like I'm lazy or missing a day. I'm going to miss Tom Scott uploads. Even though I didn't watch everyone of his uploads, I did enjoy them.
Tom Scott is a huge person that has affected millions of people’s lives, his videos have literally been used at my school to teach so that says a lot, love ya Tom
I watched this video the second it came out. I remembered he told us this back in 2022 that he would stop at 2024. Glad he will still hang around but I’ll definitely miss his daily upload schedule. A video a week every 10 years is incredible.
It's crazy how big this universe of TH-cam is. I've been on the platform since 2008 and have watched near daily since probably around 2010-2011 and have not once heard of this guy, but see so many that have a great love for Tom and his content. There are so many channels that I will absolutely never hear of or see that have millions upon millions of subscribers. TH-cam is an endless abyss.
I feel the same when i find a channel that has millions of subs that i just learn about, and their videos appeal to me a lot, how did i not see this over the last decade and a half.
As someone who is now working on Game Design, which is literally a childhood dream, I feel this. A job still a job, I worked several jobs before this one and I thought it would be different and in a way it is, it drains you a lot more because of your passion, you WILL pour your hearth and soul into it, no matter what.
There's been few other TH-camrs as legendary as Tom Scott. Being able to put out meaningful, unique, high quality content that often involves traveling and filming on location is just unparalleled.
Him and pewds have both done a PHENOMENAL way of taking a step back from content I am SO happy that they took the time to just go and do their own thing

Whats heart warming are the comments on his video, the ogs and the best "channels" also recognized his immense dedication, while its sad to see him retire, it is a long earned one that he did got it.
I'm so glad you covered this/him I've never heard of him until now. I hope he comes back but after a long well-deserved break! I just got done looking at all of his videos and good Lord he has been busy as hell for so long!
Tom is the only guy that I have watched that does his videos in one take, a massive script and no teleprompts. Just a pure soul that can keep you hooked with his stories or knowledge. You can't hate him. Happy he is doing what's best for him.
Tom is insane the amount of effort and determination his entire career must've taken is wild. If anyone deserves a step back it's our boy. God Speed Tommy Boy God Speed
Been following Tom since his first episodes of "Things you may not know"... 10 years... Awesome TH-camr and one of the few shining examples of a creator. Thankfully, he gave us a heads up last year that this was coming so the "damage" is low. I hope sometime in the future to see another video from him educating me on things i had no idea about, but his life and wellbeing comes first... and he has more than earned a break lol.
As someone who has never watched a Tom Scott video, I still wanna congratulate him on 10 years of consistent uploads and passion. I'm happy that he has found such success, but I'm happier to hear that he is prioritizing his happiness. Good on you, Mr. Scott. I hope the best for you in the future.
Oh you have an excellent back catalog to go through. My personal favorite was the technical difficulties where he'd hang out with 3 buddies and do stuff like make up Wikipedia articles
Thanks, Charlie for the kind words about a guy that I and many, many others will miss a hell of a lot. My general knowledge is probably better than 80% of the population (not because I'm smart but because I enjoy learning stuff I'll most likely never need) and Tom still taught me so much. I'm sad but at the same time, I'm happy he threw it in as I'd hate to see him burn out. I've been watching Tom since not long after Boom Tiss so, longer than 10 years; I remember him running for government. It has been a great joy to share his journey and I wish him the very best and congratulate him on being smart enough to know when it's time to take a break.
I truly hope for the best for Tom on this. Take any amount of time you need, and want. I’ve loved experiencing so much vicariously through your channel. If you decide to come back because it will make you happy, we will welcome you back with open arms.
I was operating a roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas ( Iron Rattler ) ,when I noticed a man wearing a dark red shirt and blue jeans sitting by himself in the front row. Of all people, Tom Scott is sitting right in front of me. I had an internal freak out and said hello to him. He said hello back and I could tell that he wanted to have some space. I remember that he posted a video on overcoming his fear of rollercoasters so I was also a bit confused. Anyways, I was so baffled that I met Tom Scott out of all people. He was by himself, and he also seemed a bit tired or sad. I gave him his space and we both went about the rest of our days!
Personally, I would love to see a small update video from Tom Scott in 1 year. Just something to show that he’s doing well and enjoying his well-deserved break. ❤
I'm certainly going to miss his weekly videos, but if anyone's earned a break, it's Tom Scott! He's easily one of the best TH-camrs out there. His videos have no fluff, no padding, no filler. There's no 3-minute long ad reads, no dragging out a 4 minute story into a 30 minute video just to appease 'The Algorithm'. They're short and sweet and straight to the point, but he puts in a ton of effort into every video and always makes them interesting. His videos are easily some of the most binge-able and re-watchable content on TH-cam. He actually goes to the places he's talking about instead of just standing in front of a green screen. He talks to the people involved and allows them the time to speak and explain things without interrupting them or making it all about him. It's great to watch. He will certainly be missed. I can see him taking an approach similar to Jontron from now on, where he only puts out a video like once every 6 months or so, or whenever he feels likes like it, but it's so high quality that it's worth the wait. I don't think anyone would begrudge him for doing that.
Tom Scott is an absolute youtube legend. His videos are the epitome of youtube content unlike some other content creators who take his and other peoples videos and make a 12 minute video repeating exactly what they said in their video
I don't know if anyone here knows about him, but about 1-2 years ago, a very famous german TH-camr called GermanLetsPlay "GLP" also departed and it was a real toll, because he was there since the early days of TH-cam and was always this masked figure. No one knows how he looks like except his closest friends. Tom Scott's departure reminds me of him.
Man, this feels like the last day of highschool. You knew it would end sooner or later but time flew by in an instant. The bittersweet nostalgia hits you like a freight train. Time to say goodbye. For now. Ever so grateful to Tom!
This got me thinking about what I might do for my first video of the year. I have a video that recently blew up a bit and i wanted to talk about it a bit but I also wanted to establish my "new years resolutions" and what they would probably mean for the channel. I also believe this is why I struggled to take off since about 2016. Between life getting in the way and needing to step away for either mental health or other reasons I lost any kind of viewers i did get...well that and my content is pretty ass honestly but I enjoy making it so im happy. I believe this is why I've always said that youtube will always be a hobby to me because trying to keep it for a job is alot and I don't even have enough footing to make it my job anyway right now.
Tom has been travelling pretty much non-stop for a decade. He didn't need to film every interesting thing on location but he did. And even then he never missed a beat. He deserves to rest.
He's been pumping out unique high-quality content for over a decade. A well-deserved rest and change-up for Tom.

I doubt he'll stay gone (and he does still do other projects), but he definitely deserves a break.
insanely consistent
Tom Scott is one of those youtubers who never really had any big controversies, and if he did make a mistake, like a missing citation, he'd immediatelly apologize and fixes the mistake.
He is literally the gold standard of youtube educational journalism in my opinion.
I don't understand how someone can lose 8k subs from being offline for 4 days, like who keeps tabs on who they are subbed to so meticulously? I'd understand if it was 2 weeks or a month but just slightly over half a week? Insane
Seems like it went up by ~190k in those 4 months.
The ending made me cry the first time I watched it. He's a fkn legend man, he deserves this break.
Pewds did the “Do less and be happier” thing wonderfully .
He doesn’t post very often, he still does occasional “old style” videos .
But most of his channel is just beautifully edited footage from his life as it is now .
He lived the dream out , and is still just beginning . It’s awesome to see
Pewds kid is gonna grow up well
I believe his name is Björn 💛@@weplo1597
He's just living out his best life with his wife and kid in Japan. Really happy for him.
true but coryxkenshin is a very unique example of a youtuber who can take long breaks and still have their adiuance there or even more (hes been gone for like 7 months now)
so there is expections but he has a pretty loyal fan base
The fact that he was planing this from the beginning is kinda special, seeing as no big TH-camrs have done anything like this. Also the fact that he posted the video down to the minute really shows how much he loves this job
IM BETTER THAN THIS TRASH TH-camR CRY ABOUT IT KIDS UTTP WINS
Tom Scott is an institution. Always fascinating down to earth content. Honestly, both happy and proud for him. He has definitely earned some time off. Just happy we were there for the ride!
Institution?
Tom should be given some sort of award from TH-cam. One of the most beloved creators on the platform.
He's such a consistent guy to be able to post weekly videos for so long. From one legend to another, I'm glad that Charlie is probably gonna be posting daily videos until he's 60. And for Tom, glad he's taking a much needed break to focus on family and friends
hes jesus hes going to be making daily uploads for way longer than 60
One of my favs. I'm kinda happy he made this move because posting such contents regularly for a decade takes a lot of dedication

He actually made a joke “I haven’t been to space, haven’t bungled under a helicopter”
He foreshadowed it lol
I love how, if one was without the context of watching Tom's video, reading that would be so confusing.
@@StranaHyenalol
His channel has always been one of my favorites. I cried a little watching his goodbye video.
Never heard of him, but I hope he takes a good and healthy break.
He has an extremely viral video where the title of the video correctly shows the amount of views he currently have in that video. Thats how most people found him.
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 and garlic bread to space
How have you never heard of Tom Scott? Man’s under a rock’s rock.
@@sharpieman2035 he must be under a rock I guess. But I’ve been watching TH-cam since 2004, and never heard of him. But since there are a lot of youtubers, it makes sense.
@@Zeltaris not even the garlic bread in space bit? that was quite viral
Honestly he could become one of those creators who post high quality content once a year and i'd be fine with it. Like he could spend a week a year making a video, or whenever it feels like it, and i'd be okay with it. Feels like he deserves to be able to do that.
Definitely. I could never be a youtuber because of this issue, the constant content-pumping
Like Sam O'Nella? True.
oddly enough that reminds me of another tom: tom7 aka suckerpinch that does this exact thing and hes one of my favorite channels
Its like losing a really close person because they move away you know its the best for them but it still breaks your heart.
As someone who's been doing this for 16+ years.. It's hard to take a break cause I always feel like I'm lazy or missing a day.
I'm going to miss Tom Scott uploads. Even though I didn't watch everyone of his uploads, I did enjoy them.
Tom Scott is a TH-cam hero, he deserves some chill time now. And that bit with the helicopter was super cool, glad he finally managed to fit that in.
I'm legit sad but happy for him. I loved how he went out with his last video, finally flying high in a harness lol
Same here, I'm actually going to go check him out now. Better late than never, I guess
I feel the same when i find a channel that has millions of subs that i just learn about, and their videos appeal to me a lot, how did i not see this over the last decade and a half.
Crazy how long he’s been going for much respect just like Charlie 💪🏽💪🏽

As someone who is now working on Game Design, which is literally a childhood dream, I feel this. A job still a job, I worked several jobs before this one and I thought it would be different and in a way it is, it drains you a lot more because of your passion, you WILL pour your hearth and soul into it, no matter what.
There's been few other TH-camrs as legendary as Tom Scott. Being able to put out meaningful, unique, high quality content that often involves traveling and filming on location is just unparalleled.
honestly he deserves it weekly videos for 10 years is crazy
Right? No holidays or vacations for a least 10 years is nuts!
as a Tom Scott viewer it's really gonna be hard to get used not seeing regular Monday uploads anymore. But I'm still very happy for Tom.
Him and pewds have both done a PHENOMENAL way of taking a step back from content I am SO happy that they took the time to just go and do their own thing
Was waiting for pewdiepie to be mentioned on the retired list 😅, both phenomenal creators taking well deserved time off
Filthy Frank too for the absolute turnaround from terminally online degenerate to emo musician

Tom really deserves this break, no matter how long it may be. Thanks for reflecting on Tom's success and his good bye video!
We'll miss him and long for his eventual return
Tom Scott deserves a knighthood - he is the best of humanity, wrapped up in a sweet British nerd.
An OBE for Service to Science, the Internet and Education should be order
Sir Tom Scott has a very nice ring to it ngl

Totally understandable he's taking a step back! Truly amazing person and educator. Really appreciate all his effort throughout the years (:
Tom is insane the amount of effort and determination his entire career must've taken is wild. If anyone deserves a step back it's our boy.
God Speed Tommy Boy God Speed
Been following Tom since his first episodes of "Things you may not know"... 10 years...
Awesome TH-camr and one of the few shining examples of a creator. Thankfully, he gave us a heads up last year that this was coming so the "damage" is low. I hope sometime in the future to see another video from him educating me on things i had no idea about, but his life and wellbeing comes first... and he has more than earned a break lol.
"So you've learned to teleport" was when I went from seeing a video here and there when shared with me, to actively seeking his stuff out
As someone who has never watched a Tom Scott video, I still wanna congratulate him on 10 years of consistent uploads and passion.
You really should indulge in a few of his videos. Yo will be entertained and learn shit at the same time.
@@marvindebot3264 I like learning things and being entertained. With this making the 2nd recommendation I've received, I will check his content out

I have somehow never heard of this guy before, but I always love hearing a happy story.
Sounds like I've got a decade of content to catch up on!
We saw it coming since he announced this break one year ago, he will still be missed.
His presence will be sorely missed - but good for him.
Wow. You've been watching Tom for even longer than I have. I found him early in the Things You Might Not Know days. But the earlier videos are fun.
He is amazing on this platform.
We were definitely blessed to have him on this site!!
He deserves it!!
Godspeed to you kind sir!!!!
I'm happy for Tom! I'm glad he's getting some well-deserved rest. Time to binge back a few videos just for the occasion. :)
Man, to produce the content of quality he did for 10 years STRAIGHT?!?! That's insane. Good for him to take a break!!
Just wait until we tell him about Matpad leaving soon aswell
Grandpat is gonna be so weird to get used to
Hopefully Charlie talks about Matpat's influence as well
Congratulations to him! Speed running your career in 10 years is so impressive, especially at the scale he did
Personally, I would love to see a small update video from Tom Scott in 1 year. Just something to show that he’s doing well and enjoying his well-deserved break. ❤
Good for Tom can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. I hope he has a wonderful year and many more after this.
Tom is an absolute legend. I wish only the best for him.
Tom is the man that got me into science and learning, and allowed me to get in a good school because he inspired me to learn. We love u scott!
Been watching him for years, I'm happy he is taking a break.
I got to admit he can easily take a break with all the great videos he made, TH-cam's algorithm suggests me them all the time
I doubt his regular views drop much at all
I've actually never heard about him or had TH-cam recommend him to Me. But good for him.
10 years and TH-cam hasn’t recommended him to me yet, never heard of him until now.
Tom Scott is an absolute youtube legend. His videos are the epitome of youtube content unlike some other content creators who take his and other peoples videos and make a 12 minute video repeating exactly what they said in their video
I'm actually glad he can persue other projects!
Awesome guy.
Dude was totally awesome and flying away under a helicopter is a sick way to go out.
Good for him, he truly deserves this break
Man, this feels like the last day of highschool. You knew it would end sooner or later but time flew by in an instant. The bittersweet nostalgia hits you like a freight train. Time to say goodbye. For now. Ever so grateful to Tom!
😭🥺
Even though he's flying away into the sunset, he's still one of the most down to earth people I've had the pleasure of watching on this platform.
This is how you know how big TH-cam is…I have never heard of him. Now I’ll check him out.
You're gonna have an amazing month binge watching him. Enjoy!
Tom has been travelling pretty much non-stop for a decade. He didn't need to film every interesting thing on location but he did. And even then he never missed a beat. He deserves to rest.
if anyone deserves a break, then that person should be Tom Scott.
every single week for 10 years, top-quality content on youtube like none other.
