When do you personally think that people are old enough? I'm curious because it is difficult for me to imagine that someone could be much different between 17 and 18 just because of a birthday, so even 18 would seem too young if 17 is. Then people seem barely more mature at 19, they even seem foolhardy and childlike at 20. He asked 'Why do I need to point it out that stuff like this is bad'? Something I've been noticing was that a lot of anime have been reflecting this kind of mindset as BAD (coughcough Mushoku tensei) so they could have their cake and eat it too.. Example : The plot of the aforementioned show tries to act like it's 'the MC learned their lesson, sexualizing and taking advantage of children is bad', but in actuality it's not. It leads a lot of people to make excuses for these kind of characters, like Rudy; who straight up grooms, molests, and rapes kids as a ~45 year old grown man trying his best to portray himself as an actual child, so he had a better chance at getting away with the things that he'd done.. Only for the show to try to justify their actions as not bad, or a joke (haha funny 'wake up or ill attack you' while theyre asleep while playing silly music as theyre getting molested); or even worse.. them 'getting better' somehow, even though he has his arms wrapped around his 'wife' he deflowered at 16 (then put the blood stain from the hymen break in his ''shrine'') and in the other, his cousin; both of which he groomed, molested, and raped. It's horrifying thinking about the lengths people will do to justify his actions, not gunna lie. Another example would be a lot of the vtubers (and in general just vtubing popping off) like gura, which is legit an adult acting like a child anime girl towards a mostly adult audience. I remember recently they popped on a screen during a baseball game and sung the pledge of allegiance; only for the adults to think it was just some character from a kids cartoon... can you blame them? I fear for them if they looked them up on google, considering how much their eyebrow would raise in even their promotional art. And you'll still see people defend this kind of stuff by going 'it's fiction' or 'theyre actually 9001 years old so its fine', and those same types of people usually leak into being a big contributor of the same question you're asking now. Why is this related to real life, when it's 'fiction'? Well, I know this is surprising to hear this for some people (especially the ones who will go 'imagine comparing fiction to real life'); while you can't fully compare your opinions on fictional media (just kus you kill people doesnt mean youre gunna do it in real life) to real life, there's definitely some things you can take from someone liking or doing certain things, especially depending on the kind of media you're watching. It's not that I think that someone would become Rapist Rudy because they enjoy stuff like Mushoku Tensei; it's that watching media that sexualizes kids that are under 18, especially one that's incredibly hypocritical in the idea that it tries to act like they're 'getting better but not really because most of the characters, world and even the show itself says otherwise regardless of being one of the main plot points' really helps desensitize people towards these kind of things in the 'wrong' type of way BECAUSE it's fictional, and can use that excuse.. which definitely leaks into the real world due to how popular anime is now. I mean hell, the millitary recruiters at the con I went to legit had multiple Call of Duties to play at their booth to attract potential people to recruit. It's not about them being potential killers, it's about them being more 'desensitized' and 'attracted' towards this stuff. The fact I have to explain this to people who make excuses about it being 'fiction', hits home on the issue I'm talking about. It reminds me of the very people who would argue that it's ''fictional so noone gets hurt'; or who would call others 'tourists' whenever someone pointed out how grotesque it was that they were sexualizing some kid in an anime for the hundredth time or something.. As if that somehow makes you look any better. thank you for my tl;dr ted talk

Yes, there’s a huge difference! It’s crazy how people are defending this, acting like seventeen is a perfectly appropriate age because it’s legal in some states. Places where the age of consent is 16, mean it’s legal for 16 and 17 year olds to sleep with each other. Not a 25 year old!
Yeah, according to most of humanity billions of people 17 is an adult. But yeah, 17 is such a child in america, first if you are 17 you are automatically brain dead, and she just stopped with diapers a week before she lied her into the party with the older dudes.
17 is still a minor, but definitely not a child lol. It's funny when y'all act like 17 is a "child" in cases like this, but any other time people get upset when older teens are referred to as kids.
Ok, I think there is a distinction between a teenager and a child bc I would also say an 18 year old is still mentally a teenager but they’re allowed to consent. My thing is, you shouldn’t be sleeping with a teenager. Teenagers are still in a group that can be/is often taken advantage of, and we need to start pushing that narrative more. And the fact that he was WARNED and still proceeded to engage is already crazy enough and leaves me without a doubt he would go lower.

Always loved Cody Ko. Probably going to unsub after he addresses it or if his next video on his main channel doesn't address it. For now, I think there are better things to watch.
It’s simple. Kody saw a young girl willing to throw herself at him, desperate for attention, and took advantage of that and her naivety. She’s an adult now, she clearly regrets it now, because that’s what happens when you grow up. You regret being taken advantage of because you know better now. This isn’t a love story this is a cut and dry “Cody wanted to have sex with and take advantage of a minors willingness to want to be famous” I don’t like Tana. But I definitely understand the power balance at play. If Cody just came out about it he’d have a better chance at damage control, but censoring this for so long has done way more damage to his image and brand. Because people are upset and started digging. And discovered he’s besties with an actual rapist, and him and his wife have a history of hanging out with teenage girls, giving them vapes, etc. just weird shit! It’s 2024, don’t hang out with teenagers if you’re an adult. Simple. They are not at your level mentally even if they or you think otherwise.
she literally said she had been a fan of him since she was a kid- which is crazy to think about considering she was 17. and she was at a party drinking alcohol. she was clearly so vulnerable where she may have been willing but was clearly being taken advantage of. I wonder if Cody asked her not to tell anyone- esp if Gabbi noticed. If so- that's literally the definition of grooming. Telling a minor "hey can we keep this a secret, you wouldn't want people to cancel me for statutory would you ? 🥺" The more you think about the situation the more obviously gross it becomes.
Idk much anout Tana but from what I do know she had a rough home life growing up, and dealt with addiction/substance abuse issues. She wasn't just a teenager she was a particularly vulnerable one
It definitely feels like Cody has been relying on the fact that Tana is seen as a controversial and unlikable figure so he knew people would jump to discredit her and defend him. If he did this to a 17 year old Emma Chamberlain, there's NO WAY this many people would've turned a blind eye and ignored this story for so long.
You know what Kelsey and Cody did to a 16 year old Emma chamberlain tho?? 😬 gave her her first juul hit on camera. She looked up to them and they did that. And now she has a nicotine addiction. So yikes (as an understatement). I recommend watching the video, it's weird

Usually states with lower age of consent laws those age of consent don’t apply if you’re over 21. They’re designed so a high schooler doesn’t go to jail for sleeping with their 2 years younger partner
@@purringbluzzmuffin8030 absolutely not incorrect. A lot if most states have statutes when they have age of consent under the age of 18 making it null and void to people over 21 to prevent predator pervs like the ones trying to defend Cody Ko.
Age of consent is difficult even in law when it comes to certain cases. Most of the time though, if you are age of consent, you can be with anyone else also under age of consent, no matter the age difference. However, courts would look at the case specifically and try to identify other markers of power imbalance in a relationship, IE someone being someone's boss, someone being a teacher etc. But, legally speaking, being a minor, but over age of consent doesn't matter that much in law regarding sexual conduct. In most states it's 16, another chunk is 17 and the least common is 18. People just use 18 as the overall one because it is the highest and therefore safe in every state age and considered federal age of consent. There are laws regarding people under age of consent with others also under age of consent, which might be what you were thinking of. I don't however know how it works if two people from different states with different laws work. I think most courts wouldn't care or take a case, unless there were other legal matters at play between high schoolers of whatever age ranges being with each other. Courts are aware that teens have sex and usually in 3 years or so their age range. Laws differ in different states and it's considered illegal to try to cross state lines so that the sexual relationship is "legal" in that state. Basically, you'd need to talk to a lawyer to really know or not. Easier to just assume 18. Second the law specifically pertains to sex consent. It is not illegal to date or have a relationship with someone under consent range. A 15 year old could date a 20 year old so long as sex isn't involved, say in the case of two asexuals or people waiting till marriage or similar. That said, courts would generally doubt that if the people are together that sex or sexual acts aren't involved.
@@vixxcelacea2778 of the states and US territories with consent ages under 18 years 18 of them have age restrictions in which the age of consent is only legal within a certain amount of years, compared to 23 that allow unrestricted at under 18. I think the reality is moreso that today’s world with social media reveals more of those people than it used to. Now we actually have to constantly either make that choice to accept people’s mistakes and still try to support them, or be forced to ostracize and remove those people from our lives. To me I doubt this stuff happened less often, or was more harshly criticized in previous times. In fact quite the opposite is what’s considered the truth. People used to actually just get away with doing this stuff before and it would just be swept under the rug or never get enough publicity. Hell 30-40 years ago it was still considered normal to be messing around with high school age girls as a grown man. The reason it seems more prevalent than ever before, is that people actually have a platform which they can use to speak out against these offenders on. More people get exposed for their horrific actions than ever before. It’s really a double edged sword though. Even tho now we have a truer idea than ever of how common grooming, trafficking, pedophilia, and basically all forms of sexual misconduct are (especially amongst the famous/social elites), it also sucks when you were a fan of someone and have to no longer support them because you realize what they’ve done behind the scenes. Especially because of how common it actually is. Glad we get to see who the true nasty people of this world really are, but doesn’t make it easier than the time of the world where this stuff was socially accepted, or didn’t ever have a place to be broadcasted publicly. Could only imagine how much worse things used to be before the current era of social media tho… scary that the world has legitamitely improved sm yet can still be such a bad place.
Don't shun people? Haha what? There are literally thousands of girls on Twitter currently looking for someone to cancel. What do you think cancel culture is?
I think you should try to help those people realize what they did was wrong and to change. And if they continue they’ve consciously made the wrong decisions and it’s okay if you don’t wanna be around them.
Appreciate and respect you (and many other popular youtubers) using your platform to talk about this. Us talking about these gross people is the only thing that takes away their power. We need to call out people no matter how famous they are
People are forgetting that he’s 25. He wasn’t in highschool with her and turned 18 while dating her or graduated. He was literally a working adult that’s 25 getting with a high schooler
Suppose she started working at 14 like some people actually do and was managing the house like some 14 year olds actually do and he was a 25 year old rich kid that never had real responsibilities and only parties? Who’s the more mentally mature one in that situation? I’m not saying this was the case here, but there’s more to it than just listing age when you’re thinking about who’s more mature and wise.
Dangelo Wallace summoned bigger youtubers to talk about this, hats off to him for using his platform and bringing attention to this topic as it involves a big youtuber, this is why I enjoy some commentary/drama news youtubers like Dangelo, Charlie, Kavos etc
Exactly D’Angelo tested the waters , called out his peers and now people will have to follow suit of else they’ll be one of the ones he criticized on his original video. It’s the push Charlie had to have to post this after a year of people asking him to make a video about it.
It’s fucking pathetic that big TH-camrs don’t have the moral backbone to say anything before they’re basically forced to. But I’m glad people are finally talking about it. D’Angelo has had a great impact and I really respect them for that
@chuutruther it's so lush to see a YTer who got huge, took a mental health break (and was open about it) and when he came back, his videos still blow up. He really deserves it and I'm glad he was brave enough to take the breaks and change his content's focus to better suit him and his morals 💕
I commented about a year ago about him staying friends with a rapist, the comment was gone within a half hour. I was testing to see because people's comments about his friend Colby and this Tana situation were all getting deleted almost immediately. Even a year ago, his comments were heavily censored whenever more people would start talking about these situations. The censorship isn't a new thing, and he didn't speak on either issue then either.
yep because i realized this situation was happening a month or two ago, and i monitored his comments to see if things were getting deleted. sure enough, only one that wasn’t deleted by mods was one saying “cody’s mods are working overtime,” and one that was using disguised language with capitalized letters

I’m 25 rn and teach at a high school. I see 17-18 year old girls every day and when I hear about stories like this, it makes me physically sick to think that someone my age would look at these children with sexual intent
i remember being 16 at my first job and hearing how my 24 year old manager would talk about my body and tell others what he’d do to me if it were legal. he’d randomly touch me on the shoulder or neck or act really gross. at the time i was so insanely flattered and naive i took it as a compliment. i’m 22 now and the thought of speaking like that or acting that way towards anyone 20 or under actually makes my skin crawl. do better.
I think these anecdotes are important to share because it can be hard to understand the impact of these types of crimes until you’re the age of the people committing the crimes
Thank you for sharing this, went through something similar at my first job and at the time I thought nothing of it due to my naïveté. I’m 20 now and have matured ALOT, looking back on it makes me feel genuinely sick as to how a 30 year old man behaved towards me when I was 17.
Ignore the weirdos trying to make you sound like you're oversharing or talking about something off-topic. It's absolutely on-topic. This is bigger than just Cody, and Tana has said that herself.
It's not only the age gap, but the power imbalance of the situation. Tana straight up said she "grew up watching him", he was already a big creator when she was a child. How does that not make the situation an automatic "nope"?
So she knew who he was and how old he was? At 17 you're legally a minor but youre not a moron. She knew what she was doing. She hasn't stated he forced her into anything. Mind you, I have never heard of this man before this scandal (I think maybe one other time in a podcast I listen to). And I actually kinda like Tana, all her bs aside. I used to watch her often when I was younger. And I remember being 17, I knew right from wrong. I knew what was legal and what wasn't. I will fully support her if she comes out and states he forced himself onto her. But it takes two to stand in a corner making out at a party. Tana may be dumb, but she's not stupid.
The ripple effect this is having since D'Angelo covered what happened is crazy and it's only been a day. I'm glad more people are seeing just how messed up the situation is and how deep it goes.
Everybody will try to cover their bums after his video. If you watched D’Angelo’s video he basically pushed hard for this response from Charlie and others to finally happen. He literally called out the big commentary channels for saying nothing. And D’Angelo literally said H3 covered this, it was not “a thing that one person said on one livestream and then deleted”. Charlie had people asking him to make a video a year ago, and spamming his chat for the last month. If D’Angelo didn’t literally call out the community Charlie would never talk about Cody Ko, because it’s Cody Ko, not a low hanging fruit. Charlie literally tries to explain himself here and doesn’t show most of the video where D’Angelo talks about the “boys club” of commentary content. I love Charlie but this one is very disappointing. He’s making this because he is trying to justify himself after being called out and that’s it. Charlie went a lot harder on Pokemane because of highly priced cookies!

I’m assuming most of the comments defending Cody are from teenagers who don’t understand why this is so disgusting because they just haven’t had the life experience to understand. As a 24 year old: please know that you will grow up SO much in the next few years. I am a completely different person from who I was at 17. You may not feel like it now, but once you get to the age Cody was when he slept with tana, 17 year olds will seem like actual babies to you. The maturity gap is insane. If you’re in your twenties or older defending this nonsense: someone needs to check your hard drive.
Yeah its kind of strange im 18 turning 19 in the next month and I grew up on youtube and the internet. So anytime I see something like this where it is with someone who is 16 plus it feels wierd because when I look at it logically it is not ok and I never defend the people who do this stuff exactly for that reason but as a 18 year old I (Wrongfully I know) feel that people near my age are capable of consent and that they can tell whats right and wrong. It also feels like there is not that much difference between me and someone in their 20s (again I logically know there is)
@@lucastobin6454 it's not wrong for you to think people 1-2 years from you in age are able to consent. because in relation to you they can. And here's how to make it easier for you to actually 'feel' instead of just rationally knowing how wrong the late teen-mid twenties age gap is: imagine your 17yo peer being interested in a 12yo. both are minors, but super fucked up, right?
The age of consent is 16 in the majority of states in America. 31 out of 50. In most of Europe its also around 16, in my home country Australia its 16 in almost every states and 17 in south Australia.
@@yuppieshrink9837But does that mean it's morally correct in those countries? NO, even 18 year olds are still children in my eyes. Instead of having relations with someone that is way below your age (and BELOW the age of consent), have relations with someone that is like idk... the same age as you????
putting an apology behind a paywall is nuts, like "hey, people, I'll only say sorry if you pay me, only those who pay are worthy of hearing me apologize"
Yall are dumb lmfao he put it behind a paywall so it wouldn’t get seen by most of his fans that didn’t already know about the controversy. It’s not that complicated
i feel like he also put the apology behind a paywall because there is an inherent bias in his favor because they are paying for his content, therefore may be less likely to respond negatively? which is foul regardless and it just seems as a way to deflect accountability lol
“There’s no perfect victim” I think that speaks for Tana and how people are dismissing the allegations because of her history. But everyone deserves to tell their side of the story and Cody’s lack there of just makes him look so guilty
You mean the woman whos entire career is based on stories that arnt true and is regularly caught lying......no way, cant imagine why people dont really care. Aside from the fact that in state where is happened it literally isnt a crime and the activity was consensual, so what are we even talking about. And for the record yes I do think the nationwide AOC should be 18, buts its not.
Nobody is dismissing Tana, if anything, her claims are being taken with a grain of salt. It’s a reap what you sow kind of thing. Now it’s weird as hell that a 25 to be with a 17 yo, but Tana has profited off her lies and scamming her followers and attempted character assassination. At for me, I want legit evidence, no he said she said.
There's a major difference between telling her story versus accusing someone of an actual crime. She needs to take it court. She has a past of lying for attention and causing drama for content. She lacks a credible reputation.
100% they did the same to Trisha Paytas who has been exposing creeps for 14+ years, but yea, she’s a crazy woman, a hysterical woman, so no one should believe her. The patriarchy in action.
Yea I agree and disagree. Until the further evidence I was unconvinced because she's made serious allegations that were lies in the past. There's no perfect victim sure but there's also a story we all heard about crying wolf
The argument that she was 17 which is basically 18 is wild to me. I’m three years younger than Cody was at the time of the incident, and the idea of doing what he did is so wrong to me. That’s a child. Even now, I wouldn’t date anyone younger than 21, that’s weird.
This is why Dr Disrespect's victim's name was heavily protected. Because Twitch knows that victims get blamed, ridiculed, and sent death threats. The side-by-side is wild, and is exactly why you should never pressure victims with shit like "Why didn't you report it earlier"
I don't think a saw a single person ask for the name of the victim in the Dr Disrespect situation. Most people were asking about the victim's age. People were mad that Twitch never reported that information publicly and even mad jokes about the reason for the ban.
@@GexraldH they didn't ask because they don't care...this is about public executions just like what Charles is doing here...he needs to stfu about this matter unless there's obvious evidence for it and its not 1 year difference...it isn't worth risking defamation for which this is...girls lie all the time about their ages (makeup exists)
@@figshwgIt’s one of the rumors but not proven. And don’t get it twisted, no one wanted the name of the victim. They even said if they wanted to protect the identity of the victim then censor it, they just wanted those whisper messages and Twitch absolutely did not tell anyone about the victim to protect them. They did it for the same reason that they paid him his contract in full. Twitch is staying mum because it would absolutely destroy them. Remember the Twitch whispers had not even officially launched. It was still in BETA. How do you know that they did it to cover their own butts? Disrespect said that he messaged the minor and Twitch has *still* remained silent on the situation.

I don’t know why the “17 is basically 18” argument is a thing. You don’t expect a bouncer to let you in a bar if you are 20 because your basically 21, if you are 15 you don’t expect to get a drivers license because your basically 16. These rules aren’t negotiable, you are either above or under the legal age of stuff there’s no gray area. Edit: For those saying “But the age of consent is *Blank* in this state so actually…” That’s not how the law works. If you sleep with a 16 year old in a state where the age of consent is 18 you are breaking the law. The age of consent varies from 12 to 21 years old across the world that doesn’t change the fact that if you sleep with someone under the age of consent you are breaking the law even if it’s different somewhere else.
Yeah, by that logic 16 is basically 17. If 17 is ok so 16 should be too right. It's such a gross nonsensical rule made by people who just want to take advantage of minors. And pretty much everyone of these people are in or over their mid twenties which should indicate their intentions.
Guys you do know this 18 is the limit is only in SOME parts of the world. Italy has it at 16 I think. Mexico at 14. Literally if he had sex with her at Italy he would be fine but now in America it’s pedo? lol
The silence too, I've hearing about this on tiktok for WEEKS and I've been looking at youtube like... This is huge... Where are the videos where is everyone??
D’Angelo’s video is great, but I also highly encourage you guys to watch Amanda Todhunter’s video too. It was released a day before D'Angelo’s video, and it contains an extra clip from a video Cody and Tana filmed together in which he quite literally acknowledges her age by joking about how she ‘knows all the slang the kids use’ and that he’s ’too old to understand any of it’.
There was another TH-camr who talked about it even before that. Almost as soon as Tana’s story gained traction. I can’t remember who since I follow so many in the commentary space and yeah, a lot of them are mum about this.

And for literally having the balls to call out the “boys club” on the commentary channels turning a blind eye to it. Watch the original video from D’Angelo if you haven’t.
this is just like in my little pony s5 when Discord wants to be a good guy, they don't accept him until he shows with actions that he deserves pity, he has to build him reputation up again before getting help from the pony's . Tana said the Nword a lot with hard r, that's kinda worse than what Cody did, Because Cody got comparatively more consent to do what he did than Tana, who got absolutely no consent from black people to say that word Tana is still bad so we should'nt give her pity

It's just kind of weird to some of us foreign people because where I live for example it's 16. Same with most of the world
@@shockwave826 I agree, as a non american woman in my early 20s Im finding this reaction a bit crazy idk. I mean just above this comment someone was talking ab how 17 year olds are children and i’m just thinking that there’s no way they’re being for real like yeah maybe 17 and 24/25 is kind of weird but ppl are acting like it’s a 9y/o child and a 50y/o man, it’s insane.
Why tf is it so difficult for people to NOT have sxual relations with someone under 18?

It’s simple. Kody saw a young girl willing to throw herself at him, desperate for attention, and took advantage of that and her naivety. I don’t like Tana. But I definitely understand the power balance at play. If Cody just came out about it he’d have a better chance at damage control, but censoring this for so long has done way more damage to his image and brand. Because people are upset and started digging.
Usually states with lower age of consent laws those age of consent don’t apply if you’re over 21. They’re designed so a high schooler doesn’t go to jail for sleeping with their 2 years younger partner
Absolutely incorrect.
I felt sane hearing Charlie say that he can’t be cool with people who have done some awful things. I have blood family who have done some awful things and people around me choose to ignore it, but I cut them out of my life. It’s crazy how we don’t shun people for shit nowadays and just ignore it.
I've stopped talking to some family members too and it gives your life peace ❤
I completely agree with you on the fact that people should not associate with others who have done deplorable and unforgivable things. Where I do disagree tho is saying in today’s world we “don’t shun people and ignore it”. That’s quite literally the opposite of what the current state of the world is in my opinion. Cancel culture and jumping onto exposing the latest celebrity is more popular than ever.
@@bruderschweigen6889 Shunning is not the same thing as "canceling", lmfao. Someone getting "Cancelled" literally is a boost to them, lmao.

At for me, I want legit evidence, no he said she said.
There's a major difference between telling her story versus accusing someone of an actual crime. She needs to take it court. She has a past of lying for attention and causing drama for content. She lacks a credible reputation.

Its nice to see more people talk about this! I saw Lewis Mclung talk about this 3 WEEKS ago and was so confused that nobody had mentioned it.
