I remember watching this as a 16 year old in theaters and absolutely loving it. Jet Li was absolutely a rockstar in those days. Also, SMOOOOTH transition into that sponsor segment.
Jet Li fighting the two parkour Eminems while Mystikal yells “BIG T*TTY B*TCHES CATCHIN’ MYSTIKAL FEVER!!” in the background was the most unrelated, yet appropriate, fight music of all time. Jet Li and early 2000’s rap were made for each other.
Fun fact: the "Eminem" guy, is Cyril Raffaelli , a French stuntman/ martial artist/ actor and one of the pioneers of Parkour. He was one of the first guys who started the Parkour/ Free Running movement in the late 90´s and has been in tons of movies. Check out the 2 "District 13" movies, where he´s starring alongside David Belle, who is known as "the father of Parkour". (he´s also a stuntman/ martial artist/ stunt coordinator/ actor). They´re really fun action movies and there´s even a Hollywood remake, starring the late Paul Walker.
The rabbit is a symbol of intellect and cautiousness. Turtle is among others the symbol of long life and endurance, so it kinda makes sense that Inspector loses it and then his world falls apart. The fight with "black belts" is most likely a nod to Bruce Lee's fight in "Fist of Fury". BTW Jet Li was the guy who introduced me to kung fu cinema (Once Upon a Time in China 1 & 2. which I still love dearly), which evolved into my growing interest in Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema in general, about which I write in my home country nowadays.
Ah man. I remember we rented a VHS copy of this movie from Blockbuster. But when we played the movie, inside it had Milla Jovovich's Joan of arc. They didn't even bother rewinding the tape lmao
Cyrill Raffaelli is a genuinely underappreciated martial arts talent, his skills best shown in the District-B13 films (which are awesome) On that note, I do find it funny that you call him Eminem in this video; I won't be able to unsee this moving forward.
This movie is one of Jet Li's best Western movies. It's also very nostalgic for me, because my grandpa loved watched Kung Fu movies on the weekend with me, and this was one of our last together.
