I just test drove one of these today and it was truly amazing! I know Thomas talked about the harsh acceleration but Bentley says this is the fastest accelerating SUV in the world. The way this SUV picked up speed was exhilarating. Its not like a normal Bentley ( like the Continental Gt of which i've driven) where its not fast but its "quick" in the sense that it accelerates quickly without throwing your head in the headrest. The Bentayga is fast and I love it!

Yes but you cannot see the floorpan. However, that wonderful Aston Martin 5.9 V12 engine does have idlers bearings from a Ford Transit van..... so nothing is new !

+TacoSeniour technically it's an Audi Q7 look at the buttons and the electronics. The MLB platform designed by Audi (not VW) is used for all the premium SUV's of Volkswagen group, from the Q5 to the Bentayga. The Touareg will move on that platform with the next generation in 2017-2018.

Typical that the Side Scan did not work - modern complicated systems for you, I suppose. Or a software glitch - I don't know? But good that you did not edit this out, or edit out your attempts at looking through the menus trying to fix it - well done! Exciting trip on the autobahn at speed - but was the car that relaxing at high speed!? Great video.

One quick comment ... okay, maybe two. I wanted to say that I enjoyed your attention to details in this review. I am watching it about a year and a half after you first posted it, so some of the things you mentioned that were "in the works" are now a reality.
I also wanted to commend you on saying "head restraints" and not "head rests". A great deal of the reviews that I have watched recently incorrectly refer to them as HEAD RESTS.

Beautiful video..... really well presented.... and the Bentley seems a good proposition for just pottering around Glamourous regions....guess for every other purpose one cud easily prefer a Range Rover or Cayenne and be happy with it

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised how harsh the suspension seems to be. Every bump seems to come right through, and that's something I totally didn't expect in a really high end SUV like this :o A very interesting watch nonetheless!

Now first to the practical reasons:
1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
2. they are cold in winter
3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done.
Still, now to the environmental reasons:
1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals.
4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense.
5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.

I don't like when things are shoved down my throat and I am being told what to think. I like to make my own opinions on any subject if it is car, religion or politics. Need to stop judging people of their choice they make or opinion they have. If people are upset about animals being killed for car interiors, maybe they should choose a different car or car manufacturers should introduce an alternative for people who care about that. Not saying it is bad or that kind of stuff, just because it is your opinion and you have a platform to share it!
It's not my opinion, just stating facts. My opinion is that I love blue cars. That leather seats have massive negative impact on animals, humans and the environment is just fact. I wish they designed the exterior as "clean" as Continental GT.
But oh my goodness the interior colorway is gorgeous =)
boght 2017 Bentayga w12 for 110k and 2017 MB w222 S63 facelift with all options for 87k. Two absolutely best cars to drive. Also boght Supersports 2010, little riski business but what a nice feeling to drive it. And Panamera diesel 310kw, total joy. And Ford Rapror. These are cars to have and enjoy. I had 991 992 TurboS, which i sold and boght for the money Bentayga, S63 and Supersports, all for 992 tbs money!!!!
Also had new G63 and g400, sold both, Bentayga are way better, not so iconic but better.
So, i just prefer to enjoy life with those cars than without them))

It's not the prettiest car in the world, but in real life, it looks considerably better. My wife had seen pictures and a video of one and hated it. We pass one, the other day and I asked if she liked it... "Not bad", was her reply.

I agree that carbon fiber accents were not the optional choice for such a deep blue, one should always attempt to maintain a limited colour pallet to give the vehicle a complete and well thought out appearance.
This thing looks good on the right colour and rims. Plus without those body kits and spoiler

Yet another great review! It might be a Bentley but but I'm not so sure that it has that real British feel about it. IMO I think a top of the range Audi Q7 will be just as good. Save the money and used on a Porsche Cayman!!! Keep up the good work Thomas.

Thomas - towards the end you speculate as to why automakers love to advertise high maximum speed in their vehicles. The answer to WHY is now because of V.W. Group, they use their own personal proving grounds which has a 8.7KM or 5.4Mile straightaway that they (and they alone mostly) achieve the top speeds of their cars.

At 7:38, check the door handle - the double stitching does not line up with the double stitching on the door - it should!
It's done on purpose, now the inner stich comes together with the upper stich on the door.
No, the top stitching on the handle should perfectly line up with the top stitch line on the door - like it does on the RH door on that vehicle! Go to a showroom, or the factory tour. Or even better know the person who did that stitching!

It's just such a well made vehicle, like all Bentleys to be honest. Anyway, such a good review of it. Now let's wonder how close the all-new Touareg will drive at 1/4 the price. :)

;m enjoying this program on the Bentley Bentayga, but what spoils it so far is that bynthen time Thomas got round to showing all of the inside of the SUV and it's features, it was dark and spoilt it.

Hey Thomas, I think the suspension is not very good for the comfort because i saw that the car is shaking to much when you start the driving test part. Ah and by the way can you but the second camera record the the cockpit and the road to the left driver window instead of the top that we can see the speed and the cockpit. thanks and very good review as usually.

great review thomas. i love the interior, i dont love the exterior. when its all said and done i look at the sticker price and raise an eyebrow. AUD $420k? crazy. i think id rather have a fully loaded audi q7, and a porsche 911 for the sporty stuff. and still have change left over for a nice holiday.

Young male Americans and Russians love to get on the autobahn and drive 350 kilometers per hour. This is putting ordinary German, French, English and other natives at very high risk!

I test drove and then bought a Bentayga. I love everything about it, BUT the brake is weird and the accelerator pedal is SUPER sensitive. I was really confused by this. I came from a Maserati GT, so I think I can get used to the Bentayga's pedals.
It seems to me like Bentley has taken parts of design from Audi on the steering wheel buttons and from Volvo on the other looks of steering wheel. And about the turning indicator sounds, I think that Range Rover/Jaguar has the best one at the moment, it gives a very good premium feeling!
