Marvel Animation during the 2000s and late 2010s was perhaps Marvel animation at its peak, and during the end of that era came ' The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes ', and incredible show that resonated with Marvel fans, old and young alike. The show ended up being a true gamechanger before the MCU / Marvel Cinematic Universe had any good legs to stand on, and in this video - we deep dive into the show, its stories and characters, and what it means to its fans.

I wrote the music for Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It was definitely a labour of love for all of us on the crew. Josh Fine really brought a fan's perspective to the narrative and the direction. It was a great deal of fun!

that's basically most of the 2000's cartoon shows. back when cartoons were mainly targeted at kids but still enjoyable for teens and adults. now we only have bs like apple and onion. but, we got invincible tho, hope they get on the track again.

@@johnnymanning2952 i've already watched spectacular spiderman too. it is great. i don't really like the art style much but the characters, storylines and animation more than makes up for it.
Fun fact: This project originally began as "Incredible Hulk: Gamma Corps" which was going to feature a combination of Hulk's Warbound and the hit squad from the Gamma Corps comic mini-series. With scripting for pre-production underway, it was felt that the creative work that was being done to bring Hulk's world and his villains to life was too good to relegate to his universe alone, and would be much better suited as part of an full-on Avengers adaptation.

If everyone enjoyed and made them money it wouldn't be cancelled, I think the key is the making money part in this case. And all good things have to come to an end, or turn shit. So I prefer an abrupt end
Even the entire meaning behind Bucky sacrificing himself is different in the movies and how. He sacrifices himself on his own terms in the show, realizing steve surviving is more important than them both dying whereas in the movie he just falls. His fate happens to him whereas in the show it's more of a tragic consequence of his choice

If I had a nickel for every time Marvel had an astoundingly well-made show that was canceled after the second season, I'd have at least two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's sad that it happened twice.

The way cap was replaced by the skrull was done so well it stressed me out every episode because of the fact that we knew it wasn't really cap lol.
Let's not forget this series showed us all how powerful and intimidating Doctor Doom is. The Avengers and Fantastic Four come in to take him on and he wipes the floor with them. All while using science, magic, and hand to hand combat. Doom is very powerful.

Why do I sense the mcu is gonna mess that up
The thing I'm most angry for is that this was the Marvel's DCAU. The same Yost has said it: Avengers: EMH, Wolverine and the X-Men and Spectacular Spiderman share the same universe (Spiderman is still debated but come on there are some lost Keaton Spiderman dialogue out there for the spider's introduction). Some of the best Marvel's series were supposed to share the universe and that was going to be explored in the Avenger's third season, with a formal crossover with the X-Men. They were going to have the Maximoff siblings, Ragnarok, House of M...
I always liked to believe that X-Men Evolution and Spectacular Spider-Man were in the same universe.

Spectacular is NOT officially canon with the others. That show was led by Greg Weisman and Victor Cook, rather than Chris Yost. Weisman and Cook had their own ideas for the other Marvel heroes. Yost wanted to use Josh Keaton as a nod to Spectacular, but that's about it.
In my headcannon, Fantastic four: World's greatest heroes is apart of the EMH universe.

Honestly, the comparison to Hamill’s Joker being the best voiced Joker to Ledger being the best portrayed Joker has the exact same effect to Loomis’ Iron Man voice here to Downey’s Iron Man. Downey may be a better Iron Man, but Loomis’ voice acting will always reign supreme, and I thank this show for it.
Loomis had to reprise the role on the What if...? miniseries
Downey will always be THE live action Iron Man, but the Iron Man voice acting in this and Ultimate Spider-man were both astonishing

Not to mention Peter Quill was voiced by the got damn Master Chief. That was an awesome moment. First years in the military and first time away from my family and watching these dvds along helped me find some joy while coping. And watching it with my friends i made are some of my favorite memories.
Avengers: EMH was Marvel's Young Justice or Justice League/JLU. I don't think a higher praise could be given. I was about 16 or 17 when it came out, so I can't say that I "grew up" with it. It wasn't my first exposure to the Avengers (that was unfortunately the garbage late 90s series), and it wasn't the first thing that got me interested in the Avengers and their characters (that was Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and for better or worse, Brian Michael Bendis's run, particularly New Avengers). What I can say, though, is that it actually made me appreciate classic Avengers and got me interested in looking into many of these characters and their classic stories more. It actually made me give a rip about Hank Pym, Hawkeye in his classic getup (I previously only liked him when he was Ronin because I hated his classic costume and thought he was dumb because of it), Black Panther, Kang and Ultron. Shoutout to the main writer, Christopher Yost. I don't know anyone who considers him one of the all-time greats in comics, but when he still consistently wrote comics, I always remember him as one of the most consistently entertaining (please have him come back to write Spider-Man or the X-Men again). The late 00s, very early 10s were a new renaissance of superhero animation that sadly got cut short before its time due to one combination or another of company obsession with toy sales/appealing to "too wide of an audience," company buyouts (mostly Disney not wanting people to continue to love things that they themselves didn't have a hand in creating now that they finally owned all of the animation rights), and general destruction of quality action cartoons because companies wanted to make things as cheap and fast as possible, resulting in the glut of lowest common denominator comedies and terrible, meta, beanhead style reboots. Avengers: EMH and the other great but cut-short action shows of its time will be sorely missed. At least Young Justice came back.
Well only Young Justice Season 1 was good, Invasion had a slow start for me but it reached season 1 excellence later on, but man I'm struggling to make it through Outsiders
Disney just wanted to be the creator of everything. Even if what they made was worse than what came before. It happened with EMH, Spectacular Spiderman and Clone Wars. All great show, all that got cancelled before their time because Disney wanted to its own thing. That is why I get really angry when one of the hşgher ups in Disney says that they want to create great stories first. They do not, they want to create things that earn them money, even if what they make is bad. It happened with Avengers Assembel and Ultimate Spiderman (Rebels had great moments but Im 100% convinced those happened thanks to Dave Filoni and the Clone Wars team dispite Disney, not thanks to Disney)
Yeah, Ultimate Alliance introduced me to the huge world of Marvel. Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes showed me what you can do with that huge world. Dived deeper into all these worlds. Gave me a definitive version of these characters, and a jumping off point for new characters.
@@itzmrinyy7484 I know what you mean by it, cause I've seen it for myself as well. And the changes is not for everyone to like about S3, having more new characters, new designs, rush action, rush development, and still continuing the plot of the light being the conflict again. It's flawed in the second half for sure. But I and some others did still enjoyed it. I know the writers should do better with the pacing the development but it isn't unbearable or unwatchable because of those issues and flaws. At least it's done better then some shows like RWBY for example. But you know it's fine. You don't have to watch it if you're not enjoying it.
Young justice season 1 was awesome. Season 2 was ok. Season 3 was woke infestation. It had potential on some elements but so many miss fires and hid behind poor execution. But hey the woke stuff was obvious at least.
For me, this was a Marvel version of Justice League and Unlimited. It wasn't about trying to tie a cartoon in with a movie. And the crossovers, absolutely fabulous.

This show improved upon the secret Invasion storyline. It also included one of my favorite quotes from that story which was Maria Hill complaining about the Helicarrier constantly conking out. For some odd reason, it's hard to find a clip of that scene anywhere.
Hawkeye became my favorite avenger because of this show, I loved how despite having no super soldier serum, armor or powers he kicked as much ass as the rest of the team and even saved them sometimes. Also, he had a really cool costume which the movies never made justice to.
The wasp is still my waifu.

I grew up watching this series learned who all the characters were from Mar-Vell to Black Panther to the Guardians of the Galaxy before their rise to fame. It brought fans of old and new ones together in a cohesive way where even if you did not know who they were originally you knew them well afterwards making it accessible for all fans. P.S. that theme song was awesome.
This is the definitive Avengers experience, 2010 man this along with Wolverine and the X-men, Spectacular Spiderman were what I feel rival the JL Animated universe. Damn this was great, broke my heart. All of these shows got cancelled.

Avenger's: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is a phenomenal show. First of all, the theme song caught me off guard because it sounds awesome. The stories and characters are written superbly in my opinion. And showing other Marvel characters was never in my expectations. I'm one of the few people who love Marvel animation more than the MCU. Is the MCU terrible? Not at all. I just hate that the shows Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Wolverine and the X-Men were cancelled in favor of it.

I feel so bad about this because the show (much like the DCAU in terms of quality) to me was truly one of the best things Marvel put out that, when it was closed, left us wanting more. We're starting to see a bit of a Resurgence in quality for Marvel animation with What If, but I feel like if EMH was brought back in some way (continued or featured in something big), it'd be a HUGE sign that the studio hasn't totally lost their touch (that is if Disney doesn't meddle in their quality and they get the right people to work on the show).
Maybe disney could revisit this show someday, like what they did with clone wars

Honestly the marvel animated stuff from late 2000s and early 2010's was better than the MCU.

There are three people who deserve a lot of credit for this show, Boyd Kirkland, Craig Kyle, and Chris Yost. Boyd Kirkland was the main director and story editor, Craig Kyle and Chris Yost were the main writers.
Not only were they responsible for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, they were also behind other great Marvel shows like Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men Evolution. They're like the Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett of Marvel shows.
Sadly, Boyd Kirkland passed away in 2011. Craig Kyle and Chris Yost are writing for Marvel movies now. They worked on Thor: Ragnarok. They also co-created X-23 and worked a bit on Logan.

At the time, I thought I knew Marvel so well because I knew Spider-man, the X-Men, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Fantastic Four. But in truth, this is what paved the way for my excitement for the MCU. We had Iron Man and Hulk, but this show gave me the knowledge of Thor, Captain America, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, and more that would later pay off when they brought those characters to life in the MCU. And the theme song rips!

I'm glad this video exists, this show among others like JLU, Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice increased my love for comics so much when I wasn't able to read comics everyday or there wasn't a new movie every month. EMH still holds up till this day and I wish it got a true ending, or at least continued in a comic adaption
Shit, now I feel like going and bingeing this show. I love the inclusion of the Wasp and Black Widow in bigger roles. I always wished the MCU could treat them more as main characters instead of side characters

What an absolute BANGER video! I'm so sad this show got cancelled in favour of Disney's modern trash. I absolutely cannot wait for you to talk more on this subject as I feel we need as many people talking about it as possible and really send Marvel and Disney the message they need to hear: WE WANT GOOD ANIMATION!
Oh this documentary spoke to me so much . This show was one of the pinnacles of my love for the Avengers in the comics as a whole and become the comic expert I am now, this show was my introduction to Black Panther how I read later his comics from writers like Christopher priest, Reginald and even Taenashi Coates. The version of Kang and Ultron in show is one of my favorite versions of in tv other than the comics . For newbies in the comics I highly recommend you checkout the Avengers comics from Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Roger Stern and Kurt Busiek as those are the writers this shows pulls their main inspiration from.
Side note: The Avengers vs Graviton fight is probably one of the best team fights in the entire series. The level of trash talking of Graviton, Hulk and Wasp while giving epic fight across New York was so monumental you could see how much destruction New York had .

After the sucess, the characters from Marvel (you can see the same happening to DC as well, even though their movies aren't a popular consensus) are PROHIBITED from adapting to different storytelling.
Remember Peter Parker's biological web because of the movies? Or any changes that occurred to the Xmen after the films.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! This series is what began my falling so deeply and madly in love with Marvel, comic books and superheroes.
This show was literally my point of reference for Kang the conqueror to. Also, discovering this show, playing lego marvel superheroes and the two great mcu movies that came out all in 2014...That year was like marvel candy for me.
This show was literally my childhood and how I grew up with the characters, and damn that theme song still slaps

In my opinion, this is the best thing Marvel has ever made, if I was only able to call one movie or show or whatever perfect then I would quickly go with this. Can we all agree Christoper Yost was a blessing to Marvel?
This show was my introduction to the Marvel comics universe. Beforehand I was primarily a Spider-Man fan. I watched the old spidey shows and loved them but I never felt a need to delve into the universe beyond him. This show changed that. Because of it I met the core Avengers, Fury, Zemo, Captain Marvel, Loki, Enchantress, Black Panther, Dr. Doom, the fantastic four, Iron fist, Luke Cage, Winter soldier and so many more wonderful characters. Thanks to this show I am now the massive nerd I am today. I’m so glad to have watched it

This show never spoke down to the audience. It respected the fans and the source material, and was just all around very well written with characters you could easily relate to and get invested in.
I cannot say the same for the MCU and it angered me so much Earth's Mightiest Heroes was replaced with a show that was an inferior rip-off of the movies (seriously they literally re-used the same gags and lines from the MCU that it had me rolling my eyes and sighing).
The thing that pissed me off most about Ant-Man in the MCU is that the things Ant-Man is best known for it's creating Ultron, and the burden that put on him. The MCU dropped the ball on that in every way. Oh, and not to mention Scott Lang is supposed to be a redhead, but Hollywood hates redheads.
I think they should bring back the part where Bruce Banner and the Hulk can communicate with each other

It's such basic storytelling and countless movies have already done it. If we can get Norman Osborn talking to the green goblin in the mirror in the first spider-man movie we can get banner talking with the hulk. In fact why stop there? Why don't they adapt one of the comic issues where he goes inside his own mind and encounter different versions of the hulk and confronts his abusive father? All the coolest hulk stuff has been tossed aside by the MCU and it sucks.

Finally someone talking about that show. I never read the comics, but I allways recognized the stuff in mcu because of that show. It was another agent in my love for Marvel formed through the years.
I'm brazilian and arround here NOBODY talks about this show, not even my friends who grown with a lot of the same shows I did, so is good to know it still remebered and loved.
There's also some comics that tie into the show. Some of which introduce new comic characters not featured in the show.
Avengers EMH, Wolverine and the XMen, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Young Justice were all great shows cancelled way to soon. As much as I’ve wanted more JL/JLU I’m really happy that it wasn’t cancelled but ended because the writers felt their story was told.
If the fans can get the Snyder Cut Released, then we can get this show to have a 3rd Season and finish off the story the show never got to finish.

Does anyone remember Superhero Squad, as that was the show that I grew up with and pretty much my version of EMH in my childhood. It's funny that it's also another show that also ended after 2 seasons. Feels like two seasons is a curse for Marvel shows.
Here! Superhero Squad Show had to be my first real introduction to characters like Iron-Man, Wolverine, MODOK and Dr. Doom. It was so damned ridiculous and bombastic with the plot of collecting the Infinity Sword shatters, and at the same time it wholly embraced the innate cheesiness of the superhero genre, it was awesome.

I thought I was the only one who appreciated this show. AEMH introduced me to the tragedy of Captain America’s character as he is a man out of time. Everyone he knew is now gone, and he now must struggle with accepting the future. After the Cap flash back episode I went out with my dad and bought Captain America and Bucky action figures and recreated that whole episode. I love this show
I remember watching Cap get shot in the season 1 finale & shitting myself, then completely forgett6about it & then being completely shocked to him being a skrull & me shitting myself again!! Soooooo good!
EMH, Spectacular Spider-Man, and all the cartoons from the 90's have never been surpassed. Disney sucks.
Another great dynamic in the show was Steve and Tony. They had their differences in how they handled situations, but they still respected each other. They didn't constantly argue, they debated. Their friendship was real and the respect was earned, they both learned things from the other, and when the team had a falling out it felt devastating as opposed to expected

12:35. Josh Keaton apparently did originally record the dialogue for the episode in S2 of EMH. But it was dubbed over with Drake Bell from Ultimate Spider Man because that show ended up airing at the same time as S2 of EMH which was delayed a whole year.
What this show did really well too was showcase Marvel’s villains. The MCU has made people think Marvel villains are terrible but the show made Ultron scary, gave Dr Doom such a presence and made obscure characters like the Leader, the Serpent Society, the Enchantress, and the Wrecking Crew the attention they deserved.
I love that this show is finally getting its flowers recently with these video essays, I would hope they can give this series at least two more seasons ending with Infinity War, with the same artists in the same writers in charge.
Why do fans of Avengers earths migthy's heroes keep wanting me to come back?
because it is one of the best tributes to the comic that Marvel has done in its history of adaptations. It brilliantly adapts what works and especially removes what doesn't. Everybody says so, but not many animated superhero series can do that these days. If they currently say that manga surpasses comic, it is because comic stopped making animated series as brilliant from its source material as manga does. But still, the fans believe that there is a possibility that he will return, why?

The best quality of the show was how that world had so many different heroes and villains, and they didn't all interact with each other. They all deal with their own things off screen, and when there's a big attack on the city/planet, they're most likely dealing with it somewhere else (NY is a big place after all, and not all the action will be focused around the Avengers)
I really loved how colorful this show was too, compared to today's trend toward neutral color palettes and realism in the MCU and DCEU

I love this show. First season was great but second was extremely good. Secret Invasion is, at least in my opinion, better in here than the comics, and the rest of the show is extremely comic accurate. In my opinion after just one episode late into season 2 I believe that this show has the second best JJJ obviously behind JK Simmons. Also remember when it just took like a c level villain (this was before Jessica Jones) Killgrave and had him take over the world? That’s one of my favorite episodes and it’s clear they did their homework. Extra thing, this show easily has the better Mar-Vell, I hate what they did to him in the movie

One of my favourite parts of the show has to be how close it is to the original Avengers run in the 60’s. I’m glad that the show was created before the mcu really kicked off, and that we got the chance to have that original line up, that included Hank pym and Janet, rather than the default six that everyone associates the team with.
Honestly it’s close to being one of the most comic accurate adaptations of the group on screen
This had the best voice cast,best stories and best incarnation of the Avengers.

They actually did air the micro episodes, albeit not in the order that they did on official airings or Disney+. They would air different micro episodes for each character in the build up to the series premiere so I knew all the characters already when I saw Episode 1 as a kid.

Not to mention EMH had the best on screen adaptation of Dr. Doom.
I loved this show so much, the art style was fantastic, the music (especially the op) was amazing, the stories spectacular! I miss shows that had great stories with thought provoking themes that have nuance

Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes has my favorite depiction of the Hulk it's one of the reasons why I love Peter David, Bill Milo, and Immortal Hulk run of the comics I was never Into The action-packed mindless monster depictions they always portrayed the Hulk as. It's why the MCU I didn't like the hulk(2012-2015) until taika waititi took over.
He was cool in Ragnorak, but it did open up the door for him to be used as more of a comedic character.

This show actually respected fans and the whole story. This is what I grew up reading. I love it. Have the whole two seasons saved here.
I love this show’s Black Panther. He feels like freakin Batman. Combat skills, badassery and intelligence. The problem with the MCU is that it left him only the combat skills, and moved the other two traits to Okoye and Shuri respectively. It feels like the true Black Panther is there only if you put the three of them together.
Maybe the reason of why his trait is given to the other to not make character too OP.

The best part is that not only are they so comic accurate, it was well written, and everything is actually interconnected in a way the mcu could’ve been. It didn’t really on big time characters for the show. Each character steals the show with their appearances dammit
Hulk, Hawkeye and Wasp were the best part of this show. Three amigos that really reminded me of Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg from Teen Titans. I loved them. Also I love how Wasp is the most faithful part of this show and she NEVER left Avengers. Movies have NOTHING on this show.
Probably the only animated series that did justice to Janet Van Dyne.
Later ones started using the MCU Hope Wasp (could be wrong though).

My first Avengers cartoon was Avengers: United They Stand. It came out before my time, but I grew up on the reruns until they stopped showing them. I'm among the lucky few who grew up watching Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I am still angry that the show got canceled.
