He sat Down with Cap and said "How long has it been since we last fought together? Was it knull? Was it something else?" And he explains that although The Avengers are some of the people he cares about the most... they are just people. They will eventually die of old age and he will be left without them. He explains that as an Immortal Being who has lived for eons. He relishes every time he comes to earth because time is not the same for him. He never truly knows if the last time he was earth, is the last time he'll see his friends. And when I realized that's how Thor sees it, this movie breaks my heart. Maybe he let humanity die. Hell, maybe he even did it because he didn't think he could beat Ultron and he couldn't let Ultron find a way to Asgard. Whatever the case may be, he left his daughter with the people he trusted most assured she would one day find him. And then he leaves, only to look back and realizes the people he loves most, are gone. Thor may be a god, but I doubt even he could mentally handle that when it happened. I don't forgive this Thor for leaving humanity to die. But I can understand it just a little bit better now.
I'd always assumed that when Tony hid the kids from Ultron, it might have also managed to hide them from Asgard...so, Thor might have had the view that all of his friends and daughter were already dead. It wasn't until later on that things started happening that his attention came back to Midgard and realized what was happening

Each time I return to Midgard... to fight by your side... I am always so very glad that you are all still alive. I have..." "I have lost so many here... And I have missed their passing... Missed their entire lives -- entire lifetimes while I was out playing soldier for my father amongst the realms..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The rest isn't especially relevant to the topic, and more about how he's losing access to Mjolnir at this point in the comic's storyline. Later in the conversation though, he does say this: "I have come here to tell you that I will live a thousand years and a thousand lifetimes more." It's not a matter of Thor not caring, he just genuinely doesn't experience things the same way we do. I admit, I don't think I really remembered it properly, but a lot of the things I said in the initial comment still apply.
Honestly having Hulk kill Ultron was the only way they could’ve beaten him with how hard they built him up. Dude eliminated nearly every hero, nooo shot those kids were gonna take him down. Plus I like the symbolism of Hulk ripping apart the AI created by the Avengers that only sees him as a monster.
The thing about Ultron is that he ALWAYS has a backup plan and never stays down for long. It's entirely possible that he's been beaten before in the past perhaps even by Hawkeye and Hulk. Banner likely knew that this victory was a short-lived one and so choose to retreat with Betty to find a new place to lie-low. It's possible that Thor was also biding his time waiting for a better chance to intervene or gave up after trying to defeat Ultron for years with no real success. The kids would almost 100% be forced to face him again. I know the tone of the finale is fairly positive but even a cursory knowledge of what it means to be fighting an AI means that this is only the tip of the iceberg for them.
Agree. Hell, even Earth's Mightiest Heroes shows how Ultron can be hard to put down as being an AI means he can always return so long his digital form is still around. Only a very robust program to destroy AIs could end him for good
@@granmastersword That's assuming Ultron in Next Avengers didn't have any restrictions that prevented that. The restrictions can be based on hardware or software but it would explain why Ultron didn't just switch bodies rather than activate the current bodies self repair systems.

One of my childhood favorites, glad I wasn’t the only one who felt so attached to this one! The best version of Ultron on screen imo & such a powerful ending to the animated Marvel universe
I rather ultron be actually a good villain instead of funny dude i can't scare the kids in the movie theater or at home i hate that one and probably people also hate that one
Man this movie was great in my childhood and still great now. Also a couple of fun facts that I might’ve figured out about James Rogers and Azari. His name “James” could be a reference to Bucky aka the Winter Soldier since his real name is James Bucanon Barnes. So maybe Steve decided to name his son after his best friend which is awesome. As for Azari, the reason he has electricity powers on top of the Black Panther ones, is because his mother happened to be Storm from the X-men. And yes, this is peak Ultron. This was the Ultron I actually wanted the MCU to do.
@@qwertydavid8070 It seems I was the only one who didn't😂. Not my type. She's just too muscular and and manly, yknow. A little disagreement- and she's gonna chop off your balls with that sword.
Young Avengers: • Azari T'Challa, son of Black Panther & Storm. • Francis Barton, son of Hawkeye & Mockingbird. • Henry Pym Jr., son of (Gi)Ant-Man & Wasp. • James Rogers, son of Black Widow & Captain America. • Torunn Thorsdottir, daughter of Sif & Thor.
This was my first exposure to Hawkeye. While we didn't actually see him on screen. We learn so much about him through the way others talk about him, and the legacy he left behind.
Bro James and Francis shaped my childhood so much, I grew up with this movie and I absolutely adore it. I just wish I knew where I could find it, since the DVD I had of it got lost a long while ago.
I can’t help but love the vocal performances in this movie, Tom Kane went absolutely wild in this movie, especially with him revealing he killed Cap first, and that James will follow suit. Plus the stakes. We see the remains of the suits of their parents, we see the menace of ultron, and the final battle and James nearly gets disintegrated. It all felt real. Great video as always. Cheers.
I'm assuming there was some legal rights with the X-Men, because unless I'm remembering wrong, Azari's mother is never named. He's the son of Black Panther and some unnamed woman who is very obviously Storm.
Though the X-Men license Fox owned was only for making movies of it, it could be for legal reasons if a different studio already got dibs on it to make a show about them
Yeah and and a lot of the animated ones were from Lionsgate. I wonder if a sequel would have to come from Lionsgate or maybe Disney has the rights do whatever they want now?
I watched this movie so many times as a kid (pretty sure I still have the CD somewhere) , and I genuinely think it deserves more recognition. Ultron in particular was absolutely *terrifying* and I was so disappointed that the MCU version was more quippy and philosophical than cold and calculating
1. I was surprised when I learned that this movie was an original story 2. I also started shipping Cap and BW because of this movie, now I ship her more with Bucky 3. This movie gave me very high expectations for Ultron in AoU 4. It wasn't until recently that I realised Azari was Storm's son
Woah woah....why on earth do you ship nat and bucky? Their few interactions they either try and kill each other or just don't speak to each other ? Not judging just curious
I agree, but I also think that the ending being like that was needed if there was a sequel, since there is none it kinda just feels like... something is missing? Like the kids getting to defeat their own big bad guy. The ending was good, I honestly think that, I loved it, but it could be would be perfect if it didnt *end* there, the kids getting a reality check on how big the world is, not only motivating them to become the next avengers but also to get stronger and stronger, even more powerful than the previous generation to not lose to the likes Ultron again, an ending like that is perfect, (plus it would be kinda of bullshit if the kids managed to defeat the ultron after hulk lost), but it just ended there. There is no sequel to show us the pay-off for this set-up (the kids not managing to get their first victory, motivating them to become better), specially since Ultron is not the type to just go out like that, bro's got a backup plan to the backup plan of a backup plan, so him showing up again on a sequel would totally be possible, he would've probably already uploaded his main "brain" to a computer and have even his strongest body (the one they fought) only be a decoy. His return after our heroes having already matured would be amazing, to put in perspective their growth, he could come back with a whole army too, it would be *perfect* to show how far our heroes have come, from not being able to defeat him alone, to being able to taken on Ultron + an army by themselves, without Hulk around this time, all the cards and tools are there, they could've made it happen, and the way this movie ended would be the start of it... except this ended up never happening and it never will :( Missed ass opportunity, all the tools are in the table, they just needed to be used. The ending was good, but it could be even better
Ya know if Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes continued, there were plans to have them travel to a dark future where Ultron took over. I really wish the MC2 comic books allowed the Avengers to have kids, would've been fun to see Spider-girl interact with the son of Captain America.
This was a blast from the past. I remember seeing the Iron Avengers, how devastating it was to see them get defeated and turned into Ultron's puppets. And it never occurred to me that it was the sequel to the Ultimate Avenger line of movies either. Such a treat to see it revisited like this.
Funny thing is, some of them are older than 15. James and Torunn were like 4 or 5 in the beginning scene where Tony is telling them the story, and the movie takes place 12 yrs after that. That would make them at least 16-17 years old. Azzari is probably like 14-15 and pym is like 13. Francis is probably the same age as James or possibly a year older, so like 16-18.
@@RobertoSanchez-zd8gb Right! And it's implied that they were all rescued together and their parents died at the same time in their final battle with Ultron. So all of their parents died just a few months before that opening scene. That just makes it all that much sadder.
Steve and Nat IS the ship, mad respect to the Russo Brothers for ignoring the dumb Hulk Widow ship and still gave Steve and Nat more chemistry in both Infinity War and Endgame lol
This movie was the first time I ever saw Ultron and it was as a kid. Needless to say, whenever I saw him again in media growing up, I always got massive chills.
I agree with you on Ultron. A cold, menacing, emotionless, robot who actually scared me a little when I was kid and is actually my favorite Avengers villain. Also, I used to have this theory that Thor actually died by the hands of Ultron because we see his tombstone in the Avengers memorial site and that since Torunn did die, what we see in space that’s supposed to be Asgard might actually be Valhalla and that she was brought back to life by Thor who at that point must’ve been the new Allfather.
With all due respect to Earth's Mightiest Heroes, I think Next Avengers had in my opinion *the* definitive Ultron. Cold, calculating and all around merciless, this movie not only introduced me to him but made me actively fear him for the rest of my childhood.
If they had just given Thor some line about how Ultron ensured he could never set foot on Earth again or he would also die, and that it was BECAUSE Torunn had flown into space that he was able to see her at all I would be willing to accept it without much thought. It would make his absence make sense. It would make her actions be more important in how things shook out, even if she didn't know. And it would make her decision to stay on Earth more impactful because it really is an either/or situation.
Although I like the MCU’s version of Ultron as an alternate take on the character, I agree that this version of Ultron is probably my favorite. Watching this film as a kid and seeing him actually beat Iron Man was terrifying in all the right ways. I was thinking to myself “ah gee wiz, Iron Man got his butt kicked his guy is for real.”
Great video. This movie was a hidden gem of my childhood. Also, apparently Francis, James and Torunn are all 17. The artstyle just makes them all look younger.
I actually caught the final battle of this film when I was a kid, and for so long I wanted to watch the full movie, and by the time I had access to the internet I'd forgotten the movie existed. Genuinely thank you so much for making me remember this movie.
I watched this movie so much as a kid and I still feel like it holds up, I also only put together recently that Azari's mom was Storm and I remember being really confused as a kid as to why he had sparky powers, I think the movie only says that "the king found his queen" and doesn't call her out by name but it makes a lot of sense
For the longest time I always thought James had a robot arm in reference to Bucky Barnes, also being named James, and that this movie was an alternate reality to Earth’s Mightiest’s Heroes since they have a similar cast (Minus Captain Marvel)
Wait, holy shit. Is James named after Bucky? As in James Buchanan Barnes? Like holy shit. I mean it wouldn’t even be weird considering Bucky’s relation to Captain America and Black Widow. They both knew him and worked with him.
This movie is so dope and has really intriguing take on what the Avengers children would look like and set in such a bleak future but still retain their youthful hope and optimism. BTW Ultron in this movie is utterly terrifying
This was one of the strangest memories from my childhood. I remember watching this and loving it, it was probably like the purest form of being in awe of heroes as a kid. But I NEVER heard a peep about this anywhere else and honestly I almost forget it exist sometimes. Glad to see a video about it.
This show honestly was my first introduction to who the Avengers were, and honestly I learned a lot from just this. More though, Ultron. This movie DEFINED him for me the rest of my life. This is what I expected Ultron to be when they brought him into live-action, and I was disappointed when they didn't despite giving us some very dark/creepy undertones that I thought would carry over from this.

I remember watching this film but forgetting the title. I had no idea this was my first exposure to Ultron, as I kinda forgot about him until his MCU debut, but this film actually made him a threat this time, so kudos
Same bro I have a distinct memory of being a sick child, staying home from school and watching this, but I could never remember anything specifically about this movie. My heart actually leaped when I saw the thumbnail.
Dude same, I've had the memory of this movie forever in my mind but I could never actually find it. This video really was a "core memory unlocked" moment.
Can we talk about how during the story Tony refers to the Avengers by titles instead of their names like calling Cap “The Solider” and Black Panther “The King” like Tony what are you doing? Do you think he thinks he sounds cool doing this…because he doesn’t.
20:33 the only excuse I can give them is that they aren’t fighting in Ultron city, so Ultron doesn’t have his full arsenal. They basically lured him away from all of his weapons.
I always presumed that Thor was unable to return to Earth since Ultron found a way to prevent the Bifrost from reconnecting to Earth (possibly via some sort of jamming frequency on his being), thus Thor was only able to appear once Ultron was destroyed.
I remember watching this not too long ago and I’ve never remembered of it’s existence since, and one frame was enough to give me a huge rush of nostalgia
In my opinion the Thor being alive plot would have worked better if they did it so Thor had to sacrifice himself to become her sword. That way he never actually abandoned his daughter but was actually with her the whole time, it also makes sense that the sword would come to her when she's asking for help from her Dad. You can still have the scene of them reuniting, it would just have to be in her head instead of literally in Asgard. I know its a bit silly of an idea to have Thor turn himself into a weapon but I don't think its that farfetched for a comic storyline.
I wanted Ultron to be a bigger threat in the mcu. They could absolutely bring him back tho. Like how did a magic rock blow up a non physical murder AI. Age of Ultron was an awesome movie in retrospect with Ultron’s honestly scary dialogue, but it could have been so much more. Bring Ultron back and run it with like a marvel zombies style apocalypse story with the remaining mcu characters (and maybe some new ones) Like it doesn’t have to be in context of the rest of the movies because who even follows the story anymore this is the multiverse now, not just the mcu.
My personal headcanon is that when Hank died in UA 2, Wasp was already bearing his child. I also envision that even though the past Avengers look like their 616 counter parts, I often see it as how their children viewed their parents in their heads. We even see the Iron Man armor from UA in this movie too so I see that possibility.
12:28 I love that Clint always survives since he’s likely seen as less of a threat by villains. But also it’s because he is pre built to be a survivalist, he has nothing but a bow, some arrows and indomitable human spirit. Same with Green Arrow.
I am so happy someone decided to talk about the marvelous craftsmanship of this film. For a hole in the wall film in 2008 it was a piece of art in it's own category. Thank you so much for covering it. 🙏
If you pay attention to his design and color scheme, Kid Hawkeye also resembles Mockingbird who may be his mother. Her and Clint Barton had a prominent relationship in the comics.

This movie lived in my head for years and it terrified me in the best way possible, Ultron in this film kept me from being scared of other villains just because of how well done he was. This alongside Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes had my favourite interpretation of Ultron.
First time I ever heard about Ultron, needless to say my brother and I were very scared heading into Age of Ultron because we thought everyone was guaranteed to die. Caps son was one of my favorite superheroes when I was younger
when i was growing up, my grandparents had one of those minivans with the little tv screen, and this was the only movie they had for it so every time we went out with them we watched this movie and it is one of my favorites of all time now.
I was only 2 when this movie came out but I came across the dvd at walmart when I was young and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. During that time I didn't have cable so I would watch this movie over and over and I was amazed the first time. It's incredible. It was so cool to see a different universe than the one J was used to and each of them are so cool. They were even featured in the comics at some point. Torrun, Azari and Francis are my favorite and the storyline was just so good. Plus the way they did Tony and Bruce was perfect and Ultron ended up being pretty scary too. I think everyone should watch this!
This movie still holds up for me! I love the idea of the OH Avengers having children and become heroes like they’re parents. I even made my own updated fan art of them.
I really miss the freedom this movies had. That series of lionsgate movies and even the g4 anime series and movies. Disney doesn’t let them do that. I wish they kept it going like dc did.
This is how you do a next generation story without pandering and This Ultron was always my Favorite villain because he’s portrayed as a Artificial Intelligence done right as he Thinks of logic and i like that this is the first story that changed his creation and tony being the last surviving avenger and vision One of the things i love about this movie is how Tony was handled taking care of his friends Kids and wanting to protect them this is how you do tony stark as a father figure All in all a great classic of my childhood
I enjoy the ending of the new avengers because it shows how weak the kids are, ofc they can't defeat ultron on their own, and as cool as a team fight would be, it would kinda feel un earned in my opinion, they're in over their heads, and the best they can hope for is for the hulk to get more mad and kill ultron while he's distracted. Idk, I felt like it was cool that they didn't give the main characters an impromptu power up cause they have to fight ultron, they are still kids, they are still weak, and I like that

"I have lost so many here... And I have missed their passing... Missed their entire lives -- entire lifetimes while I was out playing soldier for my father amongst the realms..."

The rest isn't especially relevant to the topic, and more about how he's losing access to Mjolnir at this point in the comic's storyline. Later in the conversation though, he does say this:
"I have come here to tell you that I will live a thousand years and a thousand lifetimes more."
It's not a matter of Thor not caring, he just genuinely doesn't experience things the same way we do.

That's assuming Ultron in Next Avengers didn't have any restrictions that prevented that. The restrictions can be based on hardware or software but it would explain why Ultron didn't just switch bodies rather than activate the current bodies self repair systems.

Bro James and Francis shaped my childhood so much, I grew up with this movie and I absolutely adore it. I just wish I knew where I could find it, since the DVD I had of it got lost a long while ago.
It's a decent movie but I don't think it's great. I thought it was fine when I watched during my childhood back when I was 9 years old in 2008.
Cheers.
As a kid, this was my gold standard for a high stakes movie. Ultron just felt so omnipresent and invincible.
Ultron was so genuinely horrifying and fearsome in this movie. I was so hyped when Age of Ultron was announced...

I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. Forget the MCU, I wanna see more of these five.
Id argue the ending was needed. Like you said, the kids got a reality check on how strong they are vs the world.
Id also argue that thor staying on Asgard added to that reality check.
His return after our heroes having already matured would be amazing, to put in perspective their growth, he could come back with a whole army too, it would be *perfect* to show how far our heroes have come, from not being able to defeat him alone, to being able to taken on Ultron + an army by themselves, without Hulk around this time, all the cards and tools are there, they could've made it happen, and the way this movie ended would be the start of it... except this ended up never happening and it never will :(
Missed ass opportunity, all the tools are in the table, they just needed to be used.
And Ultron really looks like EMH Ultron in this
This was a blast from the past.

Wierd part is Pym is literally a baby in the intro. Which means his parents died only a few months before the intro.

Oh, but looking forward to your video on Hulk Vs. I watched that movie REPEATEDLY during my Deadpool obsession.
It's make sense like making a conditional bomb which will go on when he enters the earth
Iron Man always gets his butt kicked if we are being honest.
This is possibly the lionsgate movie I watched the most as a kid, I love so much and still feels nostalgic, wish we got more from this characters

I remember I went as James in high school, and everyone was confused when I said he was the son of Cap and Black Wodow

20:33 the only excuse I can give them is that they aren’t fighting in Ultron city, so Ultron doesn’t have his full arsenal. They basically lured him away from all of his weapons.
Torinn was so cool that I have always wanted her to actually be in the comics

I know we never got to see Spidey in the Animated MCU but to think that Ultron had killed him in this universe is sad.
As a kid I always wondered how spider man died I kind of wish he was in this movie
