  • I finally decided that I wanted to experiment with arrow weight, FOC and Helical vanes. I have been shooting Black Eagle Rampage .001/300 cut at 27.5”(28” with factory half outsert), and have had really good results with them. But with all of the data out there I knew I could make those results even better. So with some testing of my own shooting through the chronograph and using online kinetic energy and momentum calculators I was able to see the results for myself. In this video I show the process of moving from the factory configuration(416gr/13% FOC) and building a heavier(500gr) and higher FOC (18+%) setup with 4 fletch 6 degree helical vanes.

    Bow Setup: 2020 Elite Kure 70# Draw Weight & 28” Draw Length

    Be sure to check out this article by Tom Shirk. He gives an in depth explanation of what FOC is, and does some extensive testing and has a ton of data on why arrow weight and FOC plays a huge factor in a hunting arrow.

    I'm in the process of building arrows now, I want a higher f.o.c more for the fact I hunt hogs more then I hunt deer. I don't want 2 set ups so this system seems perfect for both whitetail and hogs. My set up now I run a bowtech cp28 70lbs 29.5 draw current arrow is black eagle zombie slayer, 200grain broadheads total grains 525 give or take.. I'm wanting to load the arrow so I can use a 100grain broadhead that way I have more options.. great video man let us know how they work for you

      @robzmancave  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man! glad you mentioned that, this was one thing I forgot to talk about! I could have easily just went to a 175gr or 200gr broadhead, but that greatly reduces your options. Plus if I decided that I wanted to reduce/increase weight later I would be limited even more, and have to buy all new broadheads, instead of just adding/removing weight. I should have mentioned price also. The FOCOS system only runs about $25 for half dozen or $45 for dozen. And weights are $15 a dozen. I definitely think that this is the way to go. And especially for hunting hogs. How do you like the zombie slayers?

    • @brandonjones9376
      @brandonjones9376 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely a cheaper and ideal way to go. I like the zombie slayers they shoot good, this is the first year using them but I've always had good luck with black eagle. I'll definitely know more when I kill something with them.

    I never had good luck with the Rampage arrows. The nock end would always crack. Cracked a dozen and gave up.

      I’ve got 4 dozen now and haven’t seen that issue yet. Although, I’m about to give Victory a shot.

      Black Eagle makes an aluminium nock bushing you can put over the rear end of the arrow. It will protect that end of the arrow and you can glue it on for even more strength. It's a good looking nock bushing and only adds 3 grains of weight to the arrow, and with gluing it on, you'd be ok, more than likely. I'd give Black Eagle Arrows a call if I were you and let them know what problem you are having and they might even replace those broken shafts for free.

      @@jefflovesdogs9973 I may get a half dozen and give it a try that way. I went to the Spartans which come with the nock bushings and they’re surprisingly way more durable than I would’ve thought. Thanks for the recommendation

      I might order some nock bushings for my Rampage shafts then. I am just starting my arrow build and that seems like good insurance. Were the nock bushings on your Spartan shafts glued to the shaft??@@mattthadd4663

    How much extra distance is added to the arrow shaft with this system?

    • @robzmancave
      @robzmancave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About 5/8”. The correct way is to subtract that 5/8” from the over all length needed, but I chose not to in case I wanted to revert back. 5/8” isn’t enough to really worry about in my opinion.

    What do the inserts alone weigh?

    • @robzmancave
      @robzmancave  ปีที่แล้ว

      the focos system is 100 grains total, that includes the insert, collar, and screw. That is only like 45 grains more than the factory half-outserts. The brass weights were 30 grains

      Have the threads on the brass weights sheared off? The archery shop in my area expressed grave concerns about the brass threads giving way after being shot quite a bit. I am trying to tell if there is any merit to what they are saying. They really can't stand brass weights and highly prefer steel. Of course, they make more money by selling me a bunch of 20 grain Gold Tip steel weights, as they are more expensive than the Rampage brass weights, but then again, the FOCOS system brass weights are 3/32 diameter at the threads. I called Black Eagle and they suggested instead of the FOCOS system with the 3/32 brass weights to use their standard half out that weighs 50 grains and the weights for it are larger diameter, maybe 5/32 or so. However, to do that I would give up the strength of the FOCOS system protecting the front part of the shaft, so I kept the FOCOS system and got the Gold Tip 20 grain weights with a thread diameter of 3/32 and those should not shear off because they are steel. Let me know if you had any issues with those brass weights. Thanks!!!@@robzmancave

    Wow zinger fletching on a wrap. Makes no sense at all 😂 way to ruin FOC for no reason.

    • @robzmancave
      @robzmancave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ruin? 😂 I achieved the FOC I wanted! And the “reason” was to add enough grip so the zinger stays put on pass thru(which worked by the way), and add visibility to my arrow. Thanks for your support!
