    The ez fletch should have come with a little cap that slides down the arrow when all three fletches are being glued to the shaft. It is like a securing ring while it dries. Mine did.

    G5 makes a squaring tool that can be used on your arrows after cutting. It will help eliminate some of the need for matching the broadheads since it will help make sure all the arrows have square ends. I spin my arrows before doing any cutting or fletching as well. Sometimes you can find that your arrow spins better cutting an inch or so off each end.
    As mentioned by others, I also put a spot of glue at the ends of the fletches to help keep them from getting caught on anything. And I shoot through paper with a bare shaft before fletching to nock tune. I mark the nock with a sharpie to keep the same side up while shooting each time and then turn it until all the arrows are shooting a bullet hole. It has almost eliminated the need to broadhead tune. Only very minor adjustments required, if any at all.
    Hope some of that helps you out, Dirk. Good luck this season, it's about to get rolling here in Idaho!

    Dirk, great video. The only thing I would add is that acetone can break down the polymer in the arrow (the stuff that bonds the carbon strands together) if you leave it on too long, or you use it multiple times. It won't be an issue if you only do the arrow once, but I wanted to point that out. Denatured alcohol works just as well without the fear of breaking down the arrow.
    The other thing to add is that you should put the "cap" on the jig to hold the arms down tight against the arrow.
    Have fun this season, and I look forward to seeing your success.

    I’ve tried several different types of glue on fletchings and so far the loctite ultra gel control works the best. Just make sure you clean the shaft before the fletching starts. Also dirk, what I have noticed with the tuning process is if you fletch with a 3 degree helical, there’s no need to tune the broadheads. Your arrow will spin so fast right out of the bow that it stabilizes and will seriously spin as it penetrates the animal or target. Just my 2 cents that I’ve tested... thank you for all you do and look forward to more

    I have found a .17 caliber bore brush works well for scoring the inside of the arrow shaft. Much easier than rolling sandpaper. The Otis brand cleaning kit has a nice T-handle bore brush setup

  • @chrisochoa1222

    Personally I would spin the arrow and either pick the side wobbles most and cut more from that side or automatically cut off both ends. The straightness of the arrows typically center 28". So cutting down to as close to that is best. I usually cut 2" off the back and remaining off the front. You would want to square both ends of the arrows, including the nock side and the inserts and all. Circles in circles can cause wobble so squaring all sides and sometimes you have to spin components. You can use the wire brush off for riffle barrel cleaning as well to score or scuff the inside of the arrow. Good video and good luck this year!

    A little pro tip from an amateur here, a great consistent way to score the inside of your arrow shaft is to use a .22 caliber barrel brush or a .17 caliber for micro diameter shafts. Also when cutting length cut and square the nock side and the tip side this will prevent torque under load. Awesome to see some more videos! I am really excited to see you getting more "custom" with your setup, keep up the good work.

    I recomend a drop of glue on the leading and trailing tip of each fletch. Other than that it looked professional!
    My elk bomb consist of 33" Victory Vap 250, 50gr insert/ousert, AAE Max using the Arizona mini max, 100 gr German Kenetic Silver Star. Comes in at 500 gr. I have a 30.5 draw and get some great speed and awesome penetration.
    Same arrow for deer except I use a 100gr. SEVR 2.1
    Good luck and can't wait for the video with the kill shot.

    As long as you have a tuned bow, and you take the time to tune your arrows correctly you will have great broadhead flight. As one guy mentioned, g5's squaring tool. You cut off both ends of the shaft before you fletch then square them. Insert and square the insert. You're vane's can be lined up by shaving a bit more off the insert at a time.
    Good luck hunting!

    I’ve used black eagle deep impacts for the last few years. Finish arrow wt is 480 grs. Shot these out of a 60 lb bow with complete pass thru on rag horn at distance.. now out of a 70 lb bow. Have used the gambit of broadheads.. sharp and true is my choice whatever brand..sons set up is similar as mine. His arrows are 460’s out of his 58 lb bow.. (14 yr old). Good luck this year.. may your aim be true and those bombs make contact.

    My arrow set up is 425gn with a Kudu single bevel broadhead. I do cut both ends off of my arrows usually 1-1.5" off the back end and the rest off the front. I have found this can in most instances make a lesser grade arrow straighter. I used to align my broadheads like you because I didn't ant any chance of equipment not working but nowadays I spin test and glue where they spin.

  • @jordanhinchman4445

    I spine test after I cut my arrow to length. Then I hot glue a insert in and then mark the arrow with a white marker. Then I shoot the arrow from 5’ to see which way the arrow is naturally spinning off the string. Then I run the helical to which way the arrow is spinning. Then remove insert and clean fletching and arrow like you did. Then I use a ram arrow tester to spin check Broadheads. Probably over kill but why not do it for hunting if I do this for shooting 3D. Good video!

    Great video. Although I haven’t hunted Elk yet, I went through the process, for the first time, of testing handload to determine spine & weight. After ordering a dozen fletched 300 spine arrows I then did the insert tune with a 100 grain insert/outsert. Just nocked tuned them today with 125 g EVO broadheads. Flying great. Next year, I will fletch my own arrows. I’m thinking I will fletch after the insert tune and bare shaft nock tune. The one thing I’m not yet clear on is the helix...

  • @trdshortbus8009
    @trdshortbus8009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The best part about the AZ ez fletcher is if you have a fletching issue before the hunt you can re fletch and be good to go. And yes the helical is nuts but it's absolutley worth it.

  • @mikebowerman5078

    I four fletch with 2 inch Gatway Rayzor feathers. Then I put a 100 grain Ethics Archery stainless steel insert in the arrow. I am going to use two different braodheads this year. One is a 125 grain glue on Grizzly single bevel with a 75 grain steel insert adapter glued in to it. The other broadleaf is a 200 grain Valkyrie Bloodeagle. Total arrow weight is 585 with 24% F.O.C. I am just hunting white tails but I hunt close to property boundaries some time and want to put them down fast.

    Couple comments, I'm no pro but I've built a lot of arrows and have the process pretty well dialed in. Spin your shafts first and figure out which end(s) have runnout. Use your trim to effectively straighten your shafts. In my experience you can turn +/-.003 into +/-.001 this way. Also, IMHO arrow straightness and squareness are your 2 biggest culprits for wobble, not the fit of your insert. Get the G5 ASD to square your shafts and then your inserts (post istall) and use a silver or black sharpie to make sure they are 100% square across the whole face. No matter how good your saw and technique, they aren't coming off as square as they could or should be. I square the opposite end before cutting because what's off on one end will translate to the other as you cut. Now is the time to nock tune if you are going to do that (recommend you do). Here's where my OCD kicks in. I don't match my inserts looking for runout as that's been handled by squaring, but I do match by weight. I weigh my cut shafts inserts, weights, and broadheads/field points and zero out my assembled arrow to arrow weight. On an extended range shot, that weight difference translates to speed difference and vertical dispersion on target. When complete, arrows I build are either 0.0 or within 0.1 grain (+/-.05 grain) of each other. If i get an outlier, it goes in the practice bin. A note on cleaning: Don't wipe back and forth when you are cleaning. You're smearing and spreading instead of removing contaminants. Wipe one direction with a rolling off motion (think paper towel commercial) then move to a fresh clean spot on the pad and repeat. You go through more cotton, but the results are far better. On the insert side, I use a .22 or .17 brass cleaning brush chucked in a cordless drill then go back with acetone and a q-tip. Now that your arrows are square and clean let them flash off for a minute or two. Any remaining acetone will weaken or break your glue bond...same for the inserts. Now fletch to match your nock tune if you did that step. I love my EZ Fletch, I run 2 at a time so I can be gluing and curing at the same time. Don't mash on the retainer. It's for alignment and stabilization not to squeeze. If you put it on too tight, you will glue starve the front of your vanes and they will pop off. They only need 30-45 seconds to set. After that they are safe to remove and you can tip and tail the vanes with a little dot of glue. Set them aside for a few hours to fully cure. I give each vane a light tug to make sure it's on there good and then spin'em again just for reassurance. If you find any runnout...practice bin. The rest are ready for the quiver. I'm not sayin I'm right, but myself and my hunting buddies have seen the difference the attention to detail makes on target and on penetrating an animal.

    I aligned all of my broadheads with my fletchings when I built my VAP TKO's. I could tell a difference in my own shooting after I built them vs just store bought Gold Tip Pierce Platinum arrows off the shelf. My cock vein and the top blade of the broadheads are all aligned with the spine on the top. I went with firenock outserts with extra 20 grain easton deep six inserts installed in the shaft so they are supported from the inside and outside sleeve, and it added a couple extra percent of FOC. Ive missed a target at 70 and hit a rock straight on and it was still all perfectly straight shooting 294 fps and the arrows are all 458 grains plus or minus .2 grains, perfect.

    The fletchings didn't fall off because you didn't use the magic pen. They fell off because you used acetone to clean the shafts. Acetone and other solvents reduce the bonding strength of Cyanoacrylate based glues. Solvents should only be used to clean arrows when using a solvent based glue such as fletchtite, fletchtite platinum, etc... Clean with a lint free cloth and water.... that's it.

      Still be confident in the Montec, it is a solid head. I've hit a rock with one and I was still able to just file it and use as a practice broadhead so im not using and dulling my hunting ones. The main shaft and 3 blades stayed completely straight and just bent the tip a little bit. For the money I think they're one of the toughest heads out there. Tried a grim reaper and purposely shot a 3/4" plywood sheet to test its durability and it was completely unusable after. Aluminum main shaft is a no go.

      @THEBUGLERBRAND  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you have a bit of a rub.
      Here’s the interesting tidbit of information that you’re missing friend- I have shot 550 grain arrows on hunts. Killed a 6 point bull with a 550 grain arrow with a mouth tab. Before I had the bow set up with the mouth tab, I was shooting at 70 lbs. the trajectory of the arrows was pathetic and if there’s was 5 yards of misjudgment, arrow impact was affected drastically. Shooting a 450 grain arrow with 65 lbs shows much less drop, and still deadly placement. As for 800 grain arrows, be my guest if you’re shooting hogs and deer on a corn feeder, or elk at 20 yards. I for one won’t be experimenting with such folly, as I like the ability to shoot elk out to 45 yards without 5 wide gapped pins on my bow. But hey, what do I know. I’ve only got 3 decades of experience actually killing elk with a so called “too light of an arrow”, instead of writing down on paper and making videos what should or should not work.

    • @thebackforty939
      @thebackforty939 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEBUGLERBRAND i do appreciate your reply and can seewhere your coming from right up until you mention 800 grain arrows.... then you went down the rabbit hole a bit! as a rebuttal.... in your 3 decades how many elk have you taken? and how many were alum vs carbon arrows?

    • @THEBUGLERBRAND
      @THEBUGLERBRAND  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thebackforty939 Let’s just say I’ve taken a bull for every year Ive archery elk hunted, and a few more.....
      From 1989- 1999 I shot 25” aluminum arrows out of an overdraw that hovered around 400 grains. Worked fine. Killed em dead. Started shooting carbons and upped the weight to around 430-450 depending on arrows and heads. Again, worked like a charm.
      There’s no argument that 800 grain arrows penetrate. That they do really well. But 430 grain arrows do too without the wild pin gaps.
      Buddy, you can shoot them logs if you like. For me, I can’t justify the down side 👍🏻

  • @brar090950
    @brar090950 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think of it this way, how heavy an arrow and which Broadhead is every persons personal opinion. But, like rifle hunting, you should be looking for as much penetration as possible, all Hunter`s are looking for a blood trail to fallow, I hope. Almost all animals deer and elk jump the noise they hear, string or bow noise and arrow flight, if you`re shooting 30-50 yd. shot and you hit high or forwards of where you`ve aimed because of the animal ducking and jumping forward, then I still want penetration for a kill. Not a shoulder shot or a gut shot, where some shed hunter finds him the next spring, these so called Deadheads. Those who are shooting their 80-90 even over 100 yd. shots, should stay on the 3D course and stay out of the woods. They have no respect for the animal they are hunting.
