Great video, waiting for a retest of LRDM on 19" . Try to don't go below 10% if not it not gonna preheat the battery and try to set the charger as destination ~30 min before to see if it peaks at 155kw
Real time weather conditions tests, thanks for doing this. It's not often perfect weather when we can ride with 20 degrees C, dry and no wind. Would be too easy 😄
Thanks Kris, always great to repeat tests, look forward to 2023 Ionic 5 AWD Long range retest with the built in Battery preconditioning, I noticed 5.3KW is used about 20 minutes from the CCS charger that is in navigation.
It’s a little old in the tooth now being 3 years old so instead of a mid refresh cycle I am hoping polestar use tech from polestar 3 init and add a couple of inches in rear seat hight /leg room and a major improvement in interior design with a light roof trim /and seat back once again as an option than just seat
Nice video! Maybe I missed it but does the P2 still go into turtle mode at 7%? I'm looking forward to seeing a new 10-80% charging test because the last curve we saw wasn't great. Any chance you could post your test results on a Google spreadsheet for people to see?
I find it difficult to test electric cars in such weather conditions. The consumption is way bigger in cold temperatures and wet road adds even more. Also failing to navigate to the charger is unfair for Polestar. I have a Polestar 2 LRDM with 19" wheels. In summer the consumption is about 20 kWh/100km and in winter I need 26. So it is like a totally different car concerning consumption. Still the car performed quite good. Maybe you can define some sort of correction factors depending on temperature and rain to get results, which are more comparable.
I think the charging time are interessing, but why not also type the total time? You can sort the results any way you like, but total time are also interessering to see. I have watched the NHSR video almost as benchmarks while looking on different electric cars, and I think it is many steps backwards doing it like this, and probably not a series I will watch quite as often since the whole point are missing... Charging times you can always find out anytime.. It's the total time that I find most interessering with this NHSR-test. Hilsen en nordmann fra sør.
It would be great if you can test 2 Polestar, one with heatpump and one without on same wheels and battery. Maybe do a collaboration with Bjorn to see if a heatpump give a real improvement in efficiency🤔
All ways nice to see your tests Kris, But I think you made just about every new beginner mistake during your test. However that doesn't have to be a bad thing. This test shows how well the car performs when things are far from ideal. Basically a real-real world test.
It’s got a nicer interior, feels much more solid to drive, much better ride quality, better handling, superior breaks, better infotainment, superior seats, better stereo, more practical trunk, better preheating options for charging in winter, superior headlights, better looking and is cheaper than a Model 3. So not sure what planet you are living on mate to think a Model 3 is better. Unless you live in a place where your only option is a Tesla because of the supercharger network, this is a much better car than a Model 3. Only thing a Model 3 is better at is it’ll have more range and will accelerate faster. If you care more about those two things than everything else, well then a Model 3 is your car 😬😅
@@KrisRifa I do like speed and tesla charging infrastructure I second to none, and I think tech in model 3 is best, even though polestar is good there too, you can watch you tube, in tesla, uses Google maps sbd has super smooth processor, better range has heat pump as standard, unlike polestar you have spend $4k to buy expensive pack to get that, and even then rsngeis less. Model 3 has 15" screen while polestar only 11", also polestar has that stupid tunnel in rear, unlike tesla nice even floor, not to mention that useless center console in polestar, that hits your knees in that plastic cheap wrap sides. No thanks.
@@tonyn3227 "I do like speed and tesla charging infrastructure I second to none" that depends on where you live though, in Norway there are so many more non Tesla chargers (150kW+) than Tesla Supercharger. And in addition to that most Tesla Supercharger are open to the public, so there is no advantage here. And actually you are at an a disadvantage with a Tesla because it will only preheat while navigating to a Supercharger, where the Polestar 2 will navigate to any DC fastcharger faster than 100kW. "I think tech in model 3 is best, even though polestar is good there too, you can watch you tube, in tesla, uses Google maps sbd has super smooth processor," This shows that you do not know what you are talking about, because Polestar has Android automotive and actually uses Google maps where Tesla only use Google data - not Google maps. There is not practical difference in the speed of either of these infotainment systems. "better range has heat pump as standard, unlike polestar you have spend $4k to buy expensive pack to get that, and even then rsngeis less" When specced "identical" the Polestar is a little cheaper than the Model 3, so argument fails here. This also means if you don't need a heat pump and the other options that come with the Plus Pack, you can get into a Polestar 2 quite a bit cheaper than a Model 3 - like at least 8k cheaper. Polestar 2 LR SM has an EPA range of 270 miles and the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range has a range of 272 miles, so basically the same. When it comes to the LR versions of both cars the Model 3 has around 50 miles more range though. But in my Motorway Range Test the Tesla Model 3 is one of the poorest performing when compared to claimed WLTP range in winter, only getting around 50% of its claimed range. Here Polestar 2 performes closer to 60% of its claimed WLTP range (you'll find all of these videos on the channel). So in the REAL WORLD there ranges will be almost identical. "Model 3 has 15" screen while polestar only 11" Bigger does NOT MEAN BETTER. With that being said the Polestar 2 has two sceens, so even by your logic the Polestar 2 is better. Having a drivers display in front of you gives you options and flexibility for what to show where. Only having one central screen in the Tesla you are more limited compared to the Polestar. Also, Teslas infotainment has gotten worse and lost functionality in the past year. Icons are small, and a lot of the menus are cumbersome to use. And simple adjustments like mirrors or steering wheel position are buried in menus. The Polestars infotainment system is simply better, easier to use with bigger and easier to use icons. Around a year ago I would say (and did says) that both systems where equal, but after Tesla has removed functions and made the menus worse - Polestars infotainment is clearly better. "also polestar has that stupid tunnel in rear, unlike tesla nice even floor, not to mention that useless center console in polestar, that hits your knees in that plastic cheap wrap sides. No thanks." This is actually your only real and valid criticism with the Polestar 2 that most people will agree with. If you are very tall or want to carry people in the rear I do agree that the Model 3 is better - but at everything else the Polestar 2 is a better car. I have a lot of seat time in both cars the past few years, probably driven each of these cars 20-30k kms - if not more. In the end it depends on what you value. If you are dependent on the Supercharger network because of where you live, if you want or need a more spacious and practical front the rear cabin, or you want the most performance - the Tesla is probably the best vehicle for you. On the other hand if you live in Scandinavia or most of western Europe and the Tesla Supercharger network does not give you an advantage, or you need a more practical trunk, a superior ride, superior seats, want a better infotainment system, better driver ergonomics, superior seats, a better stereo, more solid feeling cars, better handling, or a better looking car with a better built interior - then a Polestar 2 is probably your car.
@@KrisRifa clearly you are not tesla fan. but thats , ok, polestar will never even come close tesla they will always lag behind in sales and in everything else. they will always be second best, i i've seen the polestar once in person. and was not impressed at all. if it was $30k , maybe then,
@@tonyn3227 lol, you are such a fan boy if that is what your conclusion is after I just stated facts. You saw one once? That’s your experience? Hahaha lol dude 😅🙈🙈 it is better built with nicer materials and better tolerances when it comes to quality than any Tesla. This is just common knowledge at this point in time, but somehow you know better than anybody else because you once saw one? 🙈😅 haha! I like Tesla, and have driven a bunch in the channel. But objectively the Polestar 2 is a better car than a Tesla Model 3. I don’t dislike one because the other one is objectively better. Here you sound like a real Tesla fanboy with that logic 😅🙈 How do you know if Polestar will ever outsert Tesla? Can you predict the future? If they never will then who cares? Again, you are just grasping at straws here. Porsche will probably never outsell Ford, but who the F cares? They still make superior cars to Ford any day of the week 🙈🙈 Model 3 is good at many things, but there are some many EVs at this price point that do things better or different and the competition are getting better every day. And since you don’t seem to have any experience or knowledge about the contortion you may want to take it easy with the claims that either seems to be wrong or false.
Great video! I’m considering getting the 2023 Polestar 2 Long range single motor are you going to test that as well?
The Kempower display/app shows you what is limiting the charging speed at any given time.

No In northern Sweden it can be -15 Celsius or colder for several days in a row in January and February

No 25.4 is not low consumption compared to what a Tesla consumes in bad weather
And Bjørn Nyland would probably say that too
