pretty much every single build i've looked at using since 2019 to now, either from yourself or two other youtubers (won't mention names i know some youtubers don't like people promoting others) has been nerfed or does not have the same results in these build vids, it seems the devs go out of their way to nerf everything and make the game less and less enjoyable or too over the top grindy ( stacking a dozen potions an stuff) they've nerfed poison, bleeding, ranged and more like why? do they actively want people to stop playing? in the vids the builds look amazing an so much fun to play but when you're done grinding for everything to try it out it's like you are wearing tissue paper an hit with a sponge >_< love your vids though :)
@@Nova3261 yeah it's an odd design/patch style, constant nerfs, very few buffs etc. I get that they want it all to be challenging but I feel like eventually if they aren't careful, they may hit a point where they've nerfed too many things too much.

Can't say how much I love this video/guide. This is the first build guide I have ever seen that goes from start of the game to end game. Since most people looking for guides are generally new, having all these "end game" builds with no knowledge of how to get to that level and how to progress along the way is always so trash to say the least. I, and I'm sure many others, appreciate the effort you have gone to for such a guide!
it doesnt go from start to end....in order to even have the silver required to start this build (blue sand armor) you have to have ridiculous amounts of silver, something MOST new players wont have access too or knowledge to obtain. So nah this is more of a veteran players guide...
few notes for this build as of most recent patch (pc version) blue sand armor was nerfed like author already said by 5% on each elemental defense. what he didnt mention was master of motion is also nerfed from 15 to 10 points for all resists (the tooltip in the game sadly doesnt reflect this. but patchnotes show it and stats do aswell. tooltip simply wasnt corrected yet by the devs (they are aware of this already) which makes the monk breaktrough pretty questionable as perfect strike feels like a better choice now tbh. especially for 2hand burst. the bolt varnish or infuse wind both help this build much more than infuse light when useing starchild. the reason is that the % increase is only additive and 15% more is less total dmg added than the 15 base from the varnish. so joining holy mission just for that is not a good choice simply. the extra protection doesnt help you much when youre already at 90% resist to begin with as protection is calculated BEFORE resists come in apparently. due to the above nerfs its no longer possible to achieve complete immunity with a 2handed weapon. it is however still possible to achieve 100% elemental immunity with a 1handed weapon while holding the lantern of souls in offhand (NOT ON BACKPACK. doesnt work). of note : this makes master of motion nearly worthless to get of course as all it does its add 10% phys and impact res in this case which really isnt worth it compared anymore. or you can forfeit the runesage breaktrough as advanced protection really doesnt add much if you get master of motion. your call now. getting both is no longer good as total immunity simply isnt possible anymore with 2handed now. the lantern can null the above nerfs but forces 1handed weapon use. of note : alot of bosses only use 1-2 elements to begin with so getting all 5 to max was never all too useful to begin with. phys resistence is always helpful (aside new dlc bosses which ignore 50% of player defense by default anyway (cheap design) a large portion of this build still works just fine. just dont blindly follow it. maybe the auther can add an "slightly nerfed" to the video title. not sure. as for the memecore not spawning : it was a bug in the new dlc patch. its fixed now on pc live version. simply download newest patch and let forest area reset (wait 7days in other zone or inside berg) and then it should spawn in fine (unless you killed it before already ofc)
Just completed this build and o my is it fun. Cant wait to explore all of the dungeons with it. Was my first time coming back to the game in over 6 months due to frustration first time around. Have been playing 4 days straight now. So obsessed. Earned my sub👍
Loving this build so far! I originally was trying to make the one shot Archer build from an older video but they've Nerfed extreme bleeding on the bow skill. And I was finding pure melee builds to be very lackluster. Standing next to my mage friends who would just blow everything of. So this build has made me actually be able to play the game decently.
Top notch content as always ! Agree, since the last December upgrade , Blue Sand Armor is not that mega super powerful anymore (80% ish resistance with lantern of Souls equipped) , The Tenebrous Armour tends to be more powerful ( around 98% ish resistance with lantern of Soul equipped )... VIVE LA RESISTANCE !!!!!
ty for this build. i just pick the game up in the last sail on steam and played co-op with a friend for 11 hours today. hahaha i'm going to try this build out on my new solo Jim in a day or two. cant wait. ^_^
Holy time spent gathering and organizing this video. Outstanding video. Thank you so much for this. I just recently rebought the game and purchased Soroborens expansion. I really like how this build plays and tonight I am going to start collecting the silver and blue sand :)
I think it's great that your builds strike a nice balance between min/max, but also aim to a have a theme/aesthetic to the build. I have done both the "Speed is King" and this build. Although running around with the insane movement speed was nice, for fights I much preferred the close quarters combat and boon stacking shenanigans of this build over kiting with the movement speed build. Looking forward to trying either the hex knight or hurricane builds next for the dlc.
Very nice and coherent build. Did something close to that, I just took the philosopher skills instead of the Hermit's, lost that boon bonus but gained mana regen ( less headaches micro-managing potions) and fire dmg/resistance bonus. Also, I think it would be better to use the candle plate armor instead of the blue sand one and keep the blue sand helmet and boots, you gain physical protection and lightning resistance, the decay resistance lost from blue sand armor is negated by the purified skill and is enough to reach 100% decay resistance.
Churchy thank you so much for this excellent guide! Not much more than I can say that already hasn't, but you just earned yourself a new subscriber. Thanks again and looking forward to more content...
Oh wow, you are using a reasonably close version of my build for Outward, down to joining the Holy MIssion and everything. The only difference between us is I'm using Tsar Armor and a Tsar Claymore, I grabbed Perfect Strike over Master of Motion, and I absolutely ADORE using Wind Infusion with it, it completely negates the Tsar Claymore's downside of a 0.8 attack speed.
Cool build, i did something similar but with the merc tree for insta blood bullet regen and debuffing bosses with pistols. However, you can achieve similar resistances except cold (switch to blue sand or ammolite if needed but it's pretty rare) with the gold lich helmet, kintsugi armor and kintsugi boots. Biggest downside i've seen using full blue sand is how low the impact resistance is, so it's easy to get knocked down by some tough enemies. That set + eating a gravel beetle with give you about 93 of both physical and impact resistance while still being immune to fire, lightning and decay all the time if playing with the holy mission faction without a gaberry wine(still 70+ of frost and ethereal which are very rare, switch armor for wolf or ammolite if you ever need it). Also, an imbued sunfall axe will inflict a ton more damage than the claymores with it's devastating power attacks. TL:DR, Just a few min-mazing points, very cool build my dude.
Update. Just finished getting the starchild claymore and Zorn's hunting backpack. The fight against the Royal manticore was a freaking cake walk with this build. I love the star child claymore and am now going around to gather all the different boons and a few different other weapons that I want like the Pathfinder claymore. This build has given me hope for meele smashing again.
I haven’t done this build nor got the dlc but use chimera pistols, sigil of wind and if you have the dlc, learn doom and use it. If you don’t know how to get them, go on the wiki
What a guide honestly best build guide i have seen and i have been gaming for 27 years (Asherons Call God) the detail and the write up are exactly what i need. i am very new to this game but enjoyed it and i am at a stage where i can actually build this, (I watched it as i was in the hall about to unlock my mana and already have the blue sand armour). keep up the good work, sub like and bell from me.
magic is overpowered man. my buddy and i playing through for our first time playing co-op, we stumbled on the royal manticore. all we were doing was casting fireballs at it with spark in a fire rune and we killed it. we just thought it was a normal manticore, not royal.
Churchy sup dude! Firstly i love your movement speed is king video. Have tried it myself for my second playthrough. Can i make a request? Can you do a Geralt of Rivia build? Thank you!
Potion list (Used throughout not just for manticore): Garberry wine Rage potion Disciple potion Elemental Resistance potion Mineral tea Soothing tea Possessed potion (Deacay boon) Mist Potion and Spiritual varnish Warm potion and Fire varnish Marshmellon tartine and water Life and Astral potions
You coulda just killed the royal manticore by saving up your trip wire traps until you got to this point and then lining them up in a straight line. Iron spikes should be more than enough but if you have plenty of traps wood spikes will even do. Just lead the manticore into them as you run down the straight line of traps. Having a ranged weapon of some sort or magic is also helpful but honestly the traps of done right are more than enough wouldn’t even need to spend money on all those potions and survival items. One wood, one iron scrap, 2 linen cloth, boom two trip traps. 4 wood or 4 iron scrap and you have 3 spikes I believe, so you lose 1 scrap which is cheap af and woods free. You can always dismantle the iron spikes that are left over after the fight too and get 1 scrap back. I sell the scrap for 5 silver instead of 1 silver by going to vendaval fortress. Personally scrapping enemy human weapons and armor should give you plenty of linen and iron scrap, gather some free wood and you can make a ton of traps for cheap, much cheaper and faster for getting the manticore out of the way.
Never understood why so many people like the brass wolf backpack. Not the most useless one in the game, but there are several better options: Boozu hide for no dodge interference and -10 corruption; trader pack for 110 weight capacity; hunter pack for 85 weight cap., -10% stamina cost and 75% preservation.
I am almost done with build and it is amazing. I am having trouble with the three weapon skills. Like when and how to use the weapon skills. Any chance you could do a video on that?
Didn't see it in the patch notes but shamanic resonance doesn't work with discipline anymore in my game (PC). I get 30% for all the elemental resists still.
You put so much work into this man, super impressive. Do you record all the gameplay at once and then just cut it or do you record a bunch of segments and splice them then cut? Also do you record audio as you play, or do you narrate on top after you’ve edited the entire video?
A combination of all. I use footage taken from big gameplay sessions spliced with sections I've gone back and recorded specifically for parts of a video I still need footage for. Narration wise, I usually write a detailed script for build guides, I then record the script and edit the footage to the narration. Then I adapt the script to the written version of the guide. Occasionally I will just use dot points for a 'first impressions video' and very rarely I will record a bit of narration while watching back a piece of footage. Live audio is usually just in the 'Games with Bros' vids that are just straight up me playing games with mates edited into a montage/slight narritive. Thanks for watching :)
Churchy thank you so much for the reply! I’m wanting to make a bunch of Outward videos and build guides as there are not a lot of CURRENT videos out there, and I’ve been playing since day 1, but I’ve primarily only played on Xbox so teaching myself to record and edit has been a journey. What programs do you use to record your audio and where do you get the Outward soundtrack and stuff to lay in the background? So far I’ve got pretty comfortable with the basics of Davinci Resolve, but don’t know how to record my audio without recording live as I play lol
@@sageart9305 No worries, and awesome, I briefly used DaVinci once, it seems alright. For Video Recording I use OBS, it can record Desktop and Games etc. and has highly customisable settings. For Video Editing I use Magix Vegas Pro 14, formerly Sony Vegas. The side scrolling pop ups (step 1, step 2, etc.) I made in Affinity Photo which is a cheap/permanent license alternative to photoshop that does a lot of the same things. Gimp is a decent free alternative but a bit fiddly. For Audio Recording I use Studio One, but a good free alternative is Audacity To get the soundtrack in the background, I just recorded the tracks on TH-cam with OBS and then imported them into Vegas and separated the video from the audio. Occasionally in my videos I also compose little pieces to add in here and there but atm that's pretty rare and I usually just stick to the game soundtrack. Hope this info helps you and good luck with it all :)
Unlimited mana gun mage is my favorite build in this game. Literally never run out of mana and you drain life like it's nothing. You have to have something for ghost though since they be immune
You can easily do this with other weapons, worldedge axe is a good choice because it will benefit from a lot of stuff in this build too. I chose swords because I was enjoying chaining the light/heavy combo that makes you sidestep a bit and was also enjoying having 3 block/counter skills. I also wanted to make a nod to the Highlander movie and create an overall theme for the build. Swap between swords, axes and maces as much as you want or need to, just swap pommel counter out for the appropriate weapon skill and you're golden. Hope you have fun adapting the build to your play style :)
very cool! this game looks awesome but a bit overwhelming too.. i assume if i don't follow a guide for my first playthrough i'll miss all sorts of important stuff and finish with a character who hasn't scratched the surface of a true build's potential?
If you want to roam around and explored I'd recommend Movement Speed is King, if you want to do end game bosses go with The Highlander Also i'll probably be doing a pt2 of The Highlander soon that will cover how to become 100% Immortal and do some crazy damage.
You didn't state to say goodbye to the girl in starter city, if you don't she is not in monsoon for the holy mission part. Total PITA go all the way back twice Also a write up on combat tactics would have been great. Do we complete story line first etc etc. It sounded like a great build and I wanted to run it after trying the game again since 9 months ago. Sadly all I did was use bow because I was clueless on spells etc for this build
so i messed up and used one of the skill points early cause i wasnt paying attention is it still possible to be tanky with this build without all the monk stuff? i dont want to remake another character...
The Royal Manticore never spawned for me. Never saw it. I also tried leaving the world area and sleeping more than 7 days. Everything respawned but the stingy boy was not there.. Does anyone have an idea what to try to get it to spawn?
Yup! Massive issues on my end. Checked the area for two in game days and nothing. Left the zone (went to monsoon) for 7 days and came back, bam it was there. Rushed to the town to stock up, came back and it was gone!! So angry. But came back again after 7 days (doing quests) and he was there. This time I kept the stuff on me and i beat his dick off! Short story - Very frustrating with it all but leave the area for 7 days, be ready for the fight and when you enter the forest go straight there. Good luck!
@@rushr33 Thanks for Good Luck -wishesh. I was lucky enough to have it spawned after resting 7 full days in Cierzo. At fight I run out of stamina - no melon tartines - and died. Tried again, and was so near to beat it, but died again. No manticore in the area ever since. Otherwise this build is great fun.
@@tippikuppi no dramas mate, it can be a tough fight. I put down 5 traps before getting stuck into him, that helped a lot. You could even bait him over to some bandits or elk to take the heat off you while you hit him. Just be careful though, because if they get the last hit on him you may not get the achievement (if that matters to you) You'll have to let me know how you go!
@@ToastNA Yeah it's still pretty viable, just not quite as powerful Another decent Combo Resistance wise is Elite Hood Candle Plate Armor Blue Sand Boots
@@oloringreyhame4395 Can't you cast that shield without taking the rune mage breakthrough? I am trying to figure out why the rune mage breakthrough is taken.
@@thenightingale7405 yes, but the runic prefix adds more protection, and elemental resistance as well, which will give the invulnerability for the build I think
I would say yes, as you end up being quite tanky. The resistances this build provides allow you to take a few hits/make some mistakes, so it gives you a good chance to learn the combat etc. Keep in mind though it did get slightly nerfed in a patch at the end of last year. (slightly lower resistances)

few notes for this build as of most recent patch (pc version)
blue sand armor was nerfed like author already said by 5% on each elemental defense. what he didnt mention was master of motion is also nerfed from 15 to 10 points for all resists (the tooltip in the game sadly doesnt reflect this. but patchnotes show it and stats do aswell. tooltip simply wasnt corrected yet by the devs (they are aware of this already) which makes the monk breaktrough pretty questionable as perfect strike feels like a better choice now tbh. especially for 2hand burst.
the bolt varnish or infuse wind both help this build much more than infuse light when useing starchild. the reason is that the % increase is only additive and 15% more is less total dmg added than the 15 base from the varnish. so joining holy mission just for that is not a good choice simply. the extra protection doesnt help you much when youre already at 90% resist to begin with as protection is calculated BEFORE resists come in apparently.
due to the above nerfs its no longer possible to achieve complete immunity with a 2handed weapon. it is however still possible to achieve 100% elemental immunity with a 1handed weapon while holding the lantern of souls in offhand (NOT ON BACKPACK. doesnt work). of note : this makes master of motion nearly worthless to get of course as all it does its add 10% phys and impact res in this case which really isnt worth it compared anymore.
or you can forfeit the runesage breaktrough as advanced protection really doesnt add much if you get master of motion. your call now. getting both is no longer good as total immunity simply isnt possible anymore with 2handed now. the lantern can null the above nerfs but forces 1handed weapon use.
of note : alot of bosses only use 1-2 elements to begin with so getting all 5 to max was never all too useful to begin with. phys resistence is always helpful (aside new dlc bosses which ignore 50% of player defense by default anyway (cheap design)
a large portion of this build still works just fine. just dont blindly follow it. maybe the auther can add an "slightly nerfed" to the video title. not sure.
as for the memecore not spawning : it was a bug in the new dlc patch. its fixed now on pc live version. simply download newest patch and let forest area reset (wait 7days in other zone or inside berg) and then it should spawn in fine (unless you killed it before already ofc)

Potions drinking simulation game :D
Never understood why so many people like the brass wolf backpack. Not the most useless one in the game, but there are several better options: Boozu hide for no dodge interference and -10 corruption; trader pack for 110 weight capacity; hunter pack for 85 weight cap., -10% stamina cost and 75% preservation.
This content is excellent i appreciate the effort.
love u man :)))
Can’t wait for the update build 😜🥲
while you resting and drinking all potion, i just crouching setting 10 flame traps and drink some tea
I have never played this game yet i watched it all
best head on tanky build there is still in 2021
What sword did you grab at the beginning and up until you got the starchild?
Great video !
For Audio Recording I use Studio One, but a good free alternative is Audacity
To get the soundtrack in the background, I just recorded the tracks on TH-cam with OBS and then imported them into Vegas and separated the video from the audio.
Occasionally in my videos I also compose little pieces to add in here and there but atm that's pretty rare and I usually just stick to the game soundtrack.
Hope this info helps you and good luck with it all :)
u deserve mor subs really
I wanna see you abuse the magic system, like full on mage build.
I am planning to make some kind of magic focused build at some stage, I've got a couple of ideas brewing haha
@@ChurchyPlays ah yes man doit do it
Ya, i'd like to see this as well, also hex mage when the dlc drops, your guides are great.
Unlimited mana gun mage is my favorite build in this game. Literally never run out of mana and you drain life like it's nothing. You have to have something for ghost though since they be immune
@@Raydr62 I might have to give this a try, only problems i've had so far with guns is closed in spaces.
he used the swords because pommel counter and the starchild claymore has more damage and impact than the worldedge greataxe
hey dude, great one, ill be trying it for sure
just a question, why u use swords? could i do that with something like a worldedge axe?
Ive bought the game 2 days ago and i don't know what the hell is going on xD I'll come back when i gain more knowledge about the game thou. Good job!
Why bother with Infuse Light (base 6 plus 25%) when you can use Bolt Varnish (base 15 plus 10%) and join any faction?
My biggest problem with this game is there is NO WAY you would know how to do any of this without the internet or wasting hours and hours
@Howard the Duck how would you know that name would give you super speed without looking it up on the internet like the op said...
Just wondering what is the purpose of farming the endgame bosses. Are the items crafted from farmed relics etc the best in the game?
i cant kill the manticore, even with all the gear and potions, still dont have the max resistances as you did :(
only way i've been able to kill manticores is to cheese it with traps because the devs keep nerfing everything >_
Which of your 2 builds do you recommend for a first playthrough?
If you want to roam around and explored I'd recommend Movement Speed is King, if you want to do end game bosses go with The Highlander
Also i'll probably be doing a pt2 of The Highlander soon that will cover how to become 100% Immortal and do some crazy damage.
What's the best way to farm the 6400 silver? Just camping Ornate chests in Caldera? 0o
You didn't state to say goodbye to the girl in starter city, if you don't she is not in monsoon for the holy mission part.
Total PITA go all the way back twice
Also a write up on combat tactics would have been great.
Do we complete story line first etc etc.
It sounded like a great build and I wanted to run it after trying the game again since 9 months ago.
Sadly all I did was use bow because I was clueless on spells etc for this build
0:38 he states it and shows himself talking to her...
so i messed up and used one of the skill points early cause i wasnt paying attention is it still possible to be tanky with this build without all the monk stuff? i dont want to remake another character...
Hey how do you when you say cast your runic blade.... uh how do you do that like is it a rune magic sword or can you buy it?
The Royal Manticore never spawned for me. Never saw it. I also tried leaving the world area and sleeping more than 7 days. Everything respawned but the stingy boy was not there.. Does anyone have an idea what to try to get it to spawn?
What would be a viable way to play this build nowadays?
I would like to know this too
If the palladium great sword was strong enough then I would use that because it looks like a high lander s flamebeirge
Did the holy mission skill double ur defense too ? cause i dont get it and im just at 45 elem resistance (im not eng)
i hear text version i sub, im a simple man.
Do u have any recommendations for a sword/shield build?
Isn't light mender lexicon better to use with this build?
Is it possible to reach 100 resistance without the boon boost perk?
brb gonna go and knockdown lock manticore then.
Did they nerf this cause I'm only able to attain 90% resistance to everything
Am I really immortal? I'm scared off dying forever after finishing holy mission quests
Any one else having problems with Royal Manticores spawning? Love the build so far, but no Starchild Claymore, yet.
Just be careful though, because if they get the last hit on him you may not get the achievement (if that matters to you)
You'll have to let me know how you go!
I made a new game and went out back and never learned the starter skill is there away to learn it still ?
@@RedStickerMailbox Thanks
Is this still of relevance? Just bought the game and all dlc
The birb is so tired all the time :(
i killed the manticore with a bunch of traps
is this build still good?
Is there another set of armor that can be used since the blue sand nerf??
Golden Lich Mask
Wolf Plate
Crimson Plate Boots
Those 3 are a decent replacement for resistance builds for the current version of the game
@@ChurchyPlays sounds good! Thank you! Blue sand is still very viable for me so far, I haven’t had any issues with survivability with it.
@@ToastNA Yeah it's still pretty viable, just not quite as powerful
Another decent Combo Resistance wise is
Elite Hood
Candle Plate Armor
Blue Sand Boots
@@ChurchyPlays I’ll try them out for sure!
Why Rune Mage? I've looked through everything and I can't see what you are using it for?
The extra protection you get from the shield
@@oloringreyhame4395 Can't you cast that shield without taking the rune mage breakthrough? I am trying to figure out why the rune mage breakthrough is taken.
@@thenightingale7405 yes, but the runic prefix adds more protection, and elemental resistance as well, which will give the invulnerability for the build I think
@@oloringreyhame4395 Okay thanks. That answers my question.
Is this a good first playthrough build?
I would say yes, as you end up being quite tanky. The resistances this build provides allow you to take a few hits/make some mistakes, so it gives you a good chance to learn the combat etc. Keep in mind though it did get slightly nerfed in a patch at the end of last year. (slightly lower resistances)
Im just missing the breakthrough shaman thing XD I can't do this on my main
You can add/remove skills if you're on PC.
@@Scalpaxos with debug lol
@@dustinpeloquin5678 Obviously...
@@Scalpaxos I'm not one for cheating
Gotta nerf everything. Ruins the fun, thats what games used to be, fun.
Holy crap you do a lot of work for 1 video lol.
cheat codes are done with names in game... if you want to prove this isn't a cheat name it something that doesn't look like the cheat codes
Is this build still viable?
@@RedStickerMailbox thx
This video is really good but u say such a large amount of silver farm so casually
Is there another armormset that you would consider for this build?
In part 2, i talk a bit about that / push this build further. If it helps, here's a link - th-cam.com/video/ZstxHbpFK7Y/w-d-xo.html
wait. you took a bunch of skills that required points, and it was way more than 3 points. How did you pull that off?? (i'm super new to the game)
I had a character with this build exactly, but i lost my save... Someone with a kind heart can send me a save with this build? I'm not very inclined to go through this process again
i hate to sound dumb but is this an mmo? i dont see any other players...
@Jan Lukeš ah ok. cool
Why does everybody just run past stuff in guides for this game, doesn't help players actually overcome these challenges just teaches them to cheese game mechanics
trust me, its Dark Souls inspired, in there you can also run past mobs
