Yeah I mean another fine example of his character is PS4's Spider-Man game Shocker where he was only robbing those banks because he needed to pay off the Demons or they would kill him and they scared so much that time he couldn't really tell Spidey.
The scene of Spiderman getting blasted into that dumpster by the Sinister Six is actually a pretty fitting metaphor for the developer's treatment of the source material: They treated it like trash, we got trash.
"I'm glad you're here, Spiderman! Shocker is-" Shocker?! SHOCKER! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE FROM ME! i'LL HUNT YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EAAAAAAAARTH! "...All he did was rob a bank..."
Honestly this game wouldve been like cd-i levels of funny if they had symbiote suit spiderman in it, imagine all the unintentionally comedic one-liners
It honestly would've been an interesting idea to have both endings not be perfect endings, as Spider-Man has had to make several sacrifices to save the people of New York. The idea of having to choose between preventing Alvarez from getting his memory wiped and fighting Doctor Octopus kinda showcases the difficulty of being Spider-Man: you can't save everyone.
See, I thought the save Alvarez ending was true to the spirit of Spider-Man. After reading the comics for so long, I’ve been conditioned to treat endings where Peter saves the innocent parties and foils most of the bad guys but the big bad gets away as a win.
That was done better in the PS4 game. Spoilers for anyone who hasn't played, but if you're prepared; Both games feature the Sinister Six, both with Doc Ock acting as their leader. Near the climax of the game, Ock releases a virus that infects several people within NYC, Aunt May being among them. If you (hopefully) manage to defeat Doc Ock and retrieve the antidote, he is forced to choose between either using the limited cure to save Aunt May or synthesizing the cure to save everyone else, though Aunt May will die. He chooses to save the other citizens, leading to a sad yet somehow heartwarming scene where, on her deathbed, Aunt May reveals she knew that Peter was Ours Truly and says she's also proud of him for doing the right thing before dying from the virus while everyone else is saved. Ya think Insomniac was inspired by that game and wanted to fix it? Because to critics and fans, they succeeded, this PC game being nothing more than a memory... until Rerez made us remember it.
More puzzle games need easy modes like this one: “Professor it looks like we need to solve this puzzle to keep climbing the tower.” “Luke, here’s my answer.” *SMASH* “Critical thinking is the key to success.”

Yeah, I guess that's why Mac Gargan(The Scorpion); doesn't show up in this game. But I'm sure he wouldn't end the game by having Spidey save the day though, and I don't think he'd let MJ get captured by the Sinister Six of all things, because even Jameson isn't THAT bad, sure, he's a douche, but he wouldn't put MJ in danger like that, would he? No, he'd just end it after slandering Spider-Man's image, most likely. I guess that's where the ending where the Sinister Six throw Spidey into a garbage can comes from...
The idea of a Spiderman point and click adventure title actually doesn't sound bad on paper, it's just the execution in this case where it fell through. Pretty nice review here!
Following the events of this game, MJ's film career died due to word getting around about her husband showing up on set to constantly harass the crew for no reason.
Damn, that secret message at the end really hits hard. I feel so bad for the animators. Game was probably on a shoestring budget with an incredibly short deadline which only made things that much worse.

Yeah this game is almost as bad as that comic storyline where it's revealed that Goblin had sex with Gwen Stacy, and she had 2 kids that were now part of the Osbourne blood line. I wish I was making this up.
To explain the “Smerdyakov” thing, this is actually a result of the way the two different VAs spoke. The hint narrator was saying the name with a proper accent whereas Peter’s is trying way too hard to pronounce it phonetically, but you could’ve deduced the spelling somewhat if you actually followed the cryptogram correctly. Speaking of which, what is the damn point of “Mouse = Rodent”? It has nothing to do with the puzzle, and this game is clearly aimed towards kids so… why put in such a useless red herring?
Mouse=Rodent? My best guess is M=R, which would mean to take the given letter and go five over. Ya know, M being 0, N1, O2, P3, Q4, R5. The rest of the puzzle being solved similarly checks out with that.
@@Jacob_G9 One of two reasons. Either the developers chose two words that have extremely similar meanings whose first letters are five spaces apart, or they chose to use their PTO and just not care how this would throw most anybody off. My guess is the latter.
The "wrong" hint answer was probably right, actually. I think the hint voice was saying it as it's meant to be pronounced in the language it came from (Russian?), but Peter, being a different voice actor in a different room entirely, just pronounces it like an American.
I mean, Chameleon might assume Peter knows Spider-man on account of the fact that the thing Peter was best known for throughout the earliest years of the comic was being the only one who could get good photos of Spider-Man.
@@ethanku4390 As far as I know, that happened in one of the movies. The green goblin connected the dots and tried to shake down J. Jonah Jameson to find out who was taking the pictures.
22:00 I will say that could be a good plot for a game though. playing as a superhero, only every act is set up to make it look like the player has caused an accident. This could lead to some interesting choices like "do you keep trying to save the day, or try to find who's responsible to prevent the loss of more life" actually take the superhero out, and make it some poor teenager, and that could be a pretty good horror mystery game. and with that I have half the plot points figured out. lol
This game looks like The Town With No Name if it had a slightly bigger budget. The keyword being “slightly” Peter in this game looks kinda like Ricky “Garbage Day” Chapman from Silent Night Deadly Night 2
The fact that the team suffered INJURIES making this "game" makes me wonder how bad the development team was at this game. Let alone whatever kind of abuse they had put up with to warrant the mention of severe injuries

This is the most caring I've ever seen the Shocker. Not only weighing the cost of a single man's life against the lives of millions but also going out of his way to make sure Spider-Man doesn't feel all too guilty about making such a weighty decision.
As far as I can tell, the Hint lady actually pronounced Smedyakov correctly in terms of how the name would be pronounced in Russian, but the fact that they didn't anglicise the name for both pronunciations is really annoying to me.
29:32 I hate to defend this, but he's actually Clark Kenting his entire body language too, which sells it better. In the video you can easily hop back and forth between the Parker sprite and the Spider-Man sprite in the same scene. He's slouching so much as Peter that he visually is shorter than MJ, but when he stands up straight, as he does as Spider-Man, he's actually taller than her. It's a minor detail, but it does actually give him a more reasonable way of selling his disguise than usual, since he's faking his height and body language.
But spider-man rarely stands still. Where Superman fights upright and up front, spider-man in most interpretations is in constant motion and tends to minimize his profile by crouching. Spider-man already has his own unique way of moving.
Isn't it weird that the only ending where Spider-Man loses is somehow less sad than the one where he only fails to save one person, but still saves the day in the end?
“Spider-Man,Spider-Man playing picross in a garbage can. This is hard to complete, rats are nibbling at his feet. It smellllls, please help the Spider-Man.”

They DID end up making a good game in 1996, Brooklyn Multimedia released the Click and Point adventure game Private Eye, which adapted the wonderful Phillip Marlowe story "Little Sister." But let's not drag down Stan Lee too. This would've made the poor guy roll over in his grave if he saw this awful game...
Soooooo, every correct decision you make in this game, including the best ending, is Spider-Man doing the wrong thing and the problems being solved off-screen by someone else. Genius.
Shocker always intrigued me, honestly the whole supervillain with a conscience thing, that's probably one of the most complex tropes and I've always liked it.
I don’t know why but I like MJ’s character model in her first breakout movie role cutscene she’s actually kinda detailed compared to everyone else including Peter
I'd never heard of Shocker so I looked him up, and one of his notable traits on wikipedia is that he's just a mercenary with no world-ending plans, and if things go south he'll team up with Spider-Man. If a kid playing this new about that from the comics they would probably never get the good ending.
I wish all games had a mode where you could just obliterate puzzles instead of solving them. It's much cooler than skipping/autocompleting it or a hint that gives the answer.
"What are you waiting for Parker? I need PICTURES! PICTURES of SPIDER-MAN! I don't care what they are!" Peter: Ok. *Dresses up and plays picross in a garbage can*
From what I remember shocker always seemed to be more of a sympathetic villain, like he only did crime to try to make a living and would generally try not to hurt any people
Shocker being sympathetic is especially true if you read ultimate Spider-Man. In issue 122 of ultimate Spider-Man we learn ultimate shocker has it rough.

I don't know how hard it is to create branching options in an interactive story game, but at least it's not like in Left Alive where you make the decision and it's completely dropped later, in this game you actually get to DO different stuff with those options!
While that's true, Left Alive came out years after this awful game. And even so, the branching options in this game don't really lead to anything except a bad ending. But I will admit, that I want to see both a good Spider-Man movie and game where The Shocker decides to help Spider-Man out. So that's one point the game gets. But only one. Sure, the branching paths thing is creative, and a good idea for a Spider-Man game; but it's too bad these ideas were wasted on a crappy game instead of well deserved Spider-Man game with these options. But at least the 2 recent Spider-Man games give the ol' Web-Head a good name.
Well Tell Tale did it fairly well where every path led to the same road, but your experience was relatively yours. It is like in Walking Dead Season 1. You have to choose to save either Carley or Doug and your decision leaves one alive and one dead. The writers kept the character that you saved alive for a little while longer and you got to know them more and connected with them. That character obviously had to die to balance everything out in the long run. It was actually really well done in that game. Don't Nod also did some nice branching paths in the first Life is Strange game like watering a plant or trying to talk a girl off a ledge.
Kind of. Its like an animation that pauses so you can load the next sections with more than one for the same time stamp. But your choice here only impacts the next section and not the overall result.
The Falcon cameo, and the branching story feature, are actually pretty nice. Like, it's not a well-realized game, especially for the time, but like... it's an okay Spidey adaptation. Am I going crazy? Yes. Plus, it's another sporadically really dark game that managed to get away with a K-A/E rating because it looks like something for preschoolers.
This game is just a Telltale game, but without the love and passion that are seen in most of their games Edit: I mean, telltale already made 2 superhero games. Batman and The Guardians of the Galaxy, I think a Spider-Man telltale game would be a great idea. While I never played these two games. I finished The Walking Dead Season 1, and finished season 2 episode 2, and so far, It's amazing.
I was curious and figured out the way the word riddle at 25:20 was supposed to be solved. And it's absolutely stupid: The "Mouse=Rodent" hint is ridiculous, because the only thing its supposed to tell us, is that the first letters of both words are the same. So M=R. The other letters of both words? Red Herrings. Then the game expects you, to look down at the alphabet and realize that the "R" comes five letters after the "M". M -> N -> O -> P -> Q -> R Then you have to apply that logic to all the other letters in the puzzle. J -> K -> L -> M -> N -> O so J=O for example The game just confuses the player and doesn't give enough information to solve this properly.
30:50 someone has to turn that into a walking animation. Just remove the webs & background, then put spidy on an common walkway, I'm sure you'll get a hilarious durp walk.
17:51: I can’t help but think of Duddley Puppy when Adam talks, especially when this made me think of that one-off joke of T.U.F.F. Puppy, where in the first episode (“Purrr-fect Partners”) they said Duddley has a dash of Billy Goat.
Imagine if the separate puzzle difficulty in a future Silent Hill game (Or an indie game inspired by the franchise) gave you the option to do something as ridiculous as the wrecking ball thing here or do a simpler puzzle. And punish you for doing the former by having it so that doing it ONCE gets you the bad ending.
@@cashomnitrix The story is actually shockingly accurate in its portrayal of Shocker. He doesn't really care about revenge and he doesn't want to kill people, he just wants money. He's even done a few superhero-y things here and there.
MJ is more sophisticated and pronounces the name with its proper accent/pronunciation. Peter Parker is just reading the paper; he can't actually hear MJ. besides, once you have the rest of the words in-place, you can look at the bottom letters and use them to solve the rest. (N = S, Z = D, etc.)
@@nthgth Buuuuut.....I don’t think it DID have an “L” sound. The VA on the hint pronounced the syllable “kov” as “kohv,” albeit kinda softly, which made half of the “V” sound disappear and caused Shane and Adam to hear it as an “L.”
Just to play Devil's Advocate, the idea of a point-and-click adventure for a comic book license isn't completely awful. Sam & Max is a classic for a reason, and I imagine a lot of people would love to play a Daily Planet game where Lois and Jimmy find the big story behind LexCorp
So the director guy was the chameleon the whole time. That means while he was posing as the director he had to direct an entire movie just to keep from blowing his cover. Thats pretty dedicated to the plan.
12:33-12:49 Well, I have no clue how this was possible, but you guys did it. You made a parody version of the classic Spider-Man theme song that's even funnier than "Spider-Pig".

If only the game were more fun.
John your fired Matt your hired
Just like how Spider-Ham said.
That was done better in the PS4 game. Spoilers for anyone who hasn't played, but if you're prepared;
Both games feature the Sinister Six, both with Doc Ock acting as their leader.
More puzzle games need easy modes like this one:
“Professor it looks like we need to solve this puzzle to keep climbing the tower.”
“Luke, here’s my answer.”
*SMASH*
“Critical thinking is the key to success.”
Now we can get an idea on how it'd have made some Layton puzzles a breeze.

30:49 Peter looks scared, the cop looks shocked and Mary Jane looks like she's about to kill them both.
To explain the “Smerdyakov” thing, this is actually a result of the way the two different VAs spoke. Speaking of which, what is the damn point of “Mouse = Rodent”? It has nothing to do with the puzzle, and this game is clearly aimed towards kids so… why put in such a useless red herring?
Mouse=Rodent?

I was curious and figured out the way the word riddle at 25:20 was supposed to be solved.
And it's absolutely stupid:
The "Mouse=Rodent" hint is ridiculous, because the only thing its supposed to tell us, is that the first letters of both words are the same.
So M=R.
The other letters of both words? Red Herrings.
Then the game expects you, to look down at the alphabet and realize that the "R" comes five letters after the "M".
M -> N -> O -> P -> Q -> R
Then you have to apply that logic to all the other letters in the puzzle.
J -> K -> L -> M -> N -> O
so J=O for example
The game just confuses the player and doesn't give enough information to solve this properly.
It's actually what is known as a Ceaser Cipher
30:50 someone has to turn that into a walking animation. Just remove the webs & background, then put spidy on an common walkway, I'm sure you'll get a hilarious durp walk.

12:33-12:49 Well, I have no clue how this was possible, but you guys did it.
You made a parody version of the classic Spider-Man theme song that's even funnier than "Spider-Pig".
@Daniel Leinad :(
The bi-derman parody is also pretty funny
@Daniel Leinad I can't believe that classic Hulk villain, Abomination, is gay. I'm proud of them for coming out
I was just watching old episodes thinking how bad i wanted a new episode. Thanks guys!
3:52 Instead of "Now that's a Spider-Man game" another acceptable joke would have been:
" You okay there Peter? You look kind of vacant."
"Oh he's probably just having a flashback too, oh I don't know, name a traumatic event in the comics"
"Sounds about right"
When his radioactive sperm was killing MJ?
@@Zezlemet I was waiting for someone to bring that up. Other than Matt McMuscles, I mean.
"SPAYDUR MEN!
SPAYDURRR MIIIIEEEENNNN."
Maybe One More Day or the Clone Saga?
@@Zezlemet Radioactive....sperm???
"Is that pee-pee" is the single best line I have ever heard. Thank you so much for blessing this world with comedy 😂

The hint answer is actually correctly pronounced as it would be spoken in russian.
Peter not being a native russian speaker would pronounce it anglocized with the "sm" sound rather than the phonetically correct "sch" sound as spoken in cyrillic.
The "easy" puzzle option is unironically really funny and probably the only "good" part of this game

An edit so tiny yet so hilarious. It's these little things that make your videos amazing.
Nothing can top the amazing acting in the Gundam game
For the FREEDOM OF JEANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEE
Which Gundam game??
@@SuperPeterok Check out their "Just Bad Games" video on the Gundam game.. It's hilarious xD
@@artstrange3230 Who's jean?!? I thought it was for the Principality Of Zeon!? You can't even get the name of the organization you're dying for right!?! What the hell?!
@@shawnfields2369 Yeah they pronounced Zeon as Jean as they went off of the japanese pronounciation and they called Zakus Zacks in it. Its one of the most cursed bits of Gundam media tbh.
7:47, every time they do that, I bust out laughing XD
From a company that previously made Baywatch and Seinfeld screensavers, I'd say it's an ambitious move forward. I'm not saying it's a great game but you can't expect Broken Sword from a screensaver company. That's like shouting at a child for being a terrible dolphin trainer when they only previously fed a goldfish. You can't expect Sea World standards at first.
You should look up Byron Preiss, the guy who made all this. He wrote a book called "The Secret" in the 80's and it was a treasure hunt that hasn't been solved yet.
Then maybe they should have started with a more modest game that didn't attempt to shoehorn a superhero into a point-and-click.
@@3rdalbum You're right but that wasn't their business model. They licensed stuff to make software products.
