My fav “meme-able sequence” I’ve seen from this show (and tbf I don’t know the context but) is when spider-man shoots some web onto a window, then punches a hole in the glass, then just opens it. It’s not like he reached in and unlocked the window, he just opened it bc apparently it wasn’t locked to begin with. Both him shooting the web and him punching the glass was completely unnecessary lol

That one joke has literally convinced me to watch the show. Small jokes that often don’t make it to reviews ARE my joy. The idea of Webbing, breaking and then just straight up opening a completely unlocked window is such a good visual gag. I hope there’s plenty of that kind of gag! Sounds like a good goofy experience.

      MINOR SPOILERS
I kinda thought that was the point considering his whole character is supposed to be misguided but wrong and coming from an understanding place.
Like a representation of spidey fans, the legacy of Spider-Man and miles reception alike mixed in with general interpretations of traits 2099 already had.
I mean out of a whole legion of spidermen all on the same side as him, (some of which being literal animals) he’s the only one foaming at the mouth with bloodshot eyes and running on all fours. Characters question if he’s even really a Spider-Man/hero at all numerous times in the movie with how obsessed he is about upholding his legacy despite not being much like peter or his stories at all.
I feel like him building a legion of spider people who aren’t the type to go against him is intentional otherwise the miles incident he had on the subway would happen with 10 other spidermen a week lmao. So of course his choosing his shitty.
Even his grudge and logic towards miles doesn’t make any sense anyways considering it was kingpin who started all this. Miles didn’t even have to help but chose and was pushed to through the blessing of 2 (and later 6) spidermen total. If he chose to do nothing the whole spiderverse would be fucked and there’d be a billion more spots running around 💀
So Miguel’s logic clearly isn’t all there

    • @mrcritical6751
      @mrcritical6751 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@theradionicrevival8068 honestly I think Miguel likely became more picky after he destroyed the other 2099 universe. He wouldn’t have picked Peni and Peter B if he was that reluctant to recruit Gwen, my guess is after he realised what anomalies and canon events were he became much sterner in his selection process and kept all spider-people who’d likely turn on him, refuse to help keep canon events going and would take Miles’ side out. Honestly the one decision I’m questioning is Pravitr as he hasn’t experienced his canon events yet, has only been Spider-man for 6 months and can’t take shit seriously cause he thinks being Spider-man is easy, why would Miguel hire him? Was he hiding the canon events from him?

It really speaks to Ralph Bakshi‘s legendary status just seeing the difference between seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 is about what you expect for a low budget 60s cartoon, so for the guy to suddenly inject so much mood and atmosphere on an even SMALLER budget really is just such a good example of his strengths as an animator.
I don’t love everything he’s made, but damn if the man never fails to create something worth looking at.

Great video! I've seen lots of people cover this series, but you're one of the only people who seems to really know what he's talking about. Apart from letting that one 1981 meme slip in. I'll tell ya one thing, in the comics Spidey did make himself stuff out of webs more often then you'd might think, of course it never went as far as a web-boat
I love how when you look at the way The Rhino moves you can see that they were capable talented animators, they just weren't used to animating outside of comedy, with these characters who had human proportions and had to look cool or scary instead of stupid or silly.

The lizard has a more interesting backstory in this version than he does in the comics and movies.
    Both are hysterical.

I first discovered the old Spider-Man 60s cartoon here on TH-cam, because my grandma grew up with this when she first had my mom when she was just born at a few months old.

I LOVED THIS CARTOON. When I was a tiny kid I watched this on TV and giggled furiously as I realized his webs must have hung off of clouds and they used the same animation over and over again.

You know that same moment of Scorpian going after J.J. Jameson for having Gargan getting stuck in his suite and then Spider-Man saving J.J. by defeating Scorpian was used for the 1999 Spider-Man video game.

There’s always something that amused me particularly about the image of him sitting at a desk.
It’s simple but just the fact he has a picture of himself in the *exact* same position on the wall behind him is very silly

Captain Stacey taken hostage at a prison was adapted from comic book issue #65. The Kingpin/Mary Jane episode adapted from issue #59-61. And "The Madness of Mysterio" from issue #66-67.

Early JJJ really was more like the conspiracy theorist type as seen in the MCU and Insomniac games. In his first appearance, he blames Spider-Man directly despite evidence otherwise. The principled journalist aspect of him came later. So I'm not surprised that he turned out so antagonistic if they were pulling from the earliest comics.

As someone who watched this show religiously as a child, I'm a little sad that the season 1 episode Fountain of Terror didn't get a shout alongside Night of the Villains. FoT also explored the "Spidey vs. Historical Figures" concept, but instead of fakes, the plot involved the actual Ponce de León who had been granted immortality by the Fountain of Youth kidnapping Dr. Connors. Even on a show as weird as this, that one always stuck out as particularly bizarre to me.

I was born in 96 I grew up on Raimi’s Spider-Man but USM was my first Spider-Man cartoon
And it will forever be special for that
The show does have its own comics and does crossover with the 60s Spider-Man cartoon so that’s fun
USM did do well at developing its main cast members and had the guts to be unique and one of a kind from any other Spider-Man adaptation and break the traditional and they have my respect for that
    It did something differently
I’ve seen more people look back on USM better compared to a few years ago I think that’s because people who grew up with it are now old enough to form their own opinions and talk about their love for it
Same will be for sm17 in a few years no doubt

I recently read about 20 issues of the original spider man comics from the early years. It was a mystery who Green Goblin was for a long time. I could be wrong but when this cartoon was made I don't think his identity had been revealed yet.

I remember watching this entire series on TH-cam when i was like 8. I loved it. Scooby-Doo Where are You?, this show and Batman 66 helped me appreciate older media and recognize the limitations and the enjoyment you can still find from them. I loved the first season and remember watching the second season and being confused as to why the origin story played AND LOOKED SO FUCKIN GOOD. I was shocked. But after the kingpin episode it got pretty boring though. I loved that he created a new web formula every episode and kinda got me into loving routines. It's weird. Love this show
