Chuck there is something seriously wrong with you old man.... (hehehe)... Entertaining as hell, but you must have caught the Cabin Fever LOL.... That's what I love about your channel, you just never know what we'll find you up to next. I'm sitting here with a sweater, warm slippers and a hot cup of tea watching you crawl around in the snow. Everything Outdoors and then Some !!! You're quit the character my friend. Looking forward to seeing where you take us next.
Hahah. Gotta agree with you on that one too buddy lol. Sometimes I feel I’m 50 but going on 15. Winter and offgrid might be winning the battle against me 😂😂
You and I are of the same mind Chuck, city is no good but conveniences can overwhelm. I don’t like having to be on point always… better to be free. Thanks
Great video! Two weeks ago here in Iowa we had near record low temps and 20 inches of snow in 3 days. My boys (8 and 4) were outside making their own igloo. Now we are getting 40 degree temps and rain. We love your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Your videos are super good just one word makes it Special LABRADOR Wow Northern Canada what a interesting Place to have a beautiful cabin that you built with your own hands, thanks for the Adventure. and all the things you shows along the way.
Well.. that seals the deal on the importance of the center poll for snow load...The Eskimo just keeps impressing me...The proof is in the doing...a great way to gain confidence in your gear for those far from home trips...when it really matters Thanks again👍
When I started shovelling, I literally thought-no way this is holding. It’s perfectly fine. I checked it again last evening (we even had another couple inches of snow)
I minds da time back in da day ( newfoundland accent ) we would make snow forts , we would keep it warm with just a few candles , Chuck you're a kid at heart , ya gotta love da guy !
Laying on the top bunk of my disco bunk beds in my Eskimo 450xd On Log Lake in Northern Maine watching a Chuck Porter Video about Winter camping. Seems fitting! Been here since Thursday fishing a derby. Thanks for all the great content Chuck!
Haha this is fantastic Chuck! Now you're giving me ideas 😅 I just might try this with my small ice hut in the yard. Probably won't sleep in it but it'd be nice for a boil up! I'll make sure to install a centre pole first. Can't wait to see what you've got in store for the next video!
lol you are have to much fun. Sure brought back childhood memories. We dug a lot of tunnels and snow forts, kept us busy out of the house for hours. Not sure if it’s an igloo , more like Chuck-loo. Thanks.
Not crazy at all, but a great idea for sure! If you set this up in a high traffic area it hides your tent from other travelers that might have slippery fingers if you know what I mean. A great place to relax for sure Chuck.
Hello friend. I can see in this video that you involuntarily return to similar games of mine from scouting in the years of my early youth. Also during winter camping we sprinkled the tents with snow to make it warmer or stubbornly built a real igloo of ice and spent the night there. I envy you this winter because in Poland, in my region, I can now see snow in pictures. It is the end of January 26.01.24a outside temperatures of +13 - +11. Much health for you and the dogs.
To strengthen my ice hut 7×7 "Woods" Ice Hut I use a Painters Pole- Adjustable, Works Fantastic !! - drill a new hole(sliding shaft) if the holes don't line up OR a piece of Wood. LOL'S Stay Safe Every1 🇨🇦
Its almost like a quince - your stove is a vent and I think this would work quite well. We used to make these when we were scouts! Get candle or two. They will save your life!!
I guess ideal heater there will be the diesel heater. For my stealthy tree hunting cabin I am using a candle stove. It’s a 50cal ammo can turned into a candle stove. I seen it in a yt video
Great video Chuck look forward to the cook up. by buddies and i used to make Igloo's when i was a young fella but now it's not enough snow in a haft mile to make one. we used to have so much fun in them. have a great weekend coming up.
@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors i like food from sitting at the kitchen table to sitting on a wood stump in the woods or anywhere in between. Food tastes better in the woods by far and a nice hot cup of tea
Hey Chuck, have you considered putting a permanent ladder or stair to access the roof? Possibly a walkway in front of your solar panels? Just for ease and safety. Place looks great.
That was fun! A Trangia alcohol stove would both heat your tentgloo and cook meals without producing carbon monoxide. A catalytic heater would provide heat as well and only consume oxygen. Would need to start outside the tent first though. I have a vintage Coleman catalytic heater that attaches to a propane camp cylinder. Throws alot of heat. My main concern would be the windows caving in with just velcro holding them shut. Interestingly, the Inuit always built the entrances lower than the inside to trap the colder air. Thats why the seal oil lamps were able to heat the igloo enough to survive. Staying tuned for next episode for sure. In any case it will be a 2 dog night if all works out😊.
No doubt you will figure it out Chuck! Always a pleasure tuning in to see your ingenuity. One unrelated thought has to do with avoiding a roof climb to clear snow from your solar panels. You could attach a brush (or row of bristles) to the opposite side of your roof snow rake. You could then just flip the rake and brush the panels providing you can reach them. I do this with my telescopic rake to clean off my satellite dish when it fills with snow as my roof is too steep to climb. Cheers to ya!
I think you actually could use your wood stove to heat. Leave the door open for vent. Your tent is insulated and snow gives you another insulation barrier against the cold. Wouldn't take meat as much to heat the tent with having the snow around. Condensation would be the hardest part to control.
Well Chuck...it kindq looks like the snow forts i used to make when i was a kid waaay back in thw day haha...i think you're going thru your second (or third) childhood haha...but youre outdoors having fun great video...take care buddy🤙
Hey Chuck! You'd likely be able to light the wood stove. The heat would melt the snow immediately against the tent but would freeze to a hardened shell I would think. May even make the whole thing stronger. A piece of 4inch pipe shoved in through the entrance would give you air. Sorry, I know it's your experiment but man oh man you have my brain working. Lol. Have a good one.
Awesome Video Chuck, definitely an interesting video and it was funny because the moment you said as you were crawling in or out the tent, "I hope you guys appreciate the angles" I was just saying to the missus , man he's doing a lot of going in and out to get all the in and out angles. I'm thinking a bluetti with a small portable heater might work as an heat source , but not sure if it would cause melting snow and tentbto ice up ? Sounds like you had the wheels turning lol. Looking forward to seeing what you have planned next lol.
Hmmmm. Well, seeing you crawl in and out of that 'igloo' all could think of, you have given a new meaning to a 'butt plug' lol. I'm with NLGhostWolf on this one. hahahaha
I always enjoy kicking back with a coffee while watching a new video of yours. A welcome respite from the woke madness in our lives today. Thanks for sharing, Chuck.
Had to change my vacation plans due to a death in Mel’s family. So I couldn’t make it back to try out the other heat source. But it’s all sorted now fortunately.
Well I will be waiting for the interesting heat source, the major one is how warm can it safely be before the structure is compromised. You left us hanging! Until…..
Can you do this on a mountain? I would like to know because, in theory, this could keep the heat and stop the wind from being so bad. I don't know since I'm not a mountaineer.
Could you put a buddy heater inside the woodstove? or just a bunch of candles? That way combustion stuff, water, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide would escabe through chimney and if run gentle the snow should be ok.
She has been out of town for a couple of weeks. Pretty sure she will be involved in my next winter project tho. It’s gonna be a huge one!!! 😉👍. All the best to you and Dave ❤️
Glad to see you enjoying yourself in the elements you never know someday you may have to pitch your tent and cover it with snow in a real survival event it will be a piece of mind to know that it will be safe to do so but we certainly hope you don't
Chuck. I retire in 3 years at 55. Was at Sail last week looking at fishing huts! 😅 All your fault b'y! I would love to go off grid like yourself! Cheers from Eastern Ontario!
Hi Chuck, maybe you've already been asked this question. I was wondering why you don't cover the ski doo's? I know it wasn't a thing when I grew up down home. Guess I've been away too long. I cover my skidoo now. To be honest I wouldn't cover it anymore if I was promised snow. Raining here...😔
Good day. We get asked that question a fair bit. Covering up a skidoo would be extremely time consuming, given the fact we use them at minimum 6 months per year. And use them every day usually. So, to look at the nights, that would be about 180-200 times a year they would need to be covered/ uncovered. Also consider they are built for the snow, and to withstand snow load. I often say to people, if I was going to cover something, it would be my car! lol. A final thing is, when you do cover them, often times the cover freezes to the machine, and then when you uncover them, it may actually ruin the decals, or even worse, rip off a button (such as a kill switch, helmet power source, etc).
Chuck, I was wondering if you could construct a tripod that would support yer roof at its apex & also support the other 2 bulging sides with 2 of the remaining legs ? I don’t know the configuration of yer Eskimo ice tent & don’t know if a tripod would be practical. If it would work, it would also free up space in the center of yer tent. Just an idea. Entirely possible. I find that when you originally put your snow pole in, it always seem to be in the way. However, after a little bit, you tend to “automatically “ manoeuvre around it

The inspiration that you create is phenomenal. Another barn burner of an experiment
Awesome snow fort. Always fun watching your videos. Keep living the dream.
I minds da time back in da day ( newfoundland accent ) we would make snow forts , we would keep it warm with just a few candles , Chuck you're a kid at heart , ya gotta love da guy !
Hoping to be able to heat it and spend the night. Got a heat source in mind. Working on it👍
Awesome experiment, thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to see what you will be cooking up! Take care my friend!!
Can’t wait to give the heat source a try. It’s on the way!!👍
Reminds me of digging snow forts into the banks as a kid in montreal
another great video chuck thanks buddy.
Another great video can’t wait to see the cook up
Digging tunnels in the snow was a passion as a kid!
Appreciated those camera angles yes! Lol
Yep, definitely cabin fever. Seen it before but never this bad. lol. Thanks for sharing Chuck, much enjoyed.
Hahaha. It’s getting to me!! Might need a rescue soon!!

Got the new heat source a-comin! 👍
Oh my gosh Chuck, only in Canada will ya see Chuck making an igloo with an Eskimo fishing shack inside. You always amaze me. Keeper up boys, love it

Excellent video Chuck!! As Steve Martin once said, (2008) God bless he's soul. "I'm a wild and crazy Guy" Thanks.

God love him. A precious gem ❤️

13:41 buddy heaters have Ben tested. They are pretty safe inside. I use it in my fish hut every time. I even cook on it
we dont seem to get snow in the UK Chuck so i would love to do this one day
That’s interesting Chuck buddy I think I’d a lit the stove just to see what would happen. Looking forward to the next one
Couple people suggested that. Might have to give er a go!!

Yes I’ve seen those as well. Very cool! (Or warm I should say lol)
Chuck old buddy you have to give up drinking the water in your lake. Lol Great video buddy
Hahaha! There’s definitely something gone to the head lol.
Yes, we're all a little strange here in Canada when winter hits. Can't beat it so may as well make the best of it.
Great video Chuck look forward to the cook up. by buddies and i used to make Igloo's when i was a young fella but now it's not enough snow in a haft mile to make one. we used to have so much fun in them. have a great weekend coming up.
Yes always a good laugh growing up for sure. Yo have a good weekend too bud
Try heating with a couple of Crisco Candles, or maybe even Sterno with clay pots.
Another great video. Would love to see you and JAY LEGER get together, vist each others cabins etc. Happy Trails.
Yes. I chat with him occasionally. On opposite sides of the country but would be awesome!!!!
Well that takes the cake. Fun though. I'm a little claustrophobic. Thanks bud.
Haha. It was unnerving the first time I poked my head inside I must say!
Once again, I love the video Chuck. One of these days, I'll get to meet you, and you can cook up a scoff for me. I love food too. Hahahaha
Absolutely bud. I hope you like food in weird settings if you’re gonna have a scoff next to me lol

😂😂
Hey Chuck, have you considered putting a permanent ladder or stair to access the roof? Possibly a walkway in front of your solar panels? Just for ease and safety. Place looks great.
Yes I have. On the rear of the cabin. Just has t come to fruition yet. Too many snow experiments lol
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors definitely a summer project. Cheers
Poke breather holes out where the windows are. An inch to an two inch stick. Several hole each window. Providing those clear pieces come off. 😊
Yes they do actually 👍

Haha. Hoping to have a fourth!!!!
Nothing like digging snow caves to keep a guy young lol!
Just wondering if you’re diesel heater would work with just the heater hose inside turned down on low just to keep the chill out!
I’m sure it would but I was just curious on something much more simplistic for a change 👍
Hey Chuck! You'd likely be able to light the wood stove. The heat would melt the snow immediately against the tent but would freeze to a hardened shell I would think. You sorted your heat source out yet! When will you be revisiting the igloo? Great to watch mate!
Had to change my vacation plans due to a death in Mel’s family. So I couldn’t make it back to try out the other heat source. But it’s all sorted now fortunately.
Sorry for your loss mate! Deepest sympathies. Glad you are all sorted now!@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
That would be your body heat making the quinzee 20 degrees warmer I guess. Then again maybe it merits a test.
Well I will be waiting for the interesting heat source, the major one is how warm can it safely be before the structure is compromised. You left us hanging! Until…..
Haha. Had to source something and looks like I can get it. It’s on the way 😉

Tks Brent. I really had no idea it could withstand such snow on it. I doubt most would be the same.
If that holds up that's saying a lot about the Eskimo brand. We have an Eskimo so we are rooting for it.
Still perfectly in tact as of yesterday when I checked. 👍👍. Really amazed
Thats awesome!!

I just found out that fahrenheit and celcius converge at -40 degrees. No conversion needed when it gets that cold. 😏
