TURNING ANOTHER ICE FISHING TENT INTO A HOT TENT - BIGGER & BETTER!! (Cold & Windy Overnight TEST!)

  • In this video, I turn yet another ICE FISHING TENT into a HOT WINTER TENT. I take a brand new Eskimo 949i shelter and use a minimal amount of tools and effort to convert in into a shelter suitable to handle a small tent stove. Cutting wood, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cooking up great meals make up this overnighter which is hailed a success on all counts. Come along with Willow and I on this exciting journey to see how all the challenges unfold!
    Thanks for tuning in,
    Chuck Porter

    *Great lightweight shelter. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s love how it blocks the light from outside. It was a pain to open the first time but now that it is broke in goes up easy..*

    The bigger the piece of wood, the longer it will burn. Use cut pieces to start the fire and big pieces to keep it going. Don’t chop all your wood. We call the big ones all-nighters.

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip. I used the same method, however, most all this wood had a thin layer of ice on the outside and so splitting it to access the dryer inside section was my best option. Thanks for tuning in with a good experienced tip👍

    I just switched from the Eskimo 949 to the Eskimo Outbreak 450 for the same reasons you moved up from the 6x6 tent... plus one big game changer. A door that opens all the way to the ground. Much easier to get in and out of with your arms full and big boots on. A little more money, today, than the 949 because it is a new model but well worth it if you make a lot of trips in and out and can't afford to be falling and tweeking an ankle or knee. Loved the ease of your conversion of the roof vent to a stove jack. Great video!

    This the second time I watched this vid , liked it so much the first time. I now live in Alberta but am from Niagara Falls area . Been in Alberta for the last 38 years . I spend a lot of time outdoors and wish I had a friend like you out here . People here think I'm a bit nuts doing the kind of thing your doing in this vid. Loved the Longer video. I thought the Eskimo Fishing Tent was a very nice , cozy shelter for you and Willow. Willow needs her own set of Doggie snowshows. Your breakfast sandwiches looked delicious. Willow is lucky to have a great Human like you to care for her. As someone else commented , you have a calm manner about you that I wish I had. Best wishes, Brian

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brian! I'm maybe much more calm when I'm on these trips haha! It certainly is a great experinece. As for Willow's boots....I've tried set after set after set with no luck! They all fall off in no time. I even had a set custom fit by an expert....and Willow literally lost three of them within just a few minutes!!! I think it must be the shape of her paws/lower legs. In the meantime she doesn't seem to mind whatsoever. Maybe her excitement just to be outside tenting supersedes all lol. Again, thanks for the nice comment 👍

After watching you and your ice fishing tent conversion to a hot tent, I am going to get one for this purpose. I love the fact that it is insulated. You cannot get this in a regular tent unless you want to spend a thousand or more dollars. Thank you so much and hugs for Willow.

Smoke always rises to the highest point thus it would help in your exhaust. I absolutely love the interaction between you and your dog. He is truly a great buddy and companion. I’ve been looking at the Eskimo pop-up tent on Amazon. It was helpful to see how well it worked out for you. Definitely more inclined to purchase it now. Thanks ❄️☃️⛺️🌲🐾🐶😊

    I have the Eskimo Fatfish also but just took a piece of tin and cut it to match the window than added Velcro and it works great as the stove jack! Great video!

      Sounds great scott!! Tin carries a bit of heat but if it’s large enough you’ll do just fine👍

      It’s a great combo for fast setup, especially in the North when it’s bitter cold and only about 8 hours max of sunlight in the pit of winter. I always carry a tarp plus backsaw (and axe) as backups too just in case something goes wrong 👍

    I love your set up, perfect for snowmobile, atv, or hiking and pulling sled. ....I would have to get a much bigger cot, for me and TWO German Shepherds. Two cots wouldn't work, I would still wake up with both dogs on top of me. I have the same issues with teepee style hot tents: only one place, usually about 1 foot by 1 foot area surrounding the center pole where you can almost stand upright.

    • @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
      @ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two German shepherds-wow!! I bet they would love it though! Fishing tents come in so many sizes which is a bit of an advantage for sure. Thanks for tuning in and leaving me a comment 👍
