I once jokingly criticized a friend for getting into Jazz music, with the classic jab, "it's just playing the wrong notes." He hit me back with the best line I've ever heard, "yes, but you have to play the wrong notes at the right time."
I had a choral director who used to say, "The audience can forgive a wrong note, but they will notice if you're off-rhythm." Or something like that. A wrong note can always be passed off, usually, but if you get off rhythm its a little harder to make that sound right.

As a person that doesn’t really listen to jazz, it’s kinda hard to tell he even made a mistake. But I guess repeating the mistake definitely makes it a happy accident
